Chris Grainger (00:03):
Welcome to the Lion Within Us, a podcast
serving Christian men who arehungry to be the leaders God
intends you to be.
I'm your host, chris Granger.
Let's jump in.
All right, fellas, it is a funFriday episode for you.
Let's get right into it.
You made it through anotherweek, hallelujah, right.
So let's look at our scriptureof the week.
We kind of talked about this onour spiritual kickoff episode
as well as our Wednesday meetepisode, but it's the Romans

(00:23):
1.20.
Kickoff episode as well as ourWednesday meet episode, but it's
the Romans 120.
It says this Now we took sometime on the spiritual kickoff
episode to unpack that at lengthto give you some ways so you

(00:45):
can simplify and apply that toyour life.
Love for you to go back andlisten to that one for sure.
You know, as we start thinkingabout this whole week, the whole
science dilemma conversation wehad that with Alan directly and
I know that can be a stumblingblock for lots of people
wrestling through what sciencesays versus a faith walk.

(01:05):
Right, it doesn't have to be adilemma, it doesn't have to be.
There is overwhelming evidenceto the validity of Christ being
the Messiah and science can tryto refute it, but at the end of
the day, it's always funny to mewhen the science catches up
with creation and what God hasin His divine plan and you see

(01:29):
it happening over and over andover.
And Alan and them, they've donea great job of unpacking some
salient truths, some scientificfacts, and coupling that with
God's Word and the ultimatetruth.
So I just really enjoyed thatconversation with Alan.
Just a fun guy to be know, tobe able to you meet so many
people.
When you podcast, you neverknow the different types of

(01:51):
personalities, who's really init, just for their agenda.
Alan, before we recorded, Ithought it was just very telling
of his nature.
His number one question to mewas Chris, what can I do to
serve the people that listen toyour show the most?
I know we're going to talkabout the science and the stuff
that we've built, but what can Ido to draw your listeners, the

(02:14):
ones who find value and alignwithin us, to help them?
How can I serve them?
It was at that moment it's like, yep, this is going to be a
good conversation.
It was because he had thatservant mindset right.
It's just so important for usto remember as men as we go
through our day.
We can be so fixated on pushingour own agenda.
Alan, he was directly.

(02:35):
You know what, how can I serve?
So that was just a good, joyfulmoment for me to have that from
him as a guest and hopefullythat came through when you
listened to that interview.
All right, so let's get intoour fun.
Friday for the Lion Within Us,we always do a health, wealth
and a self tip, okay.
So if you're a new listener tothe show, first of all welcome.

(02:56):
Thank you so much for listening.
The health tip is reallyfocused on being stronger minds
and bodies.
What can we do to strengthenour minds and bodies to honor
and glorify God?
Not that we want to look betterin a mirror, no but we need to
do what we can so that when hecalls us to do hard things,
we're prepared, okay.
The wealth tip is around beingstewards of our finances and,

(03:19):
alternately, how do we stewardour careers?
If you think about stewardingyour career, that's a whole
mindset shift right.
And then self.
It's not like how do you foryou to get better as a person
like that's, that's that's whole.
You know the wrong motive.
Self, really from the line, within a standpoint husband,
father For you guys who aremarried.
How can we be better husbandsFor you guys that are fathers?

(03:41):
How can we, you know, level upour fatherhood to be the fathers
that God's called us to be?
All right.
So let's think about a coupleof tips here.
From a health standpoint, there's so much value in
learning from others andpodcasts.
It's just been a.
It's a great way to grow.

(04:02):
I listen to tons of podcastsevery day.
I have podcasts I listen to,either from political podcasts
or theological podcasts, and getfaith driven podcasts, whatever
they may be.
But you're constricted by thisone variable when it comes down
to podcasts Time.
There's only so much time in aday, so how do you, how do you

(04:24):
get more?
You know, how do you maximizethat time?
It's on your podcast feederright now.
You can even do this with aline within us speed it up, go
from one to one and a half ortwo times, and I've I've heard
there's even players out there.
Now I haven't looked at at myplayer recently to see if it has
it yet.
They recently to see if it hasit yet They've actually gone up

(04:44):
three times speed.
I can't listen fast enough.
I don't think to do athree-time speed, but that could
be a limiting belief.
I'm going to have to try it.
But I find one and a half is areally good spot, really good
spot for lots of podcasts outthere where you don't feel
rushed listening to it Two times.
If you listen to someone at twotimes, if they're a nationally

(05:06):
fast speaker, it can bedifficult to keep that up.
I mean, at that point it reallymoves really quickly.
But that one and a half nomatter if they're a little bit
slower or average or even aboveaverage that one and a half is a
nice sweet spot that I found tobe just a great place to
consume more Time.
Is that limiting factor?

(05:27):
So what can you do?
And I just want to.
If you've never tried it before, maybe try it.
You can just hit the littleplayback speed button and then
play around with it and see whatsits best with you.
Sometimes you may even have toslow stuff down, like if you
have a super fast speaker or ifit's a deep topic and you need a
little bit more time.

(05:47):
You could go the other way.
But if you're trying toincrease more, to get more into
your mind, to guard your mindright, think about that one and
a half speed.
All right.
So that's a health tip, more ofa mind one this week.
Wealth tip All right.
Alan talked about some prettycool projects, right, some
things you can do as a father tomake those investments in your

(06:09):
children.
I want to remind you, from astewardship standpoint, to put
that into the budget.
It can be fun to get excited onstuff.
You hear stuff.
Next thing you go buy this, buythis, buy this, and you look at
the end of the month and youspend a couple hundred dollars
that you hadn't planned onspending on, you know, a science

(06:30):
project.
I'm not saying I don't want youto spend a couple hundred
dollars on a science project, no.
But if you have a tight budget, did you need to plan for it?
Like, don't let this, you know, surprise you.
You don't want those expenses.
They accumulate, but if you'replanning for it, that's okay,
that's a planned expense andthat's good stewardship.
So again, even things Alantalked about.

(06:50):
He has a paywall on some of thethings he has for the science
dilemma.
I want you to support him, Iwant you to budget for it, even
though they're not superexpensive items.
The things that the ancillarypieces that come with that so
far as doing your project may besome expenses you need to know
about.
So just plan ahead, budgetforward.
Now for the self-tip.
Here's something to considerActually walk out some of these

(07:14):
science projects and theseexperiments with your kids.
Do it with them.
I'm going to tell you right now, your kids want more than
anything.
They just want to spend timewith you, right, and this could
be a fun way to do it.
Maybe it's blowing up something, or maybe it's creating slime,
whatever it may be.
Find some ways to have some fun, exciting science projects with

(07:34):
your kids.
I just remember I have suchgreat memories of my two oldest
and she had a chemical kit andwe just had some fun memories of
, you know, mixing the chemicalstogether that caused a little
mini types of explosions wherestuff is next thing.
You know, stuff's all over thekitchen table, right, but you
know what?
Those are fun moments to lookback on, smile and reflect, and

(07:56):
they bring back good memoriesfor my daughters as well, and
it's just for you as a dad.
When you do those types ofexperiments and you do those
types, you're learning, which iscool.
It's definitely cool to learn, but lots of those you just do at
home, right.
So you've turned your your home.
You've transformed it from youknow, this is just where we eat

(08:16):
dinner to now this is our, our,our science lab, right.
You start, and you start mixingin some little fun language like
that Like, hey, we're in ourscience lab, go, put on your
science, your science coat, right, and let them put on a
pretend little science flock.
And I said there's so manythings you could do there to
have so much fun with that.
Don't miss it.
Don't miss it.

(08:37):
And the fact that you justactually took the time to do it
and you're going to, you'regoing to make such a big impact
on your kids, it, man, you'regoing to, you're going to make
such a big impact on your kids, and maybe it could be one of
those memories that, uh, youlook back on and, just like with
me, you can just smile, reflectand, uh, just have a good time.
So I just want to encourage you, because when we have guests
like Alan who comes on, itreminds me that you know we're

(08:58):
not called to be boring.
You know we're called to dosome fun things, to be creative.
So these science experiments areout there and look, you don't
have to go back and figure allthis stuff out on your own.
I'm actually going to share abook with you here in the book
of the week that's going to helpencourage you to do that.
All right, so that's it.
That's your three tips yourhealth, wealth and self.
That health is consume more atthat.

(09:19):
One and a half or two, how thatsits, and then play with it.
See how that goes.
Wealth tip build some of thescience project expenses into
your budget.
We don't want to get too farahead.
Don't put the cart before thehorse and then self tip walk
these experiments out with yourkids.
Have some fun with it.
Smile, go out there and havesome fun doing these experiments

(09:43):
together.
The book of the week I don'thave a copy of it right here,
but I found it online.
I thought it was superinteresting.
It's a big Bible science book.
So if you search big Biblescience, if you go to
thelinewithinus and you look atour Book of the Weeks, we'll
have a link there for you.
But it had a bunch of differentscience experiments that you
could do that are biblicallybased with your kids.

(10:05):
So if this week has seemed likean interesting topic, I want
you to, first and foremost, gocheck out the Science Dilemma
all the stuff that Alan's gotgoing on, but this could be a
good piece to come alongsidewith things like that.
The way that this book worked, the big Bible science book.
It gives you obviously thescriptures, the connections, the

(10:25):
Bible stories, but then itgives you the, the science
experiments, the things that youneed to do the experiments, you
know, things to get prepared,so you have a successful
experiment.
All that stuff.
It's just a way to bring thoseworlds together.
So go check that stuff out, allright?
All right, so here we go.
We got our dad joke time.
We've reached that point of ourshow.
We're going to share with you acouple of dad jokes Now.

(10:47):
These are from one of ourmembers named Doug.
We love Doug.
Doug's always bringing dadjokes up in any meeting from our
Bible studies that we have toour couples night.
If Doug is there, it's going tobe a good time.
So, doug, thank you so much foreverything that you do, the
support that you give us.
So here are two jokes that hesubmitted.
Most people don't know that youare born with four kidneys.

(11:09):
As you grow up, two becomeadult knees.
You get that you got fourkidneys, but as you grow up they
become two adult knees.
So there you go.
That's the first one.
Number two what's the name of aman who just got finished
digging?
Doug, right.
So what's the name of the manwho finished digging?

(11:31):
His name is Doug.
What most people don't know isthat you're born with four
kidneys, but as you grow, twobecome adult knees.
So again, let us know which oneyou like best.
If you get an eye roll, if youget a sigh, if you get just a,
she turns around and walks away.
Then the dad joke did its job.
So, doug, thank you so much, brother.
It's just such a.
Anytime he sends me dad jokes, they pick up my day, they bring

(11:55):
a smile to my face.
He's the type of guy who's justalways in just that uplifting
spirit he has.
He's a Barnabas for sure.
He's such an encourager.
So, guys, if you like the dadjokes, or if you have other dad
jokes that you think we shouldconsider, join the community or
send us an email, support at theLionelTenus.

(12:15):
Let me know what your dad jokesare.
We'll give you a shout out onthe show.
So thank you again, doug.
So the question of the week.
We talked about it all week.
Where is God calling you totrust versus understanding.
I know this is a very conflict, you know an area of conflict
for lots of guys, because wewant to understand.
Like I don't want to just walkblindly.
Are you kidding me, chris?
I'm walking blindly, I may tripup and I totally get it.

(12:37):
I totally get it, but at somepoint you got to take a step of
faith, and that's what being aChristian is all about.
That's what following Christ isall about.
It's not always going to showyou everything from A to Z, what
he expects.
He does expect you to take thatstep of faith, and that means
you know what.
There could be some things thatwe just don't understand, and
that's okay.

(12:59):
All right, guys, hopefully youenjoyed this stuff.
Send us a rating or review forsure.
Send it out to others.
That's a great way you can helpsupport the show, to help it
grow.

I don't know about you, but Iused to find Mondays really
rough.
I would find myself trying toreset for work, trying to get my
bearing on the family calendar, trying to find time for my own
spiritual growth and development, and often I found myself

(14:49):
overwhelmed or just flatlyignoring aspects of my life that
I know are meaningful to me.
What I learned was that if I hadimmediate access to important
and impactful spiritual topicsand reflections to start my week
well, after the allure of aSunday sermon has passed, I
would set my whole week up to bemore meaningful and for the
opportunity to make a trueimpact.
