Ever found yourself laughing through tears or inspired by a tune that seemed to speak directly to your soul? Today's episode explores the unexpected ways encouragement and humor play pivotal roles in our lives, while sharing my personal leap into the world of Christian Radio. Through the airwaves, I've discovered how music isn't just background noise—it's a vessel for divine messages that touch the heart deeply. Listen closely as I recount an unforgettable lesson in empathy, where a fast-food order becomes more than just a meal, but a tale of accountability with a side of life's unseen efforts.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey there, it's Lisa Berry.
You may not know this, butevery day on the radio I'm
trying to anticipate what you'rethinking about, what you're
dealing with, the encouragementyou might need and a little bit
of levity along the way.
I'd like to know if I'm close.
So, as you listen to today'spodcast, tell me what you like

(00:20):
and what you wish I would havetalked about, because I want
this to be a place that reallyfeeds you, encourages you and
makes you smile.
Hey, there, it's Lisa Berry.
I'm here with your medicine, and this medicine you don't need
to take with a spoon, becauseit goes through your ears, it
goes down into your heart andit's good for you.
Hey, there, it's Lisa Berry.

(00:44):
If you kind of feel like you'refalling apart and God is doing
nothing to help you, here'ssomething John Rodel wrote that
might help.
It starts with you saying heyGod, I'm falling apart.
Can you put me back together?
God says I'd rather not, butwhy?
Well, because you're not apuzzle.

(01:05):
Yeah, but what about all thepieces of my life that are
falling down to the ground?
Let them stay there for a while.
They fell off for a reason.
Take some time and decide ifyou need any of those pieces
back?
Yeah, but you don't understandI'm breaking down.
No, you don't understand.

(01:26):
You're breaking through.
What you're feeling are justgrowing pains.
You're shedding the things andthe people in your life that are
holding you back.
Just relax, take some deepbreaths, quit holding on to the
pieces that don't fit youanymore.
But I'm scared of change.
I keep telling you you aren'tchanging.

(01:48):
You're becoming Okay, butbecoming who, becoming who.
I created you to be A person oflight and love and charity and
hope and courage, joy, mercy, grace and compassion.
I love you.
Don't change, become Okay.
So then you're saying I'm notbroken.

(02:09):
No, you're not.
You're breaking like the dawn.
It's a new day.
One of my favorite stories tohear from you is how you started
listening to Christian Radio inthe first place.

(02:30):
For me it goes back to when myboyfriend broke up with me and I
was so sad.
I would crank up top 40 radioin the car and it was like I was
hoping for some sort of a signover the radio that the
relationship really wasn't overfor good, and I would punch the
button on the radio console andI'd tell myself that whatever

(02:52):
song came on next wasprovidential, like some secret
glimpse into the future.
It was like a musical magiceight ball and it usually didn't
end very well.
At the same time I started myspiritual journey and my old
friends didn't really want tohang out with me anymore because
I was kind of a killjoy andparties and drinking just

(03:13):
weren't doing it for me.
So I started hanging aroundwith these church kids who were
nothing like me, but they werethe ones who told me about
Christian Radio and I listenedand my soul just seemed to drink
it up.
I guess it was thirsty from allthat crying.
I remember a song coming onPraise the Lord, he can work

(03:35):
through those who praise him.
Wow, I felt goosebumps.
It had been a long time since Ifelt those.
And then a song came on Carryme, carry me, carry me now, I'm
too weak and fragile to walk onmy own.
I thought that's exactly what Iwas feeling.
This was wild.
Do you realize?
Music is the only thing on thisearth whose sole purpose is to

(03:57):
give you joy and self-expression.
God sings to you and you replyback.
God is a lot he wants to say toyou in the most beautiful
sentences you've ever heard.
I'm so glad you found ChristianRadio.
Okay, I told you my story.
Would you tell me yours?
888-311, lisa, have you everbeen so frustrated?

(04:25):
You were like on the verge ofdoing something that could get
you on the news.
I have.
In fact, I have dreams about itperiodically where I'm so mad
and I do something horrible.
There is a woman who ordered aburrito bowl at Chipotle.
Something wasn't right about it.

(04:47):
She threw the burrito bowl inthe face of an employee.
Well, the woman who lost hertemper is Rosemary and she got
charged with a misdemeanorassault.
So she goes to court and thereis Judge Gilligan.
He said okay, you can eitherspend 90 days behind bars or you

(05:13):
can spend 30 days in jail, along with 60 days of mandatory
service as a fast food workerand learn how people should
treat other people.
She said, yes, she would serveat the restaurant.
You know I'm thankful everytime I hear a story like that,
because that could be me.

(05:33):
Hey there, lisa Berry, Ifyou're working hard day in and
day out and hardly anybodynotices, I see you.
It's funny how when you're threeyears old and you color outside
the lines, you get gold starsfor that.
When you're 10 and you get agoal, then you get taken out for

(05:53):
ice cream, but years later, when you're working hard as a
mom and at the office, nobodyapplauds you.
In fact, more often than not, they notice when you don't
measure up, not when you do.
I'll never forget the day Ifelt that way and it seemed like
God was asking me Lisa, can yoube faithful even if nobody

(06:16):
applauds?
I'd never thought that before.
I thought, yeah, yeah, I can dothat, because even when nobody
applauds, you're hard work.
God is always applauding andhopefully that's enough.
You know why sometimes life iscomplicated.

(06:41):
I think because you can't walkaway from you.
You have to forgive everymistake.
You have to deal with everyflaw.
You have to find a way to loveyou, even when you're disgusted
with you.
I'm curious to know what's askill you don't have and yet you
have to use it every day.
Hey, there, it's Lisa Berry.
For me it's cooking.

(07:01):
I'm so bad.
I'm just so bad.
I always try to learn newthings, so I tried to make beef
Wellington for some guests theother night.
I know, I know that wasprobably too advanced for me to
try, but if you're not familiarwith it, beef Wellington is a
beef filet that is wrapped in apastry and is supposed to be all

(07:23):
the rage.
Well, things didn't go rightand my pastry dough rose too
high and my husband cooked themeat and he didn't cook it
enough, so that was kind of raw.
So basically I served bloodybread to my guests.
I have a fresh appreciation ofyou For those things that are
required of you every day andyou really don't have the

(07:46):
bandwidth for it.
You get it done.
I'm proud of you.
I ran across an old yearbook theother day.
Did you ever go through andread what people wrote there?
It's Lisa Berry.
One thing that was all over.
It was like never change.
Can you imagine what if wenever changed from high school?

(08:09):
Oh, good heavens, the worldwould not be ready for that.
But if we want to follow Jesus,we are never staying the same.
There is never neutral.
We're all just in this processof transformation to be more
like him.
Don't ever change.
That would not be anythingJesus would ever write in your

(08:29):
yearbook or mine.
He would be like, yes, let'schange every day.
I just love the honesty ofchildren.
Here's a mom who was trying togive her daughter all the
encouragement that she needed.

(08:50):
Here's how that went down.

Speaker 2 (08:52):
Are you smart, strong , are you brave, are you pretty,
are you kind?
Not really.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
When it comes to your mental health, what is best?
These are all important, buthow do they rank in importance
for your mental health?
Is it sleep, is it exercise oris it eating right?
I thought it was going to beexercise, but I was wrong.
The most important is gettingquality sleep.
I suppose if you're exercisingand you've only gotten two hours

(09:27):
of sleep, you're still going tobe bummed.
So quality sleep is first, thenexercising, then eating more
raw fruits and vegetables.
We're supposed to think ofthose as the three-legged stool.
Do you know that God alwayswants to give you what you need?
Unfortunately, you and I oftenjust think it should be

(09:49):
encouragement afterencouragement, and he likes to
do that.
But sometimes we needcompassion and other times we
need to kick in the pants andit's all important.
How did you start listening toChristian Radio?
What were the circumstances?
I would love to know.

(10:09):
888-311 Lisa Hi.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
Lisa, this is Peggy.
Hi, Peggy.
I actually found Jesus throughthe airwaves.
In my late teens I was dating aguy who was not good for me.
We were not good for each otherand Jesus was nowhere in our
relationship.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Yeah, like so many.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
He lived in South Florida, a good three, four
hours away from where I lived, and yet I would find myself
driving down there at his secondcall to meet his needs and
definitely sacrificed my own, where he was definitely not good
to me.
I remember driving down thereone evening and listening to the

(10:49):
radio and I heard a song thatI've never heard before about
love and relationship, and Ithought it was the sweetest song
, so I sent it to him.
Of course he didn't care.
He's so mean.
I come to find out later.
It wasn't a secular song, itwasn't about relationships
between two people, it was abouta relationship with Jesus.
That's too much longer.

(11:12):
After that, our relationshipwith South and I came to Jesus
and I learned exactly how Jesusloves me and my identity in
Christ.
And now I'm married to the manof my dreams who loves the Lord,
and we're starting our firstfamily.
You are congratulations.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
I love this story.
Time to wrap it up for today.
That's just a little recap ofsome of the highlights on the
show this week.
