All right, folks, tonight wehave a very special guest with
us.
We do, we have a very specialguest.
(01:39):
We have a country musicrecording artist.
Got that, Miss Tiffany.
Country music recording artist.
Got that, Miss Tiffany, countrymusic recording artist hailing
from the great state of SouthCarolina, we have Mr Trey
Calloway.
Trey sir, how are you?
Trey Calloway (01:56):
What's going on
y'all?
How are you guys tonight?
Jay Franze (01:59):
We are very good,
sir.
All right, sir.
Well, let's go ahead and jumpin, tell us about this new song
you have out there.
Trey Calloway (02:06):
She Don't Break
it.
Well, I wrote this song withtwo of my great friends my new
producer, brandon Hood, who'sworking on this new album with
me, as well as Terry McBridefrom McBride on the Ride, and he
wrote Cowgirls, don't Cry.
For Brooks and Dunn.
He wrote Play Something, country for Brooks and Dunn.
He wrote If you See Her, if youSee Him, for Brooks and Dunn.
He wrote if you see her, if yousee him, for Brooks and.
Dunn and he's had a bunch ofGeorge Strayed cuts.
(02:28):
Man, he's actually out on theroad right now, uh, uh, writing
for Brooks and Dunn's new albumwith him.
He's up out on their tour withhim right now.
So it's, he seems like he'shaving a blast.
But, um, no, his song is calledshe don't break it.
And uh, I think, uh, I think Ihad the hooking idea in my head
for, uh, like they don't makethem like they used to, or
something like that.
And brandon sat there andpondered for a second.
(02:50):
He was like how, how about shedon't break it like she used to?
And I was like, man, that'snever uh, been said before.
So we sat there and wrote aboutan hour and, uh, thanks to zach
top, you know, shuffled herback in style again.
So it's a little countryshuffle, man, we play it every
show and people are reallyloving it.
Man, by the second or thirdchorus they're singing along
(03:12):
with it.
They're really liking it.
How'd you meet up with MrMcBride?
So, terry, my social media guyis his social media guy.
He'd been saying man, you'vegot to meet Terry, he's a great
songwriter, you've got to meetTerry.
And so I went to his show.
If I'm not mistaken, it was ineither a single release party or
an album release party.
It was at Old Red downtown inNashville.
(03:34):
Went to see them play and thenwe shook hands and no, that was
actually the second time I methim.
Jay Franze (03:40):
The first time I met
him If you're going to keep
lying like this, we're going toneed a comment.
Trey Calloway (03:44):
You're like I'm
going to end this right now if
you keep on lying.
No, the first time I met him, mywife and I we went to see him
perform at Country for a Cause, which is a charity event they do
for the Children's Hospitalthere at Vanderbilt.
I didn't play it that year.
I got to play for the firsttime this year, but that year I
was just sitting in the crowd asone of the fans and my wife and
(04:10):
I got to go backstage and meetTerry and hang out with him and
we were actually walking out ofthe venue after the show and we
talked to him out back for about30 minutes he sat and talked to
us we were going to call anUber because we had Ubered down
to the venue and he pulled up inhis truck and he said you guys
need a ride home and we hadUbered down to the venue and he
pulled up in his truck and hesaid you guys made a ride home
and he gave me a ride home andwe talked that whole ride home
and it was a lot of fun.
(04:34):
He's a super, super cool dude, pretty much the coolest guy in
any room anywhere.
He is man, he's a good mentorand he's been a good influence
on me in my career.
So, yeah, he and I have beenbuddies for a while now.
But we met through my socialmedia guy and, as you know,
nashville's all about thosecontacts, man.
It's all about meetingso-and-so and meeting so-and-so.
But I always say, if you'redoing the right things, you meet
the right people.
God puts the right people infront of five.
Jay Franze (04:55):
I only ask.
He was on the show and he hadsome of the best stories.
Trey Calloway (04:59):
He was just the
nicest guy.
He's chock full of stories, man, and he'll tell them all to you
, even if you've heard it before, man, he'll tell it and it'll
be like fresh.
It'll be a fresh story the wayhe tells it.
He never tells it at the sametime.
Did he tell you his mulletwhipping him in the face story?
Yeah, so there's an old music.
I can't remember what song itis, but there's a music video
they're in where they werefilming on a beach.
(05:20):
Beach and the winds blowing hishair around and like whipping
him in the face Tells me that alot of shows, man, it's a funny
story.
Jay Franze (05:28):
Yeah, no he had the
best stories.
I mean they all did.
They were all on here, thethree of them, and they had just
had the best stories.
Trey Calloway (05:35):
Billy and Ray too
.
They're all.
They're all three great guys.
They're all three great guys,man.
Jay Franze (05:41):
So what was?
Trey Calloway (05:42):
it like working
with Brandon.
So Brandon is working with TomMyers right now, he's working
with Mackenzie Carpenter, brandon Warshaw, me, dan
Marshall.
He's got a lot of new artiststhat he's working with and
honestly, I think Brandon isNashville's best kept secret as
of right now.
I think he's one of the nextbig producers that's going to
come up and I feel like I methim at the perfect time and I
(06:03):
actually met him through terry.
So without without meetingterry, I would never have met
brandon, and brandon is aphenomenal, phenomenal musician,
songwriter and producer.
We actually cut two new songsthe other day at the castle over
there in franklin, tennessee, not too shabby.
Well, I mean, you know, theysay, you know all kinds of
studios have crazy names andstuff, but then you know like,
(06:26):
oh, it's called the Castle andyou don't really think too much
of it.
But then you pull up and it's aliteral castle.
I think Al Capone owned itduring Prohibition and he like
would run his whiskey out of itand there's some history in that
building.
Yeah, and Brandon's been pullingout the A-team for these
sessions.
I mean he's got Bruce Boughtonand Boughton and I have been
(06:46):
buddies for a while.
Bruce played steel with me fora little while, but Bruce
Boughton was on steel.
We had Gordon Mode on piano.
I mean all these guys arelegends.
Tom Bukovec on guitar I meanall these guys are just the top
of the top session guys.
And're all super, super kind tome and nice and man.
It's been a great experienceworking with brandon.
(07:07):
I like to think I've met theproducer that I'm going to work
with for a long, long time, Ihope I have.
Jay Franze (07:12):
Well, that's good.
What?
What makes it that way to you?
Trey Calloway (07:16):
honestly, it's
the, it's the kindred spirits.
You know we both want to tomake country music, and when I
say country music that's a broadterm nowadays.
I never came to Nashville to bethe flag waver for traditional
country or 90s country orwhatever have you.
I love modern sounds, I don'tmind that kind of stuff, but the
(07:38):
message and the music has to beon Denali country and Brandon
and I both understand that thereis music that's called you know
there is.
There is music that's calledcountry music and then there's
country music he and I bothagree on.
On what that is.
You know I'm a little bit of acut up.
I'll goof off in the studio.
If the session guys are allgoofing off, I'll goof off with
them.
He's very good about stayingorganized and keeping everybody
(08:02):
on on a business and that's kindof what I need.
And he's a really good leader.
He's a good teammate.
It's been a lot of fun workingwith him.
I hope that we work togetherfor a long time Plus.
He's like right on this cusp ofjust exploding.
I think that he was put into mylife at the perfect time.
Jay Franze (08:22):
I think he and I
made each other at the perfect
time.
Well, you know, great music, great studio, great musicians.
I can only imagine what's goingto come out of it.
Trey Calloway (08:29):
Hopefully we'll
get us a good winning
combination.
I think we have man.
She Misses Me, and Misses wasthe first single off of that,
off that album, and then sheDon't Break.
It was a second.
We're getting ready to drop anew one here in a couple of
weeks.
Jay Franze (08:41):
Very cool.
So you say you like workingwith Brandon and you like the
way that you guys bond over thesame style of country music.
Yes, sir, what kind of produceris he though?
Trey Calloway (08:51):
Well, he is.
To a degree he's a lot like Iam to where I've always trusted
the session guys.
I mean, they're who they arefor a very good reason.
They're who they are becausethey know what's going to sound
good.
They know what is going to turnout good on a record,
(09:11):
especially what's going totranslate on a record really
well.
And I've always been the guywho said, hey, let these guys
experiment, let them have fun,let them put their own spin on
these songs.
He's very good about doing thattoo.
He is not a super micromanager.
He definitely lets the playersexperiment and and and do what
(09:32):
they like on there.
And I like that too.
You know, I, I my first albumwas very much like that, very
micromanaged and very okay.
You sit over there in thecorner and we're gonna do the
music and then we'll let youknow when it's time to sing.
I wasn't necessarily ready toco-produce or give my input yet,
but now I am, and Brandon and Ido that well together, I think
(09:55):
because he's such a likable guy.
I mean he's a family man, he'sas nice as they come.
I mean he's a good leader.
Like I said, he can keep peopleorganized.
When it's time to get serious.
He'll make people get seriousand stuff.
That's a skilling of its own.
As far as an overlymicromanagerial producer he's
not that I've heard people ininterviews say that those
(10:18):
session guys at that level theydon't need to be micromanaged.
I'd let the guys playminute-long guitar solos if I
could get away with it on radio.
If I could get away with it, I'dlet them do it.
That's one thing I do admireabout the 90s country is those
guys, those artists.
Let those players show off.
That's why those records turnedout so timeless.
(10:40):
Nowadays, everything's drumloop, very simple guitar lick
over top and then overlycompressed vocals, overly
processed vocals, washy, washycymbals and hi-hat, and it's a
very formulaic thing.
And brandon's not like that.
That's part of what I likeabout him.
(11:00):
That's very.
I have always been.
You know, I'm an expert in whatI'm an expert in.
If I was to stand in the way ofthem doing what they hear, I'd
only be hurting myself in thelong run.
You know what I'm saying.
And usually on work tapes ofmine, I'll have like a cool
little guitar lick that I cameup with and it might be
(11:21):
something they take andembellish on and make it better.
And you know, 99 of the timethey do make it better.
Right, I'm mature enough to torealize that, but I honestly do.
Guys, I feel like I moved tonashville at the right time.
Moved to nashville when I wasin my late 20s I mean, I'm still
young, it's only been a coupleyears but it's like I was past
(11:41):
the ego stuff.
I was past the drinking and thepartying and, you know, getting
caught up in stuff that didn'tmatter.
I was ready to move toNashville and I was ready to
take on the challenge of thattown and not have an ego about
it.
Because if you have a big egoin this town, man, it'll eat you
alive.
Tiffany Mason (12:03):
Well, first up we
miss carrie underwood.
She is gearing up, you guys, for the 13th season on sunday
night football.
I love her opening song.
I know I'm a chick, but herbody in that intro, her legs are
just sheer muscle and they'vegot like some tan oil or
(12:24):
something on her.
Jay Franze (12:24):
I mean she looks
smoking hot trey, do you know
anything about what she'stalking about?
Trey Calloway (12:31):
I know I was
gonna say.
I was only gonna say my son isobsessed with carrie underwood.
He's like obsessed, and he's 10years old I mean he's getting
to that age and he's like he'she's just obsessed with her.
Oh yeah, yeah, for sure.
That's all I got to say aboutthat.
I can't say too much.
Tiffany Mason (12:48):
Well, last week
we talked about the song Girl
Crush.
I mean, whew, all right, Idon't know.
Jay Franze (12:55):
Seems like you're
getting a little overheated here
I don't know, let's cool thingsdown.
Tiffany Mason (12:59):
Okay, so we had
Luke Bryan on tour, and you know
this dude Luke who.
Bryan Bryan Trey.
Tony Scott (13:11):
You don't know,
sometimes I put a.
Tiffany Mason (13:13):
T at the end it's
Bryant, normally, okay.
So he's on the stage and a ballcomes flying at him and do you
remember when the fan put theircell phone on I don't know what
it's called the catwalk orwhatever that the performers
walked down on and he slippedand he fell and hit his tailbone
(13:33):
real hard.
Anyway, now he's got a ballcoming at his face, so I don't
know.
He said that if he would haveknown who it was, he would have
jumped down and confronted him.
Trey Calloway (13:49):
But instead he
opted to keep the party rolling.
So that was in north dakota, atthe, at the fair.
Do you think he would havethrown fists?
Trey, man, I try to think about.
I try to think about what I'ddo in that situation.
Honestly, man, I'd have toreally stop myself from getting
angry.
There's been a an epidemic ofthis lately of people throwing
stuff at entertainers and stuff, and I think it's just a symptom
of, like, our society.
You know, I think people havestarted to assume that, like
(14:12):
artists are not real people, like they don't have feelings
and stuff and they don't, theydon't feel that kind of thing.
Well, I mean, personally, Ihate it.
I hate it, man, I would.
I've never throw something atit.
Why are you gonna pay money togo see a concert, right?
Luke Bryan is a greatentertainer.
He always has been.
You know he's, he's one of thebiggest country artists of the
(14:32):
past few decades.
Jay Franze (14:33):
I mean, he, he, he
deserves respect, you know, I
mean he deserves respect as ahuman being, but as an
entertainer too, and well, Idon't think anybody should have
anything thrown at them, but Ithink he's too nice of a guy
that I don't think if he hoppeddown there he'd be throwing
fists.
I think he might have somewords to say or whatever, but I
don't think he'd throw fists atall.
Tiffany Mason (14:54):
Yeah.
Trey Calloway (14:55):
I definitely
think they should throw them out
of there if they get caughtdoing it.
But I haven't gotten to thatlevel.
You know I don't know.
If I ever do do I don't knowhow I'll react.
You know I've also seen some ofthe artists act not great
either, you know.
So I think some of the artistsare creating an atmosphere of
chaos like that.
You know what I mean.
You know I'm not gonna say whoI think is, but I think our
(15:15):
whole society has gotten alittle bit like that
disrespectful and stuff you knowand I hate that man.
Hopefully we could turn itaround over the next couple
years and we start treating eachother like human beings there
you go start with my wife.
Jay Franze (15:32):
All right, miss
tiffany, move on before I get in
trouble okay.
Tiffany Mason (15:37):
Well, mr shaboozy
, do you remember we reported
that he was doing some shootwhere he backed up traffic for
lanes on end, I think in Arizona.
Well, he is doing it again.
He's got backlash afterallegedly trespassing a private
land for a scenic shoot.
Montana locals say that it's abreach of tradition and trust,
(16:07):
trust.
So, shibuzee, if you want alittle bit of good news, stay
off of the highways when you'reshooting your anger scenes and
your scenic shoots on protectedproperty.
Jay Franze (16:15):
All right, Trey, let
me ask you a question when you
do your videos, do you getpermits for everything you do?
Trey Calloway (16:20):
I was just about
to say.
I have been thrown out ofplaces for shooting content and
stuff, and a lot of times youdon't even know that you're
breaking the law.
He might have known.
He was not supposed to be there.
Hell, we just got thrown out.
I was shooting up in one of theparking decks in a place I park
.
At all the time we wereshooting up Me and my social
(16:42):
media guy were shooting up thereand this poor security guard
came up to us and he was likeguys, I'm sorry but I've got to
make y'all leave.
So I've been thrown out ofplaces for shooting content.
I can't throw in a shade ofshibuji.
But I also understand the peoplewho own the land's perspective,
you know.
Jay Franze (16:59):
I totally get it.
Well, I'm going to guess if hewas out in Montana it was
probably a wide open space thathe had no idea belonged to
somebody.
But I've worked for a film crewand we used to do videos for
the country artists and nine outof 10 times nobody wanted to go
through the effort of getting apermit.
So I mean we did everything fromPercy Warner Park.
We would get kicked out ofPercy Warner Park or we'd get
(17:21):
kicked out of all these placesin Nashville.
But people would do it.
They'd film as much as theycould get and then they would
leave.
Tiffany Mason (17:28):
Yeah, okay.
Well, we have talked in thepast about artists having these
great tour buses, or artiststhat have had to leave their
kiddos at home, and so thesewere just kind of some
heartwarming stories that wethought we would share.
Kelly Clarkson she hadsurprised her fans by belting
out Since You've Been Gone withher kids on stage, the Vegas
audience has got a bonus dose ofadorable family vibes.
Jay Franze (17:54):
That's awesome.
Talk about probably one of thebest songs ever.
That's an absolutely amazingsong, Trey.
What are your thoughts on Kelly?
Trey Calloway (18:02):
I love Kelly
Clarkson man.
I man, I remember god, I don'teven remember how, what I was
when since she's been gone andnow I remember being a little
upset that she wasn't a countryartist.
She did, of course, a couplecrossover stuff later on, but
she was really mainly a popartist and I was.
I was sad to see that because Ididn't.
I didn't feel quite like aboutpop back then the way I do now.
You know, when I was a was, like you know, country music's
(18:24):
the best and blah, blah, blah.
But I love Kelly Clarkson, Ithink she's a good role model
and I like her TV show.
I watched her show a couple oftimes.
I definitely think she's areally cool man and I would have
to say she's probably one ofthe best female vocalists that's
ever lived.
Maybe one of the best vocalists.
Jay Franze (18:50):
You know one of the
best vocalists.
You know I don't mean toseparate the two, I'd say she's
probably one of the bestvocalists that's ever appeared.
Trey Calloway (18:54):
So just an
incredible voice man, so would
you say she could sing betterthan paul mccartney?
Jay Franze (18:56):
technically, yes, it
requires a story real quick,
jerry, I was at the grammys withbob bullock, famous producer.
We we were at a Grammy party inNashville and he was all upset
that Kelly Clarkson won theGrammy for Best Vocalist over
Paul McCartney.
And I told him I said well, she's better.
(19:18):
And he lost his mind on me.
He said no, she's not better.
I said look, it didn't say BestSongwriter, it said Best
Vocalist and she's clearly the.
I said look, it didn't say bestsongwriter, it said best
vocalist, and she's clearly thebetter vocalist.
Trey Calloway (19:27):
But that created
quite the story yeah, well, you
know you, when you think, whenyou talk about impact on the
music business, I mean that's noquestion, paul mccartney's one
of the biggest musicians that'sever lived, not just like right,
even in our time.
I mean, he's literally likemozart.
I mean I think a thousand yearsfrom now they'll still be
(19:48):
talking about paul mccartney andthe beatles music.
But I don't know, I don't, I, Ican't say he's like the best
singer in the world and I don'teven think he would say that,
right, I don't necessarily thinkhe would say that.
He would say I'm a good singerand I'm, I'm able to get that
message across with emotion, which is really more important
than anything.
But like you're right, flat out, you know singing.
(20:08):
There's not many people thatcan touch that woman.
You know what I'm saying sorry, bob.
Tiffany Mason (20:17):
Well, someone
else who had an adorable family
moment was mr jason aldean.
We shared last time that hiskids got to see the tour bus, so
his kids are on tour with himand their names are Memphis and
Navy and they ran on stage for asweet post-show hug, wrapping
up dad's set in heartwarmingstyle.
And someone else that might behaving a heartwarming moment
(20:40):
with their family Mr ColeSwindell.
He used to not know if he wasgoing to get married or not, but
now he's expecting his firstbaby, so he was questioning if
it was in the cards, but nowhe's walking down the aisle and
he's gearing up for fatherhood.
Jay Franze (20:54):
Be careful, Cole.
I didn't want to get marriedeither.
I didn't want to have kids.
Now I have three.
Three kids, not three wives.
It's a whole different story.
Three kids, not three wives.
Tiffany Mason (21:05):
It's a whole
different story.
I don't know how any guy doesthat.
I mean, every man isoverwhelmed with the one they
got.
Jay Franze (21:11):
Yes, it sounds great
on paper, it's not.
Trust me, it's not a good thing.
You don't want to be involved.
I had a picture with my familyand a friend of ours this week
and everybody kept asking me whothe girl was.
I said, well, it's mygirlfriend.
And they're like are youkidding me?
That's your wife right there.
I'm like, yeah, she knows it'sokay.
So, anyways, I tried that for alittle while.
Tiffany Mason (21:36):
It didn't work.
Dre, have you ever had your soncome out on stage with you or
any moments like that?
Have you ever had a?
Jay Franze (21:42):
girlfriend in
addition to his wife.
Have you ever had multiplegirlfriends or wives.
Trey Calloway (21:49):
It's hard enough
to juggle one man.
I don't think I could juggleanother I don't think I could
juggle another.
I'm a one-woman guy man.
But no, no, no, I have.
His name is Cash, my son's nameis Cash, taking him to the
beach tomorrow we're going to goget us some beach time, but no,
I have.
He's come on stage with meseveral times now and I did a
song about a year ago now calledWorking Thing, with my buddy,
(22:11):
justin Bilton, and he's the bassplayer for Three Doors Down.
He's also a country artist.
So we wrote this song calledWorking Thing and we went and
cut it and Cash just loves thatsong and he'll always jump on
stage with me whenever he's atmy show.
He has not seen me in nashvilleyet.
So we got it.
We got to get him out there tomusic city and I really think
he'd fall in love with that townman, I mean it's.
(22:31):
And the older he gets, for awhile I wasn't sure if he was
going to be musical or not, butsince about nine or ten I've
really started to see hismusical talent blossoming.
He was singing in the trucktoday and I can't.
What song was it?
It was a heavy metal song.
We were singing, he was nailingit note for note and then he
was like humming along with theguitar solo and he had the
(22:53):
guitar solo memorized and he wassinging every note of the
guitar solo too and I was like Iwas like that's, that's pretty
impressive, and he's he'swritten songs and stuff.
He's played me some stuff he'swritten and you know the ideas
aren't flushed out, but therhyme schemes, the ABC, the AABs
, all of the order that it takesto be a good songwriter is all
(23:16):
there.
He's definitely got that way ofputting words together.
So it'll be interesting to see.
He says he claims he wants tobe a rapper as of right now.
He's big into Eminem, he lovesEminem, he loves Kendrick Lamar,
but he also loves country musictoo, because he's grown up
listening to it.
So you never know, he may be arapper, he may be a country
singer, he may be a heavy metalbass player.
Jay Franze (23:38):
My daughter is 10,
and she's into Eminem as well.
So who knows, maybe it's a10-year-old thing.
Tiffany Mason (23:45):
Now, trey, you
said he hasn't been to Nashville
yet.
You think he would fall in love.
Are you nervous that he wouldfall in love, that he'd get to
bug?
Trey Calloway (23:56):
Nervous in a good
way.
I think that if he came outthere and sees what I actually
do on a regular basis, I thinkhe would fall in love with it.
You know I'm going to highlyhighly stress to him when he
gets older that he finished allof his school and stuff.
You know, cause for me it waslike it was all I could do to
get out of high school.
And then I said, you know, nocollege for me.
(24:17):
I know I want to play music fora living and so I dedicated
myself to that and I'm glad Idid.
But I'm also not glad that Inever experienced the college
experience.
But I guess the college debt isone thing that I don't carry
around.
I know a lot of my friends arein some serious college debt, so
I don't have that.
But I was always dedicated tomusic, All the bands I was in.
(24:40):
That was like my fraternity.
A band is like a fraternity ina way and that was like my
fraternity.
You know, a band is like afraternity in a way.
I really want him to finish hisschool and have more options,
because his daddy really don'thave any options.
You know, it's either music or,you know, go work with my hands
and you know, I might start arestaurant.
I've jokingly said that if Idon't make it in the music
(25:00):
business, I'm going to go starta restaurant down at the beach
and just be a beach bum thatmakes awesome food at this beach
shack and plays gigs out frontof it or whatever.
But, who knows, that soundslike the life.
I mean, honestly, that actuallysounds like a pretty good life.
So that's that's my backup planas of right now to start a
restaurant.
If I, if I don't make it, if Idon't make the big time like I
(25:21):
want to, I think I might, uh, Idon't know just start a little
beach shack, Not like a superlow class beach shack, like
somewhere in the middle, whereyou can walk in there wearing a
swim front and a t-shirt or youcan walk in there like on a nice
date night kind of thing too.
You seem to maybe need to put alittle bit more thought into
(25:44):
this.
Well, you know, as as a fatherand a husband, you know I do
think about, hey, what's goingto happen if I don't get
everything I want from the musicbusiness?
You know, I do think about thatstuff.
I mean, I, I, uh, of coursemusic is my lifelong dream.
I mean, I'm, I've dedicated andcontinue to dedicate everything
to it.
But you know, it's the chancesof me ever being the next Dark
(26:07):
Brooks or the next George Strait.
It's a long shot.
You know how it goes, man.
So if it doesn't happen the wayI want it to, I'll always play
music.
Y'all going to come eat in mybeach restaurant with me,
Absolutely.
My father-in-law startedcalling me Chef Trey.
I think the name's going tostick Definitely on the shore
(26:27):
somewhere, a tropical kind ofenvironment.
I lived in South Carolina forsix years.
So definitely I moved fromCharlotte, North Carolina, where
I'm from, to South Carolina andthen so I kind of claimed both
the Carolinas as home.
But that beach life definitelysank into my soul.
I did it really sank into mysoul.
So it would definitely be abeach bar slash restaurant
(26:50):
forever.
Jay Franze (26:52):
All right.
Miss Tiffany, why don't youwrap us up on the news here?
Tiffany Mason (26:56):
Yeah, okay.
Well, I think we're going toend with Mr Zach Brown.
So Zach Brown, the front man,has dropped over 60 pounds.
He says that he's just beendoing clean eating, he has done
daily sweat.
He had Trace tapping the oldbicep suns out, guns out, and he
said he even cranks up videogames during cardio.
(27:17):
He's also relying on monthly IVtreatments to stay youthful on
the road.
But he's not going to be on theroad to stay youthful on the
road.
But he's not going to be on theroad.
In December His love and fearresidency at the sphere is
launching and so he's betting onjaw dropping production and the
emotional storytelling tied tothe release of his new album.
(27:37):
So I guess we're going toexpect a slend down Zach Brown
for his residency.
So that's kind of exciting.
And also, like I've been onthis whole clean eating, you
know, and trying to, you know, daily workout and it feels good
man.
So I'm excited for him.
And how much better is he goingto enjoy that residency by just
(27:58):
feeling better.
So good for him.
Jay Franze (28:01):
Tracer, have you
been to the sphere yet?
Trey Calloway (28:05):
I have not.
I've only been to Vegas onetime in my life.
It was a while ago and theSphere was not built yet.
But my wife and I are going onour one-year anniversary trip.
We're going to go to Vegas andthen we're going to rent a car
and drive from.
Vegas to the Grand Canyon.
So we're going to kind of makeit a big road trip that circles
from Vegas to the Grand Canyon.
So we're going to kind of makeit a big road trip that circles
from Vegas to the Grand Canyonand then back.
Jay Franze (28:27):
I have to know you
mentioned your wife.
Do you guys actually livetogether now?
Trey Calloway (28:32):
So no, so it's.
My life is very complicated,jay.
I have been living in Nashvillefor three and a half years.
My wife is a civil engineer andwe have a house in Myrtle Beach
, south Carolina.
That's where she lives.
She lives and works in SouthCarolina, and I live and work in
(28:52):
Nashville, and my son is frommy hometown.
He lives here.
I'm in my hometown right now,and so we I make this big
triangle every month to go seehim, and then sometimes I get to
go home to South Carolina, butnot very often, but we usually
meet in the middle, in theCharlotte area is usually where
(29:13):
we meet.
It's been tough, jay, it's.
I'm not going to lie to you andsay that it's been an easy
thing, because it certainly hasnot not, but we both realized
that while her and I are bothstill young and and trying to
establish ourselves in life,it's the best thing for us to do
, and her and I are closer thanwe've ever been.
I mean honest, honest to god.
We're closer than we've everbeen I'd be close to my wife.
Jay Franze (29:36):
I didn't live near
either we talk every day.
Trey Calloway (29:39):
I mean we're more
in love now than we've ever
been.
We're really we are I will saywe are really looking forward to
this Vegas trip because it'llbe good.
It'll really be like the firstchance that we've been able to
be alone for a while.
So we're really excited aboutit, man.
But no, when I talk about itsome people go how do you do
that?
(29:59):
And I'm like to me and her.
It's become our way of life now.
And it is like to me and her.
It's become our way of life now.
And it is tricky, man.
But you know, if I do get tothat big stage one day, it'll be
a lot of traveling and a lot oftouring.
Her and I are both prepared forthat.
And I mean, man, I couldn'thave gotten any luckier with
wives.
I mean, she's the best wife inthe world.
Jay Franze (30:20):
I just want to point
out you did say that plural.
Tiffany Mason (30:24):
Yeah.
Jay Franze (30:26):
I got that too.
Maybe there's more to this thanwe can get to.
Trey Calloway (30:32):
No, she's the
best wife in the world.
She really is All right that'sbetter.
She's been on a business tripthis week, man.
She's been traveling all overNorth Carolina with her company
man.
She's rubbing elbows with thebig wigs at her company man and
her boss and his wife are greatfriends of ours as well and I
told him today that I wanted tobe the spokesperson for their
(30:53):
company I don't know how that'sgoing to work a buckle wearing
cowboy hat wearing countrysinger, right being the
spokesperson for a civilengineering company but we'll
find some kind of way to make itwork all right question of the
day.
Jay Franze (31:07):
What is an
overplayed 80s song that you
never get tired of?
Miss t Tiffany, I always say it.
Do you want to go first or doyou want me to go down and read
some of the comments?
Tiffany Mason (31:17):
I will forever
hold my silence, till the end.
Jay Franze (31:20):
I don't think
there's a forever and holding
silence that is associated withyour name.
Tiffany Mason (31:28):
Truth, truth.
Jay Franze (31:29):
All right, trey, sir
, I'm going to give you the
option.
Would you like to go the option?
Would you like to go first orwould you like me to read some
first?
Trey Calloway (31:36):
yeah, I'll go
first.
I'll go first.
I have two.
Can I say two?
Jay Franze (31:39):
he does not know the
rules all right, I'll just pick
one.
Trey Calloway (31:42):
Don't stop
believing about journey don't
stop believing it's overplayed, but I never get tired of hearing
it.
It is so overplayed and I Iwork on broadway so I hear it 14
times a night.
But but here's how I am withwith certain songs.
I never get tired of hearingthe record like I'm a little bit
(32:02):
tired of playing devil wentdown to georgia, but I never get
tired of hearing charliedaniel's version of devil went
down to georgia.
I never get tired of it.
It's just a musical masterpiece, and so is don't stop Believin'
.
That's my answer.
My other one was going to beLivin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi.
Jay Franze (32:17):
Also played every
night on Broadway.
Trey Calloway (32:20):
I love both of
them.
Jay Franze (32:21):
I have a feeling
that Don't Stop.
Believin' is going to show upon this list 5,000 times tonight
.
Tiffany Mason (32:26):
I mean, it was on
mine.
Jay Franze (32:28):
Don't go making shit
up tonight, miss Devane, don't
go making shit up tonight.
Tiffany Mason (32:30):
Look, look, look,
look, look, it's right there.
Jay Franze (32:32):
All right, right
there, right there, right there,
all right.
Tiffany Mason (32:40):
Well, Karen says
George Strait, Amarillo by
morning, Amarillo by morning.
Jay Franze (32:43):
She says, it still
gives me goosebumps every time I
hear that fiddle kick in.
Trey Calloway (32:51):
Trey.
I'm not tired of that song atall.
I love it.
I love anything George Strait.
Honestly, I will say I have, asI've progressed as a country
artist, I have found newer well, new, but new to me George
Strait songs that I will play, more so than the ones unless
they're recorded Like FullHearted.
Memory is one we've been doinga lot lately because I never
(33:11):
played it before.
I moved to town and then now Istarted playing it and I love it
.
I don't know.
Emerald by Morning is an okayone with me.
I'm not tired of it yet.
Jay Franze (33:21):
Would you say that
George Strait is probably the
most important man in countrymusic?
Trey Calloway (33:27):
My vote would be
that George Jones is the
greatest country singer of alltime, but George Strait is
undisputedly the king of countrymusic.
I think he is the archetype ofcountry music.
When you think a country musicsinger, most people are going to
think either Johnny Cash orGeorge Strait.
Jay Franze (33:48):
So who's the most
important man in country music?
Tiffany Mason (33:52):
Influential.
Jay Franze (33:53):
Important we changed
it to influential halfway
through oh.
Trey Calloway (33:59):
I'm going to say
George Jones.
Jay Franze (34:00):
All right, fair
enough, moving on.
Trey Calloway (34:03):
There's a couple
of them that I would pick If I
could pick like five, like whoare the five most influential
country artists of all time.
But if I got to pick this one,it's George Jones five most
influential country artists ofall time, but if I've got to
pick just one, it's George Jones.
Jay Franze (34:14):
Well, there was a
list of 25, and we felt George
straight and Garth Brooks shouldhave been fighting it out for
one and two, but come to findout they were not for whatever
reason and it's pretty weird.
Trey Calloway (34:27):
It's pretty weird
Garth Brooks does not get the
credit, especially nowadays.
I think that he truly deserves.
I think I've maybe told youbefore Jeremy Garth is my
favorite country artist of alltime.
He's the reason I play countrymusic for a living.
It's because I heard Rope inthe Wind.
That whole album made me wantto be a country singer.
But I think George Jones has togo down in history as the
greatest country voice of alltime.
(34:48):
In my opinion, and he's mydad's favorite country singer
all time.
In my opinion, and he's mydad's favorite country singer
george jones is like part of thereligion in the calloway
household.
Jay Franze (34:57):
Nice, all right.
Tiffany Mason (34:57):
Moving on, mike
says alabama mountain music oh
yeah, if it came on, I'd behoedown on hoedown.
Jay Franze (35:11):
You'd be hoedown.
Trey Calloway (35:22):
I would be.
I would be tapping my foot onthe dance floor, trey, it's hard
for me to answer a lot of thesebecause these are songs I've
played a million times and I'm alittle sick of playing them.
I think there are a lot ofAlabama songs that are better
than that song but don't get thecredit for some reason.
Like I think Roll On Highway ismy favorite Alabama song.
We hardly ever get requestedthat one and that's my favorite
one to play.
Tony Scott (35:42):
You know which one
I'm talking about.
Trey Calloway (35:43):
Roll on highway,
roll on along.
That's my favorite one of alltime.
And then it's now.
She's a lady down on love, sheneeds somebody I mean that one
like to me that's peak alabamaor closer you get, further I
fall that one too.
(36:04):
So I'm just sick of playingmouth music a little bit, but I
still enjoy it.
Tiffany Mason (36:11):
Those are all
good other Alabama songs.
Those are all good picks, andmy daddy did drive an 18-wheeler
.
Jay Franze (36:18):
He drove a
17-wheeler.
Tiffany Mason (36:21):
No, he didn't.
Jay Franze (36:22):
He was missing a few
lug nuts.
Alright, I think this is.
I'm going to have to spell it.
You can tell me what you thinkit says?
A-n-t-a-r-m-e-n.
Tiffany Mason (36:36):
Antarum.
Jay Franze (36:37):
Antarum says I agree
with Trey Don't stop believing
by Journey.
Tiffany Mason (36:43):
Yeah yeah yeah,
trey.
Trey Calloway (36:46):
I mean honestly,
don't Stop Believing is probably
like one of the top 10 biggestsongs of all time.
I mean it's got to be.
There's probably not a humanbeing, I'll say, in America that
doesn't know that song.
I agree with you.
Maybe the world, any civilizedplace where there's like a city,
(37:08):
people are going to know thatsong.
Jay Franze (37:11):
Absolutely All right
.
I was going to say yes, I thinkit'd be the world all right,
let's see where you know, journey is jay's favorite band,
yeah yeah, journey has alwaysbeen one of my favorites.
They were my favorite growingup, for sure.
Trey Calloway (37:27):
True, yeah, I
love journey.
Jay Franze (37:29):
I mean I've separate
ways is my favorite journey
song see, I think that's whereJourney started to jump to
Sharper.
Trey Calloway (37:36):
That's a whole
different story that music video
is great, though, where they'relike sitting on that dock
someday someday love will findyou.
I think he was wearing the sameshirt I'm wearing now they were
in a warehouse outside of awarehouse, oh yeah got it I
(37:58):
remember it and they're.
Jay Franze (37:59):
They're playing air
instruments and stuff cheapest
music video ever right yeah it'sa great song.
Trey Calloway (38:08):
You can have a
bad music video for a song that
good all right, let's see.
Jay Franze (38:12):
See what Sarah has
to say.
Reba McIntyre Whoever's in NewEngland.
Tiffany Mason (38:18):
Pretty good song.
Trey Calloway (38:20):
I like that song.
It's not my favorite Reba song, for sure.
No fancy.
I like Little Rock, Little Rock.
Tiffany Mason (38:30):
I like that song
a lot.
Trey Calloway (38:30):
That's probably
my favorite Reba song.
I love that song a lot.
That's probably my favorite.
Tiffany Mason (38:36):
I love that song.
Jay Franze (38:38):
All right.
Well, Laura says the Juddsgrandpa.
Tiffany Mason (38:42):
There, you go.
Trey Calloway (38:47):
The Judds are the
greatest country music duo of
all time, besides Brooks andDunn.
The Judds don't talk about.
The Judds are the greatestcountry music duo of all time,
besides Brooks and Dunn theJudds.
Jay Franze (38:59):
Don't talk about the
Judds.
Trey Calloway (39:00):
The Judds are
goat status Well to be fair,
laura was saying they're good,I'm saying Noah's and I disagree
.
I think the Judds, everythingthe Judds ever did, is amazing.
Jay Franze (39:08):
All right, hold on,
hold on, Because Laura's saying
that's the song she can listento.
She says it reminds me of asimpler time and of my own
grandparents.
Trey Calloway (39:17):
Okay, good, I
misunderstood.
Then I was like I love theJudds I don't think you guys
truly understand Like I have amassive crush on the 80s Judds.
I wish I could go back in time.
Jay Franze (39:32):
All right, miss
Tiffany, I just want to say I
think he would throw fists.
Tiffany Mason (39:36):
I think he would
too, because he got real fired
up just over an opinion.
Jay Franze (39:40):
Can you imagine what
would happen if somebody threw
a ball at him?
Tiffany Mason (39:43):
No, no, I don't
want to see it.
I don't want to see it.
And he already showed us hisguns.
Jay Franze (39:47):
Trey, we're going to
keep you on mute for a few
minutes because I think you'veearned yourself a time out.
Tiffany Mason (39:52):
Just take a
couple deep breaths.
I will tell you, though afterone of our last episodes, I
brought up the song Grandpa, andthen we found who was it Dave
Fenley.
Jay Franze (40:02):
Yes.
Tiffany Mason (40:03):
F-E-N-L-E-Y.
Oh, it's a good rendition.
Jay Franze (40:10):
You've got to go
check it out if you're a big fan
of that song.
It was so good.
Trey, you hang tight afteryou're making it this far.
You're going to hang tightuntil this is over.
I'll play it for you.
I think you'll enjoy it.
It was so good, all right, jenny, not my wife, but a Jenny
says Dwight Yoakam guitars andCadillacs.
Tiffany Mason (40:29):
Now I worked at a
restaurant and they played it
all the time and it just makesme think of that stupid job and
no it's ruined for me.
Jay Franze (40:39):
She says she worked
at a restaurant.
She owned the restaurant.
I'm just throwing that outthere.
Tiffany Mason (40:43):
That wasn't the
one we owned.
Jay Franze (40:44):
Oh, sorry, it wasn't
that one, trey.
Go ahead, trey.
Trey Calloway (40:53):
Yeah, I'm a
little sick of guitarist Cadacs.
If I'm being honest, I likefast as you.
That's my favorite blight yokelsong to sing fast that people
just get super amped when youstart that riff when you break
oh yeah, yeah, that's a goodlive show song and I like
guitars, cadillacs, but I'vejust played it a million times
and, like I said, it's hard forme to be not personal with these
(41:16):
songs because I've played themall a million times.
So it's kind of tough.
I'm a little sick of it.
Jay Franze (41:22):
All right, Dave says
I misunderstood.
I made a list of my favorite80s songs.
Sorry, Most of my 80s favoriteswere underplayed.
It's been a few decades but.
Tony Scott (41:40):
Every.
Jay Franze (41:40):
Little Thing she
Does is Magic by the Police is a
bit overplayed, all right.
Tiffany Mason (41:47):
But still sounds
good when it comes on the radio.
It does, but I agree it'soverplayed.
Jay Franze (41:52):
Now I want to know
what the other songs on his list
were.
But Trey, what are yourthoughts on?
Every Little Thing?
Trey Calloway (42:00):
I actually don't
know that song.
Jay Franze (42:02):
Oh, yes, you do.
Trey Calloway (42:04):
Is the song, is
the police, Every breath you
take yes.
I love that song.
Every smile you take.
Jay Franze (42:12):
I would tell Tiffany
to sing it to you.
All right, Tiffany, sing them alittle bit.
Tiffany Mason (42:24):
No, I feel like
Trey is one of those people that
would have been on AmericanIdol and they would have been
like oh man, you could sing thephone book.
If you can sing the phone book, you can sing.
That's what I think they wouldsay to Trey.
I don't really listen to thatall day long, man.
Jay Franze (42:38):
Just start on the
A's and not the Z's.
We've already established howhard the X's can be.
Anna Marie no Bolet Photography.
That's a friend of mine okay, Ifigured it would be um jump van
halen oh jump, yeah.
Tiffany Mason (43:00):
Yeah, it's a good
one.
A lot of people like it that'sright.
Trey Calloway (43:04):
so so my dad is a
big, big van halen fan and I I
grew up listening to van halen,so I would say that I've gone
through phases in my life whereI was a little bit sick of jump,
but all in all, if I hear jumpsomewhere, I'm like going to get
amped, I'm going to be like Imean, I love, I love all that
(43:29):
stuff.
I mean and like I, but I willsay I have an unpopular opinion.
I like Sammy Hagar better thanI like David Lee Roth's voice.
Jay Franze (43:38):
Hands down.
Trey Calloway (43:39):
So I like Van
Hagar, but I do like Van Halen.
I like David Lee Roth too, butI just think Sammy Hagar was a
better singer.
Jay Franze (43:48):
It's like going back
to Kelly Clarkson and Paul
McCartney.
Sammy Hagar can sing, david LeeRoth was just a front man.
I think if we talk about jump,it's the same as Journey's
Separate Ways.
That's where Van Halen jumpedthe shark, because they wanted
to play 80s music and bring insynths and try and do something
that they weren't.
Trey Calloway (44:09):
Yeah, really jump
.
There's like jump.
And then I think think is I'llwait on that, that album too.
I'll wait till your love runsout.
I'm coming straight for yourheart that's david lee raw and I
think that's like the only twosynth songs.
(44:30):
They only only tried it on thatalbum.
They didn't really go crazysynth on that album, Because the
rest of it is like I think IceCream Man's on that album too,
Like I'm your ice cream man.
Tiffany Mason (44:41):
That's a great
song.
Trey Calloway (44:43):
Oh yeah, they're
all great that whole album is
great dude.
Jay Franze (44:46):
I think Ice Cream
man I thought that was before
that album, but Panama's on thatalbum.
Trey Calloway (44:49):
I'm either
thinking I think Ice Cream man
is on 1984.
I think it is.
And then, of course, eruption'son 1984 too no.
Jay Franze (44:57):
Eruption's not on
1984.
Trey Calloway (44:59):
Eruption is on.
Jay Franze (45:01):
You're making me
question everything you've told
us tonight.
Trey Calloway (45:04):
Are you sure?
Eruption's on it you Really GotMe is the lead track of
whatever album I'm thinkingabout, and then Eruption is the
second track.
Jay Franze (45:11):
Van, of whatever
album I'm thinking about, and
then Eruption is the secondtrack Van Halen's self-titled
album.
Trey Calloway (45:15):
Okay so, van
Halen has got the one with you
Really Got Me and Eruption on it.
Okay so what's the first trackon 1984?
Jay Franze (45:21):
The first track is
1984.
No, that's back to the otherone as well.
Those are the early ones.
That's when Van Halen wasreally good.
Trey Calloway (45:28):
That's what I
like.
That's what I like.
That's what I grew up listeningto.

(51:16):
She's like an angel.
You know what I'm saying.
So, uh, no, no, she's.
She's phenomenal and so sadthat we thought that this earth
lost her so soon.
Have you ever seen that videoof Kevin Costner at that award

You know he was like in lovewith her when they were filming
the bodyguard.
I fell in love with her, likecompletely fell in love with her
(51:37):
, and he's sitting there bawling.
He's sitting at this award showand they're like got her up on
the screen and they're doingthis thing about her life and
he's sitting there just bawling.
It's it's one of the mostpowerful things I've ever seen.

He stopped loving her today.
There you go, trey.
Speak to Rachel.
Trey Calloway (52:25):
That's the
greatest country song of all
time.
It has to be at leastconsidered in the talk of the
greatest country songs of alltime.
It's a beautiful song, man.
Tony Scott (52:33):
And it was his
comeback.
Trey Calloway (52:35):
I mean he was
pretty sick of the road and
touring and being George Jones, and then he put that song out
and his career went again.
Tony Scott (52:44):

it too.

Trey Calloway (56:07):
I love Nate Smith
.
I remember that World on Firesong.
He's cool man.
He's mixing that rock thingwith the country.
It's not my style but reallylike respect the hell out of him
for it.
I mean he's doing it well andand he seems to be a really nice
guy.
Every time I see him ininterviews and stuff he seems to
be really like loves fans andloves people, and so I'm.
(56:28):
It's.
It's good to see guys like thatgetting some success never met
him.
Jay Franze (56:32):
I haven't either.
Trey Calloway (56:33):
Good to hear I've
seen interviews and stuff and
he seems really genuine.
You can tell sometimes whensomebody is pretending to be
nice or whatever he don't seemlike that.
Jay Franze (56:43):
What Tiffany's like
every night?
Tiffany Mason (56:48):
No, you can't
fake this kind of genuine-ity,
genuineness.

Trey Calloway (57:26):
My wife's new
favorite song.
She loves that song.
Even though I'm not a brocountry guy, I was always a big
Sam Hunt fan.
I always like Sam Hunt.
He just seems to be a cool guy.
Jay Franze (57:35):
I love the fact that
you said bro country.
Trey Calloway (57:40):
I think he would
even admit he was one of the
poster boys for the bro countryera.
But he's still cool.
He was always cool man.
I was a big fan of him from dayone.
Jay Franze (57:49):
I'm with you sir.
Tiffany Mason (57:51):
Alright.
Number two is Mr Josh Ross.
This is like a tongue twistername.
Tiffany, you're fired, goodbye.
It's hard, it doesn't matter howmany times you try to say it.
Josh Ross, like didn't hisparents say it out loud before
they named him?
Like yes, this is our son, josh, josh, josh, josh, josh.
(58:13):
Like they didn't practice itfirst?
That's like the number.
I always did a yell test beforewe named any of our kids, like
if they were getting in troubleor something you know, like
Hannah Elizabeth Mason that hadenough confidence that you could
really get behind it with somebite.
Jay Franze (58:30):
All right, say it
three times fast.
Trey Calloway (58:33):
Josh Ross.
Josh Ross.
Honestly, I've never heard thissong, so I don't know.
Jay Franze (58:39):
Yes, you have,
there's no way.
Trey Calloway (58:40):
You've not heard
this song.
Tiffany Mason (58:41):
Oh, you've
definitely heard it Single again
.
Trey Calloway (58:44):
Oh, oh, you wanna
live and be Single again.
Oh yeah, yeah, I like that song.
Tiffany Mason (58:48):
No no.
Trey Calloway (58:49):
I do, I do like
it.
Yeah, it grew on me.
Tiffany Mason (58:52):
No, it's, it's
when you're all over him.
I hope you're all over me.
I got a king size bed, justmissing a queen.
Trey Calloway (59:05):
Yeah, yeah, yeah,
I'll be your first call.
Yeah, you're talking aboutsingle again, right?
Yeah, that's what I was justsaying.
Okay, I was thinking you willnever be single again.
Yeah, yeah, I love that song.
It grew on me.
I was thinking you will neverbe single again.
Yeah, yeah, I love that song itgrew on me.
I didn't.
I didn't love it at first, butit grew on me and now I really
like it for sure.
Jay Franze (59:26):
Children, do not
make me turn the show around.
Tiffany Mason (59:29):
Well, I love that
one so much.
A because Hannah and I got tomeet him with.
Jay and I were exchangingpictures of when we met Josh
Ross.
And then I love that he alludesto Nashville with his saying
the 615 area code.
You know you can hit me up on615.
I don't know why that's like socool to me, but it's going to
(59:49):
come up in the number one songas well because Mr Morgan Wallen
, just in case he brings upDemumbrion, and so I just think
that that's so cool.
Jay Franze (01:00:00):
I don't know why
it's cool.
You said the membrane again.
Tiffany Mason (01:00:03):
I know, I know
You're so proud of me, but yeah,
so it's going to be MorganWallen.
Just in case, he went fromnumber two spot to the number
one spot and I hope he holds itfor a minute, man.
I just want to say you didn'teven allow for a drum roll
tonight.
Trey Calloway (01:00:23):
I got too excited
.
Jay, there you go.
Jay Franze (01:00:26):
All right, well, no
drum roll, but still we made it
through.
Tiffany Mason (01:00:31):
We still got
there.
Jay Franze (01:00:33):
Everybody knows
what's up.
All right, trey sir.
Tiffany Mason (01:00:36):
Wait, I want to
ask, trey, something really
quick.
So I got so excited because Ilove the words and the storyline
and all that kind of stuff andI wanted to ask you, when you
were talking about when you'recollaborating with the other
studio musicians and they giveyou some ideas and everything
like that are you also asflexible with your lyrics?
Because I wonder if, becauseyou don't play all these
(01:00:59):
instruments, if that's whyyou're a little bit more
flexible on what they do with it, but the words are kind of your
craft.
So do you feel as open when itcomes to the lyrics?
Because that's what I love somuch and that's why I get so
fired up about, you know, themorgan wallen, just in case song
or whatever right.
Trey Calloway (01:01:16):
So just kind of
curious I mean, we actually had
a similar thing happen.
A kind of thing like thathappened on this last session we
did.
Tom bukebeck came into thevocal booth after listening to
the work tape and he said, um,there's something funky going on
right here.
He's like how about we try this?
And he played it for me and Ihad thought the same thing
(01:01:37):
before going into the studio, but I didn't speak up.
You know, I just didn't want tochange the plan at the last
minute or whatever, but I hadwritten this extra line and when
I picked up the guitar andplayed it for him.
I changed.
He was like that's exactly whatI'm talking about, can we do
that?
And I was like, yeah, I washoping we would be able to do
that.
So we made that change on thefly.
And no, I mean, I'm 100, youknow, flexible.
(01:01:59):
I mean when I'm in a song,right, and I'm with co-writers
or whatever, I I will, unless myrule of thumb is kind of,
unless I am like obsessed withthis line, like this is the line
that makes the song.
I'm willing to be outvoted onsomething you know, unless I'm
like dead, completely convincedthat like we cannot take this
(01:02:19):
line out or change it, or likeit has to be in there.
I'll make us think about that.
But I'm usually kind of, if youwrite with a group of three you
and two other people you canoutvote somebody and say, hey,
what do you think about this?
And you can vote two to one onthe idea.
So, no, no, absolutely not.
I'm.
I'm not a stickler about any ofthat stuff.
No, I think many you know, morehands in the pot make a better
(01:02:43):
product, got it?
Thanks, tiffany, that's a goodquestion.
Jay Franze (01:02:48):
You earned your way
back on the show Fine.
Trey Calloway (01:02:51):
Yeah.
Jay Franze (01:02:52):
All right, real
quick thoughts on Morgan Wallen.
Trey Calloway (01:02:56):
My thoughts, or
Tiffany's thoughts.
Jay Franze (01:02:58):
Your thoughts or we
don't care about Tiffany.
Trey Calloway (01:03:01):
I think Morgan
Wallen is the modern-day Garth
Brooks.
I mean, he's the biggest thingin country music.
There's no doubt about it, andI think that, for a lot of guys
that are out there trying toemulate what he's doing, if
you're trying to emulate whatanother artist is doing, then're
you're not doing the rightthing.
You got to find your own thing.
That's you, and so, though I donot try to emulate him, I have
(01:03:24):
a ton of respect for hisartistry and there's no doubt
that, like, he's gonna be one ofthe biggest country artists
that ever lived.
By the time it's all said anddone, he's breaking all kinds of
records and stuff.
I mean, people say he can'tsing.
I I don't agree.
I think he's a phenomenal singer, you know.
I I think he's growing up.
From what I'm seeing, he'smaturing and growing up and I'm
(01:03:49):
glad to see that.
I'm really glad to see him kindof start finally starting to
realize like, hey, I'm a rolemodel.
People are watching what I do,and I need to, I need to be
living right.
At least I hope he is From oneguy to another.
That's what I would tell him isthere's a lot of weight.
People watch what you do veryclosely.
There's a lot of weight on whatyou do and so you have to be a
(01:04:10):
leader, and I think that he is.
It seems like he's starting tocome around to understanding
that.
But as he's starting to comearound to understanding that.
But as far as his music goes, Ienjoy his music.
We play a lot of his songs.
Jay Franze (01:04:26):
A lot we do um, the
way I talk and whiskey glasses
and chasing you, and I love myfavorite one by him, that's uh,
sand in my boots, that's myfavorite song by him I think you
say he's the modern day garthbrooks and I think you could say
that with the level of successhe's the modern day garthth
Brooks and I think you could saythat with the level of success
he's the modern-day Garth Brooks.
Trey Calloway (01:04:44):
But if you're
talking about musical style, I
would say that you were themodern-day.
Tiffany Mason (01:04:45):
Garth Brooks.
I'll take that I would agree.
Trey Calloway (01:04:46):
Well, I
appreciate you saying that, Jay.
That makes me happy.
Hopefully We'll see if I've gotto have that first hit.
You've got to have that firsthit before you can have all them
hits.
You know what I mean.
Jay Franze (01:04:58):
You have the first
hit.
It's just that nobody has heardit yet.
Tiffany Mason (01:05:08):
All right, miss
Tiffany, what do you got going
on this week?
Well, you know what, I havegotten a couple of new clients
and I have been doing a ton ofclient work and I've been
working ahead a little bit onclient work.
And you know what, today wasthe day and I was like I'm doing
my podcast episode today.
So tomorrow we got some freshmemories of the beat.
It is with Salisha Thomas Weissand she is a Broadway performer
(01:05:31):
and she is married to AndrewWeiss and he is with Podfest,
and so that was where Ioriginally made the connection.
I think you know Andrew.
So this is his wife.
She is extremely animated.
You think I am animated?
No, no, no, I am like dullcompared to her.
So it was a very funconversation.
(01:05:52):
She says very fun things, again, just very animated, a lot of
of energy, but it was a reallyfun interview.
So that comes out tomorrow onmemories of the beat.
Jay Franze (01:06:00):
Check it out what
song did she choose?
Tiffany Mason (01:06:04):
you're all I need
to get by.
It's by marvin gaye and tammy Icannot remember her last name,
but it's a pretty cool song.
But she has such a cool storywhere it like inspired her after
she moved to new york city andthen she didn't know what she
was going to use for her songwhen she walked down the aisle
to Andrin.
That's actually the song thatshe chose and it's just it's
(01:06:25):
kind of great like deep lovey, Idon't know comfortable feeling
to it.
Yeah, it was just like I said.
It was a fun interview.
I don't know if you have thisexperience experience but like
when you go back to edit, likeit's fun to revisit the
conversation, and so it wasreally fun to to have that
conversation with her again.
As I went through and edited itand it was one that right after
(01:06:46):
we got done recording, I waslike I should just release it
raw.
It was just so good.
Jay Franze (01:06:51):
Trey Tiffany has a
show called memories, with a
beat, where she talks to peopleabout a particular song that
brings back a memory that theyhave.
So that's what we're discussingthis guest and that particular
song.
Tiffany Mason (01:07:03):
Nice.
That's how Jay and I startedour relationship.
Jay Franze (01:07:08):
That's how our
friendship grew.
That's how we got another wifeinvolved Tiffany's number 16.
Lucky number 16, though.
Tiffany Mason (01:07:17):
I want to be
number 8.
I want to be number eight.
Jay Franze (01:07:19):
You want to be
number eight?
Well, it's divisible by two.
There you go.
You're my second eight.
That's all it is.
Tiffany Mason (01:07:27):
Okay, well, I
brought up the song.
Girls Just Want to have Fun.
Jay, what have you been up to?
Jay Franze (01:07:32):
I've had fun.
Tiffany Mason (01:07:34):
Have you.
Jay Franze (01:07:38):
The inner girl in me
has had some fun this week.
Trey, my friend, I've had anopportunity this week.
A friend of mine, a girl namedRocky Rose.
She was on the show a coupletimes now but it's been a little
while.
She's going to have to comeback on, but she is out on the
road with Cyndi Lauper and she'splaying keyboards for Cyndi Lau
Lauper and they came throughtown last night.
(01:08:01):
So a couple of days ago whenthey first got to town, I went
to her hotel, picked her up inbeautiful hotel but it's
absolutely amazing.
Her hotel room had a loft.
I mean, it was just an amazingroom.
It was just absolutelyfantastic.
Tiffany Mason (01:08:17):
But I guess
that's what happens when you
travel with Miss Lauper.
Jay Franze (01:08:20):
Also they had a
private section of the hotel
that nobody knows about.
So when the celebrities do cometo town they're in a private
section of the hotel.
And it was funny to me becausethe crew members weren't in the
private section but the bandmembers were in the private
section and she was saying also, the baseball team was in from
out of town the away playersthat play in the Reds this week,
(01:08:43):
which was the Los AngelesDodgers.
They were in the privatesection as well.
But I picked her up and we wentto dinner and my family came
out and met us there.
So we got to eat dinnertogether and talk to her and
catch up.
And then last night my wife andI went to the show, which was
amazing.
It was really cool.
And then after the show we wentback to say hello to everybody.
(01:09:05):
But the funniest part to me ofthe whole thing was when the
show was over and we went out toleave the venue.
We were so late leaving thevenue, all the gates were locked
, so my wife and I we could notget out of the venue and we had
to hunt people down to open upthe gate for us and we walked
(01:09:26):
far because it's an outdoorvenue and it's, you know,
surrounded by gates.
So we walked far to get to thegate where our car was.
So I'm like, okay, so we foundsomebody that led us through the
gate.
Then we go and cross the streetand we get into the gate where
our car was.
So I'm like, okay, so we foundsomebody that led us through the
gate, then we go and cross thestreet and we get into the lot
where our car is and we get inthe car and then that lot's
locked.
We were the only car left inthat lot and it was locked, you
(01:09:49):
were a lot lizard.
We were a lot lizard.
My wife had to go back and findthe security guard that led us
out in the first place, and thenhe find the security guard that
let us out in the first place.
Tiffany Mason (01:10:06):
And then, um, he
let us out of that gate as well
and we were just fools, but Idid.
I put um photos up on the, theinstagram, the gram as the kids
call it.
Those pictures were so cindylauper, I couldn't stand it.
They were so colorful and thatjacket she was wearing the white
jacket with the red polka dotson it.
Like just every shot I was like, of course that's a cindy
lauper concert.
Jay Franze (01:10:18):
Of course that's a
cindy lauper concert tracer,
what do you have going on thisweek?
Trey Calloway (01:10:26):
um, tomorrow
morning at 5 am I'm getting up
and I'm taking cash my son, I'mtaking him to the beach and
we're going to be down therewith my mom and dad and baby
sister and my wife and we'regoing to just have some fun and
have us a little vacation.
My mom and dad have beenworking really hard all year and
haven't been able to take avacation, so they went down
(01:10:46):
there tonight.
They already went down there.
They're enjoying my housewithout me and um and I had to
take.
I had to take my son totaekwondo today.
That's why I didn't get to godown there.
I had to take him to Taekwondoand he had his Taekwondo
pictures today.
So then he had his class and bythe time we got back it was
time for you and I's interview, and so I figured I'd just drive
(01:11:08):
in the morning.
But I'm going to get his littlebutt up early and we're going to
hit the road man and I'mlooking forward to it, man,
because all I do I feel like allI do is work, so I'm looking
forward to a couple days off.
We're going to do a low countrybull down there, um, which uh
people that ain't from southcarolina it's like a seafood
boil and with sausage andpotatoes and stuff and corn and
all that stuff.
(01:11:28):
And then on saturday my dad'sgonna smoke a.
But we, we north carolinapeople, we make barbecue all the
time.
So my dad's got a greatbarbecue recipe and he's wanting
to invite a bunch of my wife'sfamily over because they're all
from Ohio.
He's like I'm going to givethem a little taste of North
Carolina.
And my mom always makes redslaw, which is like a
vinegar-based slaw and it's myfavorite, so she always makes it
(01:11:51):
for me.
And, yeah, we're just going tohave fun and get some sunshine.
Man, I'm looking forward to acouple days off as soon as I get
back next week.
I've got my regular shows.
I've got a couple businessmeetings.
Still working on this album, man, we're trying to plan a tour
for next year.
I'm excited about it, man.
I'm probably 90% chance goingto be on the road a lot next
(01:12:14):
year.
I won't be playing in Nashville.
As much, I'm ready.
Man, I'm ready to rock and roll.
Jay Franze (01:12:21):
Alrighty, sir.
Well, Miss Tiffany, we havedone it.
We have reached the top of thehour which does mean we have
reached the end of the show.
