What makes a band truly legendary, and which Canadian artists fit that bill? Join us on a nostalgic trip as we ponder these questions and more, starting with a shout-out to our favorite northern bands. Get a behind-the-scenes look at my experience producing an album for Alison Piccioni, now known as Rocky Rose, who’s currently electrifying audiences on tour with the iconic Cyndi Lauper. We celebrate Lauper’s nomination for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and reflect on the timeless impact of her classic hit "Time After Time." Together with my co-host Tiffany Mason, we fondly recall how the music of Bad Company and others once filled the air at local skating rinks, igniting our love for rock and roll.

Our musical journey continues with a look at the often-blurred boundaries between genres and what truly qualifies an artist for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We examine bands like Blue Oyster Cult, Oasis, and Soundgarden, sharing personal stories like how Soundgarden’s music became a soothing companion during a bumpy flight. While the cancellation of the CMT Awards brings a bit of disappointment, there's joy in discussing new music, including Trey Calloway's heartfelt "Your Love Is Safe With Me," which we predict will become a beloved wedding anthem. Plus, we give a nod to Shibuzy’s chart success and Reba McIntyre’s sweet gesture welcoming Kelsey Ballerini to The Voice.

From the art of music engineering and remembering late greats like Mike Shipley to celebrating the victories of youth cheerleading teams, our conversation covers it all. Dive into stories of Canadian musical talent, like Bryan Adams and Loverboy, and their journey to breaking into the U.S. market. We wrap up with the lighthearted chaos of Orlando traffic, a Super Bowl lip-sync debate, and the relatable highs and lows of family outings and unexpected revelations at Texas Roadhouse. Whether it’s about music, memories, or navigating life’s unexpected turns, this episode is packed with vibrant stories and heartfelt insights.

(01:11):
Question of the night is whoare the best bands from Canada?
Okay, Canadian, our brothersfrom the north.
Who are the best bands fromCanada?
If you would like to chime inon that, please put it in the
chat.
All right, let me just startoff by telling you a little bit
of a story here.

Tiffany Mason (01:32):
Okay, I love your stories, Jay.

Jay Franze (01:34):
I am from Boston.
We all know that.
I've said it a thousand times, people are probably sick of
hearing it, but I am from Boston.
I spent most of my time workingin Nashville.
Well, I had a time when I hadto go back to Boston.
My mother was very sick.
I had to go back and take careof her.
But while I was back there, mybooking agent got me a gig to
produce an album for a girlnamed Alison Piccioni.

(01:57):
Alison Piccioni, she was aBerkeley student just graduating
from Berkeley College of Musicat the time.
She since went on to the LondonConservatory, graduated with
her master's from there and thenmoved out to LA, and she works
in film, movies and plays inseveral bands.
But I worked on this album forher.
We went to a studio in NewHampshire a really nice studio

(02:18):
and we recorded this album.
It was a trio and she sang andplayed piano and played acoustic
guitar.
There was a bass player,drummer.
It was a trio and she sang andplayed piano and played acoustic
guitar.
There was a bass player,drummer.
It was a really cool album andmy wife actually did the
photography and the graphic artsfor that album.

Tiffany Mason (02:33):
Oh, super cool.

Jay Franze (02:34):
Family business.
Again.
That's how I met my wife.
She was a photographer andgraphic artist in Nashville and
we ended up working on the sameprojects a lot.
So we met.
We weren't supposed to dateSomehow.
We did.
I should have listened to them.
I mean, babe, if you'relistening, just a joke.
Anyways, so I recorded thisalbum, but the reason why I

(02:57):
bring this up is because AlisonPiccioni, an amazing artist,
amazing talent, has taken on adifferent name since then.
She now goes by Rocky Rose andRocky Rose lives in Los Angeles.
She does composing for movies, like I said mentioned.
She plays in a few differentbands, but she is currently out

(03:18):
on the road with Cyndi Lauperand they are now over in London.
She's playing with Cyndi Lauperoverseas right now.
They just finished their UStour and now they're overseas.
Wow, the reason why I bringthat up is because Cyndi Lauper
is nominated to go into the Rockand Roll Hall of Fame this year
.

Tiffany Mason (03:38):
Very cool.
That does not surprise me.

Jay Franze (03:41):
It doesn't surprise me at all.
Good nomination.
I like it, so I just thoughtmaybe we could talk about some
of the people who are nominatedto go into the hall of fame this
year not a very big list, so Ijust figured we'd go over some
of them.
So what are your thoughts?

Tiffany Mason (03:53):
on cindy lauper I feel like she was like maybe
madonna looked up to cindylauper, you know like she has.
They have similar flair orwhatever great songs I've.
I've seen her on like theApprentice maybe, and she seemed
like a nice person.
Maybe a little loopy, maybe alittle flighty, but that's our

(04:15):
creatives right.
And so yeah, she seems like anice person.

Jay Franze (04:21):
She's got one of the best songs of all time, and
that's Time After Time and it'sbeen covered Time Mm-hmm, and
it's been covered by so manydifferent artists and what I
like about it is they alwaystake a different spin.
So when somebody covers a song, you get like a rock version or
a jazz version.
It definitely takes on adifferent flair from the way she
sang it, yeah.
So it proves that she's notjust an amazing artist and not

(04:44):
just a gimmick from like the 80s, but her songs stand the test
of time and they're very wellwritten songs well, I think she
has too.
I mean the fact that she's outtouring oh yeah, like a little
credit and because she's notyoung fortunately, this would
probably be her last tour, butyeah but if you want to keep up
with that tour, follow rockyrose on instagram and you get

(05:05):
some of the best photos and someof the behind-the-scenes stuff.
It's really cool.

Tiffany Mason (05:09):
Oh, that's cool.
I thought for a minute you weregoing to say that she changed
her name to Alison Krauss.

Jay Franze (05:13):
No, that'd be a whole different story.
I have connections there too.
One day maybe we'll hit that up.
It's funny stories from thatOther bands that were nominated
Bad Company.
Were you ever a Bad Company fan?

Tiffany Mason (05:27):
Remember hearing them on the radio.
You know like I mean, sadly, honestly, a lot of skating.
So that was like a big thing, you know, for all my friends to
have their birthday party at theskating rink and we'd all go
skate, and so a lot of thosesongs will actually bring up
memories from Skatetown,Skatetown in.

Jay Franze (05:44):
Marshalltown, iowa.
Shout out, I used to be the DJat the local skating rink in
Boston.
Oh fun, nice, huh.

Tiffany Mason (05:53):
All right Bad.

Jay Franze (05:53):
Company was on this list the Black Crows.
You know the Black Crows.

Tiffany Mason (05:57):
Yes, yes.

Jay Franze (05:58):
Mariah Carey's on the list.

Tiffany Mason (06:00):
Okay, big fan of Mariah Carey.

Jay Franze (06:04):
You want to take it a little further back, we can go
with Chubby Checker oh.
How Chubby Checker's notalready in the Rock and Roll
Hall of.

Tiffany Mason (06:09):
Fame.
I don't know, yeah, do you knowhow they choose their nominees?
Like, it seems like for themost part they're a little bit
older, but like Chubby Checkerhe's real old.
So how is there?
Any rhyme or reason Do you knowhow they're selected?

Jay Franze (06:27):
I don't know how they're selected.
I don't have any idea, but Iknow there's a lot of
controversy.
There's a bunch of bands outthere that people think should
be in the Rock and Roll Hall ofFame by now, but aren't.
I mean you get other bands likeJoe Cocker.

Tiffany Mason (06:42):
I would love Joe Cocker to make it in.
He's awesome that seems like ano-brainer.
That should have alreadyhappened as well.

Jay Franze (06:48):
Right, so we might have a better opportunity to go
down the ones who did not makeit.
Do you have any in mind of onesthat have not been in the Hall
of Fame?
That?

Tiffany Mason (06:58):
you would like to see.
Well, I mean, I know you'vesaid Iron Maiden.
Well, I mean, I know you'vesaid Iron Maiden.
Reo Speedwagon seems to beanother no-brainer that I don't
understand how they didn't endup there or nominated, at least.

Jay Franze (07:11):
Bob Bullock Project right there.

Tiffany Mason (07:13):
Oh, is that right .

Jay Franze (07:14):
Yeah, Bob did the REO Speedwagon record.

Tiffany Mason (07:17):
That's cool.

Jay Franze (07:18):
Or one of them.

Tiffany Mason (07:20):
Yeah.
There's multiple records, buthe did one I know, phil Collins,
is on our list.
I feel like he's at a millionrecords.
How does he not get on there?
He?
Should be there, for sure Is itrock and roll.

Jay Franze (07:31):
I think Phil Collins qualifies.
Okay, Especially I mean he's inthe band Genesis too.
I would think he would qualify.

Tiffany Mason (07:40):
Okay, fair enough .
I like the addition of Genesis.

Jay Franze (07:45):
If you want to go with rock and roll, you get
Scorpions.
How come the Scorpions aren'tin there?

Tiffany Mason (07:50):
You tell me, I wasn't a Scorpions fan.

Jay Franze (07:53):
You weren't a Scorpions fan.

Tiffany Mason (07:55):
No, okay.

Jay Franze (07:58):
One of my favorites, jay Giles.
Why isn't Jay Giles in there?
It's another Boston band, but Iloved that band growing up.
Did you Giles in there?
It's another Boston band, but Iloved that?

Tiffany Mason (08:06):
band growing up.
Did you see them in person?

Jay Franze (08:10):
I have never directly seen them in person.
There's an artist who playedkeyboards for Jay Giles who
still performs to this day inBoston as a solo artist.
I laugh about it because he hasthe original keyboard from
their video where they weresplashing paint all around and
then putting the hand prints oneverything.
He still plays that samekeyboard when he plays live.

Tiffany Mason (08:32):
I'm surprised it wasn't ruined.

Jay Franze (08:34):
His name is Brian Mays, a great artist.
He was also in the band RTZ,which is another spinoff band.
But great bands, great bands.

Tiffany Mason (08:44):
So out of Boston.
How did you discover them?

Jay Franze (08:49):
Probably by living there, I'm sure.
Yeah, jay Giles' band was a bigband.
They had a few hit songs thateverybody knew.
But RTZ was a semi-big band,not huge.

Tiffany Mason (09:02):
Do you think some of these bands were coming up
when the streaming kind ofscrewed up?
Some people on their way up?

Jay Franze (09:09):
I think these bands were were long before that day,
I'm sure yeah jay guile's beenbig in the 70s and 80s.
Okay, before the streamingstuff yeah tracy chapman is one
of the ones that people seem tothink.
Huey Lewis is another one.

Tiffany Mason (09:26):
Should have made it by now again, though, I feel
like Tracy Chapman.
Is that really rock and roll?

Jay Franze (09:32):
I think of it as folk, rock, folky.
I can see that spin yeah to me,rock, music and all this stuff
is traditional instruments, soanything that has a traditional
instrument has a backbeat to it.
To me is essentially rock androll.
You can even make an argument, for some of these other genres

(09:53):
are built off of rock and roll.
So I can kind of understand it,but I'm more of the
traditionalist.
I like to see some of theseother bands make it.

Tiffany Mason (10:04):
Yeah, yep.

Jay Franze (10:05):
Blue Oyster Colts.

Tiffany Mason (10:07):
I don't know them either, you are fired.
I know.

Jay Franze (10:12):
So soon into the show, you're fired.

Tiffany Mason (10:16):
I need a study guide so I can stop getting
fired.

Jay Franze (10:18):
You know that song I'm burning, I'm burning, I'm
burning for you.

Tiffany Mason (10:21):
Oh, I do know that song.
Why don't you actually sing it?
Because, lord knows, I can'tright, it's not a karaoke show,
sorry, sorry, definitely not.
You don't want me to sing it,especially I don't know if you
hear this beautiful raspiness, but, um, not when I'm a little

(10:41):
under the weather.
You don't want me singing.
Normally I will cameo a littlebit for you guys, but tonight
we're going to miss it All rightBack to the Rock and Roll Hall
of Fame.

Jay Franze (10:52):
Oasis, you ever like Oasis?

Tiffany Mason (10:54):
Yes, very much.

Jay Franze (10:56):
I was never a fan.
I was going to say I don'tthink they belong in the Hall of
Fame.
They had some talent, I guess.
Well, it would be more helpfulif we knew the criteria.

Tiffany Mason (11:06):
It would be helpful, right, mm-hmm.

Jay Franze (11:08):
If you work for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,
please reach out and let us knowwhat the criteria is to be
selected as a nominee for theHall of Fame.

Tiffany Mason (11:16):
Because we are advising the general public.

Jay Franze (11:19):
We would like to know.
We would all like to know.
We would like to get in on thevoting.
How do we vote?

Tiffany Mason (11:26):
Yes, how do we make our vote count and do we
get the sticker?
I voted.

Jay Franze (11:32):
I want a microphone instead of a flag.
I don't think Mariah Careybelongs on this list.
As talented as she is.
I don't think she belongs onthe Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
list.

Tiffany Mason (11:44):
No.

Jay Franze (11:45):
Well, I'll give you one, well, two more, however
many you feel like, jay.
We had Vance Powell on the showthis week and he produced and
works with the band Fish BandFish.
They are on this list.
So they made the list.
They made the cut.

Tiffany Mason (12:04):
Oh, wow so that's good and then sound garden well
, sound garden has a specialplace in my heart because
between my junior and senioryear I flew to japan and um, we
hit a lot of turbulence.
Yes, going into tokyo, theflight attendant told us that we
were flying into a typhoon.
So that was exciting and I wasliterally losing my crap and one

(12:27):
of the underclassmen was likeholding my hand as I was
freaking out and I was listeningto Soundgarden.
And then there's a song that Isang to my son the whole time I
was pregnant with him.
I know I loved you before I metyou and I would just sing it to
him and rub my belly before Imet you and I would just sing it
to him and rub my belly.
And then when the kids come out, I found that all three of them

(12:48):
when I would sing it to them, like you know, when they were
little little, they would calmdown as soon as I would start
singing that song, because theyprobably heard it in utero and
it was calming to them out ofutero.
So I really like sound gardenand I would like to see them
make it in.

Jay Franze (13:05):
So, so I really like Soundgarden and I would like to
see them make it in See now.

Tiffany Mason (13:08):
that would have been a much much better story if
it was Nirvana.
Sorry, well, it was a slow newsweek, but I was shocked, so I
don't know how you guys areusing AI.
I do a little recap for thecountry news.
So I got a little email that, like your recap is ready, so I

(13:29):
click on it and the first thingI see is CMT awards are going to
be canceled and I was like whatOf all the award shows, that's
one I would watch.
So I was like what it's?

Jay Franze (13:42):
disappointing.
It's disappointing becausethat's the one I would work.
So I was like what it'sdisappointing?
It's disappointing becausethat's the one I would work, so
there's a gig out the door,right there.

Tiffany Mason (13:49):
Yeah.

Jay Franze (13:50):
Because it's not supposed to be shut down.
It's supposed to be postponed.
The question is, how long arewe postponing it?

Tiffany Mason (13:56):
Yeah, yeah, and I feel like that's probably some
pretty big money just forNashville overall, with people
who you know, all the businessesand all the hotels and
everything like that like kindof a big deal for them just to
not have it.
And personally, selfishly, Ilike that.
It's one genre, so it's allcountry music.

(14:17):
I'm disappointed about it.

Jay Franze (14:20):
I'd like to know how long we're putting this on hold
for.

Tiffany Mason (14:23):
Yeah, and they're trying to revamp it.
I'm like what are you revamping?
It was fine the way it was.
But you know people like changeand you know never hurts to
take a different, creative eyeat it.
So whatever, trey Calloway'ssong is out.
So if you guys were listening, last week we had a guest host
and it was Trey Calloway and hissong your Love Is Safe With Me,
is out now.

(14:43):
So if you guys want to startplaying it and use it for
Valentine's Day so that we canturn it into the next wedding
song, we want every wedding tostart playing Trey Calloway's
song and then we can say wediscovered him here on the Jay
Franci Show.

Jay Franze (14:58):
There you go.
Did you add it to your playlist?

Tiffany Mason (15:01):
Of course, of course.
Why would I not?
I love sappy songs like that, though.

Jay Franze (15:07):
I'm hoping we have the opportunity to get with them
in person next week.

Tiffany Mason (15:11):
Yeah, that'd be awesome.

Jay Franze (15:13):
It would definitely be pretty cool.
Next week for those who don'tknow is the Country Radio
Seminar, so we're hoping tosecure our spot down there and
get to interview and meet a lotof people that are in the
country industry, including Trey.

Tiffany Mason (15:26):
Yeah, yeah.
Well, speaking of sappy songs,I pulled up a list of country
songs that maybe you want toplay for your sweetheart on
Friday, so George Strait was thefirst one that comes up.
I crossed my heart.
I love that song and I love me.
Some George Strait.

Jay Franze (15:40):
Yeah, george Strait's awesome.
I never had a chance to meethim or work on any of his
projects and I only say that.
I only bring it up because Bobdid.

Tiffany Mason (15:53):
Bob did the last 11 George Straight albums Last
11.
How did?

Jay Franze (15:55):
you not get in on that.
It was before my time.

Tiffany Mason (15:57):
Yeah, yeah.
Well the next one on the listis Amazed by Lone Star, yeah.
I do love that song.
Yeah, keeper of the Stars bytracy bird, that one's not
ringing a bell for me I don'tremember the song, but I worked
on his album watermelon crawlyes, so my husband and I
actually owned a texas roadhouseup in minnesota and you know,

(16:20):
this is like I laugh becausethat's like one of my family's
favorite restaurants.
Oh, seriously, still it is forus too.
We love it.
But you know, our restauranthow it was back in the day is
the servers would come out andthey would line dance.
And I don't know, it seems likethere's a decline of that, or
maybe just at our location, butthat was one of the songs that

(16:40):
we would go out and line danceto.
So it was fun.
You'd always kind of get thislittle.
There's like a little cue thatthey play in the music.
So you know like, okay, let meget this guest another soda and
then it's going to be time toline dance, and so that was one
of our songs was WatermelonCrawl, and my job with Texas
Roadhouse was grassrootsmarketing, so getting out,
shaking hands, kissing babies, you know, doing events and stuff

(17:03):
.
And so what would happen isschools would come in or like
Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts wouldcome in and then I would teach
them those line dances.

Jay Franze (17:13):
We haven't gone out to eat in a long time, just
because, you know, we're so busywith activities and all the fun
stuff we do when you have thismany kids 42 at this point.
So, anyways, we haven't gone ina long time, but we went just
this past weekend.
We decided we're going to goout and treat ourselves to a
steak dinner and we went out tothe Texas Roadhouse and let me

(17:35):
tell you how the prices havechanged.
We went what used to cost us$60.
We're a family of five, so mywife and I and three kids, and
it would cost us about $60.
We're a family of five, so mywife and I and three kids, and
it would cost us about $60.
This cost us $200.
Now that included the tip, butit was $200.

(17:56):
Whoa, one of the kids is a baby, so we're talking mac and
cheese.

Tiffany Mason (18:00):
Yeah.

Jay Franze (18:00):
That's four meals $200.

Tiffany Mason (18:02):
How many adult beverages did you have, jay?
None, not one.
I mean the kids, wow, yeah.

Jay Franze (18:04):
Yeah, yeah.
So that's four meals, $200.
How many adult beverages didyou have, jay?
None, not one.
I mean, the kids didn't feelgood.

Tiffany Mason (18:08):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know, 10 years old and 14.

Jay Franze (18:11):
Yeah, they weren't driving, so they just sucked
them down.
Yeah, no, I mean we were there.
It was a great night andeverything but $200.

Tiffany Mason (18:19):
Yeah, that's expensive, that's expensive.

Jay Franze (18:28):
The other thing I like about Texas Roadhouse was
during COVID.
I was living in California andit was the only restaurant that
opened up for us to go eat atFor a while.
We had to eat outside, and I'mnot talking like a lot of the
restaurants set up an outdoorpatio, no, they had us on the
grass.
It was like eating insomebody's backyard.

Tiffany Mason (18:46):
Well, that's kind of their vibes.
That doesn't really surprise me.

Jay Franze (18:49):
It was awesome.
I love that place.

Tiffany Mason (18:51):
Yeah, okay, well, moving right along, we have
Shania Twain.
You're still the one I like, that one, forever and ever.
Amen.

Jay Franze (18:59):
She's another one that Bob engineered, and I never
got to work on that either.

Tiffany Mason (19:04):
She probably would have been super fun to
work with.
I think I remember every timeshe came on the radio my dad
would say something about howgood looking she was.
I always thought it was kind ofrude to my mom, but you know,
whatever my dad spoke his mindshe's not hard on the eyes, of
course you have to look down tosee her.

Jay Franze (19:21):
Oh, she's short, she's like four foot nothing.

Tiffany Mason (19:24):
Oh, really to see her.
Oh, she's short, she's likefour foot nothing.

Jay Franze (19:27):
Oh, really tiny girl , oh wow, I don't know how tall
she is.
I'm sure our friend here.
Let's see, alexa, how tall isshania twain?

Tiffany Mason (19:35):
shania twain is five feet four inches tall there
you go.
Five feet four inches tall fivefoot four, I'm five five see
I'm short, I felt average okay, fine, you're average yeah, yeah,
she's probably average, butshe's probably super skinny, so
that's what makes her feel evenshorter is that what it is?

(19:58):
yeah, I think so, forever andever.
Amen.
By randy travis this song Ilove.
I put it on the other day and Iwas just like listening to it.
I got so depressed because itreminds me of all my camping
trips as a kid and like just allthe traveling that we did.
We just went to campgrounds.
We didn't like go anywherecrazy or amazing, but yeah, it
was just.
It made me feel incrediblynostalgic and I really missed my

(20:20):
family, so I had to turn it off.

Jay Franze (20:24):
Just hearing Randy Travis these days makes me sad
yeah, yeah, because of his lackof vocal ability.
Now well, I think he had astroke and whatever else
happened to him.

Tiffany Mason (20:35):
But yeah, it's sad sometimes yep, yep, making
memories of us.
By keith urban.
It's your love.
By Tim McGraw.
That was when Tim McGraw andFaith Hale were so hot when that
song came out, performing ittogether on stage.
Oh, I loved it Speechless.
By Dan and Shay and Need youNow by Lady A.

(20:57):
That one Need you Now.
Is that like a?
I'm trying to think if theybroke up and she's saying she's
longing for him Like I'm notsure it's, like I'm so in love
with you.
It is, but like the oneperson's done so, then does it

(21:17):
still count?
Yeah, ish, ish.

Jay Franze (21:22):
I have to go back and listen to it to make a final
call, but for right now it'syeah, yeah, I think they're
broken up and she's.

Tiffany Mason (21:28):
She's just longing for him and he's like
you know, no, we're done.

Jay Franze (21:33):
That reminds me of Sugarland.

Tiffany Mason (21:37):
The song Stay.
Yes, oh God, that's such a goodsong.

Jay Franze (21:41):
Okay, can I interrupt your breaking news for
a quick story?
Go for it.
We mentioned your allergies andwe mentioned the CMA, so it
combines those two things.
I get allergies extremely bad,so I mean very bad the change of
seasons and it's going tohappen this month.
It usually happens in the monthof February and then again at
the end of the summer, but it'susually at the time of the CMA

(22:05):
Awards.
So I end up going to the CMAAwards leaking from every hole
in my face Orifice yes so.
I had the responsibility ofgetting Jennifer Nettles to and
from the award show that night,so she was the star performer of
the night.

(22:25):
So I went to her house, Ipicked her up.
Now we're in a suburban sowe're talking like small.
It's not a limousine, it's notanything big.
We're right next to each other.
We're talking the whole timeand I am forcing myself, as I'm
talking to her, to pinch my noseso I don't sneeze, to try not
to cough.
I'm trying to wipe my eyeswithout, you know, showing any

(22:47):
sign of it.
And the next day I was off herdetail.
She must have complainedbecause she said look, it's
nothing against the driver, Ijust can't, can't afford to get
sick.

Tiffany Mason (23:00):
Yeah, I was like yeah.

Jay Franze (23:01):
I'm not sick, it's allergies, I promise what
everybody says, it's allergies.

Tiffany Mason (23:08):
Yeah Well, the next thing on here is Shibuzy
song bar song, which he gotrecognition for Great song.
Everybody loves it.
It is, let's see here, top 10of the Billboard Country Airplay
Chart for the 32nd week, extending the longest residency
since the chart was firstestablished in 1990.

(23:29):
So he's officially the king ofthe Billboard charts right now.
Wow.

Jay Franze (23:33):
Good for him.
Yeah, I did not for him.

Tiffany Mason (23:35):
Yeah.

Jay Franze (23:36):
I did not know that.
That's pretty impressive.

Tiffany Mason (23:38):
Well, I think that the words like I'm a lyrics
person, right, so the words arefun and I'm game, and then it
makes you feel really good.
So I think we talked about yourdaughter before who likes the
feel of the music the BillieEilish and so it hits both types
of people.
So it's a people pleaser kindof song and everybody's enjoying
it and you know dancing andit's light and it's fun yeah.

(24:01):
And I think everybody needsthat right now.

Jay Franze (24:05):
All right, we approve.
Come on the show.

Tiffany Mason (24:11):
Reba McIntyre left Kelsey Ballerini a sweet
handwritten letter and a giftfor her first day as the coach
on the Voice.
So I just happened to catch theVoice the other night randomly
and Kelsey Ballerini was onthere and I was like, oh awesome
.
Sorry, george, I'm gettinginterrupted by seeing your
comment and I personally love tosneeze.

(24:33):
I love it so much, I lovesneezing.

Jay Franze (24:35):
Yeah For those listening George much.
I love sneezing.
Yeah for those listening.
George says I sneeze everymorning, so don't feel bad,
tiffany, sneezing can be fun.

Tiffany Mason (24:43):
I wish I was one of those people who sneezed like
three times in a row, but I'm aone-time sneezer.
But my husband and my daughtersneeze every time it's sunny out
and that is actually like athing.
So one time I was like you havea disease and you gave it to
Hannah and then I was like, letme look it up.
And I looked it up and I waslike, oh my God, it's really a
thing.
That's a thing Like when yousee the sun you sneeze.

(25:05):
So they have that disease.
So yeah, sometimes sneezing canbe fun.
Okay, so going back to theVoice, I must have caught it
when it first came out the firstround this year, because it
just came out February 3rd, the27th season.
I don't even know what AmericanIdol is on, but I don't
understand how we're already tothe 27th season Right, I mean

(25:29):
forever.

Jay Franze (25:30):
I don't know how they number their seasons.
What do they put like four outin a year?

Tiffany Mason (25:39):
All I know is it's been on for a long time and
people love it and enjoy it andI thought maybe I should commit
this year, you know becauseKelsey Ballerini is on there and
I know I'm a I'm a fan, and sojust to see her interact with
the people that were trying outwas very genuine.
But I think that that's nicebecause Reba was one of the
coaches, so she was surrenderingher seat and welcoming in
Kelsey Ballerini and I thinkthat's nice.

Jay Franze (25:59):
That's awesome.

Tiffany Mason (26:01):
Yeah, it is awesome.
Okay, Lainey Wilson Guys sorryshe's off the market she has
engaged her longtime boyfriend,Devlin Duck Hodges.

Jay Franze (26:13):
Yeah, I had to tell her that there was no chance for
us to get together, so shefinally moved on.

Tiffany Mason (26:17):
Yeah, yeah, it makes sense.
I mean, you got to point themstraight and let them know.

Jay Franze (26:24):
I didn't want to do it.

Tiffany Mason (26:25):
But you know, hey , yeah, you got to be loyal to
your wife.
That's where your vows werefirst, yeah, yeah.
So I guess that the box thather engagement ring was in was a
cowboy hat.
So he popped open the cowboyhat and proposed to her so kind
of cute.
Okay, let's talk about ourquestion of the day.

(26:49):
We posed it to you guys and wewant to hear from the people.

Jay Franze (26:54):
From the people.

Tiffany Mason (26:55):
From the people, from the people, from the people
.
And jay what is the best bandsthat have come out of canada I'm
gonna start with george'scomment.

Jay Franze (27:03):
So george says what do we think about brian adams?
Definitely one of the morefamous canadian artists, so I
would go with him.
Summer of 69, great song, greatalbum, the song Heaven can't
get better than Heaven how hardis it for Canadian artists break
into the American airwaves?

(27:25):
a lot of them move here to do it.
You know, I don't know ifthere's a reason for that, if
they move here because theydon't feel like they can get the
same kind of attention if theydon't.
But there's a lot of theartists that do, and I'm sure
Bryan Adams lived here for aperiod of time.

Tiffany Mason (27:41):
If not still does .

Jay Franze (27:43):
But I like Bryan Adams, I like him a lot and we
mentioned the song Heaven.
We had High Mountain Breezes onhere and they just released
their version of the song Heavenand I believe it topped the
charts over in the UK this week.

Tiffany Mason (27:57):
Oh wow, they're doing amazing things.
Yeah, very cool, very good forthem.
Seems like their music is beingvery well received.

Jay Franze (28:04):
Yeah, so I like that .

Tiffany Mason (28:05):
Maybe they will be on the Hall of Fame.

Jay Franze (28:08):
Christopher says Loverboy.
Loverboy is a great band.
I loved Loverboy.
Did you like Loverboy?

Tiffany Mason (28:16):
You'd have to tell me a song.

Jay Franze (28:18):
Dear God woman, I really like them.
They got Turn Me Loose, lovingEvery Minute of it when it's
Over.
Working for the Weekend wastheir big one.

Tiffany Mason (28:28):
Everybody's working for the weekend there
you go See.

Jay Franze (28:33):
James says Triumph.

Tiffany Mason (28:44):
BJ says Triumph as well, mark says triumph and
lover boy.

Jay Franze (28:45):
Well, now I want to know what is triumphing.
Lay it on the line, follow yourheart.

Tiffany Mason (28:49):
Tears in the rain , magic power, rock and roll
machine maybe lay it on the line, but I can't think of how it
sounds right now.

Jay Franze (28:56):
Lay it on the line for sure.
You would know that one.
Absolutely Okay.
Okay, that's probably the onlyone I would think you would know
.
Now you mentioned bands.
You don't know Killer Dwarfsand the Razor.
I have no idea who KillerDwarfs is, kyler Kyler.
I don't know who killer dwarfsin the razor are.

Tiffany Mason (29:18):
George says yes, he likes lover boy I think I
would have liked it just to saythe name lover boy there's a
drink I like it's called loverboy just because it's lover boy,
so nice, and it's from a showthat I watch, so you know
whatever.

Jay Franze (29:37):
All right, and this is going to be controversial.
I'm a big fan.
Most people say they are not,but somebody has to be because
they're huge, and that isNickelback.

Tiffany Mason (29:49):
I like Nickelback so when I was in high school,
like all those, those were allbecoming popular.
So yeah, I'm a fan.

Jay Franze (29:59):
Yeah, nickelback.
I've always been a big fan ofNickelback.
They have the best strippermusic.
I mean Joe Kaiser, I waslooking up the episode.
Joe Kaiser is on here onepisode 39.
He is the front of houseengineer for Nickelback and I
had a chance to go see them whenthey came through town.
That was pretty cool.
But yeah, nickelback is awesome.

(30:21):
Mike Shipley was their engineer.
He's recently passed away buthe is by far one of the best
engineers I've ever seen.
I mean just an amazing, amazingtalent.

Tiffany Mason (30:31):
What makes a good engineer?

Jay Franze (30:33):
we say it's all in the ears, so a good engineer is
capable of hearing things thatthe average person is not, and
is able to make something soundpleasurable, even if the average
person doesn't understand why,and there's things, I mean
there's all sorts of things.
When you're talking about anengineer like you can hear a

(30:55):
frequency that somebody mightnot be paying attention to.
I know it's funny when I mix asong and I bring the wife in the
studio and she'd be like you'vebeen playing the song over and
over again 400 times.
I'm not hearing any differencesand she tells me she can't hear
it.
But then she'll pull up aphotograph and she'll spend
hours working on it and I don'tsee a difference.

(31:16):
So it's just a matter of whatyou're tuned into.
So if you're tuned intosomething and you're you're
working on it and I laughbecause somebody just mentioned
that the other night we werewhen you're mixing and you're
working on something and you'reso focused on it and you think
it's the.
It's just the be all and endall of that song.
I think it's just the be-alland end-all of that song.

(31:38):
I think it was Vance Powell.
And then all of a sudden, aweek later, people don't even
remember arguing over it orfighting over it.
You just don't even rememberworking on that little piece.

Tiffany Mason (31:47):
Yeah, I think of that when I'm editing podcasts.
Same thing I start to feel badfor my family.
I'm like, oh my God, so if I'vealready balanced out all the
audio or whatever, and now I'mjust working on like
imperfections in speech or amisspeak or whatever, you know,
I'll play it over and over andover to make that transition
smooth.
And my family's like how manymore times are you gonna play

(32:09):
that same spot?
I'm like I don't know.
It could be 50 more times.
I don't know, till I get itright, I don't know that's why I
wear headphones yeah, well, Inormally do.
But, like I said, every once ina while, you know if you've been
doing it all day long, it'sjust nice to take them off and
just have your head be free.

Jay Franze (32:28):
So those are the times those are the times we all
love is when your head is free.
Those are the times we all loveis when your head is free.
Moving on, patrick says skinnypuppy, it is a real band and
they and they are from Canada.

Tiffany Mason (32:46):
They're from Vancouver.
Follow up question is isPatrick from Canada?
Like you found the one bandfrom being in Boston, I wonder
if he found skinny puppy frombeing in Canada.
Like you found the one bandfrom being in Boston, I wonder
if he found Skinny Puppy frombeing in Canada.

Jay Franze (33:00):
Michael also says Triumph.
Another Michael says Triumph, grant says Rush.
Let's talk about Rush for aminute.
Oh.
Rush not only a band from Canada, but they are a trio and they
are definitely a rock band andthey've had some extremely
famous songs or notable songs.
I was never the biggest fan.

(33:22):
I did have a couple of theiralbums that I appreciated and
I'd listened to, but theyweren't like the ones that I
would have to have.
It wouldn't be my Desert Islandalbum by any stretch, but they
are definitely talentedmusicians.
So did you ever enjoy Rush?
Did you ever listen to Rush?

Tiffany Mason (33:43):
My guess is yes, but did I know it, no.

Jay Franze (33:46):
Again.
I know, tom Sawyer, I'm a hugedisappointment tonight.

Tiffany Mason (33:51):
Oh yeah, I do know Tom Sawyer, I like Tom
Sawyer.

Jay Franze (33:52):
Okay, so there you go.
Okay, the band is known forhaving extremely technically
proficient musicians that canplay some extremely odd time
signatures and stuff.

Tiffany Mason (34:05):
Oh, I could see that, especially with that song.

Jay Franze (34:08):
George says, rush is a good band.
Oh.
Mike, I don't know if you'refollowing the rules to the game
here, but Mike listed about 10bands.

Tiffany Mason (34:18):
Okay.

Jay Franze (34:20):
He says Honeymoon Suite.

Tiffany Mason (34:22):
I don't even know them.

Jay Franze (34:23):
They are from Canada .
Niagara Falls there, you go oh.
Ontario All that.
All right.

Tiffany Mason (34:31):
Now we know where to go when we go up north.

Jay Franze (34:34):
They sang the song Feel it Again.

Tiffany Mason (34:37):
Nope, not ringing any bells.

Jay Franze (34:39):
Alright, fine, nope, I'm out.
No honeymoon suite for me.
If you don't know that, you'renot going to know the rest.
That makes me sad.
Stay in the light.

Tiffany Mason (34:48):
Nope, nope.

Jay Franze (34:51):
Alright, no honeymoon suite for you.

Tiffany Mason (34:55):
It's a fail for me.
I'm letting everybody down.

Jay Franze (34:58):
You have failed us tonight.

Tiffany Mason (35:01):
I have.
So I think that we posted thequestion as a band.
But then I took it a stepfurther and looked up like just
artists.
And it does have Rush on there, but it also has alanis
morissette yes celine dion andavril lavigne.

Jay Franze (35:18):
Okay, nickelback so let's, you're going too fast I
got excited let's start withavril lavigne, because earlier,
when we talked about nickelback,I was thinking about avril.
I didn't bring her up I thinkthat girl is underrated, for
sure Her records are good.
Her records are mixed by TomLord Algae.

(35:39):
He's a famous mix engineer andone of the biggest in the world,
but he does such a good job onher records.
I mean, that girl is absolutelyamazing Just definitely does
not get the credit she deserves.

Tiffany Mason (35:55):
I pulled up some song.
You know, you just say like hey, Siri, play whatever.
And then it plays the song youwant from Apple music and so
then it will connect to othersongs.
And her song came on skater boyand I was like jolted back in
time and like singing at the topof my lungs and I love her
music so much.

Jay Franze (36:13):
He was a skater boy.

Tiffany Mason (36:15):
He was, he was boy, he was, he was Yep.
But she said see you later, boy, he wasn't really good enough
for her All right, who else wason your list there?
Nickelback, who we alreadytalked about.

Jay Franze (36:28):
We can't let go of that connection between
Nickelback and Avril Lavigne.
You don't know the connectionthere either.
You are definitely firetight.
They were married.
The lead singer of Nickelbackand Avril Levine.

Tiffany Mason (36:39):
Oh, I did not know that I do not think they
are still married.
Celine Dion.
I knew that she was not fromAmerica, but I did not know she
was from Canada.

Jay Franze (36:50):
Yes, absolutely from Canada.

Tiffany Mason (36:54):
And Hart, who we've talked about before, hold
on Chad Kruger and Avril Lavignemarried.

Jay Franze (37:02):
It's 2013 through 2015.

Tiffany Mason (37:06):
As if it just died, it died.

Jay Franze (37:08):
That's too bad.
I like the two of them together.

Tiffany Mason (37:11):
No, what do I know?

Jay Franze (37:12):
Good short run, I didn't have to live with the
other one of them.
Yeah, yeah, yes, hart, I don'tbelieve was from canada, heart
was from from um washington.

Tiffany Mason (37:23):
Now some of the members may have been from
canada, sure, okay, good, callum nelly frittato yeah, I don't
know enough.
I don't know enough, justin.

Jay Franze (37:36):
Bieber.
Yeah, yeah, he was yeah.

Tiffany Mason (37:38):
Yeah, he's kind of amazing and it was funny that
at the cheer thing this weekendsomebody was talking about how
the you know, I guess, kind ofheartthrobs of our age he was a
little bit younger than us, buthow they've aged and somebody
said Bieber just keeps gettinghotter and hotter and I was like
I got to take a look-see heresometime soon.
And somebody said Bieber justkeeps getting hotter and hotter
and I was like eh, I got to takea look-see here sometime soon.

Jay Franze (38:00):
No, no you really don't, no, no, that would put
you into a whole differentcategory.
I believe Terry Clark was fromCanada.

Tiffany Mason (38:10):
Terry Clark was from Canada.
Yep Barenaked Ladies.

Jay Franze (38:13):
Oh yeah, I like that band.
You know never a favorite, butman, they're fun to listen to Be
a fun band.

Tiffany Mason (38:19):
Yeah, I agree, I interviewed somebody about that
and they had.
They were all in a you knowcollege frat together and I
can't remember what line of thesong it is that they did, but
one of them just shouted thisline super loud.
It is that they did, but one ofthem just shouted this line
super loud.
So that was like the soundtrackof their summer was one week,

(38:39):
because somebody had justshouted it out as loud as they
possibly could and then thatbecame the anthem for that
summer for them.

Jay Franze (38:48):
All right, I said I fired you.
George is telling me we need togive you another chance.
Thank you, george.
All right, I appreciate thebackup.

Tiffany Mason (38:55):
I'm going to give her another chance, you another
chance.
Thank you, george.
All right, I appreciate thebackup.

Jay Franze (38:58):
I'm going to give her another chance, but this
one's on you, George.
All right, let's see if there'sanybody else from Canada that
matters.
Oh, you know, who was probablystill is hopefully Kevin Sharp.
We talked about him the othernight.
I know he was very sick.
Is he still alive?

Tiffany Mason (39:20):
Kevin Sharp.
Do you know?
51 Martha and the Muffins.

Jay Franze (39:24):
I do not know.
Oh, Kevin Sharp passed away.

Tiffany Mason (39:28):
Oh 2014.

Jay Franze (39:33):
I really, really liked Kevin Sharp.
He sang the song Nobody Knows, which was also sung by Babyface,
if I'm not mistaken.

Tiffany Mason (39:46):
I think I know the Babyface one.

Jay Franze (39:49):
But he's from Reading, canada, born in 1970.
Crash Test Dummies, of course,redding.

Tiffany Mason (39:56):
Canada yeah, born in 1970.
Crash Test Dummies.
Oh yeah, of course, the UglyDucklings to go with Skinny
Puppy.

Jay Franze (40:06):
Skinny Ugly Puppies Katie Lang.
Katie Lang was from Canada.

Tiffany Mason (40:10):
Oh dang.

Jay Franze (40:12):
All right, I'll take it.
Cowboy Junkies.
Three Days Grace.
There's a band that I'mfamiliar with.
Three.

Tiffany Mason (40:22):
Days Grace.
How are you familiar with them?

Jay Franze (40:24):
Oh, just their music .
Some of these people we'retalking about, I just don't know
.

Tiffany Mason (40:29):
Yeah.

Jay Franze (40:31):
April Wine.
April Wine was from Canada.
Okay, lighthouse, another 80srock band Sum 41.

Tiffany Mason (40:42):
Lost me.

Jay Franze (40:43):
You don't know Sum 41?
That's your timeframe.
That's 90s, you're definitelyfired.
George, we're going to have tohave a talk buddy.

Tiffany Mason (40:54):
I have a lot of homework to do.

Jay Franze (40:56):
I am not familiar with, but I love the name Finger
Eleven.
Oh, Theory of a Dead man.
I like them a lot.

Tiffany Mason (41:06):
Um well, I mean I think that we would be foolish
to not talk about the Super Bowl.
So I mean I won.

Jay Franze (41:15):
Well, you did, but to be fair, neither one of us
really had a dog in that fight.
It's really Taylor who lost.

Tiffany Mason (41:25):
That is so heartbreaking.

Jay Franze (41:27):
Yeah, there's all sorts of wrong with that right.
I mean, she got booed at theSuper Bowl.
Booed, that's not right, evenif you don't like Taylor, even
if you don't like her politicalstances, which is the reason why
she got booed.
Yeah, she's still, I say, young.
She's still a young girl.
She doesn't deserve that.
Nobody deserves that.

Tiffany Mason (41:48):
No, I agree with that.
Yeah, I do agree with that.
I was warm-hearted to seeeverybody embracing Trump, which
not even from a politicalstance, but just like you know
unity and togetherness.

Jay Franze (42:01):
Yeah.
Unity for sure, yeah yeah, yeah.

Tiffany Mason (42:04):
So I did see, too , a post that said if the
halftime show didn't make senseto you and you're over the
whatever age, it's because itwasn't for you, it was for the
younger generations.
It wasn't my favorite, it wasfor the younger generations.

Jay Franze (42:16):
It wasn't my favorite halftime show ever, but
I mean it's a show.
It is what it is.
Didn't offend me in any way.

Tiffany Mason (42:24):
Yeah, yeah, I was surprised.
He has a nice voice.
I don't know what he was saying, but the things he was saying,
like a Billie Eilish, what hewas lip singing, what he was
lip-syncing, what he waslip-syncing Right, I enjoyed it.

Jay Franze (42:37):
I understand why they lip-sync at the Super Bowl.
I do so.
It's not a dig on anybody.
Everybody does it.

Tiffany Mason (42:46):
But my wife gets mad whenever I point it out.
I just thought it wasinteresting.
I have a friend who cheers forthe Eagles and so I thought,
well, they've kind of seemedlike underdogs in the last two
games and they came out on top.
So you know I would cheer themon.
That'd be fine.
As much as I was like I'm goingto cheer for the underdog, I
was really shocked Like, oh myGod, they're doing it.

(43:07):
Oh my gosh, it's not the KansasCity Chiefs show.
I was like, wait, what ishappening right now?
And it did break my heart thatI saw the next morning and it
was like Patrick Mahomes waslast night doing something he
doesn't do very often and thatwas making mistakes.

Jay Franze (43:23):
And I was like, oh, yeah, he's going to get picked
on quite a bit for a while, butit'll pass next year.
But yeah, I felt bad for fortaylor for getting booed yeah, I
always I feel bad because thethe rumor is always, if they win
, she's going to get proposed tooh, not this time, taylor that

(43:44):
would have been good for my kids, since I I sit there and make
them watch the game with me theone game a year.
They have to sit down and watchthat's the night we went out for
Texas Roadhouse and we cameback and we.
We had like we needed moresnacks or desserts at the house.
Yeah, we ate a lot that night, especially with all those rolls
that Texas Roadhouse gives youand then we each get.

Tiffany Mason (44:04):
Oh yeah, we couldn't each just get a steak.

Jay Franze (44:06):
This is probably why our bill is so high.
I get steak and shrimp, my wifegets steak and ribs.
You know the other kid getssteak and ribs, I mean it was a
big food night for us.

Tiffany Mason (44:24):
Yes, well, speaking of big food in general,
I have recently learned andthis is fun facts to know and
tell that bananas are extremelyhigh in carbohydrates.
I did not realize this.
So I was talking to mynutritionist friend and I'm like
what is the deal with bananashaving so much freaking carbs in
them?
Because I was kind of notreally counting but just trying
to be more vigilant, I suppose, and so I put just a half of
banana and so I Google you knowhow many carbs and half a banana

(44:46):
, and I almost dropped my phonewhen it said 54 carbs or 45, one
of the two.
I was like oh my gosh, holycrap.
But she made such a good pointthat we didn't used to always
have access to all this food allthe time and so, like bananas
would come in season and youcould have bananas for a short
amount of time, so it was okaythat they had, you know, this

(45:07):
extremely high amount ofcarbohydrates.
But it makes me think about toour restaurants and everything.

Jay Franze (45:17):
you know how we just it's always available and it's
good and you know it reheats.

Tiffany Mason (45:19):
So the only binge once in a while, right,
everything in moderation.
I'll never forget a contestthat we had at Texas roadhouse
and it was to take a picture ofa guest biting into their ribs,
because we always would say, fall off the bone ribs.
And it happened probably fourtables in a row.
Or I was like, hey, I know thisis really weird, but could I
take a picture of you?
Would you pick up one of yourbones and go to take a bite?

(45:40):
And they're like, yeah, sure.
So, like I said, like aboutfour times in a row the meat
literally fell off the bone andthey couldn't even get the bite
in first and I was like, oh mygosh, this is hysterical.
So they're literally fall offthe bone ribs and they are so
good.

Jay Franze (45:54):
What did you win?

Tiffany Mason (45:54):
um, that one.
I don't know if this went withit, but I think it was the same.
The same summer that we had toput together like a mixed video
and I used the florida georgialine song oh, you know, is it
Roll With Me and roll?
I feel like that's wrong.

(46:16):
Anyways, they're a big hit.
You need to work tonight, Iknow You'll look it up, anyway.
So we were on a vacation toMount Rushmore and we're at the
monument and my phone startsringing and it's my boss and I
answer the phone and she'slikeiffany, you won.

(46:39):
I'm like, oh my gosh, that's socrazy.
So this is, this is a sad part.
This is how we roll.
The sad part was I was in sucha hurry so my reward was tickets
to any concert I wanted to goto, and I was like I was so
afraid my boss was going toforget about the award that I
was scouring who's on tour.
Who's on tour?
And I had just seen HunterHayes at a local fair or
whatever, maybe six months prior, and now he was kind of a big

(47:01):
name and so I was like, oh, Iwant to go see Hunter Hayes.
And if I had to do all overagain, I would not go see Hunter
Hayes.
He was great, but what a dumbuse of free tickets.
What a dumb use Choose.

Jay Franze (47:13):
Taylor Swift, something that would cost $6,000
.

Tiffany Mason (47:18):
I know.
I know Because I don't think Ihad a budget.
So I won concert tickets but Idid not use them wisely.
That was my prize.

Jay Franze (47:29):
George, this is the woman you're voting to keep
around.
I'm just saying what else is onyour list, my friend?

Tiffany Mason (47:37):
Well, daytona 500 is coming up this weekend.
So I remember many a weekendsmy dad, you know you say you
make the girls watch the SuperBowl with you.
Many a times our father wouldlet us force us to watch the
Daytona 500 or really any of theNASCARs.
He just loved us being therewith him.
We hated every second of it.

(47:58):
I don't understand.
And he just watches it for, like the first, I don't know 20,
50 laps.
He takes a nap and then hewakes up for the last 50.
I'm like what?
He didn't even watch it.
What are you doing?

Jay Franze (48:12):
last 50.
I'm like what?
You didn't even watch it.
What are you?
What are you doing?
I can't watch it on TV.
I can do any event like thatlive, but I can't watch it on TV
.
It just makes no sense to watchcars go around in circles, but
Daytona was always that was theplace to be.
I used to do that every year.
Where I would drive down forspring break, I would drive down
for all of these things where Iwould drive down for spring
break.
I would drive down for all ofthese things, and Daytona was
the beach you could drive on, sothat was always the big thing,

(48:34):
yes, yes.

Tiffany Mason (48:37):
I do love Daytona Beach I do.
It's very close to New Smyrna,so things swimming in the water
and I like to go in the water.
So when we hit the beach everysummer I'm not like sunning
myself I have the patience forit and I get too freaking hot,
so I'm out in the waves.

Jay Franze (48:56):
I saw a video on news today.
It was a news channel inAustralia and it says what in
the Australia is this?
And it showed a great whiteshark come to the shoreline and
grabbed an alligator and broughtit into the water.
I was like yep.

Tiffany Mason (49:11):
Oh, my goodness.

Jay Franze (49:12):
There you go oh wow.
We're talking about DaytonaBeach.
I used to go to spring break, but it was spring break back in
the day when MTV was there.
So I was down in spring breakat Daytona Beach with Pauly
Shore and all the people fromthat time.

Tiffany Mason (49:29):
It was really funny, oh my God, it was a good
time, for sure.

Jay Franze (49:33):
I probably watched you because my sister and I
watched all of the spring breaks, all of them.

Tiffany Mason (49:40):
Yeah, I'm very jealous.
It was a good time.
I wasn't old enough.
This is the one time your ageis working in your benefit.

Jay Franze (49:47):
Is it you know?

Tiffany Mason (49:48):
we're not that far off.

Jay Franze (49:49):
We're only a year and a half apart, is it?
You know, we're not that faroff.

Tiffany Mason (49:51):
We're only a year and a half apart, a year and a
half.

Jay Franze (49:54):
I'm sorry, was it a decade and a half?
I don't know, I don't remember.

Tiffany Mason (49:57):
George, look at our faces.
Do you think it's a year and ahalf?

Jay Franze (50:00):
Yes, george, look at no filter here, george.

Tiffany Mason (50:03):
No filter, no filter.
I only have the smooth filteron Zoom and we're not on Zoom.
So this is the real deal righthere.
Okay, so we're talking aboutprizes, winning contests.
The other thing was thisweekend I have a little color on
my face and probably where Ipicked up this awesome voice

(50:23):
altering sickness was in Orlando.
So we drove down there cheercompetition.
Three days Really it's likefive days, but my daughter's
portion was three days and itactually got very hot this
weekend in Florida, which we'vekind of been in a cold snap, so
we got hot.

(50:44):
We were in the 80s, it wasplenty hot.
I was using sunscreen.
I'm Irish, so you know I burneasy.
Is that what it is?
You're Irish?
Yeah, I have the luck of theIrish in me the Irish, my family
.

Jay Franze (50:59):
we got Irish a tad in there.
We're Italian, don't get mewrong.
We're the opposite of you InBoston, you get Italians and you
get Irish, and they don'talways mix.

Tiffany Mason (51:11):
But I have Irish in my family for sure.
Oh, very good, well, we, okay.
So I did ancestry, I don't knowfour or five years ago and it
was a gift to me, and so I didit.
And then I got the results backand I was like, how interesting
, never thought anything of itagain.
And then my mom and my sisterwere hanging out and they were

(51:31):
three sheets to the wind andthey call me one friday night
about a year or two ago, andthey're getting crazy and
they're like, did you know?
We're irish.
Like what are you talking about?
It's my sister.
She's going crazy because we'reirish and mom didn't tell us
and all this stuff Sorry, just asecond.
And mom was like, yeah, we'reIrish, and she always told us

(51:57):
that we were Indian, okay, siouxIndian.
So we always thought we wereSioux Indian.
So then I'm like, you know, letme pull up my ancestry or my
23andMe, whatever it was.
So let me pull it up.
So I pull it up.
I'm like, oh, yeah, we're athird Irish.
And then my mom was like, yeah,we're Irish.
And then just start acting likeJenny and I were supposed to

(52:17):
know.
So then we made this wholeobnoxious thing Because it was
pretty close to St Patrick's Day, quite honestly, when, when we
were having this conversationand I guess Aaron Gobera is a
very common Irish saying I don'tknow if it's all, I don't know
if it means good luck, I can'tremember what it means Anyway.
So I kept texting my mom, aaron,go bra.
And then she would saysomething I'm like well, yeah,

(52:39):
because we're Irish.
So it was this whole joke forquite a while, probably a solid
six months.
Every time our mom would saysomething to us we're like oh,
you mean because we're Irish, like you didn't tell us and just
gave her a hard time, likeforever.
So you know, like schoolprojects, they'd say like what's
your genealogy tree?
And we'd always be like we'reSioux Indian.

(53:00):
And no, we're not.
We're.
I don't know if we are, butwe're definitely Irish, a lot
Irish all right, I can't imagineyou giving anybody a hard time,
but my mom always.

Jay Franze (53:08):
I'm aware always yes , I want to hear how your kid
did.

Tiffany Mason (53:12):
So there was chillers everywhere.
It was amazing.
All the sparkle, glitter, makeup, curls, high ponytails,
big bows, all the things.
It was amazing.
Her elementary school or heracademy school has never made it
to nationals.
So they made it to nationalsand then we all kind of thought,
okay, maybe they'll get throughsemifinals.
Well, they get throughsemifinals and we're like we

(53:34):
can't even believe it.
So then they perform and theygive the best performance
they've given all season.
They make it to finals andwe're like no freaking way, we
have, I think, like nineelementary schools in our County
, so I think five of them werethere and we'd be all of them
but one.
We came in seventh in the nation, like seventh in the nation in

(53:57):
texas, up in your neck of thewoods, kentucky.
They seem to have a ton ofcheer in ohio, yeah yeah.
So it was really awesome.
It was good to see the girlspush themselves.
It was kind of funny becausewhen they got seventh, they were
very discouraged by that and weall had to be like hello.
First of all, the school hasnever made it to the nationals.

(54:20):
Second of all, you made it tofinals.
You made it through rounds one,two and you got to perform in
round three.
So it was really good and itwas super awesome to see them
succeed and all their hard workpay off, because a lot of time
that they've put into it doinglike private lessons and stuff,
a lot of money invested on theparents' side Ooh no doubt my

(54:44):
daughter.

Jay Franze (54:44):
Their team did it all the way through junior high
school.
They won regionals but did notwin nationals.
But neither one of my daughtersare in it this year.
They're 100% committed to dancethis year.
But their teams here locallyall went and a couple of them
came back successful and mydaughter's what they call home

(55:05):
high school did not come backsuccessful.
But that's okay.

Tiffany Mason (55:09):
She's not part of it, but I think she did pretty
amazing right my 10 year oldlucy.

Jay Franze (55:14):
She did a dance competition this weekend and
okay it was a big deal.
It was a big competition forher.
It was her first timeperforming a solo in a
competition and she got firstplace how freaking cool is that?

Tiffany Mason (55:29):
do they do action shots for you guys?
They?
Do Like where they catch themmidair.

Jay Franze (55:33):
Yeah.

Tiffany Mason (55:33):
And charge like $500 for them.
Yes, charge massive amounts ofmoney.

Jay Franze (55:37):
The one shot of my daughter which I thought was
really cool was it was hermid-step and it was a
wide-legged step and she lookedat the judges and winked oh cute
, I mean, the girl has got allthe sass in the world for a 10
year old, for sure, but yes itwas her first time she came in

(55:59):
first in her category and secondoverall, and then her teams the
dance troupe that she's withthe school came in first in
every single one they enteredand came in first overall in
every one they entered, and thenthey won
special awards and they even gotpassed through past the

(56:23):
regionals and nationals and gotaccepted right into the world
competition.
So they did amazing, amazing.
I mean, it's a group of girls.
They span from young girls allthe way up to seniors in high
school.
That's the oldest you can be.
So my daughter, Bella, is afreshman in high school, so

(56:43):
she's one of the older ones inmy 10-year-old.
So it was a very, very goodcompetition.
It was a great time and Lucydid a great job.
I was very, very proud of.
It was a great time and Lucydid a great job.
I was very proud of her andvery proud of Bella for going
there and supporting everybodyand helping them and do
everything she does.
She also teaches at the school,so that was very nice.

Tiffany Mason (57:04):
Oh, okay, cool, and it wasn't far from the house
.

Jay Franze (57:07):
It was a few days long like yours, a little less
than yours, but it was in ohio.

Tiffany Mason (57:12):
It was only an hour or so away, so well, I'll
tell you the the b of the wholething is the drive home.
Right, so it's two and a halfhours.
It's actually mostly east, which you wouldn't think that
it's actually mostly east.
You go north, of course, butit's really east and I don't
understand the driving.

(57:34):
Okay, first of all, orlandotraffic is terrible.
It's insane.
They put road after road in andit never improves.
Okay, my son lives down there.
I sent him this meme that saysorlando is an hour from orlando
that makes sense, yeah and toprove the point, I thought, okay
, while we're down there, I'dlove to see him.
You know how can we get togetheror whatever.

(57:55):
So we get down there and wehave a small ish window, like
about two and a half, almostthree hours, and I said, okay,
we'd like to grab dinner withyou.
So I pull it up.
It's going to take me 45minutes to get to him.
So I was like, okay, nevermind,I thought we'd be closer but
nevermind.
So that was fine.

(58:19):
So you know, last weekend notthe weekend we just had, but the
weekend before that they had acompetition in Orlando that we
had gone down for.
And what I just don'tunderstand is why do people have
such a hard time with mepassing like, if I'm going
faster, let me just go faster?
Am I hurting your ego?
That's what I want to know.
Are you too lazy to get overbecause I'm going faster?

(58:39):
Or does it hurt your preciousego that I'm going faster and I
need around you?
I just get?

Jay Franze (58:46):
so I just want to point out my my wife just
tonight, but on a regular basissays I drive too slow.

Tiffany Mason (58:54):
Oh yes, my husband does too.

Jay Franze (58:56):
But do you stay in fast lane?
No, I don't.

Tiffany Mason (59:00):
And then refuse to get over when someone comes
up on you.

Jay Franze (59:02):
No, I spend most of my time in the slow lane these
days.
It used to be the opposite.
I used to be in the fast laneall the time and driving like a
rocket, not in the fast lane.
Not anymore.

Tiffany Mason (59:12):
No, I always like to go five over.
That's my rule.
I like to go five over and downby Orlando I go 10 over, okay,
because that's just almost flowof traffic, quite honestly.
So you know someone will be inthe lane and they'll be going 65
in the speeding lane and I justdude like you've got this whole
line behind you.

Jay Franze (59:33):
Why will you not get over?
You just called it the speedinglane.
It's the passing lane.
It's not a speeding lane.

Tiffany Mason (59:41):
No, it's the speeding lane, Jay.
You've never seen it written onthe lane.

Jay Franze (59:46):
I think this is no.
It's not written on the lane.
See, I think this is where yourissues are coming in here.
This is the difference.

Tiffany Mason (59:56):
Yes.

Jay Franze (59:58):
It's perception.

Tiffany Mason (01:00:00):
Yes, yes.
Well, when we lived in upstateNew York, they were, you know,
on your tail.
I mean, you had to go to thelimit or under Go.
Firebirds Albany River.
Oh yes, tail I mean you had togo to the limit or under go
firebirds.
So oh, albany river.
So I, oh yes, I remember whenwe first heard that we were like
what, that's their, that'stheir mascot, yeah.

(01:00:21):
So yeah, I mean we went thespeed limit down there, but down
here, I mean, if you've drivenin florida, people do not go the
speed limit no god, no, by alot, even the police officers.
It's a joke.
It's a joke, but it drives mecrazy and I finally just have to
tell myself, like tiffany, justrelax, like it's not gonna,

(01:00:41):
nothing's gonna change.
You're not really actuallygetting home any faster, so just
relax, and then I can usuallyenjoy the ride.

Jay Franze (01:00:46):
I tell my wife I'm like, why are you in such a rush
?
Yeah just chill out, calm down, have some fun, turn on a show
or music and turn on the jayfranzy show yeah, turn on the
jay franzy, right, right I likeyour attitude, I did listen to
it on the way down and I feltvery relaxed.

Tiffany Mason (01:01:03):
So maybe I should have, you know, pulled up an
old episode.

Jay Franze (01:01:06):
Nice, you know then you'd be asleep like george,
george is asleep right now.

Tiffany Mason (01:01:12):
George wake up, so it was a good weekend.
It was a good weekend.
Came home and woke up yesterdaywith this crud.

Jay Franze (01:01:21):
With the crud.
You always get the crudwhenever you go out of town Not
just you, I mean anybody andyour meds look like they're
wearing off.

Tiffany Mason (01:01:30):
Yes, yes, well, it's getting late, it is getting
late, it is yeah.

Jay Franze (01:01:35):
All right, fine, I'll start wrapping it up here.

Tiffany Mason (01:01:38):
Jay, I don't wake up this.
You know I don't wake up thisbeautiful.
I have to get a lot of sleep toenhance the beauty.

Jay Franze (01:01:43):
What are you talking ?

Tiffany Mason (01:01:44):
about.

Jay Franze (01:01:46):
Don't say that George says not yet yeah, last
night.

Tiffany Mason (01:01:50):
George is in Arizona.

Jay Franze (01:01:52):
He's behind us.

Tiffany Mason (01:01:54):
Oh, so it's so much earlier for you, george.
I'm so jealous, but we keep itconsistent for you so you can
tune in, have a good time withus.
We do it for you, george andKenny.

Jay Franze (01:02:07):
Oh, that's funny.
All right, let's do this.
We have reached the.
Well, here we go again.
I just want to say top of thehour.
We've reached the top of thehour, but we have actually
reached the bottom of the hour, which does mean we have reached
the end of the show.
If you have enjoyed the show, please tell a friend.
If you have not, as we say, tell two, three, four, tell as

(01:02:32):
many as you can.
You can also reach out to bothof us over at jfrenzycom, where
we would gladly keep theconversation going.
Miss tiffany, my friend, whatdo you got going on this week?

Tiffany Mason (01:02:43):
valentine's day.
I gotta spoil the hubby somehow, way, shape or form.
I got these really cool.
Um, they're heart-shaped, Idon't know.
You plant it and then it turnsinto a plant, turns into flowers
or whatever.
So I got that for the boys.
I'm going to mail it out tothem for their little valentines
.
And then Sunday Hannah actuallyleaves for DC, so I'm not going

(01:03:03):
anywhere per se, but she isgoing to DC with her whole 8th
grade class.
Well, a hundred of them withher whole eighth grade class.

Jay Franze (01:03:10):
Well, a hundred of them.
That's not bad.
That means it's going to bechaperoned.
It's not as bad as oh, yeah, ohyeah, I have nothing to say.
I sent my kid to Las Vegas, sooh yeah, that's right.
So that's all right.
It is what it is.

Tiffany Mason (01:03:27):
She'll have fun.
They've got action-packed days.
I don't even know how thesekids are going to keep up, quite
honestly.
I mean, there's a lotjam-packed into these days, so
good luck to her to survivingthem.
Honestly.

Jay Franze (01:03:38):
Nice.

Tiffany Mason (01:03:39):
What are you doing, Jay?

Jay Franze (01:03:41):
Well, let's see.
This week we should have VancePowell's episode should be
coming out in the next coupledays.
That was a good one, Definitelyone if you're into the
technical side of the musicindustry.
That was pretty cool to hearabout his studio and what goes
into his studio and some of thestories like how he got fired
from working with MartinaMcBride but still somehow built

(01:04:04):
her husband's recording complexit was a good story and good
things to hear about how some ofthe things behind the scenes in
Nashville works.
It was pretty fun.
And then this week I got totalk to Blake Tyler.
That'll be a good one.
Blake is going to be inNashville next week working with
Matt McClure, who is one of theproducers that I used to work

(01:04:25):
with.

Tiffany Mason (01:04:26):
Yes.

Jay Franze (01:04:26):
That's what's coming up this week and next week, so
it should be fun.

Tiffany Mason (01:04:30):
I agree.

Jay Franze (01:04:30):
All right, folks On that note have a good night.
