Chris Grainger (00:03):
Welcome to the
Lion Within Us, a podcast
serving Christian men who arehungry to be the leaders God
intends you to be.
I'm your host, chris Granger.
Let's jump in.
All right, guys, it is your funFriday episode, let's get right
into it.
Hey, you made it throughanother week, hallelujah, right.
So our scripture of the weekthis week is in Luke, chapter 10
, verse 41 to 42.
It says Martha, martha, theLord answered you are worried
(00:23):
and upset about many things, buta few things are needed, or
indeed only one.
Mary has chosen what is betterand it will not be taken from
her.
Guys, we had a really good timeunpacking that, the whole idea
of margin this week.
I love that story of Luke.
Also, on our meat episode, wetalked a lot about a couple of
different proverbs and somepractical ways to increase
(00:44):
margin in your life, but thewhole idea fellas this week is
why margin is so important andscripture is just a beautiful
guide for us as well to learnhow to simplify and apply it to
our life.
So that spiritual kickoffepisode I highly encourage you
to go check that out, listen toit, particularly if you're like
super busy and you always feelstressed out and you never know
what to do next and it's likehow am I going to ever just slow
(01:06):
down?
Go take some time, even whileyou're doing stuff maybe cutting
grass or something Just throwit on, listen to it and then see
what the Lord is going toreveal to you.
You know, there's nothing earthshattering here, but just
spending time in God's word, just letting it sit and just
soak in and then reflection uponit.
There's power in that, allright, so hopefully you guys
(01:27):
enjoyed this week Again, everything we talk about on
these solo weeks typically we doa solo week we're talking about
insights from the Bible studyplans that we write, that are on
the YouVersion Bible app.
So I highly encourage you to gocheck that stuff out on
YouVersion.
It's a great way to getconnected with us.
Okay, check that stuff out.
On the new version it's a greatway to get connected with us,
okay, and so it's fun.
The line withinus you can findall the different under free
(01:48):
tools.
You'll find the Bible studiesand they're all right there.
And again, the line withinus ishow you connect with us for all
our free tools, as well as ourcommunity and different things
that we're building.
So highly encourage you tocheck that out.
All right now.
Let Now, let's get into our funFriday.
So our fun Friday we do a health, wealth and a self-tip.
Health is how do we buildstronger minds and bodies.
Wealth tip is how do we be themost effective and efficient
(02:10):
stewards of our finances and ourcareers.
And self-tip is we're alltrying to grow, particularly
being better husbands andfathers.
So what can we do there?
What's some practical ways todo that?
These tips are again.
They're simple, they're easy tofollow, but they're also
(02:32):
hopefully, hopefully goodreminders for us as we're trying
to be disciples of Christ.
All right, the health tip is Iwant you to think about the fuel
, the fuel that we have, that weput in our body and we need to
use it wisely, because it's easyto overlook the role of
nutrition.
It's so easy, okay, but thetruth is, what you put into your
body directly impacts yourenergy, your focus and your
(02:55):
resilience If you fuel it wiselyand choose foods that nourish
rather than drain you.
Such a better decision makingNow maybe it starts with
starting to plan out your meals.
Or you're prioritizing thewhole foods, the nutrient dense
options like proteins andvegetables and whole grains, and
(03:15):
all the healthy fats, andyou're kind of avoiding the
over-reliance on the processedjunk.
Let's just face it it's alljunk, right, and the processed
stuff gives you a quick boost, but it's going to lead to those
crashes.
So maybe you need to startlooking at some meal prep or
planning those meals in advance, but they will help you when you
(03:36):
have that busy life I know youall guys are busy.
You got to have those healthyoptions and healthy hydration.
You guys know I'm so big onthis.
It's such a big deal.
A good rule of thumb is you canalways aim for at least half
your body weight in ounces ofwater.
So if you weigh 200 pounds, drink 100 ounces of water, right
.
It's very simple to rememberBecause when you consistently
(03:57):
nourish your body with the goodwholesome fuel, you're better
equipped to handle demands ofleadership with clarity and with
stamina.
I'm telling you you create thismargin and you're likely to.
I know you guys are working onit, so we've been talking about
it all week.
Got to have a healthy body totake care of, all right.
Now?
Well, tip this is more of acareer tip for you guys Simplify
(04:24):
and delegate, because asleaders, it's easy to fall into
the trap of thinking you have todo everything Right.
But trying to shoulder everyresponsibility is going to burn
your butt out and it's alsoinefficient.
So simplifying and delegatingisn't just smart, it's biblical,
so far as stewardship of yourtime and energy.
Start by finding the tasks thatare essential for you that you
(04:48):
must have to handle yourself, okay, and once you get that,
then you can figure out whereyou can move next.
Then you can start delegatingsome of these administrative
duties or inviting your children.
I'm telling you there's sodifferent ways you can start
bringing kids into tasks thatyou do at the home and letting
them face more responsibility.
(05:09):
Are they going to always do itright in the way you would do it
right at the gate?
No, but give them a chance tolearn.
But if you allow others to stepin, you're not only creating
margin for yourself, but you'reempowering them to grow.
At the same time and this is anintentional act, rather, this
intentional act of delegationfrees you to focus on the work
(05:31):
that God has given you to do,because only you can do the work
that God's given you to do, andit helps you lead with greater
purpose.
So there you go, guys.
Have this margin, simplify anddelegate.
All right, now self-tip, just agood reminder for us here Be
present in the small moments, because life, when we think
(05:54):
about it, it's made up of thesmall.
Life is made up of so manysmall, seemingly insignificant
moments that have the greatestpotential for connection.
So what do we have to do?
We have to be present in thosemoments, and that takes
intentionality, it takesdiscipline, because we're the
most distracted world out there, right, and I don't care if
(06:18):
you're sharing a meal or drivingyour kids to school or just
sitting on the couch with yourfamily.
Put away the distractions andgive them your undivided
attention.
Eye contact, active listening, willingness to engage in
conversation.
All these things matter, nomatter how mundane the topic, it
shows some love and respect.
So my three-year-old wants totalk to me about her little pink
(06:41):
elephant that she carriesaround with her and tell me
about everything that'shappening there.
I need to be there becausethese moments, although they're
small, they build trust andintimacy over time.
And I'm just telling you, justtaking opportunities to pray for
each other while you're driving, in the car or before you leave
the house creates memories.
(07:03):
But if you make the choice tobe fully present, bro, you're
showing your family that they'revalued, that they're loved and
you're reflecting theattentiveness that God calls us
for every relationship.
That's important, all right.
So just be present in thosesmall moments, guys.
(07:23):
That's just three quickreminders for you Health, wealth
, self.
Fuel that body wisely, simplifyand delegate.
And be present in the smallmoments, all right.
So our book of the week thisweek, guys, again, we didn't
have an author on the show oranything like that this week, so
I want to pull this one out.
It's called King Me or anythinglike that this week.
But I want to pull this one out.
It's called King Me.
It's by my buddy, michaelThompson.
He wrote the Heart of a Warrior, but King Me, loving and
(07:47):
Leading in a Wounded World, andso he gave me this book.
He gave me a few copies.
Actually, we're doing somegiveaways on the book here
pretty soon.
It says this thing is reallybroken down into four different
sections the heart of a king, the journey of a king, the glory
of a king and the reign of aking.
So as you start thinkingthrough this again, I love
(08:08):
Michael, this analogy here, thisconnection to us being kings,
right, and we are called to this.
Right.
We're made in God's image.
So we'll have a link in theshow notes to this one for this
book, fellas.
It's a great ministry.
They have it, zoe, loveeverything that they're doing.
It's just a fun, a good readhere.
(08:28):
And I love the note.
It says every man has a kingdom, not every king rules.
Well, you can love that, lovethat.
So go check out that book.
King me guys Again, align withnus and if you click on free
resources, you'll find our bookof the week, uh, free tools,
rather, you'll find our books aweek of all the books that we

great way to get started rightthere.
Okay, we've got to get our dadjokes in.
So, dad jokes, we've got twodad jokes.

Why would fish be bad atbasketball?
I don't know.
Oh, because they're afraid ofthe net.
(09:10):
Got it?
There you go, fellas.
Number one.
Number two why can't a footballteam work in a bakery?
Hmm, well, because they fumbleon turnovers.
There you go, fellas.
Number one.
Number two why are fish bad atbasketball?
Because they're afraid of thenet.
Why is a football team?
Why can't a football team workin a bakery?
Because they fumble theturnovers?
(09:31):
So let us know which one youlike best.
Number one, number two Rememberit's not about a laugh, it's
about an eye roll.
So if you get an eye roll, thattotally counts.
And if you get an eye roll, that totally counts.

TheLionWithinus, send it tosupport at TheLionWithinus.
If we use the dad joke, we'llhook you up with some free swag
as a thank you and give you ashout out on the show, all right
.
So the whole question of theweek this week, fellas, is
what's robbing the market fromyour life?
(09:52):
Hopefully, prayerfully.
By now you know, you'restarting to Recognize what some
of those things are, what thosethieves are.
Now you have to go to work.
You got to combat that.
You got to get it out of yourlife so that you can lean in and
do what God's calling you to do, all right.
So thank you, guys, so muchAgain.

very much that in your life.
Guys, this is what we built itfor.

Give us a rating and review ifyou get a chance and remember to
keep unleashing the lion withit.
I don't know about you, but Iused to find Mondays really
rough.
(11:56):
I would find myself trying toreset for work, trying to get my
bearing on the family calendar, trying to find time for my own
spiritual growth and developmentfamily calendar, trying to find
time for my own spiritualgrowth and development, and
often I found myself overwhelmedor just flatly ignoring aspects
of my life that I know aremeaningful to me.
What I learned was that if I hadimmediate access to important
and impactful spiritual topicsand reflections to start my week
(12:16):
well after the allure of aSunday sermon has passed, to
start my week well after theallure of a Sunday sermon has
passed I would set my whole weekup to be more meaningful and
for the opportunity to make atrue impact, if you think that
getting such a boost would helpyour week to get started on the
right foot.
