SPEAKER_00 (01:43):
Welcome to The Line Within Us, a podcast serving
Christian men who are hungry tobe the leaders God intends you
to be.
I'm your host, Chris Granger.
Let's jump in.
All right, fellas, it's yourspiritual kickoff episode of the
week, and it's Thanksgivingweek.
So I'm super pumped to be herewith you.
A little bit different scripturefor Thanksgiving, but uh hang
with me.
Hopefully it'll make sense herein a little bit.
James chapter one, verses twoand three.

(02:06):
Consider it all joy, my brothersand sisters, when you encounter
various trials, knowing that thetesting of your faith produces
endurance.
I love those verses, guys.
They happen to be my lifeverses, and I recognize I had
never done a SKO on theseverses.
And I'm picking, choosingThanksgiving week for a reason.

(02:29):
So we'll we'll talk about it aswe go.
But for the SKO, we're gonnafocus on God's Word.
That's really what we're gonnabe focusing on.
I'll tell you more about what'scoming up on the next for the
meet episode this week, heretowards the end.
But for this, for this rightnow, let's just focus on the
word and see how we can simplifyand apply it to our life.
That's what it's all about.
That's what the lying is allabout.

(02:51):
So again, guys, this is um theseverses mean so much to me.
And we need to first of all knowwhere they're at.
They're in the New Testament.
James is in the New Testament,he's a half-brother of Jesus.
It's after Hebrews, it's before1 Peter.
That's where you're gonna findit, okay?
And again, if you enjoy thespiritual kickoff episodes each
week on the podcast, we do themMonday through Friday in our

(03:12):
community for free, live.
You can hop on with me directly.
We're reading God's word, we'reunpacking God's word.
If you can't make the livefeeds, we put them out in a
recording format when we'redone.
And it's all free, guys.
It's the way we just try toencourage you, open it up to
you.
It's called the daily spiritualkickoff.
So head over to thelionwithin.us.
Right there, you'll see thedaily spiritual kickoffs at the

(03:33):
top of the screen.
Click that and get started,okay?
So now, these verses.
Crazy.
Because how are we supposed tofind joy in the storm?
And I mean, it's Thanksgivingweek.
Everybody's is excited, everybody is thinking about
gratitude and reflecting andfamily.
But can I just be real?
Sometimes giving thanks is hardand can feel impossible.

(03:58):
Maybe when life hits you hard, maybe you get your health hits
or finances are crumbling, oryou just have a fractured
relationships, or man, the worstof all, maybe you're mourning
someone who isn't sitting at thetable this year.
In those moments, it's hard tobe grateful.
I'm just being honest.
But this verse is the verse thatGod gave me as my life verse.

(04:21):
I used to think it was a crueljoke.
Like, really, God, seriously?
Uh, this one?
But he's like, yeah, man, consider all joy when you can
encounter various trials.
And uh trying to find joy inthat.
But I can tell you with withfull conviction, this verse has
been proven to be true to meover and over and over more than

(04:45):
anything in the Bible.
And uh I'm gonna unpack thisweek why I mean that.
But for for right now, lookingback, I can recognize that the
growth that I've that I've everhad happens in the middle of the
grind in the hard seasons oflife.
For me personally, walkingthrough a divorce, losing my

(05:08):
daughter, and we're gonna betalking about it more, but
literally having my anklecompletely almost knocked off my
foot altogether.
It's crazy.
Those were the moments thattested everything I claimed to
believe.
And you know what?
Those were the moments where Igrew the most.
It's through those storms thatGod stripped away any illusion I

(05:30):
had of control and forced me tofully rely on him.
And every time I hit the bottom, man, he was there.
He is steady, he is faithful,he's strong.
And the only hope I can offeryou right now is through the
testing of your faith, that'swhen we really grow.
Because let's just be honest, boys, if it's always cupcakes

(05:50):
and rainbows, you wouldn't needany faith.
Anybody can be thankful wheneverything's working out.
You have enough money for theend of the month, and your wife
aren't fighting, your kids areobeying, you know, your things
are going good at work, it'seasy to be faithful there.
But when you're in the middle ofthe storm and things are coming
at you faster and you can takethem, man, I'm gonna tell you

(06:11):
what that's where you're gonnafigure out if you're gonna be
able to stand.
And we're not unless it's builton Christ.
And James throws out this word,I just think it's super
interesting.
Endurance.
He says it's gonna produceendurance.
And think about that.
Endurance is not passive, it'snot a soft word.
It's built through resistance,right?
You don't develop endurance bysitting on a couch eating

(06:34):
Doritos, right?
Just don't.
You build endurance by pushingthrough something hard.
So if you want, maybe you'veever ran like a 5K or a
marathon, or you've ever done aMurph, or you got a really tough
workout that makes you questionyour sanity, that endurance is
how showing up over and over andover gets you to a point where
you can complete that stuff,right?

(06:55):
Well, it's the same principlewith your faith.
Spiritual endurance is builtthrough testing.
Every trial that we face is anopportunity to spiritually grow
stronger, to have a deeper trustin God that can't be shaken by
circumstances becausecircumstances change, guys.
They just do.
So life's gonna come at youhard.
And it's tempting to say, whyme?

(07:18):
Let's just be real.
I better reframe.
Sorry, Lord, what are youbuilding?
What are you building in me?
Because that's gonna help youredirect it.
And if you're in a trial rightnow going into Thanksgiving,
man, I am so sorry.
That sucks.
Can I just say that?
That just sucks.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry that it's not workingout the way you hoped it would.

(07:41):
But I'm praying you hear notjust my words, but well, not
just my voice rather, but thewords that matter from God's
word.
Man, you're not being punished,bro.
You're being refined, you'rebeing sharpened, you're being
strengthened, and your faith isgrowing right now in this
season, even though it doesn'tfeel like it by leaps and

(08:02):
bounds.
And that's worth being thankfulfor.
Because God uses your pain toproduce endurance.
We see it.
James tells us this directly.
And that endurance producesstrength, right?
And that strength helps shapeyour testimony.
And then other people are gonnasee that.
They're gonna see his goodnessworking through you.

(08:23):
So if you're a plate is fullright now, going into
Thanksgiving because your heartfeels empty, thank God, man.
Not for the trial, but for beingwith you as you go through it.
Because he's not done.
So Thanksgiving, finding joy,not look for the joy in the

(08:45):
stuff that's not easy.
But look for joy in what'seternal.
Because you're being madestronger, you're being forged.
And I want you to have a goodThanksgiving.
I do.
I want you to think about allthe good things God has given in
your life.
We're gonna give you some thingsto think about this week as you
work through Thanksgiving.
But consider it all joy.

(09:06):
No matter the situation.
Because I'm just telling you, assomeone who's gone through some
very significant trialsrecently.
And look, the next episode, themeet episode this week, I want
to unpack that trial.
So last week, if you listen tothe to the podcast, I shared
with you about a mountaintopmoment.

(09:26):
Being down at the conference inFlorida, serving alongside
Pastor Jovi, encouraging, praying, just just being a
support mechanism for 3,000 plusguys.
And then when I got home in theperiod of 12 hours, I went from
the mountaintop to the valley.
And I'm gonna unpack that forthanks for a Thanksgiving

(09:49):
episode because I've learned alot through it.
And I'm still learning stuffthrough it.
I'm still dealing with it.
But I think it's worth sharingto potentially encourage you,
particularly for you guys rightthere, right now, who are
dealing with some pretty heavystuff in life.
So our question of the week thisweek is how do you respond when
joy, uh with joy, when thosetrials hit?

(10:12):
And it's not a matter of if, butwhen they hit.
It's going to happen.
What is your response?
All right, fellas.
So look, finding joy in trialsis also only possible when we're
walking with the Lord.

(10:33):
So if you're not walking withthe Lord right now, if you've
never surrendered your life tothe Lordship of Christ, you're
missing such a greatopportunity.
Not only because you know thepromise of eternity and to be
with him and the power of theHoly Spirit, but but guys,
you'll never, if you have adesire to learn scripture and to
read God's word and tounderstand it better, you're
never going to understand it onyour own gifts and talents and

(10:55):
abilities.
You'll get to a certain levelfor sure.
But what changes the game whenit comes to understanding the
Bible and applying the Bible isthe Spirit.
Union with the Spirit.
Because that union is what'sgoing to create the relationship
that's going to reveal newthings to you as you go.

(11:16):
And if you've never made apublic profession of faith of
Jesus Christ as your Lord andSavior, today's the day.
Like take the step for today.
Call on Jesus as Lord and Saviorand let others know.
Okay?
And it starts with, first ofall, just a full submission and
understanding that you are asinner.

(11:37):
You are a sinner in need of asavior.
And then after that submissioncomes believing that Jesus is
the Son of God and thenconfessing Him as Lord.
It's that simple.
It really is that simple.
And thank for this Thanksgivingweek, I'm keeping it super
simple.
So just understand that.
We don't need someone to to tocoach us up to be better.

(11:59):
No.
You can't overcome your sin.
You need someone to step in anddo for you what you can't do for
yourself.
And thankfully, Jesus did that.
He did that for us.
He did that for you.
He did that for me.
And it's him, he's waiting rightnow for you to turn to him.
Particularly if you're in thattrial.

(12:21):
Because the only peace thatyou're ever going to find this
side of heaven comes through therelationship with Christ.
Guys, I I've lost a marriage.
I've had to hold my lifelessdaughter in my arms.
I've found myself in thehospital very recently
questioning a lot of things.
And in all those moments, Istill was able to find joy, not

(12:45):
because of the circumstances.
The circumstances all absoluteterrible.
I can find joy because of myrelationship with Christ.
That's not fake, that's notsuperficial, that's not, you
know, trying to share someprosperity message.
No.
It's just what I've experienced.
And the same could be true foryou.
But it starts with confessingHim as Lord and Savior.

(13:05):
So I simply just want to praywith you for that one guy right
now who's listening.
You're in a trial.
You don't know how you're goingto get through it.
But you know you need help, youneed support, and you're hearing
for the first time the good newsof the gospel, and you're ready
to respond.
So let's pray.
Father, I just pray for that oneguy right now who's really

(13:25):
struggling.
And thanksgiving is he doesn'thave a lot to be thankful for.
For that guy, Lord, I just prayyou just put comfort around him.
Ease his spirit.
Let him know that he is loved, that you love him, that you are
with him.
You recognize that he is in thestorm and that you're not going
to leave him.
You're not going to forsake him.
So we love you, Lord Jesus.

(13:46):
We praise you in all things, inall circumstances.
And I pray, God, that you justput a hedge protection around
this man right now.
And we pray all this accordingto your will in Christ's name.
Amen.
All right, brother.
So look, if you just acceptedChrist as your Savior, I want to
hear from you.
I want to encourage you, particularly if you're in that
trial that we talked about, sendme an email, Chris at
thelionwithin.us.

(14:08):
I'd love to hear from you.
I got some resources I'd like tosend over your way, lots of
resources that we've built tohelp guys with.
So just send me an email.
I'll get connected with you andwe'll go from there.
Okay.
So look, Wednesday's episode isgoing to be a little bit
different.
I know it's the day beforeThanksgiving, but look, this is
a story.
I share this not because it'seasy.
I share this because I try onthe lion to always just be

(14:30):
authentic, to be real, to betransparent.
I think that's why a lot of theguys enjoy it.
So I'm going to share this storywith you on Wednesday.

I've had those moments all toooften.

(15:34):

And that's why we created theI'm Just a Guy series on the
