Speaker 1 (00:05):
You are listening to The Manning Show with you and Manning,
your number one sports podcast starts now. Welcome back to
another episode of The Manning Show.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Man O Man. Was it a fun, fun weekend for.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Sports and I'm gonna have a great pod here episode
with you breaking this one down.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Let's start.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
I mean, there's so many things to get to in
this show. I'm recording this right now on the Tuesday.
I'm sorry I didn't get this out at night, which
would let you listen to it on a Tuesday, but
I had an exam this morning, so I had to
I had to get this out to you.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Today.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
So yeah, that's just kind of the way that things
worked out.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
But yeah, you know how just.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
Let's let's let's get started here with the NFL, I mean,
this was a great divisional weekend. Unfortunately my Los Angeles
Rams ended up losing, but we have some fun divisional
We made some fun divisional round matchups and uh, we
get to go to the conference the finals, the semifinals now,
so you know it's uh, it's it's gonna be a

(01:28):
fun two games for sure. But it's too bad my
Rams weren't in it, because I thought they they could
have they could have ended up in it, and you know,
we'll get to them in a second. But there's so
many things I have to say about them.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
They looked pretty good. They got a bright future. But yeah,
well we'll save that for the bit. Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
The other's played a night, So I'm recording this episode
during the day and then the Oilers episode after the game,
because there's a lot to get to about the Edmonton
Oilers as well. So if you want to skip to
that and don't want to listen to the NFL part,
let's you just like watching hockey, you can just go
in the description and click on the timer for that one.
But yeah, let's get started here. We're gonna start with

(02:11):
the Saturday started off the Chiefs with a victory twenty
three to fourteen over the Texans. The Chiefs, Oh my gosh,
where do I even start with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Mahomes gets it done again. I mean I should have

(02:31):
put like eighty dollars on the Chiefs. I'm kidding, I
can't bet, but yeah, if you were someone who actually
was able to bet, you should just put all your
money on the Chiefs, cause.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
You know they were going to win this game.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
No matter what, Mahomes only threw for one hundred and
seventy seven yards and one passing touchdown.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Travis Kelcey the usual.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
His fourteenth straight game with one hundred and seventeen or
excuse me, with seventy receiving yards or more. Seven fourteenth
straight game with seventy receiving yards or more.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
He's a playoff beast.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
And to be honest, the Texans defense looked really good
other than the.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
Fact they forgot about Travis Kelcey.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
So again, I thought they played an excellent game, and
they definitely had some calls that we're gonna get into
that were unbelievable. I can't watch. I hate the Chiefs.
I can't watch football. See Mahomes just dive. He'll like
stand there waiting to get hits and then oh there's
the flag.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
There's my boys. The Rafts, they're gonna get me their call.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
So, I mean, I'm so down with the Chiefs, but
you know, they keep finding ways to win.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
CJ. Stroud looked pretty good in that game.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Two hundred and forty five passing yards, no passing touchdowns,
But he looked really good in this football game. To
be completely honest, there's not much else I can say
about that. He again, they they went one for three
in the red zone, which is always a problem against
the Chiefs, and can't Kaimi Fairbairn two for three from

(04:09):
extra point and missed or over one for extra point
and missed a field goal. So there's four missed points
right there. And uh, if you're gonna miss those points
and not convert in the red zone, you're.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
Gonna lose to the Chiefs. It's simple as that. And
take and have the refs on your side. That's another
thing to add.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
But yeah, the Chiefs. I mean, I'm done with with
the refs for them because we saw the first one
of fifteen yard penalty on will Anderson after he hit
Mahomes directly after and I don't understand that, like they're

(04:53):
sayings because he got up high, but I mean Mahomes
didn't take it them the head. He was hit right
after he threw That was not That's such a brutal call.
I don't know how they call that, but I guess
because he's one of the best players in the league,
they're gonna call it right, which I guess we see

(05:14):
with McDavid, but we'll get into that and the oilers later,
but I mean protecting the Superstars. The NFL does it
the most. And yeah, it was pretty brutal, taking some
brutal penalties and there's some miss calls for the Texans
as well, so I think it was it was a
combination of them not being good on special teams and

(05:37):
then not converting in the red zone, and then you
know the refs being the other side. I think if
you're better on special teams and you convert at least
one more time in the red zone, you probably win.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
This football game.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
But again, you can't give the Chiefs your mistakes and
the ref's mistakes because they're gonna win the football game
every time.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
I think it's as simple as that.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
But yeah, the Chiefs, it was a closer game than
I kind of expected. The Texans had a decent show
in this playoffs, so I'll give them their credit there,
but again, they they're missing some wide receivers for sure.
I'm missing their two guys, Tank Dell and Stefan Diggs there.
So Joe Mixon had a great game as well, shout
out to him. One hundred yards, eighteen carries a touchdown

(06:23):
as well, so good game for him. Nico eighty one
yards as well. It's a great game for the Texans
by all means. You know, they battled. Moving on now
to the Commanders and Lions. I have so many things
to say about this game. This was just a crazy game.

(06:47):
The Commanders winning forty five to thirty one.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
Jaden Daniels is a beast, a beast like this guy
as a rookie. Is the first rookie in NFL history
to take his team to a conference final. Incredible, incredible stuff.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
He was a beast.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Three hundred passing yards, two passing touchdowns. He rushed for
fifty one yards as well. The man was doing everything.
Brian Robertson Junior finally seeing the end zone twice. Terry
McLaurin could not be stopped on a TV as well.
Diami Brown coming out of nowhere ninety eight yards six receptions.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
This guy was.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
By all means getting cut around the league after being
kind of a bust of a pick, but he's really
shown up these last two games. Austin Eckler had also
a pretty decent day, was helpful in the pass game,
but the big the big talk of the day was
the Lions. I mean Jade Daniels obviously big talk. So

(07:57):
seeing the Commanders get there. I said this on one
of my clips on Instagram and TikTok, the Commanders are
a threat, and I was right.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
I mean, what do you expect.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
They have a great quarterback, probably in my opinion, on
a top five quarterback right now.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
But we'll see how he does next year.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
Obviously, I don't want to get into that now because
see if they can find a way to get to
the super Bowl. But yeah, the Commander's big win. Let's
let's move on to Detroit Lions. Here Jared Goof three interceptions,
three hundred passing yards, a passing touchdown. They went three
for nine on third down, three for six in the
red zone. Jamier Gibbs a crazy day, one hundred and

(08:50):
seventy five yards total, two touchdowns, fourteen carries, one hundred
and five rushing yards. I don't know why the lines
were giving David Montgomery the ball at all heads seven
carries for twenty eight yards, so averaging four But that's
not terrible. But you have Jami or Gibbs who's averaging
eight rushing yards. You keep giving that guy the ball.

(09:12):
He only had fourteen carries. I think he give him
thirty carries and it is a much closer game. He
doubles carries, it's a much closer game.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
And then you can use Montgomery.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
But the line's defense is the biggest talk. I think
after beating the Vikings there was kind of more of
a showing like people were talking about them being some
or not acknowledging them as hurt, right, even though they

(09:44):
were hurt, and people realize that after But after beating
the Vikings and really stomping them, the defense played well,
which the Rams proved was very not hard to do.

Speaker 2 (09:57):
You know, That's kind of the way it wentz.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Their defense is just hurt, and when they're when you're
missing seven starters and then missing four backups as well,
you're not gonna win football games. I think it's pretty
simple as that. They did a good job with the
guys they had and still a big game from amonrat

(10:23):
eight receptions, one hundred and thirty seven yards, La Pattie
got in the end zone, Jmo eighty yards a touchdown
on one reception. But yeah, I mean they their defense
wasn't good enough. They didn't do the job in this one,
and they were missing guys in this game. So I

(10:43):
think when your defense is that hurt and you're letting
forty five points up, you're normally not gonna win.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
If your offense is throwing three interceptions.

Speaker 1 (10:51):
I'm not placing this entirely on Jared Goff, but he
didn't play well either. I think throwing in three interceptions
is what Jared Goff is in a playoff game. This
is why the Rams traded Jared Goff for people that
remember he's a regular season beast, but then when it
gets to this big game, it's not him.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
He's not great. So you know, the Lions they'll they'll
be definitely back.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
They'll probably win the NFC again next year, who knows,
but you know they're they're a beast of a team
and they'll be right back.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
So I mean, tough loss for the Lions. Defense is hurt.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
They played a great game, but again, the Commanders are
just about a team and their defense looked pretty good
as well, So you know, big signs for the Commanders.
Moving on to the Sunday, we can start with my Rams.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
Disappointing. That's the way I'll put it.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
Matt Stafford three D and twenty four yards, two passing touchdowns. Again,
looks really really good in these games. Pooka ninety seven yards,
six receptions, hiring nineteen carries, one hundred and six rushing yards.
Tyler Higby got in the end zone seven receptions fifty
four yards, so at least there was a bright spot there.
Cooper Cup five receptions sixty one d Rob three for

(12:14):
seventy four, so the ball was kind of spread around
to two got in the mix. Whittington, there was some
bright spots on the offense.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
It's part of the problem.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
They went six for sixteen on third down, and they
went two for five in the red zone. So again,
this is what I'm talking about. I think there was
there was. There's a few problems in this game. Some
of the penalties we took were not great, you know,
weren't great penalties, but some bright spots on the offense.

(12:48):
We're still looking good, still in elite offense, no matter what.
We came into Philadelphia in a snow game, which you know,
teams from California and hotspots around America don't play that
well in snow games, and I thought they played very
well offensively, they just weren't able to get it done.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
Until the end.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
They had a bit of a pushback, but you know,
if you don't block Jalen Carter, it's gonna gonna bite you.
So that's what happening. And you know they they battled,
but well enough. Joshua Cardy had a great game. Shout
out to him. I mean, he was great down the stretch,
so great draft picked by the Rams again, We're gonna
get into their drafting in a second, but he had

(13:30):
an excellent game. Two for two on field goals, two
for two on extra points. He didn't miss kicking the playoffs,
so that was huge for us. We were missing that kicking.
We probably lost to the lines last year because of
our kickings, so it was good to get him this year.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
He's been he was excellent down the stretch.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
Looking into I'm gonna get into one man, Kien Williams.
I'm done with the dude. Man. I like he's good,
but he fumbles.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
He fumbled twice, right, so.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
I'm done with him in the playoffs fumbling. He fumbled
against the Vikings as well. The Rams need another running back.
I know Blake Kworm gave him a showing, but we
were missing bright Blake Korm from getting hurt in the
Seahawks in the Seahawks game, but we can have guys fumbled,
so we're gonna need a second option.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
Kyron's kind of a goal line guy.

Speaker 1 (14:34):
He's a beast there, but we just need an all
around speedy guy who's just a little bit better in
terms of holding none to the football. Kyron's elite and
I know he's he's a top RB, but his problem
is fumbling, so.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
You know, we'll see how that goes. I'm sure the
Rams are gonna look into that. But he did his
drop this year. That's That's what I'll say.

Speaker 1 (15:02):
Cooper Cup. One last thing here about the Rams before
we get into their defense. That might have been his
last game as the Rams, so I mean shout out
to the guy. He's a beast as much as people
were saying he's washed, and you know, he wasn't getting
the ball, which is fair if you have Pooka Nakula.

(15:25):
But you know, he makes a lot of money, so
I'm not sure if he'll be back, and he says
he's gonna play, so he's back next year. I'm not
sure if the Rams might trade him. So I mean,
good for Cooper Cup. Looking back, would have been nice
to trade him at the at the before the deadline.

(15:46):
I know the Rams was started selling everyone, but he's
a He's a big piece in the culture as well,
which is another thing.

Speaker 2 (15:54):
Big piece.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
He's good friends with Stafford obviously, and good friends with Puka,
so that was big. I hope he stays to be
honest with you as much as he gets paid a lot.
He's just good around in that type stuff, so I
like him there. Stafford also said he's gonna evaluate his future,
but he said he's got some good football left in him.
So I spreppt to see Maggie staff back next year,

(16:16):
which is great.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
News for us.

Speaker 1 (16:19):
The Rams defense absolutely unbelievable. Jared Verse came out before
the game's saying, I hate the Green Jerseys, I hate
the Philly fans. He had two sacks in this game
the Rams played.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
I've been saying this, man.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
The Rams played the best O line in the Eagles
with four Pro Bowl selections an Eagles all line has
and we had seven sacks. I know hurts us a
little bit limited, but we got we got to them,
we got to them.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
So this this D line is so good. It's gonna
be so good.

Speaker 1 (16:51):
Jared Verse is doing this as a rookie, He's gonna
be absolutely disgusting. This whole line was very very good
in this game, and the future is bright. The secondary
had a decent game as well. I thought, so again
this this is gonna be a great defense, up and
coming young. Some great draft picks by this Rams team,

(17:13):
Very very hopeful for the future.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
The Eagles.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
The Philadelphia Eagles, I was impressed by their defense. The
defense played very well against the Rams offense. Jalen Carter
two sacks in this one. That was their mid five
in the game. But I mean Jalen Carter end of
the game, so probaps to him. He's a beast there.
They have a great defense, that's their really core of

(17:41):
their teams. So they battled hard. They almost choked it
at the end, but they were able to do it.
The offense though, Sakuon Barkley, this is really the only
guy I have to talk about. Two and thirty two
totally yards, two touchdowns, twenty six carries. I mean, the
guy's the beast. He ran all over the Rams again,
which was gonna happen. I knew it was gonna happen.

(18:02):
The Rams run defense is not great and sick one
just likes it. So he had quite a game, Jalen hurts.
I mean he only threw one hundred and twenty eight yards.
The guy's average. I mean the highest receiving player is
fifty six yards from Dallas Good here, so aj Brown

(18:23):
ghost again fourteen yards, two receptions. This is just I mean,
the Rams could have won this game. They went over
to in the red zone, so all their touchdowns were
coming on long runs. And yeah, the Rams could have
won it. Won this game. The Eagles they don't look

(18:43):
that good. I take the Commander's next round. I take
the Commanders over the Eagles, and you know, their offense
just doesn't do enough for me. I know the Eagles
defense is good, they almost choked it in the end.
And I love Matthew Stafford, but he's not as good
as Jayden Daniels. So that team over there is really
really good offensively, and I'd be worried about them if

(19:04):
if I was the Eagles. Yeah, that's really all I
got to say about this game. It's just kind of
a sad game for me. Tough to watch, but you
know the Boys will be back for sure. Ravens and
Bills Bills taking the game of the night twenty seven
to twenty five. The big talk was the Ravens of

(19:26):
course in this one, but Lamar Jackson fumbling and throwing
a really really brutal interception. He did have two hundred
and fifty four passing yards and two passing touchdowns, but those.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
Two turnovers kind of started it for them.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
Derrick Henry didn't even have that big of a game,
sixteen carries, eighty four yards. The rushing game was actually
decent for the Bills.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
I mean, I mean.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
For for the Ravens. So it wasn't as good as
I thought I would be. But yeah, Isaiah likely had
a good game seventy three yards, four receptions to touch
then with Shat Bateman sixty six touchdown, four receptions, and
then we can get to the man in himself, Mark
Andrews drop dropping the game winning touchdown and also fumbling

(20:13):
in the game. If you have three turnovers and you're
dropping the biggest play of the game, which is a
two point conversion, he catches and they win the game.
I think the Ravens, I know, there's a lot of
blame when Mark Andrews not getting the two point conversion
would have went to overtime, but.

Speaker 2 (20:31):
It might not have.

Speaker 1 (20:32):
If the Bills got they still had some time on
the clock to go score. But Mark Andrews, I mean,
that's just too bad. I placed a lot of blame
though on the turnovers, Mark Andrews fumbling. Lamar fumbled and
put the Bills in great scoring position as von Miller
scooped it, but Lamar.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
Again, they just can't figure out the playoffs. Man.

Speaker 1 (20:57):
The Ravens will be back obviously next year, and they're
so good, such a good team.

Speaker 2 (21:02):
But you know, one of these two teams was going
to get upset and one of them was going to have.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
To go home and feel this. So either way, the
media would have been all over them. So the Rams
were just the team to fall in this one. And
defense played okay, but only getting one sack on Lamar
on Josh Allen.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
Is not going to get the job done.

Speaker 1 (21:24):
Looking over at the Bills, they didn't even have that
great of a game, to be completely honest. Their offense
was kind of average. Josh Allen obviously not average. He
only passed one hundred and twenty seven yards, but again,
the man, the man is a beast. Jams Cuk had
a day. It was really the Bills defense that had
a great game.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
Looking at all the.

Speaker 1 (21:43):
Stats, the ball got spread around a lot. Amari Cooper
didn't even get a catch in this one, which was wild.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
Tyler Bass did have a good day, but.

Speaker 1 (21:52):
The defense putting the offense in good positions on the
field allowed them to win this game. So you know,
they did their job and we're in the right spots.
So the defense did the job and the Bills won
this game. I mean, I'm not incredibly excited about the

(22:14):
Bills going to next week either.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
It's gonna be.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
Interesting to see how their offensive plays next week because
if they have performance like this, I probably have the Chiefs.

Speaker 2 (22:27):
Sorry, I'm pretty tired. I woke up pretty early for
my exam.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
But yeah, the Bills, I'm really cheering for them over
the Chiefs. I mean, please, I don't want the Chiefs
back in the super Bowl. But yeah, you know it
should be a fun game whatever really happens. So yeah,
that was kind of my recap there. We're gonna look
forward into the future Bills and Chiefs. Like I said,

(22:52):
that's at four thirty on Sunday Mountain time. I have
the Bills in this one. I think they're the better team,
and the Chiefs again, they're if they got the rest
to them, though, who knows what's gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
But I have the Bills.

Speaker 1 (23:04):
That should be a fun game, a rematch of what
happened last time with the thirteen seconds pass up the
middle of Travis Kelsey, and then at one PM the
Commanders and the Eagles. I have the Commanders in this one.
I don't think the Eagles showed to me enough that
they are a Super Bowl team. The Rams, in my opinion,
should have won the football game so close. They're gonna

(23:25):
be right back there next year, hopefully. But the NFC
West is going to get better for the Rams harder,
and the NFC East is gonna get tougher for the Eagles.
So I don't love the Eagles in this spot. I
like the Commanders in this one. So I have Bills
Commanders in Super Bowl. I did have Bill's lines originally
that was my original pick.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
But you know, close.

Speaker 1 (23:45):
Enough, we'll get into a few other things, because there's
a lot of things that happened in the world of sports.
You know, there's a few things the Oilers thing we're
gonna say about Connor McDavid in three games suspension for

(24:05):
the Oilers part of this. But yeah, uh well what
should I start with here? I'm just thinking about it. Yeah,
Ben Johnson the offensive coordinator for the lines, which is
kind of the biggest head coaching target since McVeigh Shanahan
type type thing. He ends up signing with the Bears

(24:28):
as the head coach after the Bears need an offensive
head coach for Caleb Williams.

Speaker 2 (24:33):
So next year's gonna be the test. Can the Bears
figure it out? I don't know. They are a terrible
organization right now. They're a bad organization bat owners. So
we'll see if.

Speaker 1 (24:46):
They can figure this out. Ryan Poles put their money
money on the line and gage and said Ben Johnson,
come to the come to this great situation. You have
a great offense, a good young quarterback.

Speaker 2 (24:57):
Let's see if they can figure it out.

Speaker 1 (24:59):
I don't know, because if if things could have gone
way differently that year, they had many more wins than
they They should have had many more wins.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
Than they did.

Speaker 1 (25:09):
I mean, the Hill Mary started it all, and then
they had the game against Detroit where Matt Eberflus got fired.
So things are looking good for uh, the Bears. We'll
see if that actually stays in check. Who knows how
how long that is. I'm just thinking here, and a

(25:33):
few other things. The Blue Jays signing Anthony Santander. A
pile of money was thrown at Anthony Santander. I know
we're transitioning to baseball, which I don't love at this
time in this time of year. But Anthony Santander third
and home runs last year hit forty four jacks. I

(25:54):
like this signing the Blue just get a clean a pile.
But my only album with it is they're gonna need
something else, Like if they're just signing Anthony Tandera, they
need more, they need another bat.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
Because Anthony Santander is slow. He's just a DH He's
just out there to hit bombs.

Speaker 1 (26:13):
So if if he's hitting bombs, I mean, hey, that's fine,
it's worth the money. The Blue Jays need guys who
can hit bombs. But if he's not, then it's it's
a total waste of money. So he if he's hitting
more home runs, then a lot more home runs in
the average player.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
I'm fine with that. We're good, we're chilling, But again,
it can be a bit of a risk. Because he
is agent.

Speaker 1 (26:37):
He is thirty Luckily he's not like thirty five. But
I mean, hey, hopefully this isn't turnout like what the
Springer's contract has turned out to be.

Speaker 2 (26:48):
Holy, I just dropped my phone.

Speaker 1 (26:52):
I'm just thinking anything else that I missed here in
the news. Uh, the Orders did sign on Clinburg, which
we were going.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
To get to in a little bit.

Speaker 1 (27:08):
I think that was everything that I needed to say. Yeah,
I don't know if I I don't think I saw
anything else. Uh, the National Championship, that's one thing that
I wanted to get to. Ohio State winning Big Shock
wasn't really much of a game, but they deserve to
win the game. They're the better team than the Irish.

(27:30):
So that's all I gotta say about that. OSU better team.
They won the game.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (27:38):
Other than that, that was kind of all I wanted
to get into for today. We kind of have a
bit of an exciting Oh yeah. The other thing Roki
Sasaki and the Blue Jays.

Speaker 2 (27:51):
Are you serious?

Speaker 1 (27:53):
We got luckily we got some good news with Santander,
but Sasaki, like.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
You gotta be serious.

Speaker 1 (28:02):
The Blue Jays Ross Atkins needs to go getting snubbed again.
By another free agent and going to the Dodgers. I
knew it was gonna happen. I told myself it was
gonna happen. I still had some hope because the Blue
Jays traded for Miles Straw, who is a minor leaguer

(28:22):
who has a massive contract, but they got some extra
international signing money. They're the second highest payroll in baseball
right now. That means they should be playing pretty well.

Speaker 2 (28:36):
We'll see if that actually happens because Bow.

Speaker 1 (28:40):
And Spring are gonna have to have a decent year
if the Blue Jays want to get back in the playasts.
I know bo I got high expectations for Bow this year.
Hopefully he can bounce back. But this is a team
that spends a lot of money and hasn't got any
free agents other than Santandeo this year. So I guess
we're gonna see if they they're in the mix on Alonso,

(29:02):
that's the big rumor that's going on. But we'll see
is there in the mix on some guys that are
still sitting around. We get one more big guy, We're
definitely a contender in terms of playoffs. Who knows what
happens when we get there. The starting rotation is good enough,
the pen's good enough, but again, if we want this
team to be real, we need another bat.

Speaker 2 (29:24):
So that's all I really got to say.

Speaker 1 (29:26):
On the Toronto Blue Jays, I don't want to get
into them too much, but yeah, another thing, the CFL
schedule did come out, which I'm gonna be talking a
lot of CFL this summer because again I love the
Elks and get to go to most of the games
as I'm getting season tickets. But yeah, the schedule came out.

(29:49):
I think the the Elks first game June fourteenth, which
is the latest home opener out of all of them.

Speaker 2 (29:56):
But yeah, you know, the Elks. Hopefully they have a
good season this year.

Speaker 1 (30:05):
I got some decent expectations for them as well, and uh,
hopefully they get the job done because it's been kind
of born watching them these last few years not really
do anything, and I actually cheer for them.

Speaker 2 (30:20):
I'm a fan, and you know, I'm I'm excited for
the for the future of trey Ford.

Speaker 1 (30:26):
But yeah, let's let's let's do our ice and fire
the weeknd wild card of the week, our ice and
fire the week our ice is obviously gonna be the
Detroit Lions. After that big game, the fire or ice,
We're gonna have a tie. The Baltimore Ravens and the

(30:49):
Detroit Lions are on the ice. Probably more of the Baltimore Ravens,
I would say, because just of how beat up the
Detroit Lions were. So those are my two for the week.
My fire again for the second straight week, is the
Washington Commanders. Wow, Commanders really really have a shot for
the Super Bowl this year in my opinion, So that's

(31:11):
gonna be uh, it's gonna be a good one. And
then our wild card for the week. This was also
a tough one. I mean, looking into the world of
sports right now, there wasn't really like one that popped

(31:32):
clear to me. Yeah, like it's not been that one sided.

Speaker 2 (31:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (31:43):
I couldn't really find a wild card of the week
where there was a team where I was like, Wow,
this is a team that is actually doing well.

Speaker 2 (31:52):
I didn't really tell you.

Speaker 1 (31:53):
So yeah, I don't really have a wild Card of
the week this week. I mean I could say the
Commanders again, but what's the fun that I mean there,
I'm high on the Commander you heard it this episode.
So yeah, anyways, I'm just gonna This is the end
of this segment. The Oilers play tonight at seven pm

(32:14):
against the Capitals, which is the big game, missing Connor
McDavid as well, so we'll get into the Oilers segment
after be twenty minutes segment is so yeah, again, enjoy
the rest of the show here. I'm I'm gonna enjoy
the rest of my day and then watch a Funnel
Others game tonight. So yeah, yeah, welcome back after the

(32:43):
break man O man was I was.

Speaker 2 (32:47):
It's the next day now, so I was a little.

Speaker 1 (32:50):
Tired last night to get the the second part of
this out. So my episode this week is gonna be
a little late, which is unfortunate. But you know, it
was a a tough loss for the Oilers, missing their
captain tonight, missing i mean, the best player in the world.
So they end up losing thirty two against the Capitols.

(33:14):
Logan Thompson saves thirty two. I mean, man o man
is he is? He ad Be Skinner with an absolutely
horrific game, only fourteen shots and they ended up scoring three.
So it was not his his his hockey game in
this one. But again it's Stuart Skinner, So what do
you expect I mean, the guy is not that good
from what I've been saying, he's I mean, these are

(33:38):
the type of games that I'm talking about right, Like,
it would would be so great to have a huge
win without McDavid over the Capitals, who are really been
on fire, and we outplay them without McDavid. Imagine we
had McDavid in this one.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
It would be a It would be a fast I'll
tell you that.

Speaker 1 (33:58):
But let's get into it the starting off, the Oilers
since we've done the last episode have been.

Speaker 2 (34:07):
Up and down.

Speaker 1 (34:08):
Obviously the Canucks, which we'll get into the McDavid incident
in the second they end up losing three to two.
They beat the Avalanche and the Wild four to three
and five threes, so it was a great ending. They
beat the Kings, the Wild and then the Aves, so
all huge victories for the Oilers.

Speaker 2 (34:26):
So they were on fire.

Speaker 1 (34:29):
And then obviously the McDavid incident and then losing last night,
so the Pacific Division wasn't playing that well, so the
others climbed a little bit. They were to a few
points behind Vegas, and I'm pretty sure Vegas won last
night that they even played. No, they didn't even play
but looking at the standings right now, the Oilers are

(34:51):
one point behind Vegas. Vegas is four and six in
the last ten. The Oilers are seven and three. The
Kings are six and four in their last ten. They
are solid six points behind the Kings, and the Flames
are obviously a weigh ten points behind the Oilers. The
Cannucks are one point out.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
Of a playoff spot. So that's kind of the Pacific
Division right now.

Speaker 1 (35:12):
So the Oilers are one point behind Vegas, which is
huge because Vegas has just.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
Been on a fall. So it's okay if the Oilers
lose a few games.

Speaker 1 (35:19):
But again, you could have taken the top spot in
the West last night if you would have won, right,
So that would have been huge. And I mean it'd
be nice for the Oilers not to play the La
Kings again. That would really suck, you know, Like I
don't really want to play the La Kings.

Speaker 2 (35:35):
I don't like the La Kings and.

Speaker 1 (35:36):
It's such a boring series, Like they do the same boring,
stupid stuff every year and it's just I hate it.
I don't want to watch that series if it ends
up happening. But I would much rather play Callery I mean,
I know you'd have to play the Avs as well,
but I might want to play the APS. To be honest,

(35:57):
I think we could beat the Avs. I know they
got some great guys, but they're the way their team
is built.

Speaker 2 (36:05):
I like Bilers.

Speaker 1 (36:06):
Right now, let's get into the McDavid incident, McDavid cross
checking Connor Garland in the face and getting a three
game suspension. At the same time that that was happening,
Evan Bouchhard got cross checked by Tyler Myers, who's a
six foot I think nine beast of a defenseman. So
both of those guys get three games.

Speaker 2 (36:27):
This is wild.

Speaker 1 (36:28):
I did not expect it to be three. I thought
it was gonna be like one or two. But I mean,
I think.

Speaker 2 (36:35):
It's a lot of frustration from McDavid. That's the that's
the way to put it.

Speaker 1 (36:40):
I mean, he's unfortunately the kid is been getting beat up.
He got slew footed by Kempe and he only got
a fine. He's a hundredth on the list of drawn penalties.
So the best player in the world is normally top
ten and he's a this year. So there's some frustration

(37:02):
there for sure. But yeah, I think just threw out
the game pretty some frustration, and it kind of built
up to that, so I didn't really expect there to
be three games. He also got away with that elbow
on Forrestburgh last week, which I'm not there's a lot
of debate that was purposeful. I mean, I think it

(37:22):
was purposeful. It was clear he threw his elbow out there,
and I think he's just fed up with the way
that the penalties.

Speaker 2 (37:30):
Have been going. And he's the best player in the world.

Speaker 1 (37:32):
So there's a lot of talk about protecting your best
players as well, and I mean we saw it with
the Chiefs last week in ma Homes. They protect the
best players in the league. So the NHL, I mean,
they seem to not really do.

Speaker 2 (37:46):
That as much.

Speaker 1 (37:47):
H Cambay only got a five thousand dollars fine for
slew footing the best player in the world, and McDavid
got three games for a guy who was holding him
in the last twenty seconds of the game when they
had the mpty net, which is again very smart play
by him. I mean, no one's ever thought of that
hold the guy down. You'd take the delayed penalty, but

(38:09):
there's thirty seconds or like fifteen seconds left, So the
guy really smart.

Speaker 2 (38:14):
Carnegarland great player, the oilers.

Speaker 1 (38:15):
Could use that, but again he's a bit of a rat,
so it's too bad. But the funny part is the
Oilers are playing Vancouver on Thursday, so as I released
this episode on Wednesday, they're playing them on Thursday. So
again there could be some fighting going on because of

(38:37):
what ended up happening. But yeah, the other thing that
happened with the Emonton Oilers this week was signing John Klimberg,
which I mean it was a million dollar deal with
a three hundred and fifty k bonus attached to it.
Island's pretty happy with the signing, to be completely honest.
There's a lot of debate on you know, is there

(38:57):
really a point of this, But.

Speaker 2 (38:59):
I mean, the guy was a stud.

Speaker 1 (39:02):
He was a stud when he played for the Stars
back a few years ago. But unfortunately that was a
few years ago and he ended up getting hip surgery
and he said this is what he said though, he
said he was really struggling with his hip and was
struggling on the defensive side of the game with his
last few years with the Leaves and the Ducks.

Speaker 2 (39:23):
So again, I mean the Oilers get the guy. And
he was.

Speaker 1 (39:28):
Saying that his hips never felt better and he feels
like he can move very very well. So that's a
great sign. I mean, we'll see how much that comes
into play. We'll see where he gets put up. I mean,
obviously they can't put him out there with Bouchard. They're
both going to be offensive defenseman. But again, if he
can be a solid guy who can produce a little

(39:48):
bit offensively, or even be any what close if he
was one fourth to what he was, I would be happy.
So either way, I mean, you're getting a shot at
a guy where you're like, hey, this is a great
d man, right, and if he really turns out, maybe

(40:09):
you don't have to go get someone at the deadline.
But you have to think this isn't gonna be my
only play for the deadline. You're wanting to get another
defenseman who I think it's tough to find a guy,
but another at home would be lovely.

Speaker 2 (40:25):
I think would easily win the Cup. We got another
at home, just double up at home, just put him
on the right side and we win. We win the Cup.

Speaker 1 (40:32):
Or I mean, the forward group is so good, I
don't a bottom six guy who can win draws and
fight and is gritty.

Speaker 2 (40:42):
Maybe that, but I don't know.

Speaker 1 (40:44):
Man Like, they have such a good forward group, they
can move guys around, and again they're they're a great teams.
So we'll see what ends up happening with that. We'll
see how Clinberg plays. He's supposed to be cleared sometime
next week to get in the line, so maybe before
in my episode next week, we'll see how he does.

(41:04):
But yeah, other than that, I mean, the Edmonton Oilers
are great, great hockey club. I didn't want to go
on too long about this team. I didn't see anything.
I did see some news this morning. Jets are hiring
former Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn as their new head coach.

(41:25):
So the Lions lose their offensive.

Speaker 2 (41:27):
Coordinator and defensive coordinator. So that's pretty funny.

Speaker 1 (41:30):
I mean, they're gonna I mean, I'm sure the fine
guys because they're such a good team. But it's pretty
awesome to see, you know, it's pretty wild. Other than that,
I didn't really see any news. I did see a

(41:54):
crazy stat McDavid. This is pretty crazy.

Speaker 2 (41:59):
McDavid would be he first placed on twelve different teams
in all time scoring, second place on eleven different teams,
third place on three different teams, and top five on
every team for scoring wild and he's not even thirty,
So that really shows a lot about it. I mean.

Speaker 1 (42:25):
It's quite something. So yeah, other than that's again, it's
a fun week of sports.

Speaker 2 (42:34):
This week.

Speaker 1 (42:35):
We have some exciting games, so we'll see. I mean,
the Blue Jays are in some more rumors which I
don't even want to get into today, see if they
get another guy, which should be huge. But yeah, other
than that, I think that's that's good for today.

Speaker 2 (42:54):
Thank you for listening, watching and doing whatever you do.

Speaker 1 (42:57):
But again, it was a oh my gosh, there's my
hair is messed up. It was a fun episode today
or yesterday and today I'm still kind of a sleepy
guy this morning, but yeah, it was a lot of fun.
Next week i'd like to get a guest. Connor Hallie's
likely gonna be on next week, so that will be
fun to get the super Bowl preview. And then the

(43:19):
week after that, I'd like to do some kind of
some historical NFL stuff, some debates, get some questions down
and talk about what I think. But yeah, we should
have a fun few episodes coming up. Here so look
forward to that. Anyways, enjoy the games this weekend. Go
Edmonton Oilers, Go anyone but the Chiefs. That's all I
gotta say. Peace out.
