Speaker 1 (00:05):
You are listening to The Manning Show with you and Manning,
your number one sports podcast starts now, man oh man,
what is it. It's a great day to be a
Los Angeles Rams fan, a huge Los Angeles Rams win.

(00:28):
We will get into that on this episode of The
Manning Show. I'm you and Manning, welcome back, Thank you
for listening, Episode thirty six, and it's it's gonna be
a fun one. We got some wild card to break down,
but man oh man, was it a fun day for me?

(00:49):
Sports wise? The oilers are playing currently right now. I
thought i'd get some of this kind of fil stuff
out of the way because it'll be pretty late when
this came out, and said, is one nothing oilers currently
Conor McDavid scoring. The shots are even twenty to twenty
with fifteen minutes, but we'll get into that a bit
later in the show. You can look in the description

(01:11):
if you just want to skip to that and not
hear me rant about my Rams. But because I'm going
to go off on what a fun game it was today,
But first off, let's start with the wild card. I mean,
this was such a fun wild card and the first games,
none of them are really that good. To be honest
with you, there wasn't one that stood out, so I mean,

(01:37):
there's not much you can do. But the Rams game
wasn't really entertaining if you weren't Rams fan. The best
game was that the Sunday Night one, which we'll get
into a bit, but let's start right now with the
first game of the day, the Texans define the Manning
shows odds of Texans taking down the Chargers thirty two

(01:58):
to twelve. Let's start with that. I mean Ladd McConkie
one hundred ninety seven yards, touchdown, nine receptions. He had
a very quiet day in terms of He now has
the most receiving yards in a playoff game, beat Pukinku's
record by one hundred by ten yards. Pukin had one
hundred and eighty seven and Ladd breaks with one hundred

(02:19):
and ninety seven. But if you saw that stat line
from Ladd, you probably think, oh, the Chargers won this game,
but it wasn't even close. Justin Herbert four interceptions. He
threw four interceptions all year, and then threw four interceptions
in the final game. The Chargers yet to win a
playoff game With Justin Herbert at quarterback, so there are

(02:43):
lots of questions about that. I mean a good year
though for the for the Chargers. Justin Herbert again not
doing well in the playoffs. The last playoff game they
choked against Jacksonville. In this one, I mean, he was
just not good. He did not play well at all. Uh,

(03:05):
there's not much more to say for four interceptions. Lod McConkie,
great game. Their run game was absolutely doing nothing. The
Texans d I mean, we'll get to them in a second,
but they played amazing. The running offense was nothing. The
Chargers were over one in the red zone and three
for eleven on third down. That's all you really need

(03:28):
to know. Two hundred and sixty one total yards. That's
not winning you a football game. And ladd out one
hundred and ninety seven of them, so that when when
we had the episode with Connor Halley, I'm like, they
are missing this one offensive weapon that they can use
and this proves it. This proves it exactly. Lad McConkie
hundred ninety seven yards and then the next in yards

(03:49):
is Drake JK. Dobbins with twenty six. So that shows you,
I mean, they're they're needing someone else to get the
ball to I mean JK Dow putting up twenty six
rush yards on nine carries is not ideal. So they're
just missing that offensive weapon which they're gonna need to
go get. They're gonna need to get a little bit

(04:10):
interial on line, some better D line, but they're gonna
need to go get another offensive weapon if they want
to shop because justin Herbert, I mean, throwing four interceptions
is basically all you need to know. Not the Chargers day.
I mean, it was a good season for the Chargers.
John Harville did very very well with this with this team,

(04:30):
turned them around after not being a playoff team. So
a good comeback here. But I mean they did not
show up in the playoff game. They looked really good
in their final games, which had me high on them,
but they didn't show up today and or not today
the other day, and it'll be interesting to see where
they pivot. I think they're gonna have to go get

(04:52):
a weapons, so maybe a spot for T Higgins, I
don't know, we'll see Looking into Houston now, Nico Collin
has a massive day one hundred and twenty two yards,
a touchdown, seven receptions, Joe Mixon one hundred and six
rest years twenty five carries a touchdown, one hundred and
nineteen total yards. But the offense was slow to start

(05:13):
but figured it out at the end. I mean solid.
They did enough to get the job done a No.
Thirty two bomb. But the defense is the real shiner.
I mean, very, very good the entire time. Derek Stanley
Junior with two interceptions on the day, four sacks, They
had a touchdown, four interceptions. That's all you gotta know.

(05:35):
I mean Will Anderson Junior again, so good pick six
for Ergin Mury Murray. I mean, this defense was buzzing.
When you're stopping Justin Herbert to twelve points in a
playoff game, that's pretty darn good. So credits to the
Texans D. I mean, it's gonna be tough to repeat

(05:58):
next week, but we'll get in that later as they
they're gonna have to take on the Chiefs, which is
obviously a tough task. Yeah, that's all I gotta say
about that one. It was a good game, but the
Texans D really carried it this one. It was a
very boring one to start off the Saturday, and it
did not get much better. There are the Steelers lose

(06:20):
to the Ravens twenty eight to fourteen. Russell Wilson two
pass touchdowns, twenty nine yards, two hundred seventy passing yards,
George Pickens's eighty seven yards touchdown, five receptions Pittsburgh. I
mean Russ's is done, contract expiring. I mean, I'd like

(06:42):
to have a bigger episode on breaking down, you know,
the offseason for the NFL because that after the season,
will definitely do that. But I mean, Russell Wilson's done.
Justin fields did not get into this game, which I
was a little shocked about, did not get anything going
to half. They didn't get in the red zone, so

(07:04):
all their touchdowns were out of the red zone, which
is really all you gotta know. And it took them
to the second half to get points. So I mean,
it took them to the third quarter to get points.
So that's all I gotta say about that. They they
couldn't figure it out. And Lamar. I mean Baltimore d

(07:26):
looking solid again, having four sacks. They didn't get an interception,
but I mean they played solid enough to limit the
Steelers offense. And you know, if the Pittsburgh defense doesn't
do enough, that's all you gotta know right there, Lamar Jackson,

(07:46):
great day, one hundred and seventy five passing yards, two
passing touchdowns, You don't need to throw it a lot.
But there's a guy named Derek Henry with one hundred
and eighty six yards and two touchdowns on twenty six carries.
That's who you want to get the ball to. When
he gets over twenty carries, man and Lamar's throwing the
ball around twenty times, they win like every game. So

(08:07):
this team with four hundred and sixty four total yards,
everyone was getting the ball. Wasn't one guy. They were
missing Zay Flowers their top target. But man, were they
fun Derrick Henry. They were just like, oh my gosh,
screw it. We're just gonna give this man the ball
the entire football game. And that's what they did. Derrick Henry,

(08:27):
with a massive day one hundred and eighty six rushing
yards on twenty six carries, says he's averaging seven yards
of carry. What a beast him or saque. It's a debate,
but so far Derreck Henry is taking that as We
will get into the Eagles game in a bit, but
a twenty eight to fourteen win the Ravens lots of
questions for the Steelers about Mike Tomlin as well. What's

(08:50):
gonna happen with Mike Tomlin. I'm not sure. I mean,
he hasn't won a playoff game since twenty seventeen, so
we'll see. I assume he's he's there day. I doubt
the Steelers would ever do that, but Race raise some
concern to the Steelers fans about the offense as usual.

(09:10):
Going on to Sunday, where we started off with another
booring game the Bills in the Broncos. It was a
tight first quarter, but the Bills ended up just take
putting their photo on the gas thirty one to seven.
The Broncos started off with a touchdown and then there
wasn't much in their bonus one undred and forty four
passing touchdown. I mean their defense, you can even playing

(09:32):
the Bills, so there's not much you can say about
their defense. But this this is a young Broncos team
and they had a great season. They they played very well. Bonis,
even though he didn't have a great game against the Bills,
was still very solid and was great all year. So
he was in the Rookie of the Year contention. But man. Uh,
you know, they got a good football team and there

(09:54):
in the future, go get a better target, Go get
some better run game. O line. The defense is very
very good. So a young team, but they got a
good future. So shout out to the Broncos. I mean,
not much you can say about that. Not a great game,
but I mean you got such a young team and
the rosters don't even compare to the Bills. Now. Josh Allen,

(10:17):
Oh my gosh, one hundred, two hundred and seventy two
passing yards, two passing touchdowns, James Cook's James Cook with
the day twenty three carries one hundred and twenty yards,
a touchdown, Curtis Samuel finding the end zone. Tyler Johnson
on a dagger on a fourth and two makes a
beautiful catch off a beautiful Josh Allen throw. He has

(10:39):
seventy yards, forty four rush yards and a touchdown. He
had the big, big touchdown that really got them going.
Khalohecure with also a very soliday sixty one yards on
the day. Josh Allen just doing it. And again, I mean,
this is what you expected them to do. They had
the ball for forty one minutes. They were eight for
fifteen on third down. I mean they were one for

(11:00):
five in the red zone, which is not great. Think
about that, they were one for five in the red
zone and they won thirty one to seven. This game
could have been much more of a blowout, but defense
enough to get the stop and Josh Allen led them
to victory. So just what we expected in this game.
I thought the Broncos had a chance to upset and

(11:22):
they made it close to the start. But I mean,
if you're not scoring points against the Bills, you're not
beating them. It's as simple as that. On to the
Packers and Eagles. The Eagles with a big victory over
the Packers twenty two to ten. Jalen Hurts a decent day,

(11:42):
I mean, not as good as we would expect. Sake
won a great day. Twenty five yards, one hundred and
nineteen rush yards, Dallas Goder doing the stiff form to
find the end zone, and I mean we can look
at it. Aj Brown one reception for ten yards. I
don't know if you saw it online, but he was
reading the book on the sideline. The reporters asked him
about it after the game and he said he does

(12:06):
it normally and it just calms his mind in a
game like that. He had one reception for ten yards,
so I mean he was not doing much. I mean
Johann Dottson had a touchdown in eleven yards, but this
was enough as the defense was very very good for
the Eagles. Three interceptions, two sacks. Jordan Love not a

(12:28):
great showing three interceptions, no touchdowns. They did, unfortunately lose
Jaden Reid in that game and ROBYO Dobbs, so losing
to two big targets. Josh Jacobs was really the only
shining part eighty one rushing yards on eighteen carries in
a touchdown. But they didn't do enough the Packers. Their
offense didn't have enough. I thought their defense kept them

(12:51):
gave them a chance in the game. But it wasn't
a stress free game for the Eagles, which is one
of the big notes going in the next week. Obviously
gonna be playing my Rams, so we'll get into that
after I go through the next few games. But the
Packers didn't do enough, Jordan Love, I mean, this is
still young team. It'd be nice to see them to

(13:12):
get another big offensive weapon on the Packers. They could
really use it. I like Jayden Reid and all, but
he's not elite. He's not like that elite. The defense
looks good, so that's good for them, but you know,
we'll see what they do on the offensive side of
the ball, see how things work out. The Commanders with
a huge twenty three to twenty victory over the Tampa

(13:35):
Bay Buccaneers. Those dang bucks. Gonzalez hits the winner. They've
had five different kickers this year. The doink and then
in off the right, upright and in with three seconds
left in the fourth quarter to win the game. Great
job by the Washington Commanders. Jaydon Daniels, Oh my gosh,

(13:56):
what he beasts. That guy is two and sixty eight
yards two pas touchdowns on the day. Absolutely unbelievable day.
He's doing it all on the ground, in the air.
Jerry McLaurin, man, he is a beast so talented. Everyone
was doubting him when he didn't have those type of
quarterbacks and we're seeing it now. A touchdown, eighty nine yards,

(14:16):
seven receptions. What a beast had a great day. And
that was a big note. I mean, not a lot
of guys got involved. Dee Brown had a big game.
Diami Brown, he had a few big catches, so that
was that was good for them. Austin Eckler and Brian
Robinson again not the greatest days from them. I mean
ten carries for sixteen rush yards for Brian Robinson not great.

(14:38):
But Jane Donalds when they have Jane Daniels, I mean,
it all works out. The defense was very good as well,
doing enough a sack. You know, they just did their
job in that game and kept them in a Bobby Wagner,
Marshall and Lattimore doing their jobs in this one, keeping
Baker at bay. Speaking about I mean he had a

(15:00):
decent game as well, two passing touchdowns one hundred and
eighty five yards. They only threw the ball eighteen times.
They fed Bucky who had a okay game touchdown eighty
three yards, seventy seven rushing yards on seventeen carries, averaging
four point five carries, so solid game for him. But
Mike Evans had a great game. Seven receptions of touchdown,
ninety two receiving yards. A good game for him. You

(15:22):
could see his emotion after the game. He tied Jerry
Rice's record for one thousand yards. And then they lose
in the first round, so you can understand why that
it's tough, but their offense just didn't have enough. And
when he leave the ball in Jade and Daniels hands,
you expect Jane Daniels to come on top. So the

(15:46):
Bucks tried, they fought, They made it a great game,
so shout out to them. They also look are gonna
be good for the future. Baker's been very, very solid,
so shout out to Baker Mayfield. It was a fun game.
Commanders just took it. And you know, Jane Daniels is
the beast. Now we get to the fun one. The

(16:09):
Rams twenty seven to nine over the Minnesota Vikings. Oh
my gosh, we had so much to get to on this.
The Los Angeles Rams, Man oh Man, Matthew Stafford two
hundred and nine yards, two touchdowns, Kien Williams ninety two
total yards, a touchdown, Puka and I even in a
real factor in fifty one yards five receptions. Tyler Higby

(16:29):
with a big day. Unfortunately he did get hurt early.
He had fifty eight yards for five receptions. But this
is a great team. I mean their defense is the
real shine in this, which I mean I was saying
this throughout the week. If the Rams could get pressured
to Sam Darnold, it was gonna be game over. And
they sure did. Nine sacks. Do you hear that the

(16:51):
Rams had nine sacks. That's the most sacks since nineteen
seventy eight in a postseason game. Incredible stuff. They also
had an interception and they had a forced fumble touchdown
by Jared Vers. Man. This team is good. This this
d line is so good and young. We had many

(17:12):
different guys. We had seven different guys with point five
sacks or more. Kobe Durant sack, Byron Young one point
five sacks, Gallimore one point five sacks, Kobe Turner two sacks,
Hoitt point five sacks, fisc point five sacks. They got
to him, man, Jared Verse. I mean picking up the

(17:33):
touchdown and going and scoring the big play of the game. Man,
oh man? Is that fun? Fun being a RAMDS fan? Man?
Huge win. Let's get to the Vikings now. I mean
the Rams are They played a great game. Their defense
played a great game, Their offense played did enough to
get the win, which I was worried about coming in.

(17:54):
But they look good. I mean Matthew Stafford started off
the game on fire, started with that big play. From
Puka and I'm like, oh, yeah, we're rolling. So they
didn't really even have to try in the second half.
They didn't do anything. Stafford threw the ball twenty seven
total times two hundred and nine yards. I mean, they
didn't need to throw the ball the second half. They
really didn't, you know, So it was it was good

(18:20):
to see them get the win, and you know, a
shout out to you know, the people, the firefighters out
in La the people who were first responding and trying
to say these fires really devastating to the city and
being there in November and then you know, seeing this
stuff happen. I've been in some of those areas. It's

(18:41):
it's pretty tough because obviously I love the Rams. I
love the city and had nothing but fun there, So
it's really tough to see things like that happen. And
the Rams didn't made a statement tonight no matter what
they they faced, what they went through, they battle some
injuries tonight as well. They put up a fight. Man,
it's gonna be a tough next week. We'll get into

(19:02):
that rate after this. But again, great guts from this
team and a huge win. Very happy about it. But
let's go to the Minnesota Vikings. Here Sam Narnldston, there's
not much you can say. He did not have a
good game. Intercepted here, also threw a passion touchdown in
garbage time. They were six for seventeen on third downs,

(19:24):
so the Rams pushed them of the seventeen third downs.
That's pretty insane. You know, Aaron Jones had a decent day.
They they really didn't get anything going. And Justin Jefferson
average GJ. Hawkinson had the one big catch for the touchdown,
but they they couldn't get anything going. And that was

(19:47):
the first half. When when you're down twenty four to six,
twenty four and nine, twenty four and nine, it's the
first half, it's not gonna be a great game, right
and only three points scoring in the second half, and
the Rams could have done much more. I will guarantee
you that if they put their pedal to the medal,
which there's no point, but the Rams ten enough. I mean,

(20:11):
I knew this was gonna happen if Sam Darland got
pressure in his face nine sacks. He likes to hold
the ball and look downfield. He had some really bad throws,
very off target. I think they're done with him. Probably
the last snap we saw, which is wild because it's
such a swing. They just played Green Bay and had

(20:32):
a huge win, so everyone was getting all hyped about
him and what they were gonna do. And now it
went from in two games to where probably that was
the last time we're seeing this guy in the UNI
in a Viking's uniform. That's incredible, crazy stuff. I don't

(20:55):
know what to say it. I mean, he was not
a in this football game. He looked like his normal
Sam Donalds South. So now what you can do, Vikings?
You got a good future. You got Daniel Jones right
free agents as well. Sam Drawland's gonna be free agent.
Probably the last time we see Sam doraland the Vikings uniform.

(21:19):
You have JJ McCarthy as a rookie tearing his ACL
and then no one expecting for you to do anything
with Sam donald and then then doing something going fourteen
to three, and then losing to the Rams. I mean,
interesting to see what they do in the offseason. But
defense played pretty solid as well. The Rams are just
hot in the first half, and you can't do much

(21:42):
when when your offense is getting fumbled for touchdowns and
throwing interceptions. So they have a great defense still, Brian
Flores a great job this year, but the offense would
be interesting to see what they do at quarterback. That's
what I'm gonna do about the Vikings huge win for
my loss and Angelos Rams. We're gonna break down the

(22:03):
I guess looking forward, it starts off. This is what
is scheduled so far, the Texans taking on the Chiefs
on Saturday at two thirty pm Mountain Time. The Chiefs
man they haven't played, Patrick Mahomes hasn't thrown pass since Christmas.

(22:23):
That's gonna be the main storyline going into this football game.
Is Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs rusty or cool? And
can the Texans defense and offense keep up because you
know the Chiefs offense is gonna be buzzing. Likely not
much you can do. If your defense plays well, slows

(22:44):
down Mahomes enough that your defense can keep up, they
have a shot. But just the way this team was
in form I mean, they're gonna have to have a
very very good, maybe an even better defensive game next
week if they want to beat the Chiefs. That's all
I gotta say about this one. It'll be a fun

(23:06):
one at two thirty then Washington taking on the lines
at six pm. The Saturday night game. That is gonna
be a fun one, folks. Jaye Daniels against the hurt
Lions defense. That did a lot against Sam Donald but
kind of proved Sam Darld's kind of mad. To be honest,
tonight proved it, so I wouldn't really give much the
Lions defense, Uh, Dayan Daniels is really gonna test him.

(23:27):
That's gonna be fun to watch. But man o man,
the Lions have a great offense, so we'll see how
the Commander is gonna be about it. Hopefully it's gonna
be a high scoring game. It'll be a fun one.
I do think it's gonna be a close game, so
we'll see about that. It's that's at six pm. Both
games gonna be fun. David Montgomery is set to come

(23:47):
back into action, which is really exciting for the Lions.
The Commanders also being on the road again which will
be interesting. And same with the Texans against the Chiefs.
So a fun Saturday. I mean, the divisional games are
always the best intern of entertainment value, so it's gonna
be fun. And then the Sunday at four point thirty,
the Ravens taking on the Bills. That is going to

(24:09):
be a great game. I'm not sure what the Sunday
scheduling is for the Rams and Eagles yet, but we're
getting that in a second. The Ravens against after a
huge win against the Bills, this is gonna be a
clash man. This is maybe a game of the year
type scenario. These two teams played earlier. Always a close game,

(24:36):
right you know. These are two teams that have seen
each other before. Probably the best they're gonna see. The
Ravens whooped the Bills thirty five to ten. Last time
these two teams played, Josh Allen did not have a
great game. So we'll see if Josh Allen can figure
them out. Because last time it was not close. The

(24:58):
Ravens had their number, but Josh challenge a different animal. Now,
this was way back in Week four, so we'll see
about this one. This is gonna be a fun matchup.
Josh Allen on fire against basically Derrick Henry and Laar
Jackson on fire as well. So we'll see about that.
I probably have the Bills in this one, but it's
it's close. I mean, the Ravens I think are being

(25:20):
very much underrated in this and I have the Chiefs
and I have the lines as well, so those are
all the favorites. And then I'm not sure when the
Rams game is gonna be scheduled. I wonder if they
have a Monday night or they put the Rams on
Sunday night the Eagles in the Rams facing in Philadelphia.
The Rams do not match up all against the Eagles.

(25:40):
I don't know if you remember. Saquon Barkley absolutely ran
over them the last time they shoot. Heams faced on
primetime football. Not a fun one to watch your Rams fan.
But the defense has gotten better the last five weeks.
The defense has been very good so and the offense
last week for Philly not great. They're gonna put them

(26:02):
a fight against the Eagles. I think it's gonna be
a bit better this time. And the offenses not gives
them a chance, just gives them a chance. So you
never know. I have the Eagles in that one, but
you know, I'm always hoping for my Rams, and I
think they'll put up a battle. But yeah, that's kind
of my outlook of the schedule. I mean that that
game will be scheduled as well. That'll be a fun

(26:25):
football game to watch on the weekend. Let's get to
our wild card of the week. We go to my
Los Angeles Rams. Wow, that's all I gotta say about
the wild card of the week, Man oh Man, Los
Angeles Rams. Great team, great football team. So did a
great job this week, and I think they were underrated.

(26:45):
A lot of people saying first round upsets, a lot
of those Sea Chickens fans. So it's great to see
them get a win. And that was my wild card
of the week. Some NFL news for the week as well.
Mike of verabel In for the Patriots, big steining foriel Patriots.
He's a great head coach. Led the Titans to the

(27:10):
first seed a few times, so he's a good coach.
And with a great quarterback in Drake May so good
future there, good signing. I can see why they got
rid of Girodmeo. Now it was a little skeptical at first,
but hey, I mean, good luck. Mike McCarthy is out
of Dallas, which is actually great. I was cheering for

(27:31):
that because Dallas. Now much they'll say about Dallas, I mean,
they're Dallas right chokers in the in the playoffs. So
Mike McCarthy is not the man for the Dallas Cowboys.
I know he had a great season this season for
what he had, but I mean didn't do anything in

(27:53):
the playoffs. That's all I got to say about that.
Good for There's talks about Dion Sanders going there, which
is very interesting. I guess we'll see about that. But
apparently it's it's there. It's real talk, so we'll see
what happens there. Maybe next week. Dean Sander is the
head coach of the Cowboys. That'll be kind of wild.
That'd be a big swing in things. We'll kind of

(28:18):
get to the Oilers game in a bit. We'll get
to our fire and ice of the week this week
as well. The ice is obviously the Minnesota Vikings, after
falling two against two good teams, scoring ten or less
points in the last two games as well, that's our
ice of the week. Obviously, pretty easy to figure that

(28:42):
one out. The Vikings, not much to say about them.
We already went into them. They are and they're really choked,
so that's all I gotta get. The fire of the
week the Washington Commanders. Man o, men, are they a
good football team? And I picked them to win that
game against the box, and they sure did so good

(29:05):
for the Commanders. That is my fire team of the week.
There's kind of some other options. I could have picked
the Rams. I really could have picked. I mean, the
Bills were kind of already on fire. I mean, I
could pick some college for I could have picked Notre Dame.
But yeah, let's get into the last thing about football

(29:27):
this week, and then we'll get into the Edmonton Oilers
as their game is wrapping up. There's two minutes right
now as I'm recording this, But let's look at the
college football playoffs. Notre Dame taking down Penn State twenty
seven four. I'm just looking at this right now. What

(29:49):
date is it today? The thirteenth? So yeah, okay, so
twenty seven twenty four. Notreed game taking down PCU. Drew
Aler an absolute fraud when it comes down to it,
throwing an interception one hundred and thirty five totally yards. Man,

(30:10):
oh man, it's his Oilers game. Close. Sorry right now,
I'm kind of looking at that as well, because the
Kings just pulled the goalie. But great game for Drew
for uh not Drewalery, Drew Ler. Not a great game PCU,
I mean still had a decent game offensively, but dree
Aler didn't. He was not great with the football, threw

(30:32):
a bad interception, should have had three to be honest,
and yeah, that's really all I gotta say. Riley Leonard
did have a pretty average game as well, but did
enough to beat to beat Penn State. This team is
going to be heavily underdogs against Ohio State. We could

(30:52):
have a really bad national championship. That is on Monday,
January twentieth, at five point thirty five thirty Mountain Time.
Friday the Friday the tenth game, January the tenth, OSU
Ohio State, the Buckeyes taking down the Longhorns, the Texas

(31:13):
long Horns twenty eight fourteen. Will Howard doing enough, somehow,
some way. Jeremiah Smith only with three yards in one reception. Interesting,
doing a good job to beat Texas quint Yours. He
had an okay day, but again they just didn't do
enough to beat OSU and OSU man getting making a

(31:40):
huge play, getting a huge eighty three yard fumble return.
That's difference, man. When you're in playoff football, it's all
about the big the big plays, the most mistakes and
the big big plays, not like a forty three yard pass,
that's not when you're in the game. In eighty three
yard fumble t return, that's when you the game. Today,

(32:03):
Jared Verse take scooping and scoring. That's winning you a
football game. So those are the big plays in Texas.
I mean, they've got a great future with arch Manning.
That's gonna be fun to watch next year, assuming Quinn
Yours head to the draft. But Texas got a good future.
So it's gonna be an interesting national championship. I mean,

(32:27):
I expect unless you'd absolutely wax Notre Dame, but you
never know. A Notre Dame really fought, really fought. That's
all I gotta say about that. The NHL right now
will get into that. I'm gonna take a break watch
because the Kings have an empty net right now. Then
we will get in to our Edmonton Oilers Talk of
the day, be another fifteen minutes talk and we will

(32:50):
and the pod for this week again. You can Yeah,
I'm just watching this right now, so we'll be back.
I'm just gonna take a break and finish this game
off and come back and give a little chat. The

(33:13):
Edmonton Oilers get a huge one to nothing victory over
the Los Angeles Kings and any of that. One that
was pretty exciting. Stuart Skinner with an excellent day thirty
one for thirty one, making some big saves. McDavid with
the only goal in this one, which is great for
my fantasy hockey team, the La Kins. Darcy Kemper with
a great game ninety six eight percentage on thirty shots,

(33:35):
but the King's battled man. They played a good game
against the Oilers and Skinner was good enough and the
du was solid enough that they got the job done.
It was a pretty even game overall if you look
at shots and everything and the swings of it. Kings
started the game off better, but the Oilers had a
great second period and started the third. Kings had a

(33:55):
bit of a push at the end of the game,
but was able to handle it. On Connor McDavid's birthday,
Happy birthday to my King. I mean, that guy's the
goat man. He scores the only goal, which is pretty special.
As he is talking right now, he turns twenty eight
years old. Connor McDavid, what a guy. So I'm watching

(34:16):
him right now on my TV. But man, it was
a fun hockey game. It was just a great night
for me in sports, the Rams winning and then the
Empton Oilers with a huge divisional win over the Los
Angeles Kings. The standing's updated now the Edmonton Oilers fifty

(34:37):
five points, the Los Angeles Kings fifty three, the Flames
forty nine, the Connects out of the playoffs spot with
forty eight. The Knights still hanging strong man, they are
the greatest, the best team in the NHL right now
with sixty one points. Excuse me, the Oilers game has
not updated on my stand ins yet, so they will
likely be I'm just looking. But like we had fifty

(34:59):
seven and the fifty three, so the Oilers getting a
nice gap in between, which is great to see. Boys
are busted right now. They haven't played their greatest hockey,
but they're finding ways to win games. So good for them,
and that's really what matters until they gets the playoffs.
Just gotta get there and see what happens. Just play

(35:20):
some decent hockey, get a good spot. I really don't
want to play the Kings again in the first round
for the fourth time, because like we've already seen that.
Like give us something new, That's really what I'm cheering for.
But yeah, some things about the Oilers. Jeff Skinner's been
sitting a lot recently, which is quite interesting. The Oilders
went eleven to seven this tonight, so they had Josh

(35:42):
Brown in the lineup over Jeff Skinner, which is very
interesting because fans are debating, would you rather have eight
minutes of Josh Brown or nine minutes of j Just Skinner.
I rather have nine minutes of just Skinner. He's gonna
produce something offensively in the game. Josh Brown is just
out there to be good. I don't really get it.
I don't really know why n Block hates him. I mean,

(36:02):
for a little while, Jeff Skinner was was fifth in
goals and he hasn't seen the top six. Think about it,
he was fifth in goals. I don't really get it.
But I guess Nobby doesn't enjoy him, which is tough
for the Oilers. You know, he's a great player and
he's got nose for the netman, so I if I
was the coach, I'd give him more shots. He's a

(36:24):
better player. He's fifth in goals imagine meaning fifth in
goals on your team. So you're like a solid player
on your team and you're sitting and there's a guy
named Casparry Kaptain who's had some flashes, but as a
waiver claimant isn't very odd. I don't see the logic
in it, but I guess Nabby does. So that that's
something to talk about. Another thing kind of to get

(36:48):
into trade deadline in March. Thinking about that, a lot
of targets talking about the oilers looking to upgrade on
the right side. There's a chance they don't do anything
major like the targets that are there. You're not getting
another at home. Everyone's saying we need eat another at come.

(37:08):
We haven't. There isn't another ach Home out there, man,
we would love that on the right side. The other
at home is Philip Brohlberg who plays for the Saint
Louis Blues now. But you know they're gonna look to
upgrade on that right side. Amberson's looked really good there,
but they need another piece. They can't have Troy Stature
running out there in the playoffs, right. I would not

(37:31):
like to see Josh Brown running out there in the playoffs.
Tell you that. Yeah, so they're gonna look to upgrade there.
Maybe a piece for the bottom six. That's just a
little grittier, who will fight, who will really like throw
a body around. They're missing Evander Kaine for that, but yeah,
I mean they're they're a great hockey team and it'll

(37:54):
be interesting to see what the Emonton Oilers do. Right.
They've been playing pretty good hockey recently, and yeah, they
have obviously the second half of the tough schedule Wednesday,
January fifteenth, so you're probably listening to this on Tuesday,
so that's tomorrow six point thirty mountain time. They take

(38:14):
on the Wild on the road. Then they take on
the Abs on the next day, the sixteenth, at seven thirty,
and then the Canucks on the road again on the eighteenth,
on the Saturday at eight mountain time, and then all
the way till next Tuesday. They get a little bit
of a break there. They get I guess a three

(38:37):
day break. They play the Capitals at home at seven o'clock,
a huge win, a huge fun of a few fun
games for the Ampton works. They kind of go on
their next road and then they have one, two, three,
four five games at home to end January, and then

(38:57):
they have one more start February against the Leafs. So
just get through this this away stand then you're back
at home for the next six so or there's I mean,
things are looking good for them. There's always some questions
on them, and there always will be, but they're gonna
push through. So it's it's it's great to see them

(39:17):
keep winning games like that. Other stuff going on in
the NHL, I mean, the Red Wings are on fire
right now, seven and three in their last ten since
Todd McClellan came in the Canadians are right there and
the sends forty four and forty five points. The Red
Wings are there with forty four. The Bruins are barely

(39:38):
in a playoff spot with forty seven right now. Not
a great team, I would say. The East not looking
as good the Lightning with forty nine, Panthers forty three,
Leafs forty six the Metro. The Caps are on fire
man sixty one points. The Devil's right behind them in
fifty six. The Rangers all the way down there at
forty two. Shout out to Ben, he's a bum. Rangers.

(40:02):
Not great. The Jackets are in a playoff spot, which
is weirdly surprising. They're seven and three in their last ten.
They are on a bit of a heater right now
they're playing some decent hockey, which is fun to see.
It's good to see them play somewhat well. Blue Jackets
sometimes are a factor in some of these games. The

(40:25):
Cane's also with fifty five points, but the West is
as stacked as it can be. Wild are seven and
three in their last ten. They've got fifty eight points.
Stars are eight and two in their last ten. They
have fifty five. The Aves are got fifty three. They're
seven and three in their last ten. The Jets are
six and four in the last ten. They got sixty one.
The Pacific, the Oilers are seven and three in their
last ten. The Knights are seven and three in their

(40:47):
last ten, Kings are six and four, Flames are six
and four. Man, oh man, the West is gross. If
I was Vegas, I'd be happy to be playing the Flames.
I don't even know how the Flames are in a
first round spot. I mean the Canucks that they the
Canucks don't are three and seven in the last time.
If they don't make the playoffs, that's incredible. With the

(41:11):
amount of talent they have on their team, that is crazy.
Because they're talking about trading these guys and all the
beef they got going on their team with Miller and Peterson.
It's it's very weird to me. I don't even know
what's going on there out there in Vancouver. I really
could care less. I hate the Vancouver Canucks, so I'm
kind of glad they're there. I'd rather the Flames than
the playoffs and the Canucks because the Flames are gonna

(41:31):
be a non factor. So that's really all I got
to say about that. That was kind of my last
little bit of hockey. I mean, it's gonna be a
fun week up coming for sports. You got some some
oilers games. The last thing I wanted to get into
Rokey Sasaki is in the hunt with the Jays, which

(41:54):
I don't think is gonna happen. We're not gonna even
go over this, but the Blue Jays apparently one of
the last three candidates for Rossisaki, and the other two
have Japanese players on it, the Padres and the Dodgers,
So we're not even gonna get into that. He's not
going to the Jays guarantee if he does. I mean,
that's crazy. One more thing I wanted to break down.

(42:19):
I am actually gonna be tomorrow night or by the
time you're listening to this, I might have already done it.
I'm gonna be tomorrow night, Tuesday, January fourteenth, seven thirty pm.
I'm gonna be broadcasting the Junior Others game at Rogers Place.
So that's gonna be awesome. You can keep a track
on social media. I'm going to be active on social

(42:39):
media that night. It's going to be a lot of fun.
You can listen to the pregame and postgame show the
Junior Oil with Manny and Jacko. So that's gonna be
a lot of fun. Being able to broadcast the game
at Rogers Place. It's definitely a dream come true. So
very excited for that one. You can go get tickets,

(42:59):
did you or or I think if you shouch up
the Junior Others it'll pop up on their website. You
can go purchase tickets. Now you're probably not listening to
this before it ends up happening, But that's kind of
really all I wanted to get into today in today's show.

(43:19):
I mean, the football was where I was at this week.
Man Like, I'm not much of an NBA guy, so
I don't really get into that. But it's kind of
really all I think that I needed. I'm just checking
my phone right now and I'm sure that is. We're
gonna wrap this one up. It was a lot of

(43:41):
fun this this day maybe the best day for sports
in my opinion, in terms of my team's winning. It's
gonna be a fun day at school tomorrow. I unfortunately
have a test first thing, but it's gonna be a
fun day talking about my rams and discussing and discussing
my victory and the Oilers victory, which is also fun.

(44:05):
