Chris Grainger (00:03):
Welcome to the
Lion Within Us, a podcast
serving Christian men who arehungry to be the leaders God
intends you to be.
I'm your host, chris Granger.
Let's jump in.
All right, fellas, fun Fridaytime.
I'm excited to be here.
Let's go.
Scripture of the Week this weekis the book of Philippians,
chapter 2, verses 3 and 4.
Do nothing from selflessambition or conceit, but in
humility, count others moresignificant than yourselves.
(00:23):
Conceit, but in humility, countothers more significant than
yourselves.
Let each of you look not onlyto his own interests but also to
the interests of others.
Fellas, the whole idea ofserving others, that's what's
been about all week this week.
I spent time on Mondayunpacking these two verses at
length for our Spiritual Kickoffepisode.
So go back in your podcast feedtwo episodes ago and if you're
looking for some encouragementthere, that's where that's.
(00:44):
At the last episode, we spenttime talking about our most
recent mission trip we did toHurricane Helene relief there in
Western North Carolina, EasternTennessee.
Really just, I just wentthrough that mainly because I
just want you guys to know someof the testimonies and the
stories that we had just fromthe fact that we were there
(01:07):
willing to serve and willing tohelp out in any way possible.
I know it's probably a smallway but, guys, for the people
that we were able to helpdirectly, it was massive.
So, again, go check out thatpodcast out there.
So for our listeners who aremaybe new to Del line, within us
we know we're picking up a lotof new listeners Each week.
We do a health, wealth and aself-tip.
(01:29):
Okay, that's kind of like thethree pillars of the line within
us.
The health is mind and body, like how do we strengthen our
minds as well as our bodies?
You can't just have strong arms, you got to have a strong mind
as well.
Wealth tip, rather, is how dowe steward our finances and our
careers better?
That's a big deal.
And then self-tip is not how dowe improve selfishly, but no,
how can we improve as husbandsand fathers?
(01:50):
That's really it.
What do we need to do there?
So let's jump right into them, okay.
So our first tip is a healthtip is a health S's to avoid.
Okay, and I got this tip from aBible study group that I did
and they came up with like fiveS's to avoid Salt, sugar,
seconds, eating after seven andsitting, and you guys you hear
(02:12):
me talk about some of these allthe time.
But salt and sugar, that's ano-brainer.
You just need to know those arethings you need to have a
certain limit on in your dietperiod.
Seconds probably not necessary.
I know ThanksgivingThanksgiving is super necessary
there because you can't fit itall in one plate.
Let's just be real.
But on a general rule of thumb, that's totally a joke, guys.
General rule of thumb, though.
(02:33):
Seconds no.
If you have right portioncontrol, the seconds are usually
not necessary.
Give yourself some time forthat food to digest.
You'll likely find that you'renot as hungry as you thought you
were.
Okay, eating after seven, that's just a good rule of thumb
to give your digestive systemtime to process the food that's
there and not putting excesscalories on before you go to bed
(02:54):
, because usually that ends upbeing a stored fat.
And then sitting you guys heardme talk about this in the past.
Sitting is to do smoking.
Be careful with that.
Okay, I'm not saying that youshouldn't sit.
Sitting is to do smoking.
Be careful with that.
Okay, I'm not saying that youshouldn't sit.
I sit as part of my job.
Also, make sure it's part of mycareer, though.
I'm having to get up and getactive every day on a regular
basis because I do so muchsitting and I recognize that
(03:15):
that is a potential area thatcould really be a downfall for
me if I just remain that way.
So be careful.
So those five S's salt, sugar, seconds, eating after seven and
sitting, all right, wealth tipfellas, lead by serving at work.
Okay, I'm going to tell you,the influence that you're
looking for is not through atitle.
I don't care if you're a CFO, aCEO or a janitor, it doesn't
(03:37):
matter.
It's earned through servicewhen you start serving others.
Particularly if you're feelingstuck, like your service when
you start serving others, takeit.
If you're feeling stuck, yourcareer's just not really going
anywhere right now.
Find ways to serve.
Find ways to serve I'm tellingyou it's going to change
everything and do it without anyexpectations of anything in
return.
So you can do this by mentoringsomeone who's younger than you.
(03:59):
Just you know what I'm going tobe intentional about helping
this person be successful.
Or you can do that task youknow that one that's on the
assignment board that nobodywants to do.
You just put your name on it,claim it and go do it.
Lean into the hard stuff orshow up early to support the
team.
Let them know that you can becount on, because when we stop
striving for personalrecognition and start seeking,
(04:22):
start serving serving ratherfrom a place of humility doors
are going to start opening.
I'm just telling you that's theway it's going to be, because
that's the type of people peoplewant to be around.
Okay, and God brings a ton ofhonor to men who bring his
principles first, no matterwhere they're at Not just
sitting at a pew on Sunday, butyour cubicle on Tuesday.
(04:43):
The blessing that he has inplan usually follows steps of
obedience.
All right, that's it.
Lead by serving at work,self-tip.
Serve first at home, at home.
If you want to lead your family.
Well, guys, you got to startserving them intentionally,
because it's easy to serveothers outside the home and then
(05:06):
come home and you're justcompletely running on empty.
I did this for the longest time, but please hear me here your
wife and kids are your firstmission field.
They are, they are counting onyou to be the spiritual leader
of the home.
So what you may have to do isdo something unexpected.
Start simple Maybe wash somedishes, I don't know.
(05:28):
Plan a date night.
Plan a dad date with your kids.
Don't wait for the perfect timeto do this stuff, because
that's the perfect time.
It's never going to exist.
There's always going to beinconveniences.
That's part of it.
Say yes, these little smallacts of service at home.
What do they do?
They build trust, they buildlove and you're building some
(05:48):
memories.
They're going to look back onit and they're going to say, man
, dad really showed up there, because if you want some
servant-hearted kids and I knowI do well, they need to see it
from you first.
They just do See.
I'm not trying to be hard onyou, but I am trying to be
direct.
Serve first at home.
That's your health.
Wealth.
Self tip so that S is to avoidSalt, sugar, seconds, eating
(06:11):
after seven and sitting.
Wealth tip lead by serving atwork.
Self tip serve first at home.
Alright guys.
Book of the week I got themholding it up right here A
Million Little Miracles by ourbuddy Mark Madison.
It says, rediscovered to God,who is bigger than big, closer
to close and gooder than goodMark talks about.
God is bigger than what wethink we can rest in his wisdom
(06:33):
and strength.
God is closer than we realize.
We can never have to do lifealone.
And God is better than weimagine we can reclaim our
childlike wonder alone and Godis better than we imagine.
We can reclaim our childlikewonder Fellas, love anything
Mark puts out.
His publisher sent this to mejust a little bit ago, so I've
had a chance to really gothrough this yet directly.
I know it's going to be great.
Anything from Mark is alwaysawesome.

So for our dad jokes this weekwe always do dad jokes on our
Fun Friday episodes.
First dad joke is I don't trustthe stairs, they're always up
(07:21):
to something.
That's it, fellas.
That's number one.
Number two have you ever triedto catch a fog?
I tried yesterday, but I missed.
All right, fellas, let me knowNumber one and number two.
I don't trust stairs, they'realways up to something.
Number two have you ever triedto catch a fog?
I tried yesterday but I missedAgain.
Eye rolls completely acceptable.
(07:44):
It's kind of like the goldreally.
If you want to think about it.
Size, totally good.
If your wife turns around andwalks off, that's okay.
Just give her some time.
Maybe it's a heart issue, Idon't know.
But anyway, fellas, we like toshare these dad jokes and if you
have some dad jokes that youalways go to and you think that
we would like send me an email, please Support at
(08:04):

We'll give you a shout out onthe show as well as just hook
you up with some free resourcesalong the way.
That would just hopefullyencourage you on your walk with
Christ.
All right.
So the question this week I'vebeen asking it all week.
It's time to really start, butthis is something that you'll
(08:28):
want to just keep delaying Again.
If you're looking for thatperfect time to do a trip, it's
never going to happen.
You'll find perfect times to goon vacation.
I'm just going to be honestthis morning.
But if you're looking for thatperfect time to do a mission
trip, it's not going to happen.
He's going to do all he can totrip you up, to make you say no.
He's going to do all he can tokeep you from going on that trip
(08:48):
.
There's going to be last littleminute things that pop up
that's going to try todiscourage you.
Keep fighting, keep fighting, because a blessing comes after
the obedience it just does.
Blessings come after obedience.
You have to do the hard things.
That's what we're called to do.
We're not called to easy, we'recalled to hard.
(09:09):
Hey, you know, look for thoseopportunities and then start
saying yes, start saying yes.
So thank you so much forlistening.
Just again, from the bottom ofmy heart, from our Mission Trip
team, I want to thank them againfor everything that they did.

I don't know about you, but Iused to find Mondays really
rough.
I would find myself trying toreset for work, trying to get my
bearing on the family calendar, trying to find time for my own
spiritual growth and development, and often I found myself
(11:49):
overwhelmed or just flatlyignoring aspects of my life that
I know are meaningful to me.
What I learned was that if I hadimmediate access to important
and impactful spiritual topicsand reflections to start my week
well, after the allure of aSunday sermon has passed, I

opportunity to make a trueimpact, if you think that
