Speaker 1 (00:05):
You are listening to The Manning Show with You and Manning,
your number one sports podcast starts now. The Edmonton Oilers
fall in another big game against the Vancouver Canucks by
(00:26):
the score of three to two, the Canucks coming back
to win the game. Sorry, we'll turn off my notifications.
But Wheler's struggling to get scoring from the top lines,
and it was a painful game to watch as an
Whithers fan, and I'm I'm sure all Weathers fans could
(00:48):
admit that, but it was really really difficult to watch.
I enjoyed the game very much, so it was entertaining,
but it was not a game where I was like,
we were gonna win this game. When I was watching it
was it was very much controlled by the Vancouver Canucks.
(01:10):
Oilers had a good first period. Evander Kaine gets them
on the board first. Vibes are high, but then things
started to kind of turn in the other direction later
in that first period. Then the Canucks in the second
just took total control. They score Susie with an absolute
snipe when he comes back into the lineup. It was
his first game. Don't really blame Pickard on that one.
(01:31):
It was good shot. I don't know where the guy
was who was supposed to cover him. And then you
see a Brown Mark a beauty passed by Connor Brown
to yan Mark to tap it in. There's our depth
scoring Evander Kaine, yan Mark. Things are looking good. We're
up two to one, and the pressure just kept coming
from the Canucks. They were dominating. Elias Patterson looked a
(01:52):
lot better in that game. Then they come back, they
get a bounce and they tie it up. Just really
unfortunate for the Oilers to tie it up. It was
basically dominated by Canucks. In the third period, Oilers made
a bunch of lucky plays that you know, pulling pocks
(02:12):
out of their own net, maybe on the goal line,
and that's what Vinnie did on one of them earlier
in the game. And at the end goes off Elise
Patterson Elliots Patterson's skate, which he looked like he tried
to kick it. I'm kind of a lot of the
reporters were saying they were happy didn't go in, because
that would have been the talking point. The rafts were
probably in favor of the Oilers last night. There was
(02:34):
a bunch of calls that did not go to the Canucks.
Ways like the charging call, which was tough. We'll get
into that, but overall, just they get lucky with a
lucky bounce off the post. JT. Miller puts it in
the empty net and with thirty one seconds. My friends
and I were already thinking about overtime and thirty one seconds.
(03:00):
That's two late goals in the last two games to
win them. The game was just overall a really really
tough game at the end for Whilers fans. And now
you have to know that you have to win too straight,
which I think looking at it too straight is tough.
I still have faith in this team. This morning I
(03:22):
probably didn't have as much faith. Right now, I'm feeling
a little bit better about it, for sure. As the
days went on, I've kind of listened to some shows,
listen to the optimism because this team's been in this
before last year, and this is the talk the experience,
the putof experience. The Canucks don't have it. But now
(03:42):
you have to just use this experience that you have
last year. Win the game at home. What you gotta
do tomorrow tomorrow at six is the game, and gotta
win that game. Nice to be able to win it handily.
See who starts in net there see if the lineups
get moved around. We'll get into that in a little bit,
but you have to win that game, go into game seven,
(04:08):
and it's just a flip of a coin from there.
Really it's both teams are gonna be playing hard that game,
and you're gonna need your best guys to show up.
McDavid and Drysidle were very very quiet. So is the
power play. McDavid looked like a ghost out there. I mean,
normally I don't discredit McDavid, but he was brutal last night.
(04:28):
There's he was minus two on the night, probably two
of them. Two the goals were partly his fault. The
last one for sure. He's got to take JT. I
know he's a little bit lower, but you gotta be
at least to stick length away. It's just really, really
a difficult loss. And they didn't deserve to win the game.
(04:49):
The Canucks deserve to win the game. And that was
the point I was getting to last game. Canucks fans
were complaining, I'm like, we deserve to win this game.
If we would have won last game last night, I
would have been like, that was a game that the
connectors deserve to win. Now, maybe if we score two
goals out of five on the power play, maybe we're
talking about different, different story. We're up going back home.
(05:12):
So it's really really difficult. I mean, they didn't deserve
to win, and the Canucks out played us. It was
as simple as that. But yeah, we can kind of
jump in here to the charging call on Elias Peterson.
He played very well, just overall, a great game for him.
He finds a way to put in, He finds a
(05:35):
way to get the puck on that he had multiple shots.
But the charging call on foe goal, the rule is
that you can't jump, but I don't know, like, is
that what the ref saw? This is where I'd like
to see what the ref saw, But I think the
jump that's probably what they're gonna say because he jumped,
(05:58):
but I don't know, because he kind of just stood
him up. Fogel was going for the hit as well.
I don't really know if I would if I would
call that. I think it was just a big hit
by Peterson. Maybe the jump is why they called it.
But Petterson, but Fogel was going for the hit and
then he got knocked down. The jump maybe is the
(06:19):
reason why they called it, but it's definitely difficult call.
I know there's a lot of Canucks fans that were
unhappy about it, but it was a jump, so I
don't know if I would have called that or not.
I probably wouldn't have called that if I was on
the ice, but I guess he saw it. That rep
(06:39):
saw it differently, and we got on the power play.
At the end of the day, it didn't matter because
we were zero for five, so it didn't matter, and
the penalties were in our favor and we finally the
refs gave us some calls, give some calls on McDavid.
McDavid kind of looks slow as well. He doesn't really
look like himself. There's reports that he was dealing with
(07:01):
something earlier today, him and Hymen, which could be true,
which everyone's dealing with something at this point, but you
never know. We'll be interested intrigued to see if Adam
Henriek is in the lineup tomorrow. He's been skating with
the team, just hasn't been doing apparently heard skating like
(07:24):
line charges and stuff. So we'll see if he's in
and he's ready to go. A deadline acquisition that's probably
a huge loss for the Oilers in terms of scoring
and the ability to split drying McDavid up and move
the lines around. So that's definitely an important piece that
we've lost. But we get our depth scoring, can't score
(07:47):
in the power play, and they find a way to
beat us. Stay out plaus I think Calvid Pickard was
very solid. I think he have to give him the
start on Saturday. It's definitely gonna be a talking point,
but they can start skinner Man. Pickard was so solid.
He was the only guy that showed up. Both the
goals were bad bounces. I don't I don't blame him
(08:10):
for well the second. The first goal wasn't a bad balance,
it was a snipe, But I don't blame Hi. There's
a lot of bondies. He had a nine to one four.
He gave us a chance to win the game, and
there's no means if skinner was in the net playing
like how he was, that game would have been over
before it started. So it's just it's just frustrating that
(08:33):
we finally get a good goal, like solid goaltending performance.
It gives us a chance to win the game and
we play like that. It's probably the worst game we've
played in the playoffs, in the most important game in
the playoffs, and you're talking about the into the playoffs,
you're talking about all this, You're talking about the Oilers
having all this playoff experience and then in the biggest
(08:56):
game of the year, they go and play like that,
Like you gotta be kidding me. They got it. They
have to learn from their mistakes last year, and now
they're down and they're in trouble. They got to find
a way to win at home tomorrow. If they can't,
then they're going home. It's as simple as that. They
(09:18):
gotta find ways and McDavid's gotta get going. That's you
gotta you gotta win the game. But it's just it's
just really tough. It's tough as an Oilers fan to
watch that game. Like I said many times, I was
really optimistic going to the game, and the Canucks looked
(09:41):
a lot better. I thought their dcor was really solid,
not allowing anyone to get to the middle. I thought
their top guys are really good. JT. Miller with another
great game, scoring the winning goal, and just a great
game from them. If the Canucks play like that again,
they look really good. They'd probably be the wis they
(10:03):
play like that again, right, so as long as they
keep putting pucks. I mean, pickered made the saves you
needed to save. I didn't think she Love was really good.
I mean the one that can scored wasn't a great goal.
We just didn't didn't have as many chances that we
would have liked, and didn't score the power play. I mean,
(10:25):
if you go zero for five, you're not gonna win
the game. If you're the Evingston orders, you get your
depth scoring and then your top guys aren't scoring. That's
been the talk. We need depth scoring, we need depth scoring.
We finally get depth scoring, and look what happens and
we lose. Right. So just the timing of this has
been really brutal. We get good goaltending and depth scoring,
but if the top guys aren't scoring, then it's done.
(10:47):
You need everything to come into a hockey game. Unless
you're just gonna get the top guys scoring all the goals.
We can stick with doing that and see how this
series goes. But last night was the night from McDavid
and drying the power play to go win them the
game in the first period, and they didn't. They just
got to be better. They got to be better. McDavid especially,
(11:08):
he didn't look great. I thought he was outplayed by
Miller and Patterson, as simple as that. But yeah, we
can kind of leave that on the Oilers. I mean tomorrow,
tomorrow night at six o'clock. I don't think there's gonna
be any lineup changes or moves. Maybe you get Kerrick
(11:31):
in the lineup. I don't know who you're gonna move
him for, but definitely could use him for sure. He's
throw a body around. That would be really helpful. That
would be that'd be huge if they could find a
(11:52):
way to get Krrick in the lineup, and hopefully our
guy Henry gets back in the lineup as well. So yeah,
the Oilers. Obviously tomorrow night at six o'clock Mountain time.
Right now, the Panthers and the Bruins are tied zero zero.
Marsh And is in the lineup. So by the time
you're done here on this, this game is probably over.
(12:14):
I mean, the Panthers move on Dallas and and the Avs.
The Aves are also trying to force a Game seven
against the Dallas Stars. Dallas is up three to two
in the series. It is in Colorado, tonight. I'm pretty sure. Yeah,
I'm pretty sure it's in Colorado tonight. But the Avs
(12:34):
looked really good last game, and they gotta they gotta
win it. It's as simple as that. They gotta win
win this game to keep it going. They've been suffering, obviously,
Nick Chushkin going back into the player assistance program even
though he's their leading scorer, so they're definitely gonna miss him.
(12:56):
The Blue Jays are playing the Raids there on the
top of the third right now. The Blue Jays. I mean,
we've got lots of time to talk about the Blue Jays,
so we're just we're not going to really get into
them because they are definitely struggling right now and there's
lots of playoff stuff going on, so we got all
summer to talk about them. The Knicks and the Pacers.
The Knicks leading the series three to two tonight at
(13:18):
six thirty PM, looking to move on to the next round,
Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since two thousands.
That's what I heard today, So that would be huge
for New York. Also talking about New York last night,
Chris Crider coming back to score a hat trick, a
(13:43):
natural hat trick in the third period to come back
and win the game against Carolina. I was playing three
on three hockey at that time, and one of my friends,
who is a Rangers fan, was keeping an eye on
the game the whole time, and it was like crowded, crowded,
Crowder and boom, they win, so big win for them.
(14:07):
Anderson just fell apart with an eight two six eight percentage.
Most of those goals were not great. I don't think
Anderson was that good and basically lost in the game.
But a good fight from the Hurricanes to come back
in that series down three to zero. They probably should
have forced the game seven. That would have been quite something.
(14:27):
In the NBA last night as well, the t Wolves
absolutely smoking. The Nuggets won fifteen to seventy. It was
like Yokich was the only guy to show up on
the Nuggets last night. Jamal Murray with ten I mean,
Jokic had twenty two and nine rebounds and they had
seventy points. They lost one fifteen to seventy. And of
course Anthony Edwards was twenty seven. I mean, he showed up.
(14:51):
So that Game seven is going to be on Sunday
at a two B determined time we don't know that yet,
but that's gonna be really exciting if it gets there.
I'm kind of hoping it does because how it would
be quite a game. And then tomorrow on Saturday as well,
at six pm, we got the Thunder and the MAVs.
The MAVs looking to take home send the Thunder home.
(15:13):
Kind of hoping for the Thunder because Sei Gilgess Alexander,
I like him, Canadian. We're hoping that Canadian athlete can
win that. And speaking of Boston, they just scored Pablo
Zaka with fifty three seconds left, so they're up one
nothing looking to force a game seven as well, so
hoping that they can actually force it. I'd be kind
(15:34):
of excited to watch that. I'm kind of hoping for
the Bruins a little bit. But just lots of sports
stuff going on, and obviously today is PJA Championship. Scottie
Scheffler getting arrested this morning in a traffic incidents and
(15:57):
he's getting put under charges and he's ended up playing today.
He got released and came in pretty crazy. I mean,
he got arrested, that was a talk. I woke up
and I see his mudshot and like, what is going on.
This is what he posted on Instagram on his story today.
(16:17):
This morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers.
It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so, considering the
tragic incident that had occurred earlier, and there was a
big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked
to do. I never intended to disregard any of the instructions.
I'm hopeful to put this on the side and focus
on golf today. Of course, all of us involved in
(16:38):
the tournament express our deep, deepest sympathies to the family
of the man who passed away in the earlier accident
this morning. It truly puts everything in perspective, so clearly
a misunderstanding. The condolences out to that man's family. Just
tragic stuff. So scottis Shcheffler. Kind of a chaotic situation,
(17:02):
but it was basically talks on something that happened. And
you know, traffic is is always dangerous, so that's good
to keep in mind when you know you're a pedestrian
and a driver, you want to give the right away
to the pedestrians. Obviously not old enough to have my
(17:23):
driver's license yet, but I got my learners, and you
just gotta know you got to be on the look
at all times and make sure that everything's safe before
you move. So that was definitely quite an interesting day
for Sports Boilers. Tomorrow night six, if they lose, we'll
(17:47):
probably get Connor Holly on the pod hopefully, and we'll
do an episode to kind of wrap it up, wrap
up the season. But if they're win, we'll be happy
and we'll be going to Game seven pretty excited, pretty
nervous as well. But this is the problem about not
winning game six or game five. Sorry, because you're coming
(18:08):
in nervous now. So well, I think we're gonna leave
it at that for today. I like the twenty minute episodes.
It's just short and sweet. It's good retention. But yeah,
this is a good Friday episode and we'll hopefully be
back next time. So see you. Thanks for listening to
