Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome back to the Money Mails podcast. We are in
season two and on today's episode, I have the beautiful,
the talented Jaquelin Carr visiting with me today the Seller
Awards at this weekend, and you stopped back to say,
what's up. I'm so excited to have you here.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
Thank you, thank you for having me.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Yes, yes, yes, the forty of Sellar Awards are this weekend.
We're just days away from it. Tell me what's the
vibe like for you right now as you're getting ready?
I know you just got here. Yeah, So what's been
going on? How you feeling as we get into this weekend?
Speaker 2 (00:33):
You know, I'm excited. I'm always excited.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
It is an amazing platform that you know, we obviously
can call our own where different styles of gospel is
showcased on this platform. I tell people all the time,
I firstly feel like gospel is the only genre where
you can find everything that you need there from hip hop,
traditional contemporary, jazz, all the things.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
And so I'm excited. I think it's gonna be a
great one.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
And of course I'll be performing during the tribute to
mister Dunn, so it's gonna be great.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Yes, And we are excited to see that tribute. You
always bring so much joy and light, you know to
the carbet even with your fashion sets, can we you know,
can we get a little taste of man we can
expect wardrobe wise.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
I'm just gonna say, I'm gonna need help walking in it.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
It's gonna be big, okay, and I am here for it.
I can't wait to see you this weekend. Let's talk
about the single Don't Faint. Of course. I just feel
like it was so necessary in the times right now
because a lot of us are going through it, okay,
and we need that motivation to just for one let
people know I see you, I feel you. We can
(01:45):
get through this. And that's what don't think it's all about? Yeah,
that perseverance. What you know, if you don't mind sharing, Like,
what is a moment in your personal yes that you
feel like you've had to don't Faint?
Speaker 3 (01:56):
Yeah? Yeah, There's been many, and I would say the
song is just derived from just covenants that God has
made with us and promises that He's spoken of our lives.
Last year long, I just felt the burden of so
many people who were, you know, believe in God. You
heard all these words these affirmations, you're gonna have this
and it's gonna happen, and you didn't see it come
(02:17):
to pass, and you feel like, well, maybe I'm not
worthy enough.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
Wait, maybe it's not gonna happen. Maybe it's not for me.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
And before the year came in, God told me that
twenty twenty five is gonna be a year where he
reintroduced covenants that he made with his people to them.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
You forgot, He didn't forget, and it is time.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
It is your time to see it, the Bible says,
being now we're in well doing for in due season
you you'll reap if you faint not and if you
don't faint, you're gonna see it come to pass. And
He did it for me, Like I don't just sing
these songs. These are literally worse that I applied to
my life. He came in a year swinging with the Grammy.
There's been years that you know, a Grammy has been
(02:55):
spoken over my life and.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
I ain't see it come to pass.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
But these year came in, so happened and I released
Don't When I was going into the studio over to
record Don't Faint, That's when I found out I want
to grant me congratulations.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Thank you, you know, and it is just a reminder because,
like you said, at times, you feel like, you know,
he didn't forget about especially now, I feel like all
of my friend group, like everybody around me, it's just
something going on. But it's that reminder in the storm
that there is a rainbow.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, he didn't forget.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
He's just has Everybody has a set time and a
set season, and it's going to bring you into it.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
Yes, I love it. And so let's talk about the
new album because I know that you have a new
album on the way. It's dropping on October third.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Okay, allegedly.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
Drop the day whatever, But can you talk about it a
little bit because you named the album ja Quelen Card
the Legends. Okay, tell me a little bit about the
album and the meaning of that.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
Yeah, this album is different for me because I'm collaborating
with legends. Every collaborator, every artist on there is gonna
be is someone who has made a huge staple or
Benny Hughes staple in gospel music as a whole, and
not just gospel music but music in general, and a
lot of them has crossed over even mainstream and still
(04:11):
holding onto their values and all the things that I
think that's very inspiring. And it's not just about bridging
the gap, because you know, it ain't too much.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Of a gap.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
It's also about just honoring these people and letting them know, no,
we appreciate you, and letting the world know that a
lot of music we hear started with some of these
artists right here, you know, and even back in the
days Retha Franklin and just the list goes on and on.
So I have Yolanda Adams, Julie Caesar, BB Whinning's, John
(04:42):
pee Key, hezek KIH. Walker, Harvey Walker's. It's a long list,
but I'm excited. Yeah, oh my goodness, I can't wait.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
They allegedly October third will just have to follow and yeah,
you know, see what's happening with that. But as you
can hear, is definitely something that we are going to
wait for. You know, we got a choice. It's a way.
Thank you now, Jacquelyn. You're a radio personality yourself. How
does that shape the way that you connect with you know,
people who are fans, you know, on and off the air,
(05:13):
like doing interviews, which has been on the carbon in general.
How do you. First of all, was that the plan?
Like how did you get into that? And then how
does that help you connect with people with your music?
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Two crazy things. When I was little, I used to
always act like I.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Was on radio. Okay, okay.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Second thing is when I got into you know, release music,
got into the industry, whatever whatever. People tell me all
the time that I had a radio voice, But I
mean I just you know, thank you, and just kept
it moving. Little did I know that I would be
on the radio. And I think for me, it is
another way to give people hope and to give people encouragement.
(05:48):
A lot of people can't take it week by week.
Some people got to take your day by day. And
so every day I make sure that you know, I'm
imparting into them something that they can carry. And it'd
be so funny because some people, some people be like
all I gotta do is called a radio station to
talk to Jaquelin car It's so funny. But I have
a good time, you know, laughing with people and just
(06:10):
enjoying them. And most importantly, these are the people who
push you, who support you. I have a heart for people,
and I just want to see the people encouraged and
radio is one way.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
I can do that. It absolutely is. It's that direct
way connect exactly. People really care about you because obviously
they yeah, I got a job. Yeah, I love that. Okay,
So multi talented music, okay, radio. You know, we know
that you've done a film, Will Packers crazy this back
in twenty twenty three talking about acting? Will we see
more of that from you?
Speaker 2 (06:41):
Yeah? The right the right roles.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
You know, I get scripts in all the time, but
for me, it's about what is the role for Jaquelin
and just making sure.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
That you know it goes alone.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
It don't You're not in I'm not in a compromising situation,
you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
And but I definitely look forward to it. I love it.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
I had fun recording that film, and a lot of
the people that I met on said we're still friends
to this very day. Lauren Lott, Angelica, I mean, we
have a whole group chat, all of us.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
But yeah, I enjoyed it, okay.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
And so is it just that when you say the
right road for you, does it have to be you know,
within the gospel?
Speaker 2 (07:26):
Oh no, it doesn't.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly, it doesn't have to be
in the gospel. I don't live in myself. You know,
this is my foundation. This is something I will always
carry with me. And I believe that if I can
sit in the boardroom with mainstream people, I can be
on film, you know, and mainstream films and stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Just the right the right one.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
And so I just feel like with your platform and
just who you are in general, like you've inspired millions
of people. Who is that person or persons that inspires
you on your tough days because we.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
All got I'm gonna have to say my family, Like
I love my family, and I don't mean to be biased,
but I mean to be biased. I feel like I
have the best family from you know, my parents, my siblings,
my aunts and uncles, Like we all have a group
chat and we laugh. We it's just it's beautiful. I'm
(08:20):
a family person, So I love it. And just being
able to go back home and just get their refuel
that I need because my family is still in the
Arkansas and I'm in Atlanta now and.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
I'm traveling and stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
But just being able to have the family that I
have and their encouragement and them pushing you all the time,
because you know, they they see stuff all the time,
and they know how that could potentially make a person feel.
But they're always they're encouraging me.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
Yes, and that's support it, you know. And I feel
like even you know, so many people have so much
trauma when it comes to like family, Yeah, things in
the past. At some point, you know, you kind gotta let.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
It go, exactly. It's too much life to live, you know.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
And I understand that what could have happened was it
was extreme. However, we have to realize that you cannot
waste the rest of your life embitter and angry in anger,
you know, disconnected from family.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
Now they just don't want to.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
You can't force them, but at least freeing yourself, you
know what I'm saying exactly, yes, because whether you know
it or not, it takes a toll on your health,
on your mental all of that. You can say, I'm good, No, no, no, no,
you gotta free yourself of that and live. You can't
(09:48):
live if you're still holding on to stuff.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
Okay, Now we talked a little bit about mainstream radio,
well just mainstream in general, like who if you could
collab with any non gospel artist, who would that be
and why?
Speaker 3 (10:07):
Well, I had three. However, they are not here with
us anymore. Winnie Houston my all time favorite love, Whitney Houston,
Tina Turner.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
I love just the performance side of her.
Speaker 3 (10:24):
I think the artistry when it comes to that is
just amazing and you know, wishful thinking. Michael Jackson the
king of pop. But yeah, I would mind collabing with
the country artist. I love country music, but it just again,
it really depends. It depends on yeah, and very intentional
(10:48):
about yeah, because for me, it's it's bigger than It's
not a business move.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
It's not none like it has to be.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
I don't know the right situation, but I'm never gonna
I can want something all day long, but if it's
not expedient for me to do, or if it's not
what I should do, I'm never gonna do it.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
Yeah, you understand that. And I saw on your page
recently to you, are you a foodie girl that's thought
you was judging the barbecue girl.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Let me tell you something.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
I have to go to the gym every day, three
days out of the week. I go twice, okay, because
I love food. It's so good and I'm not gonna look, I'm.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
Not gonna stop eating.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
I just go to the gym to try to work
it out from But I love food. I come from
a family who can cook. You know, some people think
their family can cook. I ain't one of those. My family,
We're gonna tell you the truth. If it's nasty, it
is nasty, Okay.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
One thing we won't.
Speaker 3 (11:39):
Play about it is our food. And you mentioned the
judging the barbecue. Yeah, I'm from Memphis, so I ain't
see no no, no ribs. Ain't getting no no, none
of that.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
What around tips.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
I think people who wasn't even from Memphis was like, wait,
what is that? But no, it was a fun experience,
but you know, and just allow people to see that
side of me that loves food and just like a
sweet sar are a big thing for me and love desserts.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
But yeah, just food in general.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
Have you heard anything about any of the spots here
in Nashville.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
Some people were making suggestions, but I'm open to hearing
you let me know, yes, yes.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
Nashville before so I'm I'm not from here. I've moved here.
It's been about six almost seven years to seven and eight,
and that's all they talked about before I came to
the food. But you know it's a difference.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
Is it's the food on Broadway exactly. It depends on
the location.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
Yeah, yeah, I'm gonna get you right with some of
the food before we go, though, I just want to
do a quick game of finish the sentence. So when
people hear Jaquelin Carr, you want them to feel what.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
I want them to feel, my heart and my passion
to see them prosper and to thrive in life, knowing
that we all face mountains, we all face situations and
all of that. But my heart is for you to
get to that place where you say, Okay, this will
not overcome me. At some point, I'm gonna overcome. I'm
(13:20):
gonna win, I'm gonna triumph. And that's what I want
people to to get in to hear when they see you.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
Kas. And then the biggest thing that you're looking forward
to this weekend at the Stellar Worldwards.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
Just seeing all all my fellow yes, the fellow artists
and stuff and just having a good time.
Speaker 2 (13:40):
It's always great.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
If I always describe it as like a big gospel
family reunion. You know, you got some of everybody there,
and I think it's gonna be a beautiful experience, especially
this is we're in Nashville, you know, people coming from everywhere,
and so yeah, it's gonna be great and.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
I love it again. Thank you so much for being
here today. This Saturday, the taping of the Stellar Awards
has taking place. Jacquelin will be performing this weekend. We'll
get to see the outfits and all that looks and
all that good stuff. Any last thoughts, you know, what
can we expect from you? What can we look forward to?
I know we have the album that's supposed to be
dropped in October.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
Anything else, Yes, it's some other things that I'm working
on in the business world, So you have to follow
me for that, okay at jaquelen car under everything j
E K A L Y n C A l R.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
And yeah, just constantly expanding.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
And there's other things that's tied to the album or
whatever that we're working on as well. So you just
followed me on social media.
