Dr. James Mellon (00:00):
So I'm going
to start right at the top with
those lyrics.
I love how this whole songstarts.
Something has changed within me.
Let's just go there Anybody.
Yeah, how many of you feel likesomething has changed within
you, in your life?
Something's going on right, something is not the same.
I feel that way.
I feel that way about thischurch, this center.
(00:22):
Feel that way about this church, this center, this teaching,
this philosophy this time in ourhistory of religion that
something is really changing, and certainly in me, something
has changed within me.
Regarding all of it, somethingis not the same.
Last night in Palm Springs Idrove in yesterday, did service
(00:43):
and came right back and RickTamlin was my, my co-anchor last
night and Rick was speakingabout this teaching and every
single thing he spoke about theteaching which we teach and is
it makes sense.
I had to counter because ofwhere we are in advanced
(01:05):
consciousness and what we havebrought this teaching to mean.
So if we just go back to the1927 book of Ernest Holmes and
start reiterating what he saidin 1926, we may miss what he
actually meant in 1926.
That has brought so muchclarity into the world of
science and religion.
So it was fascinating and atone point, rick said something
(01:29):
and then, as he right before hefinished the sentence, he turned
and said what are you going tosay about that?
And I was like it's just sofunny everything you're saying,
because he said everything, thateverything in the universe
already exists.
We just find it.
And I'm like, um, notnecessarily, it's not that
everything exists already in theuniverse, and we just find it.
(01:49):
Because there was this quotethat Aaron had such a hard time
with in signs of mine 300, whichwas that we co-create.
We never create anything.
Everything's already created.
We just find it, but it'salready been created in this
universe.
But what we're starting tounderstand is that's not
necessarily the case, and we'recoming from a very relative
place.
We're coming from the idea ofthe relative of things that are
(02:12):
already created.
What's really going on is lifeis an evolutionary process that
continues to expand and grow.
It is infinite in scope, whichmeans, catherine, that you are
infinite in scope.
It's not that it already exists, it's that you exist and
therefore, what will existexists through you.
(02:35):
So, and when I finished allthat, rick was like well, we
should teach that.
Well, we should teach that.
And I was like I do, but we'rejust starting to understand this
.
So something has changed withinme.
That's the first two lineswe're never going to get out of
(02:56):
here.
Something is not the same.
I'm through with playing by therules of someone else's game
game, good, lyric huh.
I am through with playing bythe religious majority's
understanding of what God isright, or who I am, or who
(03:18):
everyone is.
When you know the truth, youcan't go back, you can't pretend
that you don't know anymore, you can't just pretend and
suddenly go off into a jag, because and I'm going to talk
about my jag this week becauseyou can pretend that that's not
the truth.
So I want to talk aboutreligion for a minute.
(03:38):
Religion, the definition, isthe belief in and worship of a
superhuman power or powers, thebelief in and worship of a
superhuman power or powers, especially a god or gods.
So religion, religion, haschanged completely for me,
certainly since.
So I was on the phone withSpectrum Very religious
(03:59):
experience.
This was about my fifth callback, when they finally did get me
back.
And I got this guy and he wasin Florida and I always have to
say something funny aboutFlorida and I decided not to
because he had saw my email andinstantly said so you're a,
you're a man of the cloth.
I was like, well, I love what Iwear, but so so he's like the
(04:30):
man of the cloth.
And I was like, yes, I am aminister.
He said, God, we so need you intoday's world.
We really need your.
You know, loving andunderstanding what true morality
is and what true.
And he was going on and on andI thought we're probably not
exactly on the same page.
And yet love only forgiveeverything and remember who they
are, um, remember who they areand remember who I am, remember
who we are.
One right.
So I thought you know what I'mgonna end it.
(04:53):
I'm gonna, I'm gonna nip thisin the butt.
And I said, because he said youwant to try, you want to move
both of your phones.
I was moving over from at&t tospectrum.
I was like he said you want tomove both of your phones over.
I said you know what?
Um, let's do mine, because Ihave to talk to my husband and
make sure he knows that.
And there was a little bit of apause, a little bit of a pause,
(05:17):
and he went okay, what's yourhusband's name?
I said it should be on theaccount there, kevin Bailey.
He went oh yeah, it is.
Wow.
Okay, how does that work, beinga minister and having a husband
?
I said, really good, he runs thewhole church.
I said really, it'd be veryhard to do it without him.
He said, no, but I mean, howdoes your congregation deal with
(05:37):
that?
I said, well, they seem to beokay with it.
And I said I said it's not, I'mnot.
He said you're a Christianchurch.
Anyway, you don't need to hearmy whole spectrum conversation,
but, but I did.
But I did say I said ourphilosophy is based on
Christianity, hinduism, buddhism, judaism, all of the above.
(05:59):
We believe that God is inherentin all things and all people
everywhere.
And I went on my elevator speechvery quickly and there was this
pause and he just said hmm, hesaid so, in your faith, you can
be gay and have a husband.
I said yes, I can.
He said, wow, I thought, am Ihaving a coming out moment with
(06:22):
Spectrum?
This guy's going to go.
I need to be in your church.
And he just said, well, that'svery, very interesting.
And then I did throw in myFlorida thing.
I said but you live in Florida.
I'm sure it's very difficult tocomprehend everything I'm
saying to you.
And he just started laughingand that's pretty much.
We got out of it after that.
I then got my phones moved, butphones moved, but I did notice
(06:48):
my internet went down all overmy house instantly after that.
Could you imagine?
No, but the idea of that that's.
That's the world we live in,though Most people believe what
this man believes and we are aminority when it comes to what
we believe about God and what webelieve about religion.
(07:10):
And people always get to methey're like religious science
isn't a religion.
I'm like it is a religion bythe very nature of what we do
and who we are and our 501 C 3,you know with with the
government, we are a religion.
So if I look back at thisdefinition in belief or worship
of a superhuman power or powers, especially God or gods, then I
(07:33):
have to ask myself what are therules of religious science?
I'm tired of living by therules of someone else's game, so
that would have to mean I'malso tired of living by the
rules of religious science.
If it doesn't work and if it'snot working for me and frankly,
if religious science is notworking for you, find something
(07:54):
that does work.
My Aunt Agnes Catholicism workedfor her.
She could kneel in front of theBlessed Mother's statue with
her rosary beads and when shewalked away in her mind it was
done.
The Blessed Mother had itwalked away in her mind it was
done.
The Blessed Mother had it, itwas out of her hands and it was
(08:15):
done.
And, as I've told you manytimes, whenever I had an
audition I would call her fromNew York and go, get over to the
cathedral, grab those rosarybeads and tell the Blessed
Mother that I need to be in MissSaigon.
And she did a really good job.
It got down to me and one otherguy and he got it.
I blamed it on the rosary beads, but she knew, she knew that
(08:36):
worked for her she wouldn't comein here.
This probably I don't know atthis point.
I mean she's been gone a longtime now but I don't know what
this would do.
I remember when her niece, myaunt Peggy Ann, came to visit me
in New York when I was aBuddhist and she was Catholic
and I had the stupid idea totake her to a Buddhist moment
(08:56):
and so she came in andeverybody's like, but she had a
nervous breakdown.
She thought I was going to hell.
I mean it was just the rest ofthe weekend trip was just awful
Awful Because she didn'tcomprehend what was going on.
So we do need to meet peoplewhere they are and understand
(09:17):
why they believe what theybelieve and be part of a
communal understanding of allthis oneness.
So I wanted to look at thisidea of rules of religious
science.
So what are our rules?
Well, our first rule is thatthere's only one energy, the
quantum field.
That's it.
Everybody good with that.
That there's this one energeticfield.
That is the core and the thingthat we are all of.
(09:39):
As Ernest Holmes says, I'm notone with God, I'm not one in God
, I am one of God.
All of us right?
That's the first one.
The second one is that oneenergy, that quantum field, is
what I identify myself, as weused to call it the divinity of
man.
That's just a little tooreligious, but it's.
(09:59):
I am the quantum field.
So all there is is this quantumfield.
I am the quantum field.
That's the second rule of ourphilosophy.
And then the third one is andthis is the one where we lose
people the first two, they canget by, but then this one
personal responsibility forone's own experience.
(10:19):
Hallelujah, you can't blameanyone and you take all the
credit for whatever you're doing, whatever's happening in your
life.
That's number three.
And then the last one is thepower of your mind, or, as I'm
now saying a lot, what's in yourmind, what are you giving power
(10:46):
to?
So the title of my talk todayis A Blank Piece of paper, swan,
one more.
There it is, oh, hold on,unstoppable, with the
exclamation point on the secondline.
Not exactly sure why thathappened, but there's probably a
(11:10):
reason and I'll figure it outas I go.
Unstoppable, so.
So back to the lyrics.
I'm through accepting limitsbecause someone says they're.
So.
We are not in these seats todayand talking about this today
because we are acceptingeverything that I'm saying, even
(11:30):
me accepting everything I'msaying.
We are here because we believeand know that our energetic
field is constantly evolving andwe want to keep evolving.
And we come here on a Sunday tolisten and to hear and to talk
to one another about that verything.
Right, some things I cannotchange, but till I try, I'll
(11:52):
never know.
I remember back when I wasteaching religious science in
the early days, a lot of stupidquestions came up.
You know a lot of things oflike well, can we move that
mountain if it's in our way.
And you know, in the early daysI was teaching the basic
principles of what this sciencewas and I was like, well,
(12:14):
probably, if you really believeit, but you'd have to really
believe it to move that mountain.
And my thought was so no onehas believed it enough to move
the mountain.
Remember those days when you'dhear that from your science of
mind teachers yeah, try.
Saying that.
Today it's like no, no, and Ilike this line.
(12:34):
Some things I cannot change, but till I try, I'll never know.
There are things that you arenot going to change because you
are not.
I am not Brad.
Brad's gonna do what Brad doesand I can't change that.
I've tried.
It doesn't work right.
So that's the truth.
But can I change me?
(12:56):
Can I change my experience ofBrad?
Yes, and it's worked Right.
So that that's the philosophywe teach.
So I have a question for youthis morning.
It's a simple question what doyou want?
It's a big question, or it's alittle question, maybe.
(13:16):
What do you want right here inthis moment?
But what do you want?
What do you want for your life?
It was interesting last night Iwas in a room with beautiful
people part of our congregation, but many of them I was in Palm
(13:39):
Springs and I know a lot of themare watching today.
Now you'll get my reaction towhat last night was all about.
I think there's an energeticfeeling in Palm Springs with a
lot of people, that life is overa little bit.
And now we're just sailing intothe sunset and it's probably
why I keep telling Kevin I amnever moving to Palm Springs
(14:01):
because I am never fading intothe sunset.
But he always he's convinced menow because I don't say that
anymore.
He's like James, we are goingto move to Palm Springs because
I want to be there and we aregoing to help everyone stop
fading into the sunset.
I was like, all right if theywant to.
But maybe they want to andmaybe that is the best use of
that person at that time.
(14:22):
But for me I'm like, what do youwant?
To ask that question to peoplethat don't have an understanding
that anything they want ispossible?
Do not put a limit on it, likeyour age.
Do not put a limit on it, evenlike your body.
Do not put any limits on it.
What do you want?
(14:43):
So I'm inviting you to tap intowhatever that is and do not.
And here, so here's.
This is somebody I asked thatquestion to and this is what I
got back.
I now use it as one of myanonymous quotes.
I said what do you want?
And they said well, there's adifference between.
There's a difference betweenwhat I want and what I think I
(15:05):
can have.
Do y'all hear that there is adifference between what I want
and what I think I can have?
Y'all hear that there is adifference between what I want
and what I think I can have.
I think most of us areoperating on a what I think I
can have basis and we are basingthat on everything that's
happened prior to it.
This happened.
(15:26):
It's funny I was thinking aboutwe went to see Bernadette Peters
in her show last week and I wassitting there and I was looking
at all of these shows that theywere singing and I, like, would
come this close to getting astarring role in that show and
I'm looking at all the almoststhat happened.
And then in the lobby andintermission, out of nowhere,
this person came up to me andsaid didn't you do the movie
(15:50):
footloose?
And I was like.
I was like, just stab me in theback while you're standing
there just keep bringing it up.
Folks and I.
They were like no, because myfriend said you did the double,
the, the dancing double for cat,for kevin bacon and I.
I turned look and kevin's justlike how's he going to react?
(16:11):
And I was like no, I didn't doFootloose.
It came down to between KevinBacon and I and when they gave
the role to Kevin, they asked meto be his dance double and I
very impetuously and, I'm sure, with some very choice words,
said no.
Today I wish I had.
I would love to watch thatmovie and every time there's a
(16:34):
long shot of him dancing I'd begoing.
That's me.
There it is, but that's notwhat happened.
So this whole concept, there's adifference between what I want
and what I believe, what I thinkI can have.
When we base it on all of this,oh my God I can have.
When we base it on all of this,oh my God, fade into the sunset
(16:54):
, because there's not a lot youcan have, there's not a lot you
can really create for yourself.
If you're basing it on all ofthat and now add to it, I'll
base it on all of that, and allof you with all of your opinions
about what can and cannothappen in life, based on your
beliefs, because all of you haveyour own story.
(17:17):
How many times have you heardsomeone say to you that's never
going to happen.
That's not how it works.
Let me tell you what happenedwith me.
But you're not them, you're you.
You are expansive, creativeenergy of the universe,
individualized as you.
Everything's possible to thedegree that you believe it is.
(17:38):
So there's a difference betweenwhat I want and what I think I
can have.
And there it is.
And you know what it's allabout.
It's all about focus.
This month is a powerful monthfor all of us, if we really get
in there and make sense out ofthis.
So let's look at what Zig Ziglarsaid.
(17:59):
He said I don't care how muchpower, brilliance or energy you
have, if you don't harness itand focus it on a specific
target and hold it there, you'renever going to accomplish as
much as your ability warrants.
There are a few things here Iwant to point out to you.
(18:20):
The last line what your abilitywarrants.
You have the ability to do andbe and experience whatever you
decide.
Now, that is a basic premise ofwhat we teach.
I don't know why.
I just got very emotional.
Yeah, I do, because sometimes, when truth comes through me,
(18:41):
when truth really hits me, likeit did in meditation this
morning with you, julio, I getvery emotional.
I'm like, oh my God, yes, yes, that is so true.
And he quoted Ernest Holmes thismorning in meditation, saying
love and law, you know, and thepower of love and law, but both
of them, you have to actuallyact upon them in order for them
(19:02):
to do something.
So this your ability warrants.
You're sitting here today witha judgment about your ability.
You're sitting here today witha preconceived notion of what
you can and cannot do, who youcan and cannot be.
The universe has already showedyou, the world has showed you,
the people show you, they tellyou.
But the ones that actuallybreak through, the ones that are
(19:26):
unstoppable, don't care whatyou think and they don't care
what has happened up to thispoint.
They get it.
Focus on a specific target, focus on what you want and
nothing else.
Right, but then hold it there.
(19:48):
Are you willing to do the workto really hold it there?
And what does that mean?
It means stop being sodistracted, right?
Ernest holmes taught theobserver effect, even though he
never mentioned it or didn'tknow what it was, because in
1927 I don't know that theobserver effect was something
that was really even around, orthat they were, or it was
becoming publicly known.
(20:09):
So here's what the observereffect is.
The observer effect refers to aphenomenon in which the act of
observation alters the behaviorof the particles being observed.
Very simple, everybody get that.
So the phenomenon in which theact of observation alters the
behavior of the particles beingobserved.
What's in your mind?
(20:29):
Because what is in your mind isyou observing the particles of
your life and they are movingbased on what you are observing,
the way you are observing.
We all see many different thingsin life, but we don't all react
the same way.
Your reaction is what'screating your life?
React the same way.
Your reaction is what'screating your life, the way you
(20:51):
react, because that's theobserver effect that is focused,
that's what you are focusingyour mind on.
So question you may know theanswer to this, but if it pops
up, you'll know.
What do you focus on most ofthe time in your life?
What do you find yourselffocused on most of the time in
your life?
What do you find yourselffocused on most of the time?
(21:12):
What are you using your mind tocreate in life, what do you
focus on?
This week's been a veryinteresting focus week, right.
So to concentrate this is ErnestHolmes.
To concentrate means to bringto a center and in mental
(21:32):
science it means focusing themental attention on some
definite and desired thought, image, idea or thing.
So in the observer effect, ifyou are going to concentrate
your mind or focus your mind oreven let it land on something,
you will have a reaction to it.
That reaction is creating yourlife, whatever that reaction is,
(21:53):
because it's moving things.
I mean, that's how this works.
And he says, he goes on to sayof course we are dealing with
the idea of thought.
We are dealing with the idea asthough thoughts are things.
And this is back in 1926 thathe writes this.
The spirit of a thing is in thethought.
The spirit of the thing is inthe thought.
(22:14):
What he really means is theenergy of the thing is in the
observer's use of energy, how weuse our minds.
So the spirit of the thing isyou.
You are the spirit of the thingand it's inherent in whatever
it is you're looking at.
But it reacts to your energy,to what you believe, to what you
think, to your reaction whichis based on all of your beliefs,
(22:37):
all of your already establishedpremises of life.
So this week, as I was at thegym, I looked on the screen and
there was a little flash acrossthe screen.
I usually work out for a halfhour every morning on the
(22:59):
treadmill with my eyes closedand listening to spiritual music
, and I just meditate the wholetime as I'm going higher and
higher in the treadmill and forsome reason it caught my eye
what was on CNN and it saidabout to have a meeting with
President Trump and PresidentZelensky, and I was like I
really want to see this and itwas going to be in an hour.
(23:19):
So I went home.
When I got home, I turned it on, I sat down.
I thought I would love to seethe beginning of peace.
I would love to see how thisgoes.
Even take all my own personalopinions about what I think is
going on and how I think it'sbeing handled.
I would love to see thebeginning of peace.
And what I saw was the beginningof absolute.
(23:40):
It was just unfathomable.
I was absolutely nauseous.
I've never been so nauseouswatching television and I turned
it off and I was angry and Iwas furious and I was.
Just I could not fathom what Iwas seeing and what I was
hearing.
And I'm not talking about anyindividual, I'm talking about
(24:02):
the consciousness that allowedthat to happen, the way it
happened.
And then I realized my reactionto it was what was going to
designate how my life was goingto keep going forward, and that
my reaction was completelyinappropriate because my
(24:25):
reaction didn't come from aspiritual truth.
My reaction didn't come from meknowing who I am.
My reaction came from mejudging who that was and judging
how this happened.
And I did not listen to thepundits after that because I
thought that'll just take medown the rabbit hole further and
further and further, and and Ido now switch to all the
(24:45):
different networks to see what'sgoing on.
And I stopped and I got it andI thought, oh my God, that's
what I have to talk about today.
That's what I have to come inhere and say your reaction is
what's in your wallet?
Your reaction to what is goingon in the world is the way
(25:07):
you're using your mind.
Now I'm not saying that the wayyou reacted was not appropriate
.
I even think my reaction, myinitial reaction, was
appropriate to what I believeand what I would love to see,
but the following reaction andthe secondary causation that
(25:28):
comes in as I keep movingthrough that reaction.
I don't want to live that life.
I don't want to live mypersonal life based on my
reaction to what I think's wrongin the world.
Turn it around what is right inthe world.
And the irony was, of course, that the very next day, zolinski
(25:53):
goes to England and receivesthe most gorgeous, beautiful,
loving reaction with fullsupport behind him, and I was
like.
I was like okay.
So I was like I will focus onthat.
And just because I'm part of acountry that's maybe not going
to support them anymore, I canstill support.
I can still do what I know isright to help for peace in the
(26:15):
world.
I can still do.
You can do what is right foryou in your mind without being
involved in the reactionarydiscourse that will take your
life in the direction you don'twant it to go.
Doesn't that make sense?
Yeah, so, so, politics aside, that lesson taught me so much.
(26:40):
I was like, okay, what else amI reacting to in life that
perhaps is not beneficial to me?
What am I?
Where are my reactions?
And all of these self-servingreactions?
Because we're all.
We all get on our high horseswho are in the advanced
consciousness class.
One of the students, who's aunity minister, read her paper
because it was so great andbasically she said she said it
(27:03):
is time for all of we religiouspeople to get off our high
horses and to get back on theground and be one with everyone
that's on it.
I was like and I had to read itto the entire class, because
that's really what we have to doGet off the high horse which,
by the way, the high horse thereligion of religious science,
(27:23):
the high horse of that doesn'teven know what the hell it is at
this point.
The religion of religiousscience, the high horse of that,
doesn't even know what the hellit is at this point.
It's still teaching antiquatedphilosophies that are not
helping us Right.
So get off the horse, get backinto the quantum field, get back
into listening to who you areand focus, focus, focus, focus
your mind on what you want toaccomplish, Focus your mind on
(27:48):
the world you want to live in,focus your mind on who you are,
innately who you are, who thereal essence of you is, and then
be that love in action byfocusing it right where you want
it, I know where I'm going, Iknow what I want to accomplish,
(28:12):
I know what is mine to do and Iam unstoppable because the
universe is unstoppable.
You know what's unstoppable?
That energy inside of you thatmotivates and that fills your
mind when you point it forward, that's unstoppable.
You can be stoppable if youstop yourself, but when you
(28:36):
remember who you are, youremember that you are
unstoppable.
So take that unstoppable energyand focus it on what you want
out of your life.
Namaste.
