Speaker 1 (00:05):
You are listening to The Manning Show with You and Manning.
You're number one sports podcast starts now. Happy Valentine's Day, everyone,
Happy Valentine's Day. It is, of course Valentine's Day. As
I was saying, another kind of quicker episode today, but

(00:30):
before we do get started this weekend, I'm.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Gonna be gone. I'm gonna be gone. I'm not gonna
be in this city. So I'm going to be skiing.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
And we'll be back on Tuesday. So I might do
a show on Wednesday, but today, I'm gonna do one
tomorrow for sure, and then it's a break this weekend
and we're waiting until Wednesday to do another one. But yeah, overall,
just we're going skiing as a fan, so I'm not

(01:07):
gonna be back in studio for a while. Obviously it's
gonna be next week. It's a long weekend for school.
So yeah, I just wanted to say that, get that
out of the way. Probably say that in tomorrow's episode
as well, but let's kind of get into it. So
Edmonton oilers, they find a way to get it done

(01:29):
on the night before Valentine's Hopefully you have a Valentine
I definitely don't, but hopefully you do and the Oilers
find a way to get it done. Eight to four.
Maybe Connor McDavid it was an early gift to his fiance.
Six points for Connor McDavid six and all of them
were assists. Skinner with an eight nine to five percent.

(01:51):
Not a great night for him, but Bouchard found a
way to get on the score sheet. He had three
points and a goal. Newton Hopkins had three points, two
goals and one to says drives out a two point
a goal and assist Cody CC finds his first in
like one hundred and fifty days with a goal and
assist him in with a goal. Haul with goal, came
with a goal. Cec had two points and Nurse with

(02:11):
two points as well. So Oiler was getting all over
the score She accept called a brown of course, just
kind of crazy. Overall, he only had twelve minutes time
on ice, which is kind of funny, but I mean,
not a great game for either team. The Oilers for

(02:33):
the first two periods really struggled, and then the third
period for some reason, they were finding every way to
score on Alex Lyon so I don't know what was
up with him, but the Oilers were, especially after La
getting shut up by David Riddick, which was crazy. By

(02:53):
the way, I'm gonna go to last night's game that
David rosee A had. The Sabers won seven to nothing
against the Kings, and David Riddick had a seven hundred
save percentage seven hundred, and he shut out the Oilers.
He goalied us, so just to kind of bring in
some more burned to Oilers fans shut him out. So

(03:14):
I guess, yeah, it's kind of a weird game though.
I mean, the Oilers didn't play very well, the shots
were pretty even. The Oilers didn't even get a single
power play. It was It's quite something. It was quite
something like Oilers didn't get a power play and the

(03:36):
Red Wings had multiple power players I think three. So
just kind of a weird game in general. I don't
really know. Sorry, I was just having some technical difficulties
there with the camera. But the Oilers, as I was saying,
it was a weird game. They kind of got outshot
and out out chance in the first two periods and

(03:57):
they were finding every way to put the puck past
Alex Line. He had a seven five nine save percentage
and then obviously whoso came in kind of at the end,
who has eight five save percentage. So not good overall
for the Red Wings, even though they put up a
basically forty shots on Stewart Skinner who had eight nine
to five save percentage. But overall, McDavid was just moving.

(04:17):
Cody cc scored us first. The vibes were high last
night for the Vans, spoilers, and overall it was just
it was a good game. So tomorrow they play the
Blues at home, we'll kind of do it like a
thing on that. But they play the Bluese at home,
so we'll kind of do something there. But yeah, so

(04:40):
there's not much else going on. I mean, the oilers.
I'm gonna do some kind of trade proposals tomorrow. Will
kind of look into it tomorrow because I might do
an early morning show. I might wake up in the
morning before school and get a show done. So yeah, yeah,

(05:01):
just just fun, fun, fun indeed. But we'll see, we'll see, uh,
because I'm kind of just scrolling through the NHL right now.
I mean, Panthers, Penguins, two nothing Panthers right now, uh,
one nothing, Jets over the Sharks. So overall, just just
solid solid games in the NHL, the Oilers funny ways

(05:26):
to win games. Lots of NBA action tonight. I know
the NFL's done, but at the end of the day,
you just gotta keep finding ways for the Oilers to
win games and keep bumping up in the standings. Right now,
we can do our little standings check here. We can

(05:46):
check the Western Pacific. The Oilers are up with solid
points on the Kings, even though the Kings beat them
a couple of days ago. Oilers are up a total
of five points on the Kings. They got some games
at hands to games at hand, where Theer's are eight
and two in their last ten. The Kings are three
and seven in their last ten, so not great obviously

(06:06):
the fire run of their coach. But Vancouver is taking
over strong. They're ten points ahead of Vegas ten. They're
at seventy eight points. They're gonna hit one hundred pretty
soon here, so a hundred pretty quick, and then the
Flames are down with fifty five and then the crack
them with fifty four. I think the Flames they're gonna
start to fall after the deadline because they're gonna have
some pieces move out. But we'll see what ends up

(06:29):
happening there because they're gonna have some pieces move out
at the deadline, and yeah, so we'll see what ends
up happening with that. But yeah, there's kind of not
much else really going on today. I mean, there's some
Champions League Champions League soccer if you're interested into that.
But you know, I guess, I guess it is what

(06:54):
it is at the end of the day. But let's
let's kind of check on then we'll kind of take
a break here. Actually we'll just jump right into the agna.
We'll take a break, we'll take a break, and we'll
jump right into the news. Really struggling with some technical

(07:30):
difficulties today. But first thing I saw in the news today.
There's some bad news today as well, but we'll get
into that in the bed. Connor Brown could get traded.
So on the Jason Gregor Show today they had you know,
the nice guy, my guy, what's his face, I'm trying
to remember his name. Mark Spector came on and was

(07:53):
talking about Connor Brown maybe getting traded because he said,
we're kind of past the point that Connor Brown can
play himself back into the lineup. This could be an
interesting point to get traded. His cap hit is seven
hundred and seventy five k. Obviously he gets his bonus
next year of two point seventy five million. So the
Oilers just still, I think you're gonna hold that next year.

(08:16):
So they're basically just suffocating their I don't even know
what to call it. They're suffocating their chances, like they're
just taking the hit if they would trade him. If
they if they do trade him, then that's what's gonna happen.
Right then, the next piece of news, Kyle Shanahan fires

(08:37):
Steve Wilkins. So for people that don't know who that is,
he's the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco forty nine ers.
For the way he handled that Super Bowl. Not a
great or Steve Wilkes. Sorry, he did not have a
great Super Bowl at all. Well neither did the Niners,
but you know what I mean, they didn't They didn't
play very well defensively at the end of the game.

(09:00):
I know they had a good start, but at the
end of the day, there's not much else you can do.
He did not play very well. So and then the
final piece of news. This is kind of the bad stuff.
Multiple people heard it shooting at the Casey Parade. It
was near Union Station in Kansas City, where the Chiefs
were celebrating their Super Bowl victory, kind of after the

(09:20):
players were gone. It's luckily no players were injured. But
I'm very sorry there's one person was killed. Victims to
their family, condolences to them. That's that's terrible. I mean,
you're taking sports too far. I don't know what the
reason was, but there's just reason that there was two
people detained. I just feel really sorry for the people.

(09:43):
If it's reason was football wise, that's there's no there's
nothing in the world that you would take someone's life
over that. That's terrible. So but if it's not, it's
still obviously terrible. Condolences to the family. Just a sad topic.

(10:07):
So other than that, there wasn't much else going in
the news. I mean oilers stuff, not really. I mean
the Blue Jay spring training games to get released, so
you can go check that out on their Instagram or whatever.
But I don't know, so we'll end up seeing. We'll

(10:32):
see here what ends up happening kind of in this
next little bit for like the oilers news, kind of
the trade deadline and how is it gonna build up
because once we kind of get next into the next
game come of next week, that's what we'll be talking about,
is the deadline, because it is starting to approach. It
is in March, so that's gonna be really exciting for

(10:54):
the Oilers because that's the best time of year. We
might do a live show on the trade deadline day.
That would be really really fun. I'm not gonna lie,
but yeah, we can cond of do our score updates today.
I mean, I'm a little late to tim picks, so
we're not going to do that today. But so starting
the college basketball, the only big game on tonight is

(11:15):
uh uh South Carolina against Aburn. Right now, Abron's up
twenty six eighteen. Theyre Aburn's thirteen ranked SC is eleven
ranked in the NHL. The Panthers are up three nothing.
They just scored a goal Aaron Eklid on the power play.
So three nothing Panthers, Dutch. You up one nothing on

(11:36):
the Sharks, shocker. I mean, it's pretty funny. Connor Hallibuck
eight saves in two periods. So and then the Wild
and the Coyotes are at seven thirty tonight. In the NBA,
there's a bunch of games on right now, but the
games tonight seven pm, Kings and Nuggets, Pistons and Sons
at seven pm, Lakers and Jazz at seven pm, and

(11:56):
Clippers and Warriors at eight pm. I'm not going to
go through all the scores right now, because like by
the time you're listening to this, all these games will
basically be done. But yeah, that's kind of your score
update for today. Other than that, there's like not a
lot going on. I know my content's kind of dried
up a little bit recently, but when we start to

(12:18):
get some more guests on, some more people willing to
come on and do this, we'll definitely definitely do that
and hoping that hoping that more people want to come
on and talk some more sports because it is fun.
It's all. It's boring doing this, But if you want

(12:38):
to come on, let me know, because I would definitely
have that happen. So we'll kind of leave it at
that for today. I hope everyone enjoys their day, maybe
watching watching some sports at home the best part, right,
So maybe that happens, right, So we'll see you guys

(12:59):
tomorrow and that will kind of be our last show
for the week. Everyone, have a good weekend. I got
an announcement coming up next week that is actually pretty
exciting for kind of Mike future and broadcasting, so keep
you tuned with that. Everyone, have a good day and
we'll be back tomorrow. Thanks for listening to the Manager.
