Speaker 1 (00:05):
You are listening to the Manning Show with You and Manning.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
You're number one sports podcast starts now. Chiefs find a
way to do her twenty five twenty two is your
final score on the Super Bowl. Not many people happy
with the olcome, especially forty nine Ers fans, which I
(00:29):
know a lot of in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, A lot
of a lot of a lot of fans of forty
nine Ers in Alberta.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
So I it was a rough game overall.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
I mean, Oilers obviously also lose for nothing. We're not
going to get into that today because we'll kind of
get into the preview tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
But I don't wanna. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
I don't want to like say anything about it because
it was just rough. But I think the four forty
nine Ers fans they should not be feeling to They
should be feeling unhappy because they had the right to
feel unhappy. I was just trying to put my words
together because their team is way better than.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Than the Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
And the question was that we talked about on the
show if you listen to it the fifty minute show
was Zach do can the defense do what it takes
get the stop to win the game. And I said,
I was worried about their defense, And sure enough, what happened.
They had two chances, the forty nine ers defense had
(01:49):
two chances to go out and win the game.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
And what did they do. They neither of them. They
stopped it.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
They had a couple fourth downs to make plays on.
They had their chance to win the football game and
to win the Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
And that's the difference the Rams Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
When they won, Joe Burrow had a full field and
he had two timeouts to go with one forty left,
and the Rams found a way to stop them.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
And that's because the Aaron Donald.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
It showed me how great Aaron Donald is, and that
Super Bowl rate there showed to me how great Patrick
Mahomes is and how start hard to stop Mahomes.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
Now, they should have been.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Able to stop them two chances. You gotta get one
stop on two chances, and they score points in both rays.
At least they limit them to a field goal the
first time. The second time, you need to get stop
or one or the other, or the offense has got
to get in the end zone. But overall, just a
(02:51):
crazy game for the forty nine ers and unfortunate for them,
but they will be back next year stronger than ever.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
There's gonna be some questions that quarterback. I know Purdy
didn't play terrible, but he didn't play great either.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
He didn't play like a guy who's gonna lead his
team to a super Bowl victory. So we'll see what
they end up doing in that position. I'm assuming they're
just gonna keep it, but maybe they go look for
their own number fifteen. Right, We'll see what ends up
happening kind of with the forty nine ers and maybe
some coaching changes. Especially d. I don't know how you
(03:27):
can lose that game. He had so many chances as well.
In the first half. You'r d was playing incredible. The
offense has got picked up both sides. Defense should have
won them in the game, and the offense should have
played better in the first half.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
The Chiefs d you can give them credit.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
All they need, but Mahomes is unbelievable. There's nothing going
on the first half with Kelsey, he was mad, obviously
Andy reading him beefing on the sidelines. The second half,
it was like ninety two yards in the second half
for Travis Kelcey. Unbelievable, Right, they just found ways to
(04:07):
win the football game. That's what they do. Everyone was
doubting the Chiefs, saying, hey, oh they're not is not
as good anymore. But sure enough, the Chiefs found a
way to win the game. And now they're starting a dynasty.
The Chiefs are now like the Patriots. It's not a
question anymore. They've won three of the last five Super Bowls.
(04:30):
The only other two teams were the Bucks in the
Rams right to win the Super Bowl in the last
five years.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
They are now the Patriots.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
There's gonna be a target on their back every year,
and Mahomes is gonna keep finding ways.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
To beat teams.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
He beat the Ravens because you can't say they got
lucky in anyway. Beat the Ravens, beat the Bills, beat
the Niners, all very very good teams.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
And they beat them in close games.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
Right, So Mahomes, it just shows that the only two
guys that have beat them is Burrow and Brady, the
two bes. He finds a way to get the job
done every time.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
It's so weird. He's dominating. It's crazy. But we can't
kind of dive into the game. Obviously.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
First half you had Jwan Jennings throwing, so they kind
of tossed it to him on the side.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
He threw it all the way across the field.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
The CMC who ran in the touchdown big for the
forty nine ers. Obviously, field goal for both teams. There
field goal to end the half for the Chiefs, so
it took them until the end of the second half
to get on the board.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Nothing was going. Travis Kelsey was mad as coach.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
It was not looking good for them. And then at
halftime Ushers halftime show. I don't want to get much
in that because nobody really cares about the halftime show.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
It sucked.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
I'm just gonna say that it was not a great
halftime show, but I guess it is what it is, right,
So then they started finding ways to get guys going.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
So the Niners started off.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
I'm just looking right here, I'm just scrolling to look
at this. So the Chiefs obviously end with the field goal.
Then they get stopped. Then then the Niners get stopped
because Mahomes through an interception they couldn't capture because of
the holding penalties. We can talk about the penalties. The
(06:22):
on line for the Niners took a ton of penalties.
Trent Williams at the start of the game was not
on his game. There's a bunch of holding calls, undisciplined
football from both teams, right, unnecessary roughness.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
It was very undisciplined. It was very like heated.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
But I guess when it comes down to Patrick Mahomes
and Travis Kelsey, they finally to find a way to
get it done. So in the Chiefs get their fifty
seven yard field goal, which actually is a record, So
Jake Mooney got the record at fifty five, and then
one quarter later, Harrison Bucker gets gets the record for
longest field goal in the Super Bowl fifty seven yards.
(06:59):
And then there's a fumble, a muffed punt, fumble recovered,
and then Marquez Velda's Scantlon gets on the board with
a touchdown wide open. That was after the drop punt.
Right the drop punt. We can talk about this, but
why in the world would you try and scoop up
the ball. He should have just dove on the ball
(07:21):
after it hit the guy. I know it hit the guy,
but you don't scoop up and run. All these punt
returners try to be the hero and go and take
it all the way to the House just fall on
the ball and take the because that costed them maybe
the Super Bowl. And then Juwan Jennings gets on the board,
but the extra point gets blocked and that was the
main talk. And then Harrison Bucker knocks down a field goal,
(07:43):
then Moody knocks down a field goal, then Bucker ties it,
and then into Ot Moody kicks a field goal and
then mkol Harvin gets the game winning TD catch. Now
it was kind of talked about, but they they didn't
know strategy. I mean the Chiefs they had the strategy down.
(08:04):
They were saying, Hey, if we lose, right, we're gonna
go if if we lose the coin toss, we're gonna
let them have or if we win the coin toss,
we're gonna let them have the ball they score touchdown
or kick a field goal if they if they score touchdown,
we're gonna go score touchdown and put up the two
(08:25):
points to win the game.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
Cuite something right, So.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
And then Kyle Eustchek was saying they didn't even know
the rules. But at the end of the day, the
Kansas City Chiefs were the more experienced team in the
playoffs and had the better quarterback and the deep playout standing,
and they probably got up Coach Kyle Shanahan. His play
calling was not great either. I'm gonna miss NFL season,
(08:52):
I really am, because it is my favorite season to
watch fantasy football every all that. But as I'm saying
that MLB season's coming up, which I know is every day.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
It's not a hype, but it's coming.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
Right, so we're gonna look forward to that. Obviously, we'll
bring in a lot more NFL stuff over the off season.
But yeah, big win for the Chiefs. I don't know
really what else to say because there's not much else
going on.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
I mean, the Oilers obviously are playing up here.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
They're playing tomorrow, but after a terrible loss against the Kings,
which we're not gonna get into today because we've got
tons of time to talk about all this oiler stuff.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
They play tomorrow against the Red Wings.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Okay, red Wings, I mean pretty solid seven and three
in their last ten on the road, they're twelve and eleven.
The oiler's is sixteen and seven at home. But yeah,
the Red Wings are good, so we'll see what ends
up happening at seven pm Mountain time. There hasn't been
really any the lines kind of went back to normal.
(10:05):
I just got to find this, but like there's no
much else going on. March Madness is coming up, which
I'm really excited about, but I'm just just too bad that. Yeah,
so Gagne does come up into into the lineup for
yan Mark. That was the noticeable thing, uh, other than
the lines stay the same and the deep parents.
Speaker 1 (10:25):
Go back to normal.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
So that's kind of your oilers update. I guess game tomorrow.
I don't know that I'm gonna do a pre game tomorrow.
I'll do a post game on Wednesday though, for sure.
But yeah, this is just going back.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
To the Super Bowl. Mahomes is the.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
Best quarterback and it's not even a question for people
that were down in him this year. Didn't have a
great year. He is the best quarterback and he proved
everyone wrong. Mkole Hartman had a great game too. He
had that one deep catch, I know he dropped the ball,
but touchdown to win it.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
Isaiah Pacheco had a bit of an interesting game.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
You know, he had a fumble, He had that one
dropped kind of pitch, so kind of an interesting game
for him. Or she Rice played pretty well. I mean
he was open for that last play of the game.
I guess it was solid, but Harrison Bucker with quite
a game. The Chiefs always seemed to kick a lot
of fuel goals and Harrison Bucker four for four from
(11:20):
field goals, five punts for the Chiefs and five for
San fran Overall, Chiefs beat them in total yards four
fifty five to three eighty two. Time possession was almost
the same. First downs is basically the same. Third down
percentage is pretty solid difference nine for nineteen for the
Chiefs and three for twelve for the San Francisco forty
(11:43):
nine ers.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
One for two in the red zone.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
For the Niners, two for six for the Chiefs, so
nine ers d did a good job stopping them until
those last last bit. Rushing yards basically the same passing yards,
only one hundred and fifty yard difference in Russian yard.
It's basically the same turnovers, the same. Penalties were pretty
(12:07):
close to the same, a lot of penalties fifty yards
for both of them.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
The Niners found a way to get three sacks on
my homes, but couldn't get a sack in the big,
big part. And that's what you look at it.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
There wasn't a guy who stepped up in that big
moment on that fourth and one or really anything, and
I guess it's the way it goes now. So chief
star a dynasty, and I don't know what else to say.
I wasn't very happy because I don't like the Chiefs.
Speaker 1 (12:38):
I know, I'm a Rams fan. A lot of them
were cheering for the Niners.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
But it is what it is now, right, So I
don't know what more we can get into because there
wasn't a ton of news today. I guess Mitchell Trubitsky
was released or they're kind of parted ways, right, but there's.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
Literally nothing else going on. I can kind of do. Yeah,
I don't like I don't want to do score update today.
There's not much going else going on. There's four games
in the NHL today.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
They're all tight, I mean three three Nothing Devils one one,
Oh Rangers three two Coyotes, Wild and Cracking are at
a PM tonight. But yeah, I'm just sad that the
NFL is over and wind up seeing what happens with
some of these teams. Interested to see what ends up
happening with uh yeah, but I'm hoping that we can
(13:31):
get another guest on to kind of go more in
depth into this Super Bowl because I don't like right now,
I'm not just gonna sit with you and just talk
about this entire game. But yeah, so we can leave
it at that for the day. As I am having
technical difficulties. It says SD four, But yeah, we're.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Gonna leave it at that for today. I'm gonna be
back tomorrow. I know this is kind of a shorter.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Episode, but people like the shorter episodes, so we're gonna
leave it at that for today. I'll be back tomorrow
for sure, for sure, or maybe not back tomorrow, but
today or tomorrow I'll have.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
Another episode out. But Blue Jays Baseball is coming. It's coming.
We can get talking into that. But now we're just
gonna leave it at that for today. So I hope
all of you enjoy enjoy the game tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
For the others, seven pm puck drop, but big Super Bowl, entertaining,
boring first half.
Speaker 1 (14:35):
Have a good night everyone.
