Speaker 1 (00:00):
For the Rams on a party poopy for Los Angeles
twenty three twenty is the final on their home field
here at so Fin Stadium. It's Super Bowl fifty six,
the Los Angeles World.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Three.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
This is The Manning Show with You and Manning please,
Number one sports podcast starts.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
Now, Episode forty the Big four zero. Welcome back to
The Manning Show. I am you and Manning your host
and man O man was It's a crazy super Bowl.
A lot to go over. It was a very boring
super Bowl, but it was good for the NFL fans,
not the Chiefs fans, the NFL fans. We will get

(01:11):
into that in a bit. We also have some Four
Nations to break down, got some Los Angeles Lakers stuff
to talk about as well. We have just some other
stuff going on as well. So it's gonna it'll be
a fun episode. Get to really dive down into the
end of the NFL season doing our Super Bowl recap,

(01:31):
and then obviously, like I said earlier, the Four Nations,
So let's dive right into it. I think we're gonna
start here with the Super Bowl because man oman was
this quite a game from start to finish. It was
fly Eagles, Fly and a huge, huge, huge victory for
the Eagles forty to twenty two. It realistically could have

(01:54):
been a bigger blowout than that as well. I mean, man,
these guys are incredible. I where to start Jalen Hurts.
Let's start with Jalen Hurts. Okay, Jalen Hurts two d
and twenty one passing yards, two passing touchdowns, an interception.

(02:17):
He ran for seventy two yards and this man went
off when his team needed him to seventy two rushing yards.
We have not seen him do that in a while,
and I think this is healthy Jalen Hurts. We got
to see healthy Jalen Hurts and he played his best
game in the season in the final game of the
season and did it for his team. Saekwon Barkley twenty

(02:41):
five carries for fifty seven yards. He was averaging two
point three a carry. That's his worst this year. Incredible
and when I mean the talk was well, the Chief
shut down the run. That was their entire offensive defensive
game plan. This is why the Eagles are so good,
their rosters so good. They have guys like the Vonte

(03:03):
Smith A J. Brown you can go deep to, you
have Jalen hurts his legs, which really really came into play,
and the offense didn't even get as many chances as
you would normally see them get in a normal football game.
The defense was incredible. We'll get to that in a second.

(03:26):
But it was crazy, man, crazy, crazy, crazy stuff. Jake
Elliott four for four on field goals, four for four
on extra points. They only had to punt twice. They
went two for three in the red zone. So the Eagles,
I mean it could have been more than forty It

(03:46):
realistically could have been sixty U saw field goals, they
punted twice, and other than that, they score points every
single drive, So they deserve to win this football game.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
Man.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
They outplay the Chiefs. We'll get to them in the second.
Let's move on to the defense here for the for
the Eagles, six sacks, a pick six, two interceptions should
have been three. Only two hundred and seventy five yards allowed,
which really was kind of because of garbage time. I'm
gonna say like one hundred and fifty yards allowed, which
is incredible. Man, oh man, uh crazy crazy stuff. Cooper

(04:27):
dejen the first white man to catch a pick six
in the Super Bowl. I swear breaking the color beerrier.
As some would say as a joke, what what a game?
I mean, Josh schweat two point five sacks. Williams had

(04:48):
a film recovery. I mean bomb had an interception. Like
they were all over the map. This Eagles defense shut down,
the Chiefs shut down, and they with the talk of
the day. I mean, the coaching from the Eagles was
eleast in this football game. Gotta give a big credit

(05:11):
to them. Nick Siriani is the most winning this coach
right now in the league, winning percentage wise, he is.
Every year he's been to the playoffs, last four, He's
got an NFC championship, a super Bowl championship. He's got
two NFC championship, super Bowl Championship, and four playoff appearances.

(05:31):
The guy is proven, legit. There was a lot of
talk about how this guy should have been fired last year,
and I will admit I was one of them. I
didn't think he was gonna get them over the hump
after what we saw with the Chiefs last time these
guys went to the super Bowl. But the Eagles got
it done. Man, they deserve to get it done, and
I mean credits to them. They were the much better

(05:53):
team in this football game, So you know, there's not
really much more to say about that. Crazy overall, they
deserve to win the football game. Better team. Jalen Hurts
played amazing. Sekwon didn't even really do much. He did
have ninety seven total yards, but that was because he

(06:14):
had a few deep receptions, so he had six receptions
for forty yards. The guy would have had fifteen fantasy
points still, so shout out to him. But the guy's beast.
Right Looking at the Chiefs, I mean, they didn't really
have much going Patrick Mahomes three passing touchdowns, two interceptions.

(06:35):
He didn't throw the three till the end of the
fourth quarter or the other two, so he really should
have had three interceptions as well. Xavier Worthy two touchdowns,
eight reception, one hundred and fifty seven yards. He was
really good the last two games. I know it was
in garbage time in the Super Bowl, but the guy
is gonna be good. He can run, man, so they're

(06:56):
finding ways to get that guy the football, and he
looked really, really good. That's really one of the only
bright spots of this game. The Chiefs offense did not
get past the fifty yard line until the third quarter,
which it was so weird, like I have never seen
a team that is that dominant. Is like, oh, here

(07:17):
they go again. Here, this team's gonna be right back
in the super Bowl and we're gonna have to go
through this all over again. And then they did nothing.
It was like, what is going on right now? I
didn't understand, man, excuse me. I mean, like Kelsey was brutal.

(07:38):
Mahomes' passing was absolutely terrible. He targeted like fifteen different guys,
like it was so brutal. They three for eleven on
third down is all you need. They only went to
the red zone once. They had three turnovers in the game,
like they're just it wasn't great. Mahomes fumbled as well,

(07:58):
Like they were brutal. And I know Mahomes will be
right back, but the Eagles defense made him run around.
It looked like when Brady played Mahomes in the Super
Bowl with the Bucks. I don't know if you recall,

(08:20):
but the box just had him running around in circles
the entire game, and that's what it looked like Mahomes.
It looked like to me, they had him just running around.
He had no idea where he was throwing the ball,
and that's what happened. He was making unaccurate throws, making
bad throws. He was brutal. Man. He wasn't good in
this football game and probably the worst game we've seen

(08:42):
him play. And you know, the defense wasn't much better.
I mean, they allowed a lot of points. They only
had one interception, which was I mean, they finally got
some pressure, which their whole game plan was to shut
down sai Quon Barkley, which they did. They shut down

(09:04):
Saquon Barkley. But the end of the day, Jalen Hurts
ran all over them. Many you forget about Jalen Hurts.
You're gonna lose a football game. Andy Reid said, out coached, out,
played out everything. And the Eagles did that. Man, they

(09:24):
deserve to win every single minute of this football game.
Not much to say more than that. The halftime show
absolutely brutal. No, I'm kidding. It was very good. I
enjoyed it, but I mean for the people that are
listening are probably older, they were like, what the heck's
going on with this? Like I don't really understand this

(09:45):
this type of music. So I enjoyed it, I thought
Kendrick Lamar was good. A lot of people said it
was the worst halftime show ever. There's a lot of
people that said it was the best. I saw a
lot of mixed opinions, so, I mean, overall, it was
a fun super Bowl, like in terms of the events
that happened the game. Overall, though it wasn't it was

(10:09):
pretty boring, Like it was probably the out of all
the Super Bowls I've watched, it was probably the number
two most boring. I don't know, it might have been
the worst just looking at it. I'll probably do my rankings.
I mean, I'll have a lot of ranking episodes as
the offseason goes on because there won't be as much
to talk about, right, But it's definitely top three and

(10:32):
most boring that I've watched. It was definitely, I mean,
the box Chief super Bowl. Everyone was kind of cheering
for the Chiefs and now it kind of turned around, right,
So it was boring, man, But like, what can I say?

(10:53):
The Chiefs are a good football team and they're gonna
be right back there next year. Unfortunately, I really want
to see someone else again, but you know, they'll probably
be right back there, which I hate to say it.
I don't want to say it like, but they're just

(11:13):
such a good football team and Mahomes played terrible and
everything went wrong, which again three and two doesn't look
We'll probably get into a player ranking at some point,
but Mahomes is not going to be the goat. I
hate to say it. I don't hate to say it
actually because I don't like Mahomes, but the guy three

(11:35):
and two the SAME's Tom Brady. But the difference is
Tom Brady beat Mahomes twice and came back from a
big deficit in the Super Bowl. If Mahomes does that,
I don't know if you can even still crown in
the goat. We'll see. I mean, he's still got a
lot of time, but I don't think personally. Hopefully this
doesn't like this clip doesn't get clipped and be like, oh,

(11:57):
well Mahome, Mahomes came back from down twenty five. I
was really worried going in the halftime. I was like
texting my friends, like, Hey, they're gonna come back in
this football game. But they didn't. They had nothing going
for them, So you know, it's Uh, it was a
fun NFL season. It's too bad. I wouldn't say it
was one of the more entertaining NFL seasons, but in

(12:20):
terms of just overall enjoyment for me, it was a
lot of fun. I'm kind of sad it's over because
now I have to wait till August, which is a pain.
But you know, Blue Jays baseball kind of gets started
up here soon. If the Elks getting started up soon.
Four Nations is about to happen. We'll jump into that
in about five minutes. And the Oilers are gonna get

(12:43):
their playoffs shot again. So there's a lot of exciting
March Madness is coming up. There's a lot of exciting
things coming up. But obviously NFL football is number one
in my eyes, and it's too bad that it's over.
It really goes so fast, so the quickest season out
of all this orts. So you know, we'll be back

(13:05):
next year with the Super Bowl. But what can you do.
I guess what can you do? You just gotta The
Elks are gonna give me that little bit of you know, football,
and hopefully my football as well will give me that
little bit. But yeah, I'm gonna miss I'm gonna miss it.

(13:25):
It was a lot of fun. It was a great year,
and basically have to move on with a good thing
another not another Patrick Mahomes Super Bowl. We we have
to listen to this again. But maybe Travis Kelsey retires.
Maybe we don't see him back either. That's the other
big thing that happened in this one. There was a

(13:49):
lot of talk about him retiring. Jason Kelsey went off
awful loss onto retirement. I mean, hey, good for the
Eagles man Kelsey. Maybe he's done, which would be a
big loss for the Chiefs. And I don't think it's
talked about as much. Just how he is as a
leader a little bit and his experience. They'd have to

(14:11):
find a guy to replace him. Their offense wouldn't be
the same. I guarantee that it takes away that threat entirely.
He did beat the old time reception record that he
beat Jerry Rice in the Super Bowl, So I mean
he's still he's a top three tight end of all time.
But the guy is probably running out of time, running

(14:33):
out of time, running out of time. Yeah. De Hop
got a touchdown on the Super Bowl and that's quite something.
He said after the game. He was talking about the refs.
He was like, oh, what about the reps. No, there's
a little bit of cheeky calls. It was forty to
twenty two man. The reps made a really brutal call

(14:56):
off the start by AJ Brown's catch that was called
offense pass interference. Everyone was losing their mind and we're like,
here we go again, and luckily Eagles didn't give them,
give them, didn't give the rest a chance. I think
that's what's gonna take. You have to get Mahomes out
of the pocket and then when he's out of the pocket,
get pressure immediately because when that happens, he starts making

(15:22):
decisions where he's just throwing it and praying. And when
you have Mahomes throwing and praying, that's how you know
you're gonna win a football game. So that's all it took.
I thought that Saquon was gonna find a way to
run all over them, but the Chiefs did everything in
their power to shut down the run. And what happens.
It opens up for an elite quarterback like Jalen Hurts,

(15:44):
who in my eyes now I see as elites because
he's able to get that job done. Like as much
as he doesn't step up like stat wise, when it
comes to him getting the chance to do that, he'll
pop off. I mean, they're they're a great team, and
they'll probably be right back in the mix next year.

(16:05):
The NFC is gonna get better, though, so it's gonna
be tough for them. Then the Lions are gonna be back.
The Rams are gonna be back. I mean, the Rams
put up a fight against them. Remember we got we
were down at the ten yard line. We could have
if we score a touchdown, we're going we might be
in the Super Bowl. We might have won the Super Bowl.

(16:26):
So obviously it's disappointed as a Rams fan, but the
Eagles were close to losing that game. They whooped the Packers,
they whooped the Commanders, and whooped the Chiefs. The Rams
put up a fight, so that kind of makes me proud.
We lost to the eventual Super Bowl winner. The Rams
are a decent team, so you know, the NFC is

(16:47):
gonna get better. The Vikings will probably be back, We'll see,
the Packers will be back. I mean, the Cowboys might
be back, The Niners might be back. The NFC is
gonna get better, so it's gonna be tougher for the
Eagles to do it again, but they're gonna be right
back in the mix with the same team. They got
a lot of young guys on that defense who were

(17:08):
gonna get better as well, so there's just a step
ahead with more experience as well. So yeah, pretty exciting
stuff if you're an Eagles fan. That pretty much does it.
I mean, I'm pretty sad that this is all over,
but that was everything I saw in terms of, you know,
there's a lot of stuff on Saquon and him leaving,

(17:29):
finally getting his first Super Bowl, but yeah, I mean,
you know, it was quite the day. Yeah, I got
nothing else, say, six punts for Matta Rizia and for
the Chiefs. They didn't even get a chance in this one.
So congratulations with the Eagles. Let's kind of move it

(17:52):
on here. Let's get into the Four Nations Tournament. I'm
gonna make my predictions for the Four Nations Tournament. Exciting stuff,
very exciting stuff coming up here. Canada taking on Sweden
tomorrow night at six pm Mountain time. Then on Thursday,
USA plane Finland's in the first game. Then Saturday at

(18:14):
eleven am, Finland taking on Sweden and Canada taking on
the US at six pm. Monday, Canada and Finland at
eleven am, Sweden and the US at six pm, and
then from there you'd have the final, the semifinals or
the finals sorry, and then back back to hockey, back
back in action on the Saturday night when the Oilers
take on the Philadelphia for Flyers at eleven am. Crazy,

(18:40):
So getting an early game in there, which is interesting
as this season really starts to wind down. Man, we're
getting close back to playoff time with the Oilers are
gonna go get that cup. But yeah, let's start with Canada.
The lines got released. They're a beast of a team.

(19:02):
I mean, the power play line. I was just laughing
watching the video with mccarr McKinnon, McDavid talking and like,
if looking in my perspective, you've never seen I've never
seen best on best international hockey like that. I remember, obviously,
I've never seen it in a long time. So I'm

(19:26):
very excited. It's probably the most excited I've been for
a tournament. But getting to see these guys go out there,
especially the guys from the Avs that I do think
are in my eyes, the top three players in the
league McDavid, mccarr McKinnon, and they're all on the same
power play line. Then you have a guy like Crosby,
who is a beast. I know he's older, but he's

(19:48):
got that experience. He's done it all, one Stanley Cups,
one gold medals, he's done it. He's there too. He's
still very very very very good. He's still a top
ten player in my mind Sney Crosby's there. And then
Sam Ryan Hart, who's also a top ten player, maybe
maybe top fifteen, who is a fifty goal scorer. Name

(20:11):
looks small in this power play. So that's just saying
a lot. When Sam Ryan Hart's name, who's a fifty
goal scorer, is looking small, that's how you know these
guys are ready to go. I mean, there's a lot
of talk about the goaltending, and I know I understand
that the rosters don't maybe line up, don't. US's roster

(20:37):
overall and talent forward wise probably the same as Canada's. Defensively,
they did lose Quinn Hughes. I like Canada's US is
probably just as good goaltending US is better. But here's
what the US doesn't have, and I don't think it's
talked about enough, the overall experience in these type of games.
Drew Dowdy, Brian Marshan Sidney Crosby have all been in

(21:00):
these type of games. They've all played in the big,
big games like this for mark Stone as well. All
played in these games. So having that kind of experience
over some of these teams can be huge because we've
obviously Sidney Crosby Golden Goal, Mars Shan was there, Dowdy

(21:23):
was there, you know. So we have this experience and
I think with the defenseman that we have, goaltending is
not gonna be the biggest problem. I know, you got
conn of Hellibuck over there, but when you have McDavid,
mccarrn McKinnon on the power play, it's gonna be like,
how are you gonna stop them? I know that the
helli bucks a net, but we have the three best

(21:44):
players in the world shooting on him. So he's gonna
look like in average goaltender. Maybe I'm kidding. He's gonna
be a beast. Which he's probably the X factor for
the US. If the US didn't have good goaltending, it
would be Canada's got this one in the park. So
I mean, I talk about Canada in the US, but
Sweden is also very good. The Fords are good, the

(22:09):
d very good, the goaltending also good. Uc sorrows as
good as it gets, so they're good as well. I
wouldn't say their Ford Town is as good. Their d
are definitely right there. The goaltending's better, so they're gonna
be right there as well. So that's a great test
for Canada tomorrow night. It's gonna be fun. It's gonna

(22:30):
be fun to watch. I'm excited for it. Uh, you know,
you're gonna see Matias x Home and Victor Arbitson face
Connor McDavid, which they were asked about. It's it's it's
pretty funny because now Mattias Achom has to go back
to defending Connor McDavid, which he said he won't enjoy,
which is fair. Probably enjoys watching him dangle around the
entire other team. But yeah, uh, Finland, I'm not as

(22:57):
high on them. Their defense is very bad. I'd be
they're probably last guaranteed. Their d is not good, Their
defense are not good. They have some decent goal attending,
therefore it's not even that good. To be honest, they're
not good. They're they're just a little step behind the

(23:20):
other two teams, which is fair. Still, I mean, they're
still very good, don't get me wrong, but they're not
even close to as good as these three other teams,
not even in the same realm. So I mean maybe
maybe they the Fins are playing growing. I mean, they've
got some good chemistry going on there. That's gonna be
something that that's talked about. Canada, the guys don't grow

(23:43):
playing together as much the US. They play in the
US Development Program. The Swedes and the Finns would both
play with each other growing up, So Canada is not
gonna have that. But I'll tell you when it comes
to these big games, I like my car and McKinnon
and McDavid and Crosby in these big moments, I think

(24:03):
there's a lot of playoff performers in there, so that's
really gonna show in big games. Like Mitch Marner, I
don't think he's gonna perform because in these big games,
like Austin Matthews, he's doing nothing nothing, He's a ghost.
So it's I think in the big games it comes
down to are you guys performers in those big moments

(24:26):
or not. And Jordan Bennington has proved as a goaltender
that he's pretty good in those big moments, so not
a bad choice. I'm kind of sad Logan Thompson isn't
our goalie. I know he is leading, He's very very
close to leading, and say percentage the guy's good. But
you know, I'm confident with Bennington and net I am

(24:46):
Eaden Hill. I'm confident as well. When eating Hill's playing
his best, I am very confident with him. So you
know it's gonna be fun. The goaltending took obviously step
down since Carry left, but I would say the overall
talent took a step up. Definitely, definitely took a step up.

(25:08):
My prediction obviously is to win. The Canada is gonna win,
but you know, we'll see as the week goes on.
Maybe I do an episode because the final final games
around Monday, so we'll do an episode after the Monday games. Probably.

(25:29):
I don't know how everything's gonna line up with me,
but I am skiing, so we get back on Tuesday night,
which makes it interesting. So I'm not sure how I'm
gonna do an episode next week, but we'll see. Because
as much as I I probably do want, it won't
be as long. I mean, this is what happens when

(25:50):
the NFL is gone. Man I mean, there's not as
much to talk about. We can do our our wild card,
firing ice of the week right now as as we
kind of wrap this one up. I mean, my wild
card of the week is obviously gonna be Team Sweden.

(26:13):
I was kind of on them before, but they're very good,
so there, I have no question that they're gonna be
right in it. They're gonna be right in it. I
think everyone looks at Canada in US, but like, Team
Sweden is as good as both in my eyes. Maybe

(26:33):
not in the experience, but they're right there. They're they're
as good. My fire is obviously gonna be Jalen Hurts
and the Philadelphia Eagles, and my ice has to be uh,
I'm gonna say Patrick Mahlmes because that was a big
hit to his legacy. I mean, it was a big
w for Tom Brady when Tom Brady's playing a broadcast

(26:56):
in the game a home is zero and three, so
it's quite something. And Jalen Hurts gets on the category
of beating Mahomes in the playoffs, one of three quarterbacks
to do it, Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow and Jalen Hurts.
Not much else to be said. Gary color yellow pretty

(27:16):
much wraps this thing up. I think we got to
everything we wanted to get to. Luca made his debut
for the Lakers. He looked pretty good, especially not having
the chemistry yet. He obviously wasn't making as many shots
I think he would have, but again, it was his
first game. So it's gonna be a fun week for
the Lakers watching them as well.

Speaker 2 (27:38):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (27:38):
Other than that, I think that's pretty much everything that
I wanted to talk about. Obviously not as long today
because for obvious reasons, the super Bowl it was the
big talking points. I'm just looking right now on the
script to making sure, Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's everything

(27:59):
we wanted to get to. The rewards, the NFL rewards,
we don't really need to go too deep into that
because that's more of an offseason thing as well. But
Josh Allen wins MVP, Jane Daniels Rookie of the Year,
my boy Jared versus Defensive Rookie of the Year shockingly

(28:20):
rams with another great pick. So that's back to back
years that they've had a guy in for de Roy.
Puca should have won oh Roy last year over CJ.
Stroud in my eyes, but again it was so close.
It's the Quarterback Award, Joe burwins Comeback Player of the Year.
I'm just thinking what else. I'm pretty sure that's everything.

(28:46):
Kevin O'Connell obviously wins Coach of the Year, but yeah,
the award, that's something I won't obviously, we'll get into
in the off season. The draft, things like that. We'll
do a mock draft maybe, But yeah, that's everything I
wanted to get to today. Back tomorrow. I'm not sure when,
but I will have one out tomorrow. I can guarantee
you that be interesting to see when when. But yeah,

(29:07):
other than that, enjoy some fun Canada hockey and let's
go Canada. Go McDavid, go mccarm go McKinnon, go everyone
on team Canada. Let's go bring a gold medal home
and then Oilers can win the Cup. That's a double
whammy for me. So peace out. Thanks for listening to
the manager. You can follow us on Twitter at the

(29:28):
Underscore Manning Show, and you can follow me on Instagram
and Twitter at You and man in ninety seven. Thanks
for listening. We'll be back tomorrow.
