The episode dives into personal reflections on the past year, exploring the balance between struggles and successes as we welcome the New Year. We discuss the importance of focusing on positives, learning from losses, and moving forward with intention and resilience.  I also recount a memorable bar story from the last episode, and transition to tunes, re-visit Asphalt Ballet, and talk about Shakra, a Swiss band with a nostalgic 80s hair metal vibe that’s bound to captivate. I’m eager to hear your thoughts on underrated artists.

Mike (00:10):
Alr ight, what's going on?
Everyone, happy new year.
Thank you for tuning into thisepisode of the LNBE podcast,
where LNBE stands for literallynothing but everything.
I'm Mike Rispoli and it's a newyear, new me.
Unless you're like me and youwoke up and realized, oh, I'm
just the same dumbass that I wason December 31st, so let's just

(00:32):
run it back.
But with every new year comesnew possibilities, right, when
one door closes, another dooropens, and now we're closing the
door on 2024 to embark onwhat's to come in 2025.
And I know I'm sorry I took abreak and that this podcast was

(00:52):
more inconsistent than a herpesoutbreak.
Are those inconsistent?
I actually wouldn't know.
Anybody got herpes.
64% of the global populationhas it.
So one of you degenerates islying if you're saying that you
don't.
But I am sorry that this was alittle bit inconsistent towards
the end there for a little bitand that I did take a little bit

(01:16):
of hiatus.
But the truth in the matter is,honestly, I just needed a break
.
Oh well, what could you havepossibly had going on that you
needed a break?
Oh well, what could you havepossibly had going on that you
needed a break, considering youliterally have nothing going on.
Well, let's get personal,because that's just it.
I was going through a littlebit of a funk here and honestly

(01:37):
it sucks.
Being unemployed.
Like you think it's great whenit first happens because you're
just like, oh my God, I have somuch time.
And then, the longer it happens, you're just like oh my God, I
have so much time.
What the hell actually is mylife?
And now I kind of understandwhy 75 year old Terry in

(01:58):
accounting hasn't fully retiredyet and decides to waste my time
, asks me how to open up a PDF,knowing that he'd rather annoy
me, because if he hears Barbaraask him to clean out the garage
one more time, realizing thatthat's what the rest of his life
is going to consist of, he'llcome to terms with the fact that
there actually is a use forthat loose rope and three-legged
chair that's eating up space inhis garage, because having

(02:21):
nothing but time just becomesboring and mundane, like, yeah,
I go out and I hang out withfriends and stuff, but it's
bizarre not really having asense of structure.
And with that I just kind oflost focus and felt disorganized
and the thought of having tocome on here and just do 20

(02:43):
minutes.
I'm not going to lie, it seemeddaunting because I also felt
like I just had nothing reallyto talk about.
So for me personally, I justneeded a break to reset and
refocus.
So I was like you know what, just give yourself until after
the holidays just to kind of getyour mind right.
And that's exactly what I did.

(03:04):
So here we are now.
But speaking of the holidays, Ihope everybody's holiday season
was a good one and that you allenjoyed maybe having some time
off or getting together withfriends and family, whatever it
was that you were doing.
But was it me or did it kind ofnot really feel like the
holiday season this year?
I don't know if it was justbecause Thanksgiving was so late

(03:26):
, because it was only a month of, like the Christmas spirit, but
to me it just didn't reallyfeel like that general Christmas
joy feeling, like eventelevision commercials didn't
seem to really embrace it to me.
Did Starbucks even do theirChristmas cup?
If they did, I totally missedthat.
But I don't know, am I justcrazy?

(03:48):
I can't be the only one whofelt that way, I don't know.
I think part of it for me wasalso it was just the end of the
year and I was realizing that2024 didn't really go the way
that I had in mind and I shiftedmy focus to that rather than
trying to embrace the joy ofwhat the holiday spirit was, and

(04:12):
I just kind of harbored on thenonsense.
Like it's funny because, ingeneral and I swear to God, you
can look this up that if youGoogle how many bad days you
have per year, the results varyanywhere from 30 to 60 days.
And, granted, this is alldependent on people's situations

(04:32):
, because everybody hasdifferent extenuating
circumstances or whatever it maybe.
That's at least two months, sothat's about what?
16% of the year.
So that means that about 84% ofthe year is actually pretty
frigging good.
I mean not to totally just makethis about me, but I mean, hey,

(04:53):
it is my podcast, so fuck you.
No, I'm kidding, but I don'tknow.
For me personally, I was justkind of like what the hell was
truly so bad about 2024?
Like I was thinking about thisrecently, like what was so bad
about this year?
Oh boo-hoo, another year goneby and your dating life ended

(05:15):
the same way that it startedAlone, I got laid off a couple
times, so what?
Those are just two things.
So I don't know how about.
We just think about some of thepositives of 2024?
.
Let's do some self-reflectinghere.
For starters, I started thispodcast.

(05:36):
That was something that I neverthought I had the balls to do,
but here I am.
My sister got engaged.
That's something to lookforward to.
One of my best friends gotengaged that's another thing to
look forward to.
Both of their weddings are inthe same month.
That's going to be nuts for me.
Two of my other best friends, who are married to each other,
are expecting their first child.

(05:56):
Like come on, this is someexciting shit.
Like there is so much to lookforward to in 2025.
And what did I do?
I was selfish and I thoughtabout my own issues and was just
harboring on the negatives ofwhat was 2024.
So don't be like me.
Let's flip this script around.
What's something that you guysset out to do that you actually

(06:19):
did achieve?
If you guys were in the sameboat as me, just harboring on,
like the negatives, right, andit could literally be anything
Did you take a trip that youalways wanted to?
Did you put down the cigaretteor the vape for the final time?
Men, did you last four pumpsinstead of three?
Like what was it that youactually set out to do that you
achieved.

(06:39):
Focus on that.
Don't focus on the bullshit, because that's just no way to go
.
Throughout life, you're justgoing to get yourself into a
trap, and that's what happenedto me.
That's how I got into the statethat I was.
That's why I took a little bitof a break and I was like you
know what?
No, fuck this, my life ispretty fucking awesome.
My situation could be a hell ofa lot worse.

(07:03):
So, no, no, you know what.
I'm not going to think this way.
I'm not going to just harbor onthe bullshit.
I'm going to look forward tothe positives.
There's so much more to lookforward to than there is Like.
That's why I think people tendto become depressed, because
they're always just thinkingabout the what ifs, or they're
thinking about like what theycould have done differently or

(07:24):
how their life just hasn'tpanned out like.
Life is a game.
There's going to be ups anddowns, there's going to be wins
and losses, and the wins aregreat.
But for every loss or badsituation that happens to you,
there's always a lesson to behad, right, I mean, as cliche as
this sounds, you really are thecharacter within your own story

(07:45):
.
So the choices that you make isfor your own character
development and depending on ifit's a good or a bad choice,
that's something that you got todecide for yourself.
But I've said it before, I'mgoing to say it again you also
don't want to knowingly putyourself into a bad situation At
that point.
That's not just part of theplot, that's just your own

(08:05):
stupidity.
But if there is a bit of a loss, then you gotta do what you
gotta do to get back on the paththat's right for you, and it's
going to take baby steps to getto that final product.
It's kind of like going to thegym, right?
Oh boy, who doesn't put onweight after the holidays?
I mean, that's why everybody'sNew Year's resolution is to lose
weight.

(08:25):
Right, because you realize thatfor the last two months you
were just such a gluttonous fuckand we all know calories don't
count on Jesus's birthday, because back then no one counted
calories.
So you get yourself into a coma.
You feel like shit.
You're just like, oh, time toget back to being healthy again.
And then, if you're like me,you also took a break from the

(08:46):
gym.
So you realize that you can'tgo full force or you burn
yourself out.
So you go about half to maybethree quarters of the intensity
and you work your way back up,but it's not going to take one
day at the gym to get back towhere you were.
It's going to take a little bitof time and consistency to get
back to that same level that youwere at.
And if you have a loss in yourlife, you got to have that same

(09:09):
mentality where it's just likeokay, here's a little bit of a
drawback.
What do I need to do to getback on track and how do I
maintain that?
So let's use me as the example.
Right, like this past year, Igot laid off and that was my
loss of the year, right?
But now I've got all this freetime to think and figure shit
out.
So what is it that I need to doin order to get my life back on

(09:31):
track here?
Yeah, I can apply for jobs, Ican do X, y, z, but you know
what I realized during all thistime off?
I had all this time to thinkabout stuff, and the path that I
chose to go into career-wisewas marketing.
And you know what I realized?
I fucking hate marketing, dude.

(09:52):
I can't even promote myselfwith this pod.
What the fuck made me think Iwanted to promote some cunt CEO
Like granted.
I know that marketing a podcastis so much different than trying
to market for a company, butI've also just never really been
a social media person, and thatis on my agenda for 2025, which

(10:13):
is to get better behind thescreen to kind of help promote
this frigging thing.
I was doing it a little bit in2024, but I wasn't consistent
with it.
So, going into 2025, that isone of the goals that I'm
setting for myself with thispodcast.
Am I going to start doing itwith this episode?
No, if you're looking forsomebody to lead by example, you

(10:33):
came to the wrong place.
I'm kidding, I'm kidding, I'mkidding.
Like I said earlier, it's babysteps.
I'm just getting back into thisafter a month hiatus, or
however long I took.
So give me some time, I will doit, but right now I've just
been honestly trying to figureout what other fields I could go
into and what I actually dowant to do with my life.

(10:55):
So, honestly, for me, thisperiod of time off from work has
actually been kind of ablessing.
So, for anybody struggling rightnow, what is the lesson that
you need to learn in the likepath that you took that might
not have gone in the directionthat you thought it was going to
go.
Every challenge has itssolution.
So what life problem are youdealing with right now?

(11:18):
That God, the universe, whatever it is that you believe,
is trying to teach you?
And for me, I learned that I'mjust like okay, I hated the path
that I was down.
So now, what's the career thatI want to go into?
And I have the time to explorethe options and you know what.

(11:38):
It's totally okay if you don'thave your life figured out, but
it's what you do with the lossesin your life that matter.
Do you want to take that lossand harbor on it and be a
miserable piece of shit for therest of your life, or do you
want to take the loss on thechin, get up and learn from the
mistake?
So for me, the mistake wasgetting into marketing.
Now I have the time to kind ofchange my career and do

(11:59):
something that's going to makeme happier.
So if you weren't happy withyour 2024, what's something that
is going to make you happy in2025?
Because if you keepcontinuously going down the same
path that you were in, it'snever going to make you happy.
The definition of insanity isdoing the same thing twice and
expecting a different result.
And I know that's an Einsteinquote, but it makes perfect

(12:19):
sense as to why he said that.
Because, as a physicist, numbers are always conclusive.
The dude was always workingwith formulas and math.
If two plus two did not equalfour, he probably looked at that
and went what the actual fuckdid I do wrong here?
That I do wrong here.

(12:42):
And that same shit applies tolife.
Like, if you consistently dothe same thing over and over and
you're just not happy with theresult, then what is it that you
need to change to make theoutcome better?
So you know what?
Fuck all the haters who can'tstand the whole new year, new me
bullshit.
It is a new year, it is a newyou.
Now, with all of this said, ifyou are happy with your life and
there's nothing that you needto change, then keep doing you.

(13:04):
But for people like me, whoweren't happy in their situation
and realize that they need tomake a change in order to get to
where they do want to be inlife, all of this applies.
But all right, that's totallyenough of my soapbox bullshit.
So, anyways, I think what Ilast left you guys off with was
kind of a cliffhanger.
So this was like a month ago atthis point, so bear that in

(13:24):
mind.
But long story short, from whatI remember, this dude came into
the bar that I was hanging atwith my friend and the bartender
went up to him and he was justlike, oh, can I get you anything
?
And he was like no, not rightnow.
I'm actually waiting on afriend.
And then it's about like 30minutes later and the friend
walks in and she's gorgeous andif you saw what he looks like,
we're just like what the hell isshe doing with this guy?

(13:45):
So she sits next to him andthen they order some drinks.
It was weird because, like, hisbody language was definitely
showing off that this was datevibes, but her body language was
definitely showing off thatthis was date vibes, but her
body language was definitelyshowing that she wasn't really
interested in the guy.
So we're just thinking, oh,it's just a like tinder date
gone bad, or whatever it is.

(14:06):
So when there's a lull in theconversation, the bartender, who
was also one of my buddies, goes over to them and asks them
just simple questions like oh,how long have you guys been
married?
And the guy goes, oh, I'mactually on my second wife
looking for a third, winks ather.
And she's just like, yeah, I'mhappily unmarried.
And we were like, oh snap.
So then, like 20 minutes later, they leave.

(14:31):
About an hour later after theyleave, the bartender gets a call
on the bar phone and he comesover to tell me he's like, hey,
that was that chick that washere earlier.
And we're like, oh shit, whatdid she want?
And my buddy was like I don'tknow.
She asked me if the guy tippedme enough.
And we're like all right, that's kind of an interesting
question.

(14:51):
So what did you say back?
He was like, I don't know, hetook me like 10 bucks on a $30
tab, like nothing crazy.
And then, about an hour afterthat call, she shows up, orders
a Coke and was just like hey, please don't affiliate me with
this guy.
That was supposed to be abusiness like meeting I don't
know what we were doing here XYZ.

(15:12):
And she's like how much for theCoke?
And he was like yeah, it's justa Coke, whatever it's on me.
And she's just like okay, whatever, just please take this
tip.
And like don't remember that Iwas ever affiliated with.
This guy Leaves a 20 on the bar.
So then my friend goes over, takes the tip and you realize
that it wasn't just a 20.

(15:32):
It was a pile of 20s and thatthis chick literally paid him
$100 to never remember her faceagain One of the weirdest
scenarios that I've ever seenhappen at a bar.
So I don't know.
Hopefully the cliffhanger wasworth it.
If you found the storyinteresting, I sure as hell did.

(15:53):
But another thing that I wantedto bring up was did anybody
listen to the band that Irecommended last time?
I think it was Asphalt Ballet.
Did anybody check out that band?
Because I really love thatalbum.
I think it's fantastic and Iwas thinking, going along with
the segment of bands that I know, that I don't know if anybody

(16:14):
else knows is, there's a groupout there called Shakra,
s-h-a-k-r-a.
I think they're from Switzerland.
I wanna say and this is kind ofan older band they initially, I
think, came out in the 90s andfrom what I remember that I
looked up, I think their bigclaim to fame was when they went

(16:37):
on tour with a band calledGreat White, which is probably
another band that not a lot ofpeople my age, if you're 28 or
younger would know if you're 28or younger would know and their
big hit was a song called OnceBitten, twice Shy.
It came out back in the 80s.
They were a part of that 80shair metal scene and it's

(17:01):
actually sad.
I think I saw a couple monthsago that the lead singer to that
band passed away, so I can'tremember what his name is, but
shout out to great white um,rest in peace to your singer.
But chakra is kind of like thateighties hair metal style music.
Um, they really actually kindof remind me of Cinderella.

(17:23):
Um, they're just a little bitmore like heavy.
They don't have really manyballads.
They did recently I think lastyear, come out with a song
called Angels Landing which Ithink you could consider a
ballad, but the dude doesn't useany clean vocal.
I don't know if that's just thedude's natural voice.
It's kind of interesting, butvery Tom Kiefer or Kiefer Tom

(17:48):
Kiefer I have no idea how youpronounce that guy the lead
singer from Cinderella Reallyreminiscent of that guy.
But if you check out the band, angels Landing is a really cool
song.
I really love the guitar solosin it.
They have another song calledthe Way it Is.
That's a really cool song.
Another song I like by them iscalled High Noon.
So if you like that style ofmusic, definitely check out this

(18:09):
band.
Another song I like by them iscalled High Noon.
So if you like that style ofmusic, definitely check out this
band.
I'd say I'm a fan.
It's interesting becauseSwitzerland or Sweden, like
those countries, are stillrocking that 80s hair metal.
So if you guys are into thatstyle of music, definitely check
out some of the bands that arecoming out of those countries.
There's actually a lot of goodstuff that you probably haven't

(18:32):
heard because they are foreignand they probably haven't had
like a number one hit in the us.
So I don't know, maybe justsomething to keep in mind.
Um, but yeah, let me know.
If you guys listen to asphaltballet.
Let me know.
If you guys listen to the bandchakra.
Um, also, please let me knowwhat artists that you think are
underrated or kind of unknown.
I am interested in hearing whatyou guys think of and what you
think are underrated or kind ofunknown.
I am interested in hearing whatyou guys think of and what you

(18:52):
guys are listening to.
So, all right With that.
I hope everybody's start to thenew year is fantastic.
Don't forget that.
