When I embarked on the Magnificent Ones podcast journey, the first recording was far from perfect, but it was the catalyst for everything that followed. That leap into the unknown is what this episode touches on—how discipline and a strong desire to achieve our goals can bring about monumental change, even if the starting conditions are less than ideal. We delve into the practice of setting achievable goals and the transformative power of self-reflection, discussing how an honest assessment of our past challenges can inform our future triumphs. It's a conversation that boldly addresses the setbacks we've faced and the introspection required to understand the goals we haven't met, while also emphasizing the importance of a balanced approach to life, considering finances, relationships, and mental and physical health.

And as we turn the page to a new chapter, there's no better time to celebrate the successes that make us who we are. This episode is a toast to the personal achievements that shape our narratives and the exciting collaborations that propel us forward, like the one with Ularon Productions that has added a fresh dynamic to the show. Speaker 1 (00:01):
5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
Let's take a breath, let's divein.
Hello everyone, and welcomeback to another episode of our
podcast.
The title of today's episode isNew Year, same you.

(00:23):
It's the dawn of the new year.
Instead of making hastyresolutions, we're going to
focus on setting realistic,achievable goals.
I think we should start with alittle bit of reflection,
looking back on last year, takea moment and make a list of
things that didn't quite go yourway.
Ask yourself why didn't they goas planned?

(00:46):
Was it because of lack ofexecution, or was it simply poor
planning?
I'd like to start off with alittle story.
A year ago to this day, Idecided to start the magnificent
Ones podcast.
Many times before I set thegoal that I was going to do a

(01:06):
podcast with my friends and itnever quite worked out.
It never went the way that Ithought it would go.
It never manifested itself inanything.
It just didn't work out.
And something just spurredinside of me last year and it

(01:28):
wasn't motivation.
It was a feeling of if I didn'tstart now, I would never start
Overall in my life.
I know that I'm a verydisciplined person.
I know this At the time.
This time last year, mydaughter was five months old and

(01:50):
two o'clock in the morning, Idid the first episode of the
magnificent Ones podcast.
I remember it vividly.
I remember there were momentsduring the episode where I had
to take my mouth away from themic to kind of coo my daughter
to sleep, because I just knew Ihad to start.

(02:12):
And I know that there weremoments where I was going in and
out of the microphone, but Ididn't care.
The important thing was that Istarted the process and the more
I do the podcasting, the betterI become at it.
But I think to myself today andreflecting, that if I had to be

(02:37):
motivated to just start, Inever would have started,
because each time, you know, afriend just didn't do their part
or it just didn't work out, mymotivation would have suffered
because of it.
But there are going to bemoments where you just have to
dive into that river ofuncertainty.
And when you dive into thatriver of uncertainty it's going

(03:00):
to reveal your true colors, whoyou really are when push comes
to shove.
And that's why discipline isimportant.
You're not always going to wantto go to the gym.
You're not always going to wantto study.
You're not always going to wantto go for that walk or eat a
salad.
Yes, those things sucksometimes.

(03:21):
Motivation, finding themotivation to do these things
sometimes they suck, they reallydo.
But discipline says, hey, we'regoing to do this, we're just
going to start, and maybe wedon't give a million percent
today, but as long as we start, that's all that really matters.

(03:49):
Often we blame external factorsfor missteps, but upon closer
inspections, we might find thatthe root cause lies within us.
Our approach, our mindset orour planning might be the
culprits.
Remember, it's okay to fail, and what's crucial is that we

(04:13):
learn from those failures andnot to repeat the same mistakes
over and over again, like NewYear's resolutions.
Do we even hold ourselvesaccountable to achieving the
goals that we set out?
Maybe that's why we forget, because we have no sense of
conviction to achieve thosethings that we so desire.

(04:37):
We desire them.
We have this raging passion tojust accomplish the things that
we set out for, because everyoneelse around us is doing the
same thing and it doesn't last.
It doesn't last.
So this is why it's importantto re-evaluate, and not just

(05:01):
re-evaluate our goals, butre-evaluate our finances, our
relationships and our mental andphysical health.
Those things are also importantand those could be factors that
determine whether or not wereach the things that we set out
to achieve.
It's important, it's allimportant.
Your mental state of being isimportant and is a vital or a

(05:26):
crucial part of you having asuccessful outcome when setting
realistic goals.
When it comes to finances, askyourself if you're not spending
wisely or if you're livingbeyond your means.
Are you saving enough for thefuture In terms of relationships

(05:46):
?
Are you surrounding yourselfwith positive influences who
push you to be better, alongwith your mental and physical
health?
Are you taking the necessarysteps to stay fit and healthy?
Are you?
I mean, sometimes that fallsshort in that regard as well,

(06:07):
but we have to take care ofourselves.
If we're not taking care ofourselves, we can't achieve our
goals, because we're going tofalter, we're going to have bad
days, we're going to getdepressed.
We are.
But the healthier we arementally, the more fit we are

(06:28):
mentally when those thingshappen, those missteps, those
curveballs that life likes tothrow our way.
When those things occur, guesswhat?
It won't set us back.
The answers may not always bepleasant, but they're necessary

(06:52):
for growth.
This insur insurrection.
It will help us identify areaswhere you need to focus your
energy and resources.
You have to look within andreevaluate your circumstances.
How did you end up where youare today?

(07:13):
Why are you not hitting thegoals that you're setting out?
Why can't you seem to justbreak through, when you're
working so hard and your hardwork is not getting you anywhere
?
Why is it that you can't seemto be content in the things that

(07:35):
you desire?
Why can't you just be happy?
What is stopping you fromreaching your full potential
Without introspection orreevaluation?
If you don't know where you areor how you got to where you are

(07:57):
, then you're going to continueto stray away from the path that
is going to lead you to whereyou need to be.
In order for you to become thebest version of yourself, you
should create a system thatworks for you.
That's why the reevaluationprocess is so important and

(08:17):
essential.
This system that you create.
It should align with your goalsand be flexible enough to adapt
to unexpected events andsituations.
Say that for some reason, you'reon a diet, but then you realize
that it's your best friend'sbirthday party.
Enjoy.

(08:38):
Yes, it's true that you want ona diet to lose weight, but you
also have to live life.
Don't go to the birthday partyand not have a slice of cake,
not eat the food.
It's just a moment.
Enjoy the moment, but rememberto still be focused, be vigilant

(09:00):
, be disciplined enough to knowyour environment and that in
each environment it requiresdifferent things.
Because you're at this party, guess what?
You're going to?
Enjoy the party withinmoderation.
Enjoy the party, have a goodtime, live life.

(09:22):
A balanced life is a good life.
We should have a balance ofdiscipline and room for
relaxation, meaning that, yes,we're going to work hard at the
gym, but it's okay to have icecream too.
This is also ensuring thatyou're not overworking yourself,

(09:43):
because if you realize that youeating healthy is just too much
for you mentally because you'renot enjoying life, then why
would you stay committed to it?
You're going to feel burnt outand unsatisfied and you're going
to seek satisfaction by justjumping into the things that you
love, and then you're not goingto maybe get into the best

(10:05):
shape that you thought you weregoing to go into, because you
were just so hyper-focused onnot enjoying anything, because
you thought you had to giveeverything up 100%, that you
deprive yourself of all thesethings that now your brain
craves them even more.
And the more you deprive, themore your brain craves.
And as you're going down thispath, guess what?

(10:27):
You're going to overindulge andyou're just going to forget
that New Year's resolution.
That's how it died.
Remember, the journey is thatbecoming the best version of
yourself is a marathon and not asprint.
It takes time, patience and alot of self-love.

(10:50):
When you mess up or you fallshort, remember it's okay for
you to forgive yourself as youwould forgive anyone else.
So, as we bark on this new year, let's throw out the resolution
and instead reflect,re-evaluate and create a system

(11:15):
with realistic goals and worktowards becoming the best you.
That's the best thing you cando.
Become the best you, and I'm sothankful for you joining us for
this insightful episode.
Now here's to growth in thisnew year, positivity and
self-improvement.
When reflecting on the past year, there are several keys to

(11:42):
ensuring that you're successful,in my opinion.
Of course, maybe other peoplehave more or less, but I would
like to focus on these.
So bear with me for just amoment as I collect my thoughts.
Reference and success look backon what you accomplished,
including both big and smallachievements, and this will help

(12:05):
you identify your strength andit's going to allow you to boost
your confidence.
We all have challenges andfailures, so reflect also on the
difficulties you face and themistakes you made and the lesson
you learned from theseexperiences.
Now this can help youunderstand your areas of

(12:25):
improvement, your goals andaspirations.
Consider the goals that you setfor yourself at the beginning
of the year.
Did you achieve them?
If not, why?
This reflection can help youset more realistic goals for the
next year.
Relationships think about therelationships in your life.

(12:48):
Are they positive andsupportive?
Have you made any newconnections?
Have some of your relationshipsended, and how these
relationships influence yourcurrent state of life, your
health and well-being?
Reflect on your physical, mental and emotional health.

(13:08):
Have you taken steps to improveyour health and well-being?
Are there areas in your lifethat you need to focus on more?
Maybe in your life you don'tneed to focus heavily on your
mental health.
Maybe you need to focus on yourphysical health or vice versa,
your personal growth.

(13:29):
Consider your growth as anindividual.
What new skills have youlearned?
Have you grown emotionally andmentally?
Have you stepped out of yourcomfort zone?
You know the expression, asdiamonds are formed under
pressure.
Have you put more or lesspressure on yourself?
You know a lot of times, ifyou're going through a rough

(13:51):
time, that could mean thatyou're growing.
Sometimes, if things are justtoo smooth, it could mean that
you're lacking or you're indenial about your current state
of being Finances.
Review your financial situation.
Have you achieved yourfinancial goals?
Are there areas where you needto improve?

(14:13):
Maybe you need to save more, maybe you need to invest, or
maybe you need to spend a littlebit more money on yourself.
Maybe enjoy money for the toolthat it is.
Some people have money, butthey hoard it.
They don't use it to go onvacation.
They don't use it to just feelgood every once in a while.

(14:34):
That is healthy.
It is healthy to spend money attimes within a reason to feel
good.
It is a tool, after all.
By focusing on these areas, youcan gain a comprehensive
perspective of your year andlearn from your experiences and
plan more effectively for theyear ahead.

(14:57):
Reflecting on challenges andfailures is a crucial part of
our growth and development.
I want you to see how this canhelp you.
In life, there's always alesson to learn.
Every failure comes with alesson, and reflection helps you
to extract these valuablelessons and understand what you

(15:18):
could do differently next time, building resilience.
Facing challenges and failurescan be tough.
Yes, life sucks sometimes.
Life is crap at times.
These are true, but reflectingon them helps you to build

(15:39):
resilience.
You have to face the beastthat's in front of you at times,
and sometimes it's painful toreap in old wounds, but it
encourages you to accept thefailures that are a part of your
life and there is steppingstone towards the new you and
your success.

(15:59):
It's also important to highlightyour weaknesses.
Reflect on those areas.
Sometimes we're lacking, andit's okay for us to say that,
hey, we're lacking, because ifyou're not honest with it, who
are you hurting?
When you live in denial, youhurt you, and if you hurt you,

(16:23):
guess what A lot of times youend up hurting those around you
as well.
Highlight the areas in whichyou just hit the ground running.
Be specific.
Be knowledgeable about who youare.
Know your resources.
Once you identify yourweaknesses, guess what you can

(16:44):
work on strengthening them, butyou can't do that by running
away from them.
You need to encourage yourselfto be more adaptable.
Reflect on failures can alsohelp you become more adaptable,
because when you reflect on yourfailures, yes, that's a
negative thing.
Failing is not always positive, but it could make you a more

(17:04):
grounded individual, make youmore secure, because you have
knowledge and experience of whyyou failed.
This also should encourage youto try new strategies and find
innovative solutions to findingwhat works for you, enhancing
your decision-making skills,because now you're more refined,

(17:25):
you make a mistake, you correctit and even if you fail, you
now have more opportunities tobecome more efficient.
You also have more time tolearn.
When you learn what works, youalso know what doesn't work.
It's kind of like if you faileda thousand times, it makes you
reliable.
That's what you now know athousand ways to not make a

(17:49):
light bulb.
There is a lesson to be learnedin our failures.
There is.
We must not only understand thethings that we're lacking in or
our failures, but we must alsoacknowledge them.
It's a part of the process ofimprovement.
It sucks, but also it's justthe journey of life.

(18:16):
Some parts are going to besweet, some parts are going to
be painful, but the past is thepast and the future is for you
to determine.
Personally, I don't have NewYear's resolutions.
I simply just have long-termand short-term goals.

(18:38):
I have a six-month goal, aone-year goal, a three-year goal
, a five-year goal and aten-year goal.
I evaluate my goals quarterly.
I would say that I know exactlywhat percentage my success rate
was for 2023, which made me I'mquite disappointed in myself,

(19:02):
actually, because I was battingat 82 percent completion of my
goals or accomplishing my goals.
I'm out of a list of 100 things.
I was only able to accomplish82 of them last year.
The reason being was that Ispent the least amount of time

(19:25):
2023, working on myself than atany other point in my adult life
.
I focused heavily on my career.
That was my biggest misstep of2023.
I worked harder on everythingelse than myself.

(19:45):
I don't think that I'll evermake that mistake again.
I surely hope I don't, becauseit made me feel as though,
rolling into 2024, that I wasstill in 2023 because some of

(20:06):
the stuff from 2023 spilled overinto 2024.
That's not something that sitswell with me, my soul or who I
am as a person.
I don't like leaving thingsunfinished.
I've made adjustments sincethen to not repeat the same

(20:31):
mistakes twice.
I would advise everyone to dothe same Re-evaluate and make
adjustments.
You have your goal, but see toit that at some point, you sit
down to see how your progressionis going, not just hey, I
messed up.
Maybe this is why I messed up,but I plan to get from this

(20:56):
point to this point by this time.
Those are little things thatwill help you.
I'd like to reiterate that thisis a marathon, not a sprint.
Rome wasn't built in a day.
It takes time, and it's okay tofall here and there.

(21:17):
You're gonna pick yourself up,though.
You're gonna keep movingforward, because this journey is
not a journey of perfection.
It's a journey of growth anddevelopment and self-improvement
, and that's the only thing thatmatters is that you know that,

(21:37):
no matter how big or how smallyour successes are, they're
yours and no one can take thataway from you.
So, with this new year, thedawn of this new year, just
focus on one thing at a timeuntil you get to that 82, 83%,

(21:59):
100%, whatever the smallsuccesses add up.
Maybe sometimes just make a fewgoals that are just absolutely
ridiculous, just so that yourbrain can get into the habit of
a routine and a habit of youactually accomplishing things.

(22:20):
For example, maybe tellyourself that every day when you
wake up, you're just gonna takea deep breath in the mirror and
check that off your list everysingle day.
It's yours.
You define what's important toyou.
Maybe you tell yourself thatevery day, I'm gonna do three
push-ups Three as ridiculous asit sounds.

(22:43):
It seems very, very easy.
But if you do three push-upsevery single day, your brain now
knows that you're committed tosomething.
You've now trained your bodyand your brain to be committed
to something, even though it'sthree push-ups.
You were dedicated and youdisciplined yourself to this
cause of three push-ups each day, and no one can take that away.

(23:08):
No one can take that victoryaway from you.
It's yours.
That victory is simply justgoing to have this snowball
effect that's gonna keeptumbling and tumbling and
tumbling and it's gonna create apattern of successes.
You are your best success andthe best success story is your

(23:31):
personal success story.
Be you, love yourself and keepimproving.
And I would like to take thistime to also thank Ularon
Productions for the amazing workthat they're doing and the

(23:52):
things that they're working on.
I am simply ecstatic and trulyhonored to be working with
Genius.
That's just the best, but Icould think of genius, genius
and innovation, and we have someamazing things coming out soon.
So thank you, ularonProductions.
I am so excited.

(24:14):
I'm so blessed.
I'm wishing everyone a happynew year and growth and success
in many shapes, and I hope thateveryone feels fulfilled this
year.
And this is your year and thisis your time.
This is your clean slate, sostart fresh and do your best.
