Ever been on a flight and experienced the hassle of cramped bathrooms? You're not alone! In our latest podcast episode, I, Jose Roldan Jr., explore a groundbreaking change in airplane accessibility rules that could turn the tables for people with disabilities - a new requirement for bathrooms on single-aisle planes to accommodate two people. I share how this could revolutionize air travel, get personal about my own experiences, and even throw in a mystery term from a recent movie for good measure.

How often do we underestimate the power of a simple act of kindness? The second half of our episode shifts to the subtler, but equally important, topic of everyday kindness. I recount a touching incident involving a stranger's unexpected act of kindness to a hardworking landscaper on a scorching day. Tune in as we explore how these small gestures, regardless of political views or affiliations, can resonate deeply and remind us of our shared humanity, especially in these challenging times. Tune in, get inspired, and let's spread some kindness together!

Speaker 1 (00:11):
This is the Jose Show , and welcome to another
exciting episode of the JoseShow.
I am your host, jose Roldan Jr.
Hey folks, how's it going today?
I'm doing pretty good.
It's Sunday afternoon and I livehere in Florida and let me tell

(00:33):
you the oh, my goodness, it isso hot, like when you walk
outside.
The heat mugs you.
Yeah, it's like it mugs you, isn't that crazy?
Anyway, I don't know whereeverybody is at that's listening
to this podcast episode, butmake sure you stay hydrated.
If you feel like you're goingto faint, get inside.

(00:54):
Take care of yourself, becausethis heat is no joke.
If you have dogs that areoutside, please bring them in,
or any type of animal that maybe outside.
Either get some kind of fan forthem, heck, even your chickens.
I mean, I'm pretty sure it'shot for your chickens outside.
You know you got to keep themcool.

(01:15):
Keep them with plenty of freshwater, drink plenty of water
yourself, but don't drink toomuch to where you're sick.
Definitely, we don't wantnobody to get sick, so okay.
So we got a few things we'regoing to do today and I'm just
going to kind of do them insegments a little bit.
I don't know.
It seems to be easier to dowhat I want to do in this

(01:36):
episode in segments.
So segment one I'm going to bereading from a news article.
It's from ABC News.
It says room for two.
Feds want small planes bathroomsto be big enough for two people
.
All right, so I don't know ifyou've been on a plane lately,
but man, let me tell you, thesebathrooms are like super tiny,

(02:00):
especially if it's one of thoseplanes that have like five seats
, or like four seats, I think, two on one side, two on the
other, or maybe two on one sideand three on the other, and
literally there is no room, hardly in the bathroom.
Especially if you're a biggerperson, and definitely if you're
on the plane, you don't want tosit in the very back seat

(02:21):
because, man, if somebody hasmajor, a major mess, you're
going to smell it for theremainder of the flight.
So let me just read this.
It says the Department ofTransportation on Wednesday
announced a rule that willrequire airlines to make
laboratories on new single aisleplanes large enough for two

(02:43):
people to enter, in a move tomake bathrooms more accessible.
Traveling can be stressfulenough without worrying about
being able to access a restroom.
Hold on a second, I just lostthat one.
It just changed on me.
Traveling can be stressfulenough without worrying about
being able to access a restroom, yet today, millions of
wheelchair users are forced tochoose between dehydrating

(03:05):
themselves before boarding aplane or avoiding air travel
altogether, said TransportationSecretary Pete Buttigieg and a
press release announcing therule.
The rule was authorized throughthe Air Carrier Access Act and
it specifies that thelaboratories will need to be
large enough passengers withdisabilities and their
attendance to enter and maneuverwithin the space.

(03:27):
In twin aisle aircraft, accessible laboratories have
been required since 1990, yet asthe range and fuel efficiency
of single aisle aircraft haveincreased, these planes now take
longer flights that can leavepassengers with disabilities
with no way to ease the bathroomfor hours on end.
John Morris, the founder ofwheelchair travelorg, is a

(03:48):
triple amputee who travelsfrequently.
Next week he's flying fromBoston to Los Angeles on a plane
without any accessiblelaboratory.
Denying someone the ability togo to the bathroom is certainly
a form of torture that has beenused by rogue individuals in
human history.
Morris said I just don't thinkthat that should be the case on
an airplane.
So anyway, I don't need to readanymore.

(04:10):
This is, like I said, an ABCNews article.
I'm sure if you just look upRoom for Two ABC News, you
should see this article.
Anyway, you know, I've neverthought about that, especially
somebody that is in a wheelchairnot being able to use these
bathrooms.
That that literally nevercrossed my mind.

(04:31):
But they should be able to.
And I do agree, I don't eventhink you can even get a
wheelchair down some of theseaisles of an airplane, but
that's crazy.
Yeah, not being able to use therestroom, especially if you're
flying, can be a torture.
Trust me, I've been there manytimes, not just in airplanes,
but, you know, even in my owntravels, when I'm driving with

(04:54):
somebody.
Man, when you got to go, yougot to go because if not, you're
gonna go, if you know what Imean.
I mean it's, it's, it's likeone of those things dude, get me
to the bathroom or something isgonna happen.
Exactly, thank you, soundboardfor that.
But, um, yeah, so apparently, from what I read, it's gonna.
It could take up to a couple ofyears because these are

(05:15):
Apparently on new airplanes thatare being built.
You know, you got lucky Martin, boeing, airbus and, I guess, a
few other manufacturers aroundthe world that actually makes
planes.
And, yeah, let's make itaccessible for everybody,
because it's these things arejust so tiny.
I mean, especially if you'vebeen in the bathroom on the

(05:37):
airplane man, there is so muchturbulence, like you're like
just running around and shakingand breaking, and he could
almost get injured from being ina bathroom.
So definitely when I go, I, ifI fly, I try not to drink too
much liquid Just because of thatreason, and I'm not in a
wheelchair.
I just don't want to have toget up and try to use the

(05:58):
bathroom.
So I'm glad that they'reactually finally doing something
about this.
You know, we live in a worldwhere everybody is different and
we need to kind of accommodatethose that would love to travel
but can't because of somethinglike this.
So kudos to the powers that befor doing this.
All right.
So in our next segment we'regonna be talking about a term

(06:24):
that I heard in a movie and Ican't remember the name of the
movie, but Basically it's randomacts of kindness.
So my definition of random actsof kindness is we just go out
of our way to do something forsomebody and it projects that

(06:45):
the person that's doing this forsomebody is nice, has a heart,
they're caring and they'rewilling to help.
That's my definition of arandom act of kindness.
I don't know what yours is, butit's probably similar to mine.
So actually I have two Randomacts of kindness that actually

(07:06):
happened this week or thisweekend.
So I was driving to mydaughter's house because I had
to cut her grass and she livesin this housing development.
Now, it's not like one of thesefancy to do housing
developments, it's just a youknow housing development that
was built probably 40 years agomaybe, and so I decided, you

(07:29):
know, as I'm heading over there,I seen my friend Mike, and he's
also a land, not a land, he's agroundskeeper maintenance.
He does kind of can't rememberthe term.
Anyway, he cuts grass, pools, weeds, landscaper.
Yeah, he's a landscaper, that'sthe term.
I keep forgetting that term andI was talking to him for a while
and it was really hot and youknow, cutting grass, especially

(07:51):
in the heat, man, it is murderto your system.
You got to drink plenty offluids Gatorade, powerade, water
.
I suggest drinking water firstand maybe, if you want Gatorade
or Powerade, maybe you can throwthat into the mix.
And as we're talking, the ladyon the other side of the street

(08:11):
brings him a bottle of water.
Now, the crazy thing is hewasn't cutting her grass, he was
cutting her neighbors acrossthe street.
So to me that's a random act ofkindness.
So she was talking to him andthat's when I decided I would go
ahead and go and and I'm prettysure she was talking to him
while he was drinking the bottleof water, so that way he cools

(08:32):
down because, trust me, man, inthis heat you do not want to
pass out.
Man, if you got your kidsbabies, please bring them in.
Or if you're gonna be out inthe heat, have some kind of
portable fan on them that'sbattery operated, or cover them
up.
Just don't take this heat forgranted.
It will kill you if you're notcareful.

(08:53):
So I thought that random act ofkindness where the lady brings a
bottle and gives it to thelandscaper to drink was just
pure random, and I like stufflike that because it just shows
you there's still good people inthe world, regardless of their
political view.
You know we live in this worldnow that, oh, you're a Trump or

(09:14):
you're a Biden person and wehate you for that.
Oh my goodness, people justneed to grow the freak up and
love people for who they are,not for who they like.
I mean, if you like Biden, that's your business, if you
like Trump, that's your business.
Hating each other because of itis just pure stupid.

(09:34):
You know, and to me and this ismy opinion the government was
the one that started all thishate toward everybody, and we
have to overcome that.
We don't need to hate, I don'tknow.
If you go to church, the Lordwants you to love your neighbor,
even your enemy.
Now that doesn't mean that youhave to hang out and be

(09:56):
chummy-chummy with your enemy.
That's entirely up to you.
But we're supposed to love ourneighbor.
We're supposed to be kind, friendly, gentle and just do
random acts of kindness ifpossible.
Trust me, god blesses thosethat are Christian and
non-Christian.

(10:16):
Yes, god blesses all of us insome way, shape or form.
I mean, we may not have anyproblems with our vehicles.
Somehow our gas lasts a littlebit longer than it normally has,
or our paycheck.
Somehow we got a little extratime at work, so we got a little
bit more money on our paycheck.

(10:38):
You're not getting sick as much.
So God blesses us in differentways.
Now, whether you believe if Godblesses you or not, that's
totally up to you.
That's just some of myexperiences myself.
Now there is another random actof kindness that happened this
week or this weekend, excuse me.

(10:58):
So the lady that lives nextdoor to my daughter, she rents
and she had like a pile ofbranches next to her air
conditioner and so I'm like, hey, is your landlord gonna like
move those branches?
Because it's like harboring, like snakes and rats and mice

(11:20):
and all that stuff, because whenit's built up like that,
especially when the grass ishigh, it will attract things
like that.
And I have a granddaughter andshe has three kids and you know
I don't want to see neither oneof them get bit, or my daughter
or her for that fact.
So she's like no, my landlordbasically said I have to do it
and I'm going.

(11:40):
You know, that's just so crazy.
This lady is a single mom ofthree and the kids are very
young.
And she said she was just gonnarent like a truck from Lowe's
and then just dispose of itherself.
So I got to thinking you knowwhat, I'm tired of looking at it
because it's been there forprobably about six months and

(12:00):
the grass is kind of overgrown.
So I called my friend and hedoes like yard debris removal
and he ended up coming pickingit up and then, as he was
picking it up, I kind of cut thegrass around it so that way he
didn't have to walk in the tallgrass.
And then, when he finally gotit up, I cut it, weeded it or

(12:20):
trimmed it, whatever you want tocall and then he came back
behind me and picked up anyloose branches that he couldn't
see while he was picking it upthe first time.
And then the lady that lives inthe other side of the duplex
Asked him how much it was to cutthe grass, and she paid to have
the entire front yard and Bothsides left side and right side

(12:42):
cut.
So that way, when that ladycame home, she had no branches,
she had a nice, well manicuredlawn, and that's another random
act of kindness that I was ableto provide to help this lady.
You know, and I'm not expectingany type of payment, if she
wanted to, that's fine.
You know, a thanks is goodenough for me.

(13:03):
I showed her the picture.
She was tickled pink and, youknow, sometimes if we do stuff
we actually feel good about it.
It's just amazing that Peopledo stuff like this.
People do random acts ofkindness.
I used to have a formerpreacher's wife that the church
I used to attend and she saidBack in the day, when she would

(13:27):
go through the drive-thru atMcDonald's, she would also do a
random act of kindness and whatshe would do is she would
literally pay for the personbehind her, pay for their meal.
No, if it was $5, $10, $20,whatever, she would actually pay
for that.
That's a random act of kindnessand that's pretty neat.

(13:49):
So I I told her, I said, well, let me, let me know when you're
gonna do it again so I can bebehind you.
And she laughed, you know, sothat way she could pay for my
meal.
And so, oh, she was like, okay, okay, sure, I Know, it's just
kind of funny.
I don't think she thought itwas funny, but anyway.
So, whether you're out and about, or you have a neighbor, or you

(14:11):
see somebody that is justDesperately in need, perform a
random act of kindness and helpthem out, because, trust me, you
don't know what kind of daythey're having.
They could be really bad andthey just need someone to help
them and that's really the bestthing that you can do.

(14:32):
We're gonna go ahead and take acommercial break.
You're listening to the Joseshow.

I am your host, jose Roldan Jr.
All right, folks.
So basically we were talkingabout random acts of kindness.
Do you think you can dosomething like that this week,
try, okay, folks.

(15:13):
So, like we were talking aboutin the very beginning of the
podcast, the heat is sweltering.
So if you're taking your dogaround and about your city,
please don't leave them in thecar unattended and forget about
it.
Definitely, if you have a child, do not leave them in the car
unattended, with the car shutoff, because chances are they

(15:36):
will pass away and you don'twant that because then you will
be arrested.
So, before you do anything, think, think, think.
Don't leave a dog or your childin the car unattended.
Now, if you have somebody inthe car, obviously you can leave
the car running and that's noproblem because there is an
adult old enough to take care ofthe dog or the baby or the

(16:00):
young child.
So let's stay out of the heatIf you go to the beach where
lots of suntan lotion and justbe careful out there, folks.
Man, it's just a really meanand terrible summer this year.
I just I can't imagine.
I don't even remember if it wasthis bad last year, but I know
I hate being out in the heatbecause it's just stupid crazy.

(16:24):
Alright, folks, I reallyappreciate everybody listening,
everybody supporting the Joseshow and you know school is
going to be starting soon, somake sure you get the kiddies
all their stuff that they need, their supplies for school and

(16:47):
because remember, man, we'reonly here on this earth for one
day, not one day, excuse me,we're only here on this earth
for one life.
That's what I meant to say.
And enjoy it.
Take the time and just enjoyyourself, enjoy your company
because, trust me, when it'sgone, it's gone.
And my friend, jack Vale, wantsto say one word.

(17:11):
