(02:34):
How are you doing today?
Pastor Joby Martin (02:36):
Doing great.
How about you?
Chris Grainger (02:37):
Yeah, well, I've
been better.
I broke my ankle on July 26th,so I've been struggling, to be
honest, but we're getting theredoing what?
Pastor Joby Martin (02:46):
what were
you doing?
Chris Grainger (02:47):
cutting trees
big limb.
A big limb broke loose on a bigpecan tree on my farm and and
knocked me from behind andknocked my bone off my ankle.
So, uh, it's been interesting.
So at your, at your conference,I'll be there, but I'll be
hopping around a little bit.
You're gonna be on one of thoselittle one-legged scooter
things.
Pastor Joby Martin (03:04):
No, I'm,
hopefully I'll be there, but
I'll be hopping around a littlebit.
You going to be on one of thoselittle one-legged scooter
things?
Chris Grainger (03:06):
No, hopefully
I'll be out of a scooter by then
.
I'm on a scooter right now, butit's been challenging.
I'm going to be honest.
It's been some depression, justsome struggle.
Moments when you can't be thedad that you're called to be and
the husband you're called to beon the farm, and now the kids
are having to pick up.
It's been a little bit of aseason.
Pastor Joby Martin (03:26):
Yeah, yeah,
it'll teach you how fragile we
actually are.
Chris Grainger (03:29):
You got that
right, you got that right.
So yeah, other than that, man,it's been gravy Yikes.
Pastor Joby Martin (03:37):
Well, I hope
you heal up fast.
Chris Grainger (03:39):
I appreciate
that.
How's life been for you?
I know we've worked togetherthree other times, but what's
new in in pastor Joby's world?
Pastor Joby Martin (03:49):
Life is good
, man.
Um, I have a wife that loves meand probably the best thing, uh
, third John, verse four.
You know there's only onechapter in third John.
I don't think everybody everreally reads it.
But the fourth verse of 3, johnsays I have no greater joy than
this, than to hear my childrenare walking in the truth.
(04:11):
Now think about this.
Think about who wrote that.
That dude did the Last Supperwith Jesus.
That dude handed out the fishand the loaves.
That dude was on the Mount ofTransfiguration.
Right, john gets a revelationfrom the resurrected, ascended
Christ and writes down theconsummation of the kingdom come
(04:32):
forever.
And obviously John would saythat his love of Christ is
preeminent in all things.
But all the earthly things, hesays, that bring him the
greatest joy is to know that hischildren are walking in the
truth.
And so that's it.
Man, I mean church is betterthan it's ever been.
(04:53):
But I can't even I don't havewords to describe what a distant
second the church of 1122 is,to how grateful I am to God for
my wife and two kids.
Chris Grainger (05:05):
Yeah, and then I
see, recently was Reagan,
recently got baptized.
Pastor Joby Martin (05:11):
Yeah, yeah,
she did.
I mean, she's been walking withthe Lord for a while, but she
got baptized real young and wewere at camp and she was just
like dad.
I feel like I didn't reallyknow what I was doing, even
though she did.
It was a moment for her, forsure, to draw a line in the sand
and declare you know, her walkwith Christ.
(05:32):
And so, instead of arguingabout it, I just said just get
the shirt on, let's go.
And yeah, it was great.
Chris Grainger (05:39):
Man, that's
awesome.
That's awesome.
Well, it sounds like things aregoing great for you, definitely
so happy for what you got going.
Then 1122 at home as well, andI mean the fourth book's out,
working with Charles.
I got a chance to work withCharles.
I don't know if I told you so Iget why you like working with
him so much.
Pastor Joby Martin (05:59):
He's a great
guy, he's the best.
I mean, he's one of my Maccarriers.
He's a I don't even know, Idon't even have a good category
for what he is to me.
You know a brother, a friend, afellow pastor, a co-laborer, a
hunting buddy, a neighbor.
I mean that guy's gettingeasier to write these books with
him.
Yeah, it is.
(06:20):
I mean, you know, we kind ofgot quite the groove.
We're working on number fiveright now.
Chris Grainger (06:27):
Right, that's
awesome, that is so awesome Well
I mean that's great.
I mean I know this has beenthis focus this year for you and
1122 has been on men and butI'm super curious, like what the
ladies are, how that responsehas been from.
You guys have a lot of femalelisteners and attenders and
church members, so just curiouswhat you're hearing there.
Pastor Joby Martin (06:51):
So in the
first weekend of January that I
preach you know kind of based onthe calendar, but the first
weekend of our year I stand infront of our church and hand
them a vision piece to sayhere's what we're doing, here's
where we're going, here's whatwe're studying, here's where
we're going, here's what we'restudying.
Here are the big events thatyou just can't miss.
You should schedule your wholeyear around what's happening,
what the Lord's doing here, andthen, historically, I just tell
(07:14):
them what the goal, what thefocus is for the year.
And so in January I stood upand said this year we're going
to call men to stand up and actlike men, Because when men lead
and love well, everybodyflourishes.
I have had exactly zerocomplaint emails from the women
of 1122.
Literally zero.
I've gotten nothing butencouragement Because, first of
(07:37):
all, honestly, the ladies at ourchurch and most churches,
they're just smart enough toconnect the dots on whatever
we're teaching.
You know and it's not like I'monly talking to dudes all year,
I mean so we studied 1 TimothyTitus, we did a series on
discipleship, we did a seriescalled In the Arena, where we
(07:59):
just looked at fights in theBible, and now we're studying
the life of Elijah.
Okay, so you just teach theBible.
But the women of 1122 understandthat, uh, men and women were
are meant to compliment oneanother, not compete against one
another, and the women here areum so humble and so dialed in.
(08:21):
They know that if the men willjust stand up and act like men,
everybody wins.
There's not a woman that I knowthat doesn't want some man to
do what Jesus told him to do,whether it's a son or a husband
or a dad or a friend or aco-worker or a potential husband
.
And so the women of 1122 areincredible and, honestly I'm
(08:44):
going to have to be honest,Chris what do you think you
think the problem at church isthat women aren't doing what
they're supposed to do?
Chris Grainger (08:49):
No bro.
Pastor Joby Martin (08:51):
Go to a
prayer meeting.
Look at the response time atthe altar.
Is it full of men or women?
Look at the worship.
Look at who's worshiping,leading in worship I don't mean
the people on stage I'm talkingabout.
So you know, they know, theyknow and so.
But that's the.
(09:11):
A godly woman knows that when aman takes his rightful place,
something in the air shifts man.
Like when a godly man acts likea godly man, people don't feel
scared or scarce.
They feel safe and cared forand so that's the feedback we
get.
Chris Grainger (09:30):
So good, so good
.
Well, just hats off for the wayyou've leaned into it, and I
mean the sermons each week.
When I think you can't get anybetter, you just drop fire.
And then brit I don't know whatbrit's been eating lately, but
when he's when he's on, he's on,he has been on point has it's
been incredible?
I think that's on you.
I know it's been incredible.
Pastor Joby Martin (09:45):
I think
that's on you, britt's always
been incredible.
I just think that people areunderstanding.
You know, like you just kind ofyour expectations have changed
and you've gotten, you've grown, you've learned to hear a new
voice.
Fair enough, I mean, if Brittwas the lead preacher all the
(10:05):
time and I filled in, peoplewould skip past me every week.
I'm telling you yeah, fairenough, a lead pastor for a long
time.
He planted the Austin StoneChurch and is one of the best
preachers in the country.
He's a part of the team now too.
(10:30):
Get ready for some even moregoodness on 1122.
Chris Grainger (10:35):
I'm curious for
this episode too, for our
listeners to learn about Dr Paul.
I've heard you talk about him.
He's in the book.
I just want to give him alittle spotlight here.
I mean, would you mind justsharing a little bit about Dr
Paul?
Pastor Joby Martin (10:49):
Yeah, Dr
Paul Larson is one of the
founding elders of 1122.
He turned 91 this week.
Chris Grainger (10:54):
This week, no
kidding.
Pastor Joby Martin (10:56):
Yeah, 91.
So he's a very, veryaccomplished man.
He was the dean of the Schoolof Medicine at LSU, like
probably in the 70s, maybe 80s,I don't know.
He started to so.
Anyway, he's a neuroscientist Iused to do brain surgery and
(11:17):
stuff like that and he's just agodly guy.
He's going to Malawi on amission trip like in two weeks
and he's standing up a medicalclinic there.
And he's going to malawi on amission trip like in two weeks
and he's standing up a medicalclinic there and he's just on
the go.
I think a part of the reasonthat he has the life that he has
is because he didn't quit.
I think a bunch of old men Idon't know if there's old men
listening just don't stop, man, don't stop, don't worship
(11:40):
comfort.
Part of the reason old peopledie is because they're dumb kids
.
Don't let them do the thingsthat keep people alive.
And if you worship at the altarof comfort, there's nothing
more comfortable than a casketand that's where your life will
go.
In fact, I got real sidewayswith our elders.
I am under the authority of aboard of elders here and years
(12:00):
ago, like seven years ago, theywanted me to tell Dr Paul he
couldn't go on mission tripsanymore because he's getting too
old and I was like what youscared?
He's going to die.
Newsflash, he's going to die.
Would you rather him die inAfrica on the mission field or
like laid up in a nursing home?
Just he, he has earned it.
He can do whatever he wants todo.
And so you know, they finallycame around to see the way I see
(12:23):
it.
But he's a stud man he's.
How about this for a compliment?
We were he.
You know he's a part of theteam that does like my annual
evaluation, and a few years agoI guess the church was about
five years old at that point, sothat would have been eight
years ago or something and hesays to me in my evaluation
(12:47):
thanks for the best five yearsof my life.
That he would say, of all thethings that he's ever been a
part of, it's these last fewyears that he's had the most
meaning, he's had the biggestimpact, that God used him in
ways that he's never been usedbefore.
And so I'll tell you, everybodyloves when young families come
(13:10):
to their church.
At 1122, we started a senioradult ministry to keep that
golden generation in the game.
You know like you may retirefrom your vocation, but you
never retire from the Greatcommission and the great
commandment, and 11 22 has a tonof I was gonna say gray hairs,
(13:31):
but it's led by gray hair.
So, um, we got a ton of senioradults that are just they've got
, they got resources, they havetime, they have experience.
I mean, bro, they've beenpraying longer than you've been
alive and it's a real mistake ifa church overlooks them.
We want to empower them, likesomething we did this year,
(13:53):
which it wasn't my idea.
I wish it was my idea, but itwas one of the coolest things.
So we've got a ministry we call1825.
You know, it's like collegecareer kind of thing, and we
paired them up with our senioradult ministry.
And we did a midweek Bible study, where I mean we got thousands
and thousands of 18, 25 yearsand they would show up and at
(14:18):
every table was led by a senioradult or a senior adult couple.
Because all these man, allthese 18 year olds, you know
what they want, they want agranddad.
And with our mobile society.
You know nobody like livesmulti-generational anymore with
their people, and so they were.
You know they're able to shareexperience and wisdom with these
kids and these kids give theseold folks like life and vibrancy
(14:39):
and and uh, and you know itbreaks down a lot of barriers
because you know every 18, every18-year-old thinks every
80-year-old is just I don't knowwhat they think about them and
most 80-year-olds think the18-year-olds are idiots.
Chris Grainger (14:52):
That's right.
Pastor Joby Martin (14:52):
And then
they find out they actually are
idiots, but they're lovelylittle idiots that we can help.
You know, train and aim andguide, so it helps.
Chris Grainger (15:01):
I think that's
where a lot of churches miss it,
because it's all about age andstage and keeping the ages and
stages together.
But this is the beauty of whatyou're doing there, because that
brings in that knowledge andwisdom and gives that older
generation a sense of purposetoo.
So man hats off for whoeverthought of that one.
That's incredible.
Pastor Joby Martin (15:17):
That's cool,
I love it, I love it.
Chris Grainger (15:19):
Amen, amen.
Well, I thought somethinginteresting when I was going
through the book.
I mean, stand firm, act like meand guys when this is that when
this drops, it's live.
So so go get a copy of it.
But you start talking aboutguys avoid risking failure, and
why guys do that.
They don't want to, they don'twant to risk failing anything,
(15:42):
and I just want to just give youa place just to kind of expand
on that.
Pastor Joby Martin (15:44):
Yeah, I mean
, we were created as image
bearers of God.
Now, I guess, technically, godcan't take a risk, right,
because he knows he's sovereignover all things and he knows
there is no future for God.
He knows, but from ourperspective, god looks at a
sinful, rebellious people andsends his only begotten son on a
rescue mission for us.
Right, and again, this is justfrom our perspective, and so God
(16:10):
has put this thing in us wherewe're like risk taking is
biblical and for too long we'veworshiped as the idol of comfort
and safety and control andcertainty.
Well, I mean, that might be the, the american dream, but that
is not the biblical standard formanhood.
I mean, look what god does.
God tells abraham when he wasold hey, man, pack up, let's go
(16:31):
where I'll let you know.
And he goes.
He tells moses I want you to go, put your finger in the chest
of the pharaoh and say let mypeople go.
Well, what's gonna happen, bro,we'll see.
Right, jesus shows up on thescene and stands right before
pilot and he and and he's likethe only reason you get to stand
in this kind of authority isbecause I, I gave you that
(16:52):
authority.
He sends out the 72 and he'slike this world's gonna hate you
, but don't worry, I'm with you.
Then he sends us all out on thegreat commission and says I
mean they might try to kill you.
So what?
Don't fear the person that canonly crush your body, but fear
the one that's in control ofyour soul.
Risk-taking is a biblical value.
This is why men feel alive evenwhen they feign risk.
(17:15):
You know what I mean.
Like you go on a whatever acamping trip, a hunting trip, a
surf trip, whatever when you putyourself out there in things
that feel a little risky, thisis why a part of you comes alive
, because that's a part of thecharacter and nature of God that
we reflect, coming alive in us.
Chris Grainger (17:38):
That's great
stuff there.
I mean, I think when I was kindof digging through here a
couple of things as you fromthat that risk taking you led to
five factors and I startedlooking and I'm like this is why
I don't take a lot of riskright here.
But you talk about pride, worry, laziness, isolation and lust.
They pull us away from doingwhat God's calling us to do.
And I'm just curious.
I mean, you meet with a lot ofguys, you got a lot of influence
(17:58):
, guys you know really followyou and just the impact you're
having is huge.
Out of those five areas, do yousee, is there any one that's a
bigger stumbling block?
Or is it just like most guysare five for five across the
board?
Pastor Joby Martin (18:12):
here.
No, it's different, I mean.
So a part of that.
1 Corinthians 16, 13 starts outbe watchful, or watch out, or
stand watch, that's actually amilitary term, you know.
Like I'm like hey, chris, it'syour turn.
It's your turn on watch, todefend, to protect, right.
So the enemy is trying to takeyou out, right, john 10, 10, the
(18:35):
thief comes only to steal, killand destroy.
Why?
Because if he takes you out, then by definition the ones that
you are to defend aredefenseless.
Well, peter, in first peter 5 istalking to the men of the
church, he's talking to elders,so this is specific to men.
And he says watch out.
Like wake up and dude, thedevil doesn't care how he kills
(19:01):
you.
Like, when you go bass fishingor whatever kind of fishing, do
you care what lure works?
No, you just want to catch fish, that's it.
So he doesn't care.
If it's anxiety, if it'sbusyness, if it's isolation, if
it's lust, he doesn't care.
And if one lure doesn't work,he'll just clip that one off and
retie on another one and throwit your way.
(19:22):
And so I just wanted to wake menup and realize, bro, we're not
just talking about you and yourpersonal relationship with Jesus
, that your family, yourgrandchildren's lives depend on
you being on that wall andstanding on that wall, and God
has orchestrated it so that wewould be called to be on that
wall, and it's I mean, listen, man, the Bible is not an old
(19:45):
book, it's a timeless book.
It doesn't just tell you whatused to happen, it tells you
what always happens, right, right and 2000 years ago, the
same warning that Peter isgiving to the men at his church.
Uh, it's, it's still applicabletoday 100%, 100%.
Chris Grainger (20:02):
I mean, uh, this
has been something that's been.
When I look at the way he'stripped me up.
You talk about the differentlures.
I mean it's such a greatanalogy and I just think so many
guys we just got to lean intoit and recognize that we're in a
fight.
I think that's why I like tofight in the arena series so
much, because so many guys justdon't even know they're in a
fight.
You're getting sucker punched.
Pastor Joby Martin (20:27):
I'm like bro
, what it?
Yeah, dude, you're the sucker.
If you don't know, punches arehappening and you get hit.
You're the sucker, right?
I mean, I said it before youknow, I obviously love to hunt.
You see all kind of animalsbehind me.
I think it's funny when theycall it a sport, because none of
those guys knew that the gamewas on right, that's right, like
that elk.
He thought he was going todinner.
He didn't know it was dinner atmy house.
And if you don't realize thatyou have a spiritual enemy, the
(20:47):
devil, who only wants to kill, steal and destroy, then you're
gonna lose man.
The first time it hit me was uh, uh, stolts and nitson's uh
gulag archipelago.
I mean, he's not even I don'tknow if he's a believer or not,
but he was talking about how the, the uh russian police were
scooping up unaware citizens andputting them in the gulag.
(21:11):
Well, the person that haspredetermined that you're going
to fight is always going to winthe fight.
If you wait to put on thespiritual armor when the bullets
are flying, you're dead.
I mean, can you imagineObviously I'm a big Georgia
Bulldog fan.
Can you imagine if GunnarStockman doesn't put on his
shoulder pads until the kickoff, like while the ball's in the
(21:32):
air?
You're dead.
I don't care how good you are, that's the average American
church going man.
Like you think Netflix is justfor entertainment.
You don't think that the devilof hell is trying to kill your
kids?
And I can tell you, like we're.
You know oftentimes, here's,here's what's going to happen,
(21:54):
here's how you get taken offthat wall.
Here's how you get lulled tosleep Ready.
You're sitting on your couchwatching Fox news every night,
right, and you're yelling at theTV because you've got opinions
on on Israel and Ukraine and thesouthern border right, and
you're yelling about thesouthern border and do you have
whatever opinions you want.
That's not what I mean.
Meanwhile, your teenage kidsare getting discipled by demons
(22:16):
by their ipad in their room.
You can't lock down the ownborders of your own house.
You're toast bro.
Bro, be watchful, wake up.
And what's crazy about that isyou actually feel virtuous
because you have godly opinionsabout things that you have zero
(22:38):
influence over?
Right, okay, like, whatever, pick one that there should be no
debate on if you're a Christian, okay, so you've got a godly
opinion about the right to life.
You know what I mean?
Okay, like, whatever, pick onethat there's should be no debate
on if you're a christian.
Okay, so you've got.
You got a godly opinion aboutthe right to life.
You know what I mean, sure, andso you're yelling at the tv
about that.
But you're not doing anythingto train your children up on how
to honor one another and you'reletting them be discipled by
(23:00):
tiktok or disney.
That, okay, you gotta wake up,man.
The devil's gonna eat yourlunch.
That's what I mean is?
Chris Grainger (23:09):
is that kind of
like directly tied to spiritual
passivity?
Because I mean, I see so manyguys are just passive in this
area, man, they just want tocompletely outsource it to a
pastor or a youth pastor, orthink that you can check that
box about one hour on a sundayand it's like no bro, like this
is your job yeah, I think, meanI say this in the book a bunch.
Pastor Joby Martin (23:30):
I heard of
the Scottish proverb while I was
in Scotland for every mile ofroad there's two miles of ditch.
So the two ways you can getthis thing wrong.
The Bible says this is what itmeans to be a man to be watchful
, stand firm in the faith, actlike men, be strong.
Let all you do be done in love.
Okay, that's what it means Bendyour knee to Jesus, have the
Spirit of God fill you and thenfollow in his footsteps.
(23:53):
That's how to be a man.
One ditch is abdication.
That's what Adam did.
There's a freaking snaketalking to your wife, bro Stomp
its head, but he stands theresilent.
But then the other ditch andhonestly, chris, my guess is a
lot of your listeners are goingto have a tendency to fall into
(24:14):
this one, and it's just to beoverly aggressive in external
ways but not embody thecharacter nature of christ.
Like you, like I think oh, I'ma man because I drive a harley
and I got muscles and got atattoo and I got more guns than
I have fingers.
That does not make you a man, Imean, it makes you awesome, but
not a man.
(24:35):
And so what we're not trying todo is have dudes just beat their
chest and, you know, kind ofandrew tate and stand up and and
abuse people or commodify otherpeople.
But it's to be like Christ, tobe servants, to be prophet,
priest, servant, king, providerand protector.
(24:56):
This is what the Scripturescall us to, and so some people
are.
You know, they abdicate theirresponsibility, kind of like
Ahab or Obadiah does in 1 Kings.
The other extreme is, honestly,to be like Jezebel and try to
manipulate other people by yourstrength to get what you want.
Neither of these are godly.
(25:17):
We are called to walk in theHoly Spirit, which is to bend
your knee to Christ and act likehim.
Amen, amen.
Need of Christ and act like him, amen.
Chris Grainger (25:26):
Amen.
Well, I'm curious, too, onething when I was working through
the book and thinking somethingthat you just called out and
maybe this will resonate withsome of the guys that are
listening but for the longesttime I struggled thinking that I
needed to be a five-talent guy.
Like I got to be a five-talentguy, I want to be a five-talent
guy.
Like I got to be a five-talentguy, I want to be a five-talent
(25:47):
guy.
And I diminished the two-talentguy.
And then God, I was actually inthe woods and God revealed to
me like hey, you're a two-talentguy and I just I'm kind of I'm
good with that now, but I feellike so many guys, they would
not accept being a two-talentguy.
Being a two-talent guy, I don'tknow.
Pastor Joby Martin (26:08):
What's your
reflection on that?
I think the two-talent guy isactually the hero of the story
because he spends zero timecomparing himself to either the
one or five-talent guy.
He just does what the mastertells him to do and he receives
the same reward as thefive-talent guy.
Well done, good and faithfulservant, enter into the joy of
your master.
And so, honestly, I don't thinkyou know, until you get to the
(26:33):
throne room, I don't know.
I refuse to be a one talent guy.
I'm not going to take whatGod's given me and hide it and
be and be ruled by fear.
But, dude, I don't know, causeyou know, I think we should
spend zero time comparing whatGod is doing in our life to
anybody else, because the masterin that parable spends zero
(26:54):
time comparing them to oneanother.
He only holds them accountableto what he told them to do.
So that's going to be me andyou, man.
We're going to stand before ourmaker and he's not going to
compare me and you to oneanother, he's just going to one.
We get the imputedrighteousness of Christ.
So we get the well-done, goodand faithful servant, not
(27:14):
because of anything that we havedone, but because of what
Christ has done for us.
But there is a second judgmentwhere every word that we speak
we're held accountable for andevery good and godly thing we're
rewarded for, and so thatmatters, like what we do on this
planet matters.
Chris Grainger (27:33):
That's wild.
Like you mentioned, dr Paul is91, but my mentor is 86.
Young man and we meet everyweek and he reminds me every
week about the Bema Seat.
He's like, hey, this is a bigdeal.
He's like preachers ain'ttalking about this.
Now, you talk about stuff likethat a lot, but very rarely are
they talking about the beam ofseed of judgment.
(27:54):
And I just think that's a goodfor me, it's a good reframe and
a good reminder that, yeah, man, what we do here matters, it's
not just going to be forgot.
Pastor Joby Martin (28:02):
Here's how I
, on my best days, here's how I
try to make decisions, okay, Imean, unless the scripture
explicitly says it.
Oftentimes, you know, there's athere can be a little bit of
ambiguity about do I turn left,do I turn right?
You know, do we plan a campushere or there?
Or if I'm this has happened somany times I'm standing in
(28:25):
Walmart in line and I don't knowhow to explain it.
I just feel this nudge.
Talk to the person in front ofyou.
All right, is that from God ornot from God?
I don't know.
How do you know?
You can make some stuff up.
So then I imagine one day I'mgoing to stand before the great
white throne of judgment andlet's just say I made that up
(28:45):
and I'm giving an account for mylife, and god's like I didn't
tell you to talk to that guy inwalmart and I go okay, well, I
thought you might have.
So, my bad, I think I'm stillgood.
Yeah, right, right, but what Irefuse to do is he go.
Why didn't you talk to the guyin walmart?
Man?
You know, I told you to.
So, as long as it's inalignment with the scriptures,
(29:11):
on my best days, when I feel anudge of the Holy Spirit.
I just want to do what he tellsme to do, and if I'm not sure,
I think about it that way.
What story do I want to tellGod one day when I'm giving an
account for my life?
Chris Grainger (29:28):
Yeah, you know,
we worked together, I think
three years ago.
Now, that's what you left mewith and that has probably been
the biggest impact Cause I askedyou.
I'm sure you don't remember, but you were just like.
It's very simple Do whatever hetells you to do, and that yeah.
And I've.
I have poured that into so manyother guys now and I give you
(29:48):
credit Most of the time.
I always give back to PastorJoe because it's like this is it
?
Just simply take the step ofobedience.
Quit being passive.
If you get the nudge, if you'rewrong, you're wrong, but I'd
rather just make that mistakeand clear it up in heaven.
Pastor Joby Martin (30:04):
Well, think
about the number of miracles
Like if you you know, I did abook on miracles and as I was
studying that for that one, themajority of the New Testament
miracles are accompanied by anact of faith by the recipient of
the miracle.
Right like the four dudes haveto carry the guy to the house
and tear a hole in the roof, thewoman with the issue of blood
(30:25):
fights through the crowd, theJohn 9, the blind guy goes and
washes his face.
In the book of Acts, peter andJohn are on their way to the
temple.
The guy asks for money andPeter very famously says Silver
and gold have I?
None, but what I have I give toyou In the name of Jesus Christ
of Nazareth, arise and walk.
But he didn't arise when he saidit.
Then the Bible says he reachedout his hand to the man, then
(30:54):
his ankles were strengthened andhe stood up.
See, so faith is acting as ifyou actually believe that God is
faithful to his promises.
So I wonder how many miraclesare still sitting on the
sidewalk because people didn'tdo what God told them to do?
Or in John chapter two, theyrun out of wine at the wedding
(31:14):
of Cana and Mary gathers theservants together and says well,
you just quoted, do whatever hetells you to do.
Well, the next four things hetold him to do make no sense in
the natural.
Chris Grainger (31:22):
None.
Pastor Joby Martin (31:24):
And yet
we're still talking about that
miracle.
And so in 2012, when my lead, when my senior pastor, jerry
Sweat, says I think it's time toplant a church, with you as the
senior pastor, I don't make nosense.
Jacksonville's got so manychurches, man, and little did we
know that all of this hung inthe balance of just putting our
(31:47):
yes on the table 13 years ago.
Yeah, man, so that's it.
That's part of what it means tobe a man is to stand firm in
the faith.
See the opposite.
I've talked about this all thetime.
The opposite of faith is notdoubt.
If you've got doubts andunanswered questions, cool,
follow Jesus.
But the opposite of faith isfear.
That's what happens to the onetalent guy.
(32:09):
He says I was afraid, so I wentand hid what you gave me.
And Jesus calls him wicked andslothful, because faith produces
action, fear paralyzes.
That's the difference.
Faith is looking into thefuture and believing that God is
in control.
Fear is looking into the futureand believing that God is in
control.
Fear is looking into the futureand only seeing your
circumstances.
That's the difference.
(32:31):
So Charles Stanley used to saysomething like fate is if God
tells you to run your headthrough that brick wall.
You better start running andtrust him for the whole.
Chris Grainger (32:42):
That's fate,
that's it, that's it Well in
preparing for this.
So we you know the Lion we'vebuilt some pretty cool things
since we started several yearsago.
And I always ask our guys I'mlike, look, I'm getting ready to
meet with Pastor Joby, what doyou want me to ask him?
And one of these questions is,I feel like just it's a good
(33:02):
time to ask it because this guyis struggling.
And he was like, hey, you wantto know, pastor Joby, what do
you do when you sought God's?
Will you pray?
You guess you go and thingsjust seem hard and like you're
making no progress.
Like what would you?
How would you answer?
Pastor Joby Martin (33:17):
that guy?
Well, I w well.
Where in the world did you comeup with the idea that easy
equals his will?
I mean, show me one place inthe Bible where it was easy.
So he's sovereign, he's incharge, and I mean all over the
(33:39):
scriptures.
Right, joseph?
He's doing God's will.
God gives him a vision, heshares it with his brothers.
He gets beaten up, gets soldinto slavery, gets accused of a
crime that he didn't commit, gets forgotten in prison.
So does that look like God'swill?
Is God into human traffickingand domestic violence and false
imprisonment and forgettingpeople?
And yet we all know.
(34:01):
By the end of it he says to hisbrothers am I not in the place
of God?
What you intended for evil?
God intended for good?
Or the place?
The place is.
You got to look at the cross, like all right, if you didn't
know the end of the events, allright.
And you're standing at the footof Golgotha 2,000 years ago on
(34:23):
Good Friday and there's the Sonof God dead.
Wouldn't you think God has lostcontrol?
Like all right, lord, if it'syour will, then why didn't you
open the door, right?
I mean, jesus asked this in theGarden of Gethsemane.
Father, if there be any otherway.
Let this cup pass from me, notmy will, but thy will be done
(34:44):
okay.
And we know this has been theultimate plan from before the
beginning.
So if you seek God's will andyou pursue him and you do what
he says, one if you're wrongabout it, just trust he'll send
a big fish to swallow you up andpuke you out wherever you need
to be.
Anyway, right, and God is incontrol and he is at work in all
(35:09):
things for the good of those, for the good of those that love
him and are called according tohis purpose.
So if it ain't good, he's notdone.
That's what you have to see.
And listen, man.
Sometimes it goes good.
Read Hebrews.
Hebrews is like, hey, man, forsome people it was awesome.
Some people got their children, were brought back to life and
(35:30):
they shut the mouths of lions, and some people trampled armies.
And then there's not even like, there's not even a period and a
new sentence, and it's like andsome were sawn in two, some
were burned at the stake andthey were.
They're all in the sameparagraph of faithfulness.
So you can't be looking at theresults, you just.
(35:53):
You gotta be trusting God withwhat he's called you to do.
Amen.
Chris Grainger (35:58):
The next
question one of our guys want to
know is he's he's got a coupleof kids and he want to know how
you taught your kids to embraceGod as their strength and
comfort, because he's trying to.
He's trying to do that in hisown home.
So any advice there for a young, young father.
How old are the kids?
Pastor Joby Martin (36:14):
These kids
are like three and five, good,
ok so attribute every goodexperience and every good thing
that they have to the heavenlyfather, like they should
associate whatever, whateverthey're into sunrise, you know,
whatever pretty weather just belike.
Look how.
Look how good god is to us,that he's a good dad, he loves
(36:39):
to give good gifts to his kidsand then then things, when
things hurt, then let him knowGod is so good he sent Jesus to
a broken world to redeem all ofthese things, that one day
there's no tears because he'sgoing to make all things new.
So it's very, very simple, youknow, the key is to try to help
(36:59):
your kids understandfundamentally that God is not
like a father, that God isfather and that he sent his son
to die for us and that he senthis spirit to live in us.
But if you understand thefather heart of God, that's when
things can begin to make moresense.
(37:21):
And I know it's an old likecliche preacher thing, so that
when you can't see his hand youcan still trust his heart.
You can trust that he's goodbecause of the cross and the
empty tomb.
Chris Grainger (37:35):
Okay, one of our
guys wanted to know have you
ever dealt with impostersyndrome?
And, if so, you know, whatwould you suggest for guys that
do struggle with this?
Sorry for the randomness.
These guys are just all overthe place with wanting to ask
some of these questions.
Pastor Joby Martin (37:55):
No, no, I
get it all the way.
Okay, imposter syndromewouldn't be the right word for
me.
I I'm overwhelmed with God'sgoodness in my life and I know I
don't deserve it, but on theother hand, there's no doubt in
(38:19):
my mind that God has appointedand anointed me for such time as
this.
So both of those things can betrue at the same time, all right
.
So years ago, like 12 years ago, we just planted the church.
It blew up real fast, got realbig, real fast and I got invited
to be around.
A bunch of seasoned pastors Me,there's about 10 of us got
(38:40):
invited to be in this group andwe were all in our thirties and
we were all pastoring whatpeople would qualify as mega
churches.
I hate, I don't love thatphrase.
I don't know who made thatphrase up so dumb.
I mean, jacksonville has almost2 million people, so if we got
30,000 people at our church,we're not even making a dent.
Man, I live in a mega lost cityanyway.
(39:00):
That's a different subject.
So these so these veteran guysare are like pouring into.
A bunch of us got big churchesand we're in our 30s.
And this guy named wayne corderahe wrote uh, leading on empty
and sifted, wrote a bunch, abunch of great books, pastor's a
great church in hawaii.
So we were at his.
(39:21):
He's got a house in oregon.
We were at his house in Oregonand at the break he started
asking me about 1122.
And I didn't want to boast inmyself or anything, so I just
kind of hemmed and hawed and belike you know, I'm just a
redneck from Dillon, I don'tknow what I'm doing.
We just got an old countrychurch in Walmart, you know.
And he put his hand on myshoulder and he quoted second
(39:43):
Samuel five, 12.
Here's what it said and Davidknew that the Lord had
established him King over Israeland that he had exalted his
kingdom for the sake of thepeople of Israel.
So David knew that God decidedDavid would be King and it
wasn't for David's sake, it wasfor the sake of the glory of God
(40:06):
by serving the people, amen.
Then he puts his hand on myshoulder and he said don't ever
apologize for the Lord'sanointing, just walk in it.
And that's it.
So I can take credit for this, you know.
But I also know that this iswhat God has called me to do.
Chris Grainger (40:26):
Right.
Pastor Joby Martin (40:27):
And so I
work real hard, I prepare and I
just do what he's called me todo.
And you know, when God uses youfor something so much bigger
than yourself, you know, like Isaid in the grace train man,
when a mosquito grabs hold of afreight train, the mosquito does
not feel bigger, it's justholding on for dear life.
(40:50):
I'm just holding on for dearlife.
But when I'm leading our teamsor when I'm standing up there
preaching, I also know that Ididn't pick me for this.
God picked me for this.
So it can be an affront againstGod if you don't believe the
calling that he has on your life.
So again, Wayne Cordera saidnever apologize for the
(41:12):
anointing, Just walk in it.
Amen.
Chris Grainger (41:16):
Love it.
One of our guys is actuallyparalyzed from neck down and he
shows up to our meetings.
I mean, he works his iPad, he'sgot these glasses he can work
his iPad with, and stuff likethat.
He's all in for the gospel.
He actually does prisonministry.
You can probably appreciatethat.
He goes and shares his storyand his testimony with guys.
He had a question, though, thathe was hoping to get your
(41:40):
insight on, and he was like hey,I'm trying to do the right
stuff.
I'm feeling pretty distant fromGod.
Um, when you, what do you dowhen you feel like you aren't
being filled with the HolySpirit, you don't have any peace
and you just can't find the joy.
What do you tell guys in thosemoments?
Cause that's where he's beenstruggling a lot lately.
Pastor Joby Martin (42:00):
Well, some
of that language matters, okay.
That's where he's beenstruggling a lot lately.
Well, some of that languagematters, okay.
So, uh, the the bible tells usthat when he put his faith in
jesus christ, he was filled withthe holy spirit.
He was immersed in the holyspirit that.
So he doesn't need any morespirit he needs.
The question is, does thespirit have all of him?
And, uh, hebrews tells us thatwe should.
(42:25):
You know, we should fix oureyes on jesus, the author and
the perfecter of our fate.
So what are you need to do?
The things in your life thatstir your affections for the
lord.
That's going to be somecombination of god's presence,
god's people and god's, god'sword.
All right, so are you doingthese things?
You could also look at John 15,where Jesus says abide in me
(42:46):
and I'll abide in you.
Apart from me, you can donothing.
And it's almost like thedisciples are looking at him
side-eyed like how do we do that?
And he goes abide in my wordand I will abide in you.
James 4, 8, was this incrediblepromise draw near to me and I
(43:10):
will draw near to you.
But it will never be enough tojust do the things that stir
your affection.
Hebrews says that we need tothrow off anything that hinders
and and lay aside the sin thatentangles.
So, if there's, because thesethings are going to kill your
affections and relationship withthe Lord.
But he gives two categoriesthere.
Some things aren't sinful, they're just stupid.
So the number of people I hearsay the same kind of thing, I
(43:32):
just hadn't felt the Lord in awhile.
I'm like, yeah, but you've beenon Instagram for like seven
hours today, right, those thingsare going to have a hard time
coexisting and so, make sureanything that hinders your walk
with him you should get rid ofit for a season or maybe forever
, and for sure you should askGod to reveal to you any sin
(43:54):
that is separating you from himemotionally.
But then, in addition to that, you've also got to do the things
that stir your affections forthe Lord.
And again, that's a combinationof God's presence.
That's like corporate worship,corporate prayer.
This is why going to churchmatters so much.
This is why we should nevergive up on gathering together
(44:15):
with the saints, right, becauseGod's presence manifests
differently than hisomnipresence, like the Bible
says that God inhabits thepraises of his people, those
kinds of things.
So there's God's presence.
There's God's people.
You need some other brothersSometimes, when I mean, think
about this man, mark chapter two.
Dude's on the mat, his fourbuddies pick him up, carry him
(44:38):
into Jesus.
This kind of messed with yourtheology a little bit.
The Bible says that Jesus seesthe faith of the friends and
looks at the dude on the mat andsays your sins are forgiven.
Have you surrounded yourselfwith the kind of men when you
need to borrow some of theirfaith?
They've got so much thatthey've got enough to lend out.
Does that make sense?
(44:58):
Amen.
So you need some God's people, like some of it could be
shoulder to shoulder on mission.
Some of it needs to be face toface, like sharpening one
another.
And then there's got to beGod's word.
I just don't know the personthat's in a deep, abiding walk
with Jesus that does not lovethe word of God.
That's all in on the word ofGod, amen.
(45:21):
And then also man.
It's a relationship with theLord, just like every
relationship.
I've been married to Gretchenfor 25 years.
Sometimes we feel so close.
I think we can like think eachother's thoughts.
Sometimes we walk by thehallway, we don't even look at
each other because you know,it's kind of dry, and so your
current feelings about arelationship do not determine
(45:44):
not a godly relationship,because you've made a covenant
with that person.
Well, god made a covenant withyou and so, regardless of what
you feel like, he's as close asyou will.
Let him be.
Chris Grainger (45:59):
Amen.
Well, thank you for that, pastor Joe.
The last one from our guys, kind of a little bit of a
lighter one to end with withtheir questions, is what's your
latest tattoo and what's thenext one on your wish list?
Pastor Joby Martin (46:13):
We were, I
think, my last one.
I got a big shirt on right now,but I got the God's hand
touching Adam's finger, like atthe top of the Sistine Chapel.
So Gretchen and I were in Romea couple months ago and yeah, so
I got that just to remind me ofthat trip.
(46:34):
We went to see where, like youknow, peter was in prison and
Paul was beheaded and some ofthose kind of things, and so
while in Rome, I got that onejust to remind me of God's
outstretched hand towards hispeople.
Yeah, it's awesome.
My next one is I got a littlebit of sleeve work to do and
(46:56):
then I think I'm going to do abig chest piece where I do a,
you know, the Trinity symbol, right, it's like three parts,
it's kind of like upside downMickey mouse ears Right, and uh,
on the bottom two I'm going todo I think I'm going to do, uh,
a clock and a compass and then acrown on the top of it, because
(47:18):
, because God is the Lord oftime and space, and I think I'm
going to do that one on my chest.
And then I got an idea for ablack and gray over here, like a
big angel shooting a bow, withPsalm 127 in it.
Chris Grainger (47:37):
No Harley ones
on the queue.
Huh, Harley tattoos yeah.
No, I just ride the harley Ihear you, bro, what's the number
one tattoo brand in the world.
So I didn't know if you uh,that was gonna be on the works
mine, most of mine are.
Pastor Joby Martin (47:54):
You know
they're about.
Most of mine are just about thelord and you know significant
things that he's done in my lifethere you go.
Chris Grainger (48:01):
That's awesome.
Well, thank you for for workingthrough those for those guys,
man, I know that's going to bebig for them and definitely
great insights, and we alwayslike to do, if you remember,
like a lightning round.
At the end, I came up with somefun ones here.
Hopefully you'll enjoy them, and we'll kind of do this before
we put the horse in the barn.
Pastor Joby Martin (48:25):
So first one
.
I think I know about going toask coffee or sweet tea, man,
coffee, coffee, black, thoughright, I just yeah, black coffee
I'm trying to.
You know, sugar will kill you, man, so I got to quit doing that
.
Chris Grainger (48:35):
That's right.
So well, I know you're fromGeorgia, but you're in Florida.
So what's the most Floridathing you've ever done, brother,
but you're in Florida.
Pastor Joby Martin (48:43):
So what's
the most Florida thing you've
ever done?
Brother, Catch an alligator.
Chris Grainger (48:48):
Really, and you
still got all ten fingers.
Pastor Joby Martin (48:53):
You must
have been pretty good at it.
Yeah, man, you know, just likethe football team, it's all
mouth.
You just tire them out a littlebit and they're not too bad.
You can tape up and take themhome.
That's a basketball school now,isn't it?
That's right.
Chris Grainger (49:05):
That's right.
Like up here in Carolina, it'sall about everybody toss back
Duke.
So the joke is like Duke's gotfootball.
So you know anyway.
Yeah.
Pastor Joby Martin (49:19):
What's the
strangest thing that's ever
happened?
Mid-sermon man, I don't.
Uh, strangest thing, mid sermon.
Um, oh, this was cool.
Uh, I don't know when this iscoming out, but when I was
teaching through, uh, the lifeof Elijah, it was a Thursday
night service and and I'm in thetext where Elijah tells or God
(49:40):
tells Elijah that the rain isgoing to turn back on, and just
then the bottom drops out andyou can hear the rain pouring
down on the roof and I'm, youknow, we got a big old
auditorium and I stopped.
I was like, is it raining?
And everybody just startedscreaming Like it was like a
special effects that we hadworked on or something.
So that that was pretty cool.
Chris Grainger (50:02):
That is pretty
cool.
Outside of Jesus, who in theBible would you like to go
fishing with first?
Pastor Joby Martin (50:11):
Definitely
not the disciples, because
there's not one account of themcatching a fish without a
miraculous touch of Jesus.
You ever notice that, right?
Yeah, they're pretty bad at it.
Let's see, I don't know Elijah.
I think I'd like to go withElijah, okay, I mean, think
(50:34):
about this.
Like he comes out of nowhere,he lives in the woods and he's
one of the few people that areboth Old and New Testament.
You know, like God used him insuch a way that John the Baptist
is said to have walked in thespirit of Elijah, and so he
seems to me to be like a.
(50:55):
I mean, he was a strong man, hewas a faithful man, but he was
a real man, struggled withdepression and, you know,
thought Jezebel was going to gethim one time, and yet God used
him in ways far beyond what heprobably thought he was capable
of.
So I'd probably want to hangout with him, amen.
Chris Grainger (51:16):
Okay, all right.
Who texts you when you look atyour phone?
Who texts you using the mostemojis right now?
Pastor Joby Martin (51:25):
The elders
of my church.
Okay, old old guys, dude, oldguys love some emojis, like
everything they send.
It's like praise hands, praisehands, fire, fire, cross, purple
bible, purple bible, like youknow, just yeah they, they text
to be an emoji all right.
Chris Grainger (51:44):
Well, I didn't
see that answer coming, it threw
me off.
So, uh, what's one of the I'mthe worst I'm the worst texter,
bro.
Pastor Joby Martin (51:51):
I'm like my
people send a real long thing
and I give them the old poop ormaybe a k.
I'll hit them with a k.
I'm the worst I currently have.
Let me look right here.
If you ever, when you text meand I'll text you back, it's
because, as we speak, I have 802unread texts just a few few,
(52:11):
just a few.
Chris Grainger (52:15):
It's crazy when
you think about Reagan and JP,
what's the funniest thing theyhave ever said about your
preaching?
You think back.
Have they ever said anythingfunny about one of your sermons?
Pastor Joby Martin (52:26):
Oh my gosh,
I don't know.
I don't know what that would bewhatsoever.
I'm just glad they're sittingon the front row taking notes
these days.
Amen to that.
Chris Grainger (52:37):
So they, you
know, oh, here it is.
Pastor Joby Martin (52:39):
I remember
years ago, when they were a
little bit younger, I was like Iwas just checking to make sure
they were kind of getting theage where I felt like I wanted
to check in with them if I wasgoing to use them as a sermon
illustration.
You know, and it's probably JP,he's kind of more of a wheeler
dealer and so we had worked itout If I use him as an
(53:00):
illustration, I owe him $5, youknow.
And then about three weekslater JP's like hey, man, what
gives?
We make this deal and youhaven't brought me up one time,
so can you throw me in there acouple times so I can make some
lunch money.
There you go it didn't make thempay attention I mean, they were
(53:21):
only listening for their ownname but it did make them pay
attention.
Chris Grainger (53:24):
Hey, whatever it
takes to get them locked in,
you know so that's it.
I was thinking about thisquestion because I was thinking
about my buddy, Al at Unashamed.
I think he went down there andgot to meet Phil before he
passed as well.
What great people.
But they made their movie.
So if they were to make a movieabout 1122, who would you want
to play?
Joby Martin.
Pastor Joby Martin (53:49):
There you go
.
But did you see that?
Not because I'm good looking, but you know that one about the
the dragon.
Did you see him in that onewhen he grew the big beard and
had?
The face tattoo yeah and he wasbald.
Yeah, that version, thatversion, not the big flowing
hair, no, no, no, that that, like whatever that dragon movie
was, and the accent would beclose enough, you know right,
(54:12):
right, there you go, there yougo, all right.
Chris Grainger (54:15):
How about, uh, a
book that's had the most
influence on you outside thebible?
You've named a couple alreadytoday, but, uh, anything that
just jumped to the top of yourhead oh gosh, there's a lot.
Pastor Joby Martin (54:28):
Um, I reread
mere Christianity every year.
I felt like there's some newstuff there, that that that'd
probably be the one.
Maybe Piper's don't waste yourlife.
That's another life changingmessage.
There was a bunch of us when we, you know, we were all about 20
years old, when we were 25years old, when I heard that and
(54:50):
it, that really made adifference Right there.
Chris Grainger (54:53):
There you go
Right there, that's it.
Pastor Joby Martin (54:55):
That's it.
I don't get to read nearly asmuch as I want to, though,
because Thursday comes with anamazing regularity, so I'm
usually cramming everything Ican read about the next, like
the upcoming sermon.
Does that make sense.
Chris Grainger (55:16):
It does, it does
All right.
So let's just do like, let's dotwo more.
So let's see what's the mostunderrated fast food restaurant
in your opinion?
Pastor Joby Martin (55:30):
Jimmy John's
Okay.
Chris Grainger (55:37):
Didn't see that
one coming Fresh and fast.
It takes no time to get it.
You know that's it, that's it,that's it.
How about the most?
Uh, what is your most used?
Because you got a lot of thesejobisms out there now like, yeah
, I mean it's, you're kind ofracking them up.
What's the most used phrasethat your church staff uses the
most?
Maybe they they pick on youwith uh, you're too dumb to talk
to.
Probably that one yeah, I doenjoy when you say when you
(56:00):
throw that one out, yeah, that'sit.
Pastor Joby Martin (56:04):
That's I
don't.
I don't intend to do that man.
I just grew up in a countryfamily.
This is how country people talk.
You know what I mean, hey man.
Chris Grainger (56:11):
I mean I grew up
just just north of you, I mean
you're in dillon's.
I was just above the virginialine, right on the carolina line
yeah so, uh, I get it smalltown.
You know, when I go, when Iride by dillon, I I get, I sense
where you, where you're comingfrom yeah, don't, don't pull
over, it'll get on you, that'sright, that's right.
What do you hope you guysremember the most from our
(56:32):
conversation, joey, and alsoremember you know, get, get the
most from you, from uh, standfirm and act like men.
What do you hope the theparting message would be for?
Pastor Joby Martin (56:41):
I hope
they'll know jesus better.
I mean, that's all.
The only reason I'd exist isthat the people will know jesus,
and if they decide to pick upthe book, I mean I hope they
will.
One of the things that makesthis book different is there's a
lot of great men's books outthere, but most of them are you
know.
It's like 10 rules to be a man,and some very, very smart
(57:04):
person kind of made it up.
All I do in this book is justunpack what the Bible says a man
is supposed to do and be.
So these are not.
They're my illustrations andthey're some of my personal
stories.
These are not my ideas.
This is just what the Biblesays, and if you tether your
(57:30):
life to some podcaster or youtether your life to you know
eight rules to be a better man,it's going to be pretty shaky.
But if you tether your life tothe authoritative word of God,
then, with the word of God aboveyou as your authority and the
spirit of God in you driving you, god will use it like a hammer
and a chisel to chisel outeverything in you that doesn't
look like his son Jesus, and sothis book is just to help you do
(57:53):
that.
Chris Grainger (57:56):
Where do you
want to send them?
Where can they get it?
Get the copy.
What benefits 1122 the most?
Pastor Joby Martin (58:02):
You can get
it anywhere.
You can go to joebremartincomand get it, you can get it at
Amazon all the places you canget books.
And one of the things about Iam primarily a pastor, not
primarily an author, and um, soall I'm going to do is give my
time to disciple, making efforts, amen.
So, um, you know, I'vestructured this thing in such a
(58:26):
way that you can get it at apretty good price and, you know,
if, for some reason, you had alistener that couldn't even
afford the whatever it costs, then let me know, we'll get one
in your hands.
Chris Grainger (58:37):
Amen.
Well, I also just want to justthank you.
You know, just kind of goofficially on the record, if you
will.
You had a massive influence onme, the line within us, a lot of
our guys.
You know, you took the time andyou and your team.
We have our first book comingout and, uh, you wrote the
(58:59):
forward forward and it's just uh, you know, but god, I mean, I
don't understand it, but I justwant you to know the work you're
doing matters and I know, andthey get a lot, of, a lot of
heat when you're in a positionthat you're in sometimes.
But uh, we love you, I love youand just praying for you and
your family each and every weekand, uh, just want to continue
to be an encouragement to youthanks, brother, thanks for all
that you're doing.
Pastor Joby Martin (59:14):
Man, just be
faithful, uh, just like you are
.
I pray that.
I pray that ankle heals upreally, really quick and I pray
that you learn a dependence onthe father like you haven't
learned before, because I knowyou're an independent guy that
likes to get it done.
But maybe you'll be able toslow down just enough.
Maybe you'll be able to allowsome other people to help you
(59:38):
and you'll understand.
Now You'll understand God notjust as Father and King and
Creator, but also as Healer.
Chris Grainger (59:44):
Amen, amen that
was funny.
I was with my surgeon the otherday and she said 10 weeks.
And my wife's doing the math, she's like you leave for jobe in
10 weeks.
I'm like, hey, I'm gonna be,I'm gonna be there.

be there, we'll make it happen.
