Speaker 1 (00:05):
You are listening to The Manning Show with You and Manning.
You're number one sports podcast starts now. Welcome back, another one,
another day. It's been a while. I said that last

(00:27):
time as well, and it has it was a while,
and it's a while again. The Butler's lost the Stanley Cup.
So yeah, it's been that long. Pretty crazy, pretty crazy
to think about. I really haven't used my setup that

(00:48):
much I spent money on for this kind of crazy,
kind of crazy to think about it. But lucky enough,
we're back, and I think we're back for good this time.
This isn't like, oh, we're back, We're gonna do episodes.
This is me trying to get a guest down every week,

(01:10):
trying to find someone new every week to come on talk.
And here's how I'm gonna split it out in the show. Okay,
So today we have Zach. Zach works at empton Sports
Talk now Big into Sports. He runs podcasts for the
river Hawks that Edmonton Sports Talk does river Hawks weekly.

(01:34):
So he's coming on today talk about the river Hawks.
Obviously they got eliminated from the playoffs. The Oilers offer
sheets that are gonna happen tomorrow morning. Because I'm recording
this early in advance to the interview tomorrow, and then
we're gonna talk obviously, see what happens and then get
into that with him. But how I'm gonna split up

(01:57):
the weeks two episodes a week, one episode NFL, all
the NFL stuff, fantasy, whatever you want, try and get
Zach h on. Then the next one is gonna be
an Edmonton Weekly, so all the Edmonton stuff and the Oilers.
That's gonna be another one. The other two sports I'm

(02:19):
just getting rid of out the door. The CFL will
be in, river Hawks are in, maybe a little bit
of bou Jay sprinkled in, but right now I kind
of want to bridge out and do those too and
just have them come together, because that's what I truly
love to talk about, to be honest. But yeah, so

(02:42):
I just kind of wan and record this early and
talk about what happened. Why I wasn't a ton of
baseball all summer, so really struggle to have time. School
kind of wrapped up lots of time with my friends,
and then now I got to to do this. So

(03:03):
I finally sat down and thought, hey, now's the time.
I got a job writing at at the oil rig
the oil rig dot C. I write for them. Now
I still have my play by play job with the
junior oilers Boom, so you can go check me out.

(03:24):
And if you just search up my name on the website,
you'll see my articles that I've wrote. Wrote one on
Dyn Holloway player profile and my first one was on
Stan Bowman, so you can go check me out there.
But yeah, so that's kind of what I'm enough to.
So enough of me. We're going to get to the interview,
so enjoy. Well, welcome back after the break, I'm excited

(03:50):
to bring on another guest, Zach from Edmonton Sports Talk.
Welcome Zach.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
Yeah, thanks for having me, man, this is awesome.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
Yes, so we've all been listening to ems and sports talk.
A lot of us have really entertaining stuff. Let's just
start by asking you how you got in to the
sports broadcast in business. Obviously you went to Nate as
some people don't know it's a big program. Just a
little bit about yourself and kind of how you've gotten

(04:21):
into it.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
Well originally, like I always listened to TS and twelve
sixty before it's shut down, and I was a huge
fan of Dusty lt. Everybody there great guys, and now
I'm with them.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
But it sort of started.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
When I took the Radio and Television program and really
I didn't know what I was going to do for school.
I wanted to go be an RV mechanic. I had
to go to Calgary for that, though, So I looked
at my other options, and I looked down the list
of courses offered at NATE and I saw radio and
television and that was the first one I saw that
I really was passionate about. So I applied, got in

(05:01):
and just continued schooling there, and they really helped me
get a lot of my opportunities. I've grown up playing
hockey my whole life, family oilers for a while now,
I don't know. I love watching UFC and stuff like that.
So the things I'm passionate about, the fact that I

(05:23):
can transfer it into work and be passionate, more passionate
about my work than doing some other things is great.
Anything I do all day doesn't really feel like a job,
so it's it's great in that way.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
Yeah, that's the best. I mean, luckily you didn't have
to go to Calgary. Who really wants to go to
Calgary as an oilers fan. That's pretty awesome though, the
way you've gotten into it, and that's obviously a program
where I'm looking to get into as when I get older,
maybe graduate go to that Nate program. Pretty awesome program
in general for people who are trying to get into

(05:59):
the broadcasting business. Just some tips on like how you
can kind of establish yourself younger or if you're looking
to change and you're older and you're trying to get
into the broadcasting business, just some like tips on that.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
Well, the biggest thing, and it's sort of a cliche,
but you do just have to try. You do just
have to keep working at it, and nothing you're going
to get in life is really going to come to
you just by chance.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
I feel like I work my butt off throughout Nate.
That helped me a lot. That's really when I got
anything kick started. Got a lot of connections there. You
learn great things, but you also, you know, you get
to meet people and get different kinds of opportunities. But honestly,
if you're starting from the bare bones basics, man, you
just got to try shoot your shot and I don't know,

(06:50):
make tiktoks, whatever it is you really want to do.
You just got to do it and keep at it
and eventually your hard work will pay off.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
Yeah, it's pretty awesome. It's all about the connections in
this business and fact obviously working hard trying to get
those connections and establish those, trying to get to the next,
next rank and really try and go for your dreams.
That's that's the big thing, especially for me, trying to
obviously get to the next step. But yeah, that's those
are those are great tips. Let's hop into the oilers here,

(07:21):
because I mean they haven't it's been a very active
twenty four hours for them and even last week for them.
Let's start with the offer sheets, I mean, Broberg and Holloway,
now Saint Louis Blues. What are your initial thoughts.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
It's it's a bit shocking, honestly, especially throughout the week.
I thought of all the options that could be four
point five to eight four point six if you want
to round it up.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
For Broberg is a little bit it's a bit of
a risk.

Speaker 3 (07:54):
So looking at that, it was like, well, the money's there,
you got to try and make some moves. Caine's got
to go on out tr what's gonna happen here? And
the Oilers ended up moving CC, which I thought was
a direct chance there to sign Broberg, and I thought
that's who they're gonna go after. The Oilers are very

(08:16):
deep on the forward side of things, and it's really
shocking that they didn't match even one of them and
let both of them walk.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
Yeah, I would agree. I mean, when I saw CC
get traded, I was like, this is the move, and
I think most people thought, I mean, you're moving out
a right shot. Now you're gonna have to probably bring
in Broberg. I didn't think the Oilers were gonna run
with who they have now Amberson and Stature there. I

(08:48):
it just looks a little shaky to me, and I
didn't really see the points. I guess maybe they saw
that move as, Okay, this is a good trade for us,
We're gonna make this move, which is obviously tough timing
for Oilers fans trying to know who's gonna get resigned.
But I was a little surprised when they didn't get
when all three of those guys are gone now, and

(09:10):
I was hoping one of those guys would be coming back.
Halloway obviously a little bit more money than we wanted
to pay for him as well. But you can find
another Halloway. There's a lot of another Halloways out there,
obviously making that trade with the Canucks, but you can
find another Halloway. You can't find another Broberg. Really tough
to find a young maybe top four d like that.

(09:33):
So it was a smart move on the Blues to
turn out those guys and make them make them Blues.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Yeah, yes, sorry, sorry man.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
I guess well, on the side of the player's perspective.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
It makes more sense for Broberg to want to go.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
It was a huge jump in what the Oilers were
offering one point eight. There was other teams that wanted
to offer sheet him as well, but to go for
that kind of money, he's getting the bag and he's
going to get time in Saint Louis without really Tory
Kruge being there, him being out of an injury.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
He'll have time on the power play and things like that.
Just more opportunity for him.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
And the relationship between him and the Oilers were was
a bit askeue, But for Holloway it's.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
A little bit weirder, And I do agree.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
Both prospects were showing up in the playoffs and I
thought they'd be key pieces to the depth and the
young pieces that would help them in the playoffs eventually
coming into next year. But now the both of them
are gone, and it's really really difficult to try and

(10:41):
replace a Broberg.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
I definitely agree.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
Yeah, it was a little shocking for me when the
news came in. I was like, no way, I think
I was screaming. I was playing video games or something.
And I didn't really expect them to move on, especially
Halloway in the playoffs he scored a bunch of big
goals in those spots. I wrote an article on him,
a player player profile on the oil Rig one of
the bigger oiler oiler blog sites, and I was writing

(11:07):
into looking into next year. Obviously, I didn't get too
deep into his contract because no one really expected that
it was gonna happen, that he was gonna get off
for sheeted, and it ended up happening, and it was
it was. It was tough for me losing those guys,
especially Broberg, who looked really good in the playoffs, he
did well against the Panthers four check. Especially now looking

(11:28):
in the next year, do you think that the Oilers
have another move up their sleeve? Now looking at the
right side not being great. Nurse is obviously gonna have
to take a big step. So what do you think
about the decor going into next year?

Speaker 2 (11:42):
Honestly, that's a huge question. Now.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
On the back end, especially on the forward group, you're fine,
but on the back end it's huge questions and it's
not really that stable.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
Sure.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
Eberson he only played thirty games in the NHL, ten
points on the San Jose Sharks out of all teams.
And I'm not putting any flack on Emberson. He could
come in, but now he's getting the opportunity to play
with a better squad and maybe he shows better.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
He's he's young.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
There might be that potential there, and I do think
a move's gonna happen. Getting the second and third for
Broberg and Holloway as well as the other third, and
I forget the name of the player traded to the Oilers,
but getting those assets gives them those.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
Chip in pieces to try and make a move. Maybe
not right away.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
Feels like Stan Bowman might try and wait to see
really what he's got before he makes a move, And
I think that's a smart decision. The offense is there,
and just to see really what you have if anything
clicks with the defensive core, if there's chemistry there and
they're able to keep pucks out of the net, then

(12:55):
you can go decide to make a move. But heading
into the towards the trade deadline, I definitely think that
something is gonna happen. There's something on the horizon for sure.

Speaker 1 (13:05):
Yeah, I think it would be a total failure of
management if nothing gets addressed. My cameras clicking in and out,
that's okay, it'll fix itself. Looking into Dry Sitles contract, now,
CC was a big guy in the room. I think
we all knew that he was a player's player. You
saw Dry Titles Instagram post when he got traded. He's

(13:27):
a big player in the room. Do you think this
affects Dry Sitles contract negotiations at all or or do
you think we see a contract signing re sign for
a dry sitle.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
I do think a contract is inevitable, and losing a player,
not only a player, but a friend really like that
and a tight knit group in the core can maybe
be a little bit detrimental to Dry Title, But I
don't think it'll swing the pendulum that much that he
will want to walk and walk out of Edmonton and

(14:02):
try and get money somewhere else. I still think he's
got the connection with Connor, and of course those two
are good friends with Nurse, so there's that trio there.
But it's a little bit weird to see a CC moved.
His name has been around for a while. I thought
that he was going to get traded, honestly, sooner, and

(14:22):
it was almost just pending time before he was sent
somewhere else. But now he's gone, and I don't really
think it'll it will affect an extension for dry Syttle.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
Yeah, I would agree. He's known as mister Game seven
for a reason. So it was tough losing CC in
terms of the room and the guys. I mean, he
was a little shaky with Nurse in the playoffs, and
he had his own problems. He was really good in
his first year with the Oilers, but I think we
all knew after the last two years that stuff wasn't
going to pan out and he was making too much money.

(14:58):
Here's another thing they talked about though, I was moving
on from Kulak. I thought that that was a bit
of a mistake if they would have he's such a
solid defenseman overall. Looking into the left side of the d.
What would you think of moving Kulak instead of CC.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Well, really, on that.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
Left side, it's you got Nurse, you got Eck home,
and then it's Kulak. And Kulak's a solid guy. There's
no complaints from me in his game really whatsoever. He's
there for what you pay him for. Good value, local
guy from Alberta at least, And I think that's a

(15:36):
piece that the Oilers should hold on to just to
really solidify that bottom end. But if there's a move
that can happen to propel the Oilers into getting a
bigger piece on the back end, that's the only reason
and only situation that I'd see them really needing to
move or having the not the big but just really

(16:02):
the reason to try and move a Kulak on defense.

Speaker 1 (16:07):
Yeah, he's He's definitely a strong piece. I would not
be happy if they moved them in the playoffs. He
plays really well. At the time, it was looked at
as a value deal, he was a really good player
and he's been really solid with the Oilers ever since. Obviously,
there's a statistic that he's played every game so far
for the Oilers that in the season so he's been

(16:29):
really good. Looking into next year, now the Oilers, it's
going to be interesting their goaltending. That's the one thing.
Obviously Skinner's played decently in the playoffs. Now going into goaltending,
I wouldn't expect to see any goaltending moves this year,

(16:51):
how about you.

Speaker 3 (16:53):
Honestly, I think the Oilers have their guy, and Stuart
Skinner he's on a value tract for the amount of
times that you're gonna have to be playing him in
the regular season. I don't think a pickard is really
gonna step out there and play thirty games. He's good
in small sample sizes and that was a good pickup

(17:16):
from the Oilers to get pickered. But now the Jack
Campbell buy out, of course he's gone. He's been gone.
Stuart Skinner, I think he's the guy to stay around.
Fans like him, seems like the room loves him, and
he's only going to get better. He's young, he's I
think twenty four in around that range, twenty four to

(17:37):
twenty five years old, and he's still a young goaltender.
He's still got time to grow learn the game, and
he's only getting better and better. The Oilers really only
questioned in their goaltending is if playoff performance could really
match up. Stuart Skinner came into his own on the
latter half of the playoffs, but career wise, throughout his

(18:02):
entire stay with the Oilers so far it hasn't been
that great. But ye, he's progressing and he's only going
to get better, So I don't think there's going to
be any moves in between the pipes.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
Yeah, I think he looked pretty solid in the playoffs.
I was a little skeptical last year about him being
able to take them to a Stanley Cup because of
how shaky kind of their dcorp was, But obviously, I mean,
when you have the best player in the world, two
best players in the world, arguably, you can do that
pretty easy what they did last year. We kind of

(18:36):
talked about some of the guys that are moving on.
Now we can talk about some of the guys that
are coming in, especially in the forward core with Arvidson
and Skinner. What do you expect to see out of
those guys.

Speaker 3 (18:48):
Honestly, I have high hopes for Jeff Skinner. He's been
a thirty goal scorer multiple times. He's had a couple
of rough seasons throughout his time the NHL, and he's
been on some pretty rough teams, being on the Hurricanes
and the Sabers throughout really their droughts. He hasn't made

(19:08):
it to the playoffs, and he's the only player in
NHL history to play over a thousand games in the
regular season without a showing there. But playing with good
players like McDavid, he's really going to be a complimentary piece.
He's got a shot, he's got good hockey IQ, he's
in the right spots, and he's a highly skilled player.
And him coming in for just three million dollars could

(19:29):
be one of the best contracts coming into the year.
And I think he could score thirty goals again for Arvidson.
Amazing piece to to Really, I wouldn't say change or trade,
swap out kind of deal with Fogel.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
I think he's a.

Speaker 3 (19:46):
Better player than Fogel for sure. He's a hard nosed guy.
He can get in dirty on the for check and
really finish plays in towards the net and get those
sort of greasy goals with the skill too. So those
are good, two really good pickups for the Oilers.

Speaker 2 (20:04):
But really, I got I got high.

Speaker 3 (20:06):
Hopes for Jeff Skinner coming around and producing a lot
for the Oilers.

Speaker 1 (20:11):
Yeah, Obviously bringing in Connor Brown last year his regular
season success wasn't great. I'm really hoping that Skinner can
play really well with McDavid or dry Style, whoever's he's
put with. Arbitson really good piece as well, gritty. I mean,
he could be a bit of a rat as well.
Some people say some of the guys that have been

(20:33):
brought back here like Corey Perry, Connor Brown, TSCN Mark,
some of those guys. What do you think on bringing
some of those guys back?

Speaker 2 (20:45):
Well? I like keeping Connor Brown.

Speaker 3 (20:47):
He came around from the injury and finally started playing
semi up to the contract the Oilers gave him. Fans
love him. I was there when he scored his very
first goal of his season and really got off that
drought monkey off the back and it was great that.
I've never been in an atmosphere for the Oilers or

(21:10):
really anywhere at a concert or anything that has been
that loud, So bringing back somebody like Connor Brown is great,
especially connections with McDavid and things like that. Yan Mark
is and has always been a really good depth piece
for the Oilers. So that's another good pickup and good
guy to bring back to really keep that third line intact.

(21:31):
And then a Cory Perry though that was the one
signing and re signing that I thought was unnecessary. Especially
he's aging right like he's super old, he lost his boots,
He's not quick whatsoever. He doesn't do too much, but
he is and without a doubt, a great veteran presence

(21:55):
in the locker room. And I think that's really the
biggest reason why the Edmonton Oilers decided to keep him around.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
Yeah, I thought for the over a million bucks that
he got, that was not not great. I thought they
brought a few too many guys in at forward, especially
the Oilers. Maybe we're thinking it's it's our time to
win now, not focusing as much on Holloway and Broberg
like we were talking about, and bringing in a guy

(22:25):
like Perry who's got that experience. Obviously he didn't play
much in the playoffs because of the speed, but I
didn't really get this signing. Paying over a million bucks
for a guy who's losing foot speed. You could have
done something better with that money. And obviously them being
in cap issues, maybe not having him wouldn't have been
the worst thing. The Brown line yan Mark Brown Mark,

(22:47):
as they say, they were buzzing in the playoffs. I
went to a lot of the games and really bringing
the energy. That was part of the reason why the
Oilers went that deep, especially in the comeback in the
Stanley Cup finals. They played really, really well and they
were the hot line to watch out for in the
Stanley Cup finals and all playoffs. Really we can kind

(23:09):
of switch over here. We kind of did our thing
about the Oilers. I think we both think that they're
going to win the Cup next year if they if
everything goes right. Switching in to kind of the river Hawks.
They kind of ended off their season. It was it
was rough. They ended up losing back to back games
in a three game series. You did the podcast for

(23:32):
Edmpton Sports Talk Riverhawks Weekly. How did you think that.

Speaker 3 (23:36):
That end was, Like, well, it was very unfortunate because
you know, throughout this season being a good team like
the Riverhawks were, they lost multiple pieces to the MLB draft,
five current and former players in total being drafted to
the MLB, so some had to go back to college.

(23:57):
That's a hard part about really a summer league is
that your team looks.

Speaker 2 (24:03):
Like much, much, much.

Speaker 3 (24:05):
Different towards the end of the season when you're losing
players like that, and talking to players and the coach,
Jake Lanforman, it was a bit of an adjustment. There
was points where they're losing in towards the end of
the season and it really came down to the last
few games to get into the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (24:22):
But being to the playoffs for the.

Speaker 3 (24:25):
First time in franchise history, I still think it was
a successful season, even though they dropped that series against
the Bells.

Speaker 2 (24:33):
So honestly, the ending, as much as.

Speaker 3 (24:36):
It might sting a little bit, I think it was
a great showing winning their one home game that they
had in the playoffs, right at home, first playoff game
one in franchise history. Just great stuff all round, great
season all round, and honestly, can't complain too much about it,
But would I like to see them move on for sure?

Speaker 1 (24:59):
Yeah. I was lucky enough to be at that game.
It was pretty awesome. I mean, hal and Noll unbelievable
all season. Ever since he's been with the river Hawks,
he's been great. It's pretty cool to see the pac
crowd that they've had, the way they've been able to
bring people in. Some people aren't necessarily baseball fans, but

(25:19):
they like having a good time, and I think the
river Hawks have done an amazing job at that, bringing
in people to have a fun time, having theme nights.
They've done a great job with that, and I think
that's a lot of credit to Steve Hogo, the general manager.
Great great job from him. They've done a great job there,

(25:41):
and I think other teams can take notes on that,
and even in the Elks, I mean, you can see
how they are right now. They can take notes on
that and do things to bring more people in. But
that was a huge win for the river Hawks, big
one in their franchise history. It was tough to lose
back to back. Were after that game, we're all kind
of hopeful that they'd be back again with another sold

(26:04):
out crowd drop in two though both in close games.
We can move a little bit to the Elks here.
I know they have been a lot better recently. What
do you think of their last the their win streak
that they're on right now.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
Well, honestly, they've been really biting the bullet and a.

Speaker 3 (26:25):
Lot of their losses at the start of the season
going what oh to seven and for those were three
point games, like they were in it to try and play,
and they sabotaged themselves a lot really in the early
earlier part of the seasons. But to come come in
and win against the rough Riders, I thought that was

(26:47):
was a bit shocking, even though Trevor Harris was out
and there was a lot of injuries on their side.
It's just great to see getting a win streak now
after dropping so many games, games three in a row
for the first time since twenty eighteen, which is insane
to think for the Elks, They've really have not had

(27:10):
that grade of a history, but they've been playing pretty
good and moving on. I mean Trey Ford when he
was put in, I believe it was the game that
they lost. I don't remember too but he had what
four touchdowns in the fourth quarter, three touchdowns like he
just went off and he's a little banged up.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
He had limited minutes today in practice. I think they
might go.

Speaker 3 (27:35):
Back to McLeod Bethel Thompson, but honestly, here's hoping that
they could roll on and the Alouettes now is a tough,
tough challenge.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
Yeah, I think the way they've won these last three games.
Is moving up step by step to get to this
challenge here. Obviously, tray Ford didn't play those first seven games.
People were hard on NBT because he got a big
contract with with Edmonton. He's an aging quarterback. It was
really important for them to bring in a new coach

(28:09):
general manager. I thought that was a great move. Uh,
the Outlets are gonna be really tough. Trey Ford is out.
NBT has looked great though the last couple of games,
and like you said earlier, them being close games at
the start of the season. NBT feels like he looks
a little more calm now the way the way he's playing. Uh,
they played a lot better. Javon Leak there running back,

(28:32):
has gone gone crazy in his last three games. That's
been part of the reason why they've been so good.
The defense also has been unbelievable. I think they had
five turnovers last game or something like that. So they've
been really good. I'm really excited to see what happens
with the Elks. There's a chance that they could push

(28:53):
for a playoff spot if they beat the Altlets. That's
going to be the talk. I think they got a
real shot at finding aff spot.

Speaker 3 (29:00):
In general, well, even if they can put the pressure on,
like credit to Jerry's Jackson and Company, and it's it's
all round, been great changes I think for the Elks
ownership wise and moving on from Chris Jones and trying
to bring new faces and it's it brings confidence back.
And now it's really a big challenge if the Elks

(29:24):
can go into the game against.

Speaker 2 (29:26):
The seven to one Alouettes Austin.

Speaker 3 (29:28):
Mack being being back, not really he got cut from
the NFL, so he's he's back in the CFL. Now
that's like, it's it's scary. And if the Elks do
really try and put on a show and push hard
to try and win the game, they they have a chance.
Football is a weird game. You have a chance in

(29:50):
every single game. But even I think if the Elks
drop that game, but it's close, it's not a complete blowout,
it's improvement and it's very positive and I think both
the team and fans can walk could walk away from
that game being very happy.

Speaker 1 (30:08):
Yeah, I would agree. I think the Elks, if they
put some pressure on, I can call a successful season.
I mean they've got two really really good quarterbacks. Hopefully
a franchise quarterback and Trey Ford. I know his contracts
upcoming this year and it'll be interesting to see what
happens with that. But they've got a great situation there
right now, and even the offense has looked really good,

(30:31):
so was the defense. So if they can keep stringing
these together, maybe we got a real shot at in
the playoffs. Moving on, I got one more thing for
you here before we wrap it up, So I like
to do predictions with all my guests here. So I
want your NHL Stanley Cup prediction. I want your NFL prediction,

(30:52):
and then your CFL prediction for this year. Those are
the three that I want.

Speaker 3 (30:57):
Oh man, Okay, let me think the winners or okay, yeah, Well,
there's a lot of teams in the NHL that I
could look at. Obviously the Oilers it I thought last
year was a cupp or bust for them, but losing
in Game seven, you can't complain about that.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
So it's their first kick at the can in the final.

Speaker 3 (31:20):
If they make some moves happen, I think they're gonna
be the favorite. Coming in the Avalanche, a little bit
change in their team. Ranton, Yeah, looking to be back
for the first time in two seasons. That's that's gonna
be a little bit weird to come back from. But
Ranton is a great players, so there's another huge piece

(31:40):
back for them.

Speaker 2 (31:41):
Toronto's up in the mix the.

Speaker 3 (31:43):
Rangers, but I gotta I gotta maybe be a homer,
but I gotta say the oilers for for the NHL
and then moving on to the NFL. Not the biggest
NFL guy, but honestly, I'm thinking about it. There's a
there's a lot of teams that stick out to me, like,
I don't know, forty nine ers, the Ravens are there,

(32:07):
Derrick Henry if.

Speaker 2 (32:09):
He could show up big for them.

Speaker 3 (32:10):
They got Lamar Jackson, they got two superstars and building
team right there. Lions showed up well the first time
was in in the playoffs or something for like thirty years.
That that's crazy. But honestly, I might just I might
just say the Lions for that one that is and CFL.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
You know, I I'm really thinking about it.

Speaker 3 (32:36):
I had rough Riders in the early goings to try
and make that push, but they've fallen off a little
bit and the Alouettes are looking really good now. The
Argonauts have Chad Kelly back, so there's that BC is
they got Nathan Rourke and Vernon Adams junior. So I

(32:58):
think the Lions have been the team that has stuck
out to me the most in the CFL this season.

Speaker 2 (33:02):
So I'm gonna go with the BC Lions.

Speaker 1 (33:05):
Yeah, those are great takes. Obviously, the Oilers coming in,
they're gonna be hungry to be right back. And that
was the statistic. I mean, Crosby lost the Stanley Cup
the first time and then he won it the next year,
so there was statistic with that. On the other side,
the Lions unfortunately beating my Rams. It was pretty tough

(33:26):
to see being a Rams fan, but it was. It
was good for them. They finally got some playoffs success,
some of those fans obviously crying after one playoff win,
and their team looks really good. They got some dogs.
The Lions also probably the best quarterback situation in the
league from great quarterbacks overall, I think that we can

(33:48):
wrap it up here. Zach. Thanks for coming on today.
It was really fun talking to you.

Speaker 2 (33:53):
Yeah, it was a pleasure to be on the show.

Speaker 3 (33:55):
It was a lot of fun chatting with you, and
I gotta say I'm glad you didn't asked me about
Josh Clawson.

Speaker 1 (34:02):
Oh, actually, we might have to. Now we might we.

Speaker 2 (34:05):
Might we might have to. We might have a mouth shut.

Speaker 1 (34:08):
We we might have to. I totally forgot about that
we might have to bring in the rap here. So
you were on Evanton Sports Talk the other day and
said you could, uh, you could, you could rap pretty well.
Is that is that true?

Speaker 2 (34:23):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (34:24):
I I wouldn't say, well, that's maybe tooting the horn
a little bit, but I don't know.

Speaker 2 (34:28):
I have fun with it sometimes. Uh, I'm I'm no.
Josh Clausson. He's been doing it longer than I've been alive.

Speaker 3 (34:36):
He's got some skill. And one thought just popped in
my head one day a few months back. I'm like,
what if I somehow rapped against Josh Clawson in some
form of way or something and it just came up.

Speaker 2 (34:51):
I didn't. I didn't have it planned or nothing. It
just came up.

Speaker 3 (34:54):
When we're when we were talking about really live performances
of the year. We got s Jesus kind of like
the SP's but Freedmonton Sports Talk fun stuff like that,
giving away prizes and stuff to fans and hosts and stuff,
and Clawson is up for live performance of the Year
because he came on our show The Hangout to wrap

(35:14):
a couple times, and he did it three times. I
think total this year is so I thought, you know what,
I'm I'm gonna shoot my shot.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
I'm gonna see what I can do.

Speaker 3 (35:23):
And I don't know, he still has to respawn to
my might come back to his first song or rap
against me or whatever.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
I don't know. I can't, I can't lie. I'm a
bit scared.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
We might need a Zach Josh rap battle.

Speaker 3 (35:38):
On est one day that that would be big, that
would be great content.

Speaker 1 (35:45):
That would do numbers, that would do numbers for sure. Zach,
where can they find you on Instagram?

Speaker 3 (35:50):
And then x yeah on Instagram and x Zachary HMK
z A C h A R y HMK.

Speaker 2 (36:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (36:01):
That's really the two platforms that I'm biggest on. But
you know, I'm working at Edmonton's Sports Talk, which is great,
so you can see me there on the show's there
sometimes I like I'm a producer there, so mainly I'm
behind the screen.

Speaker 2 (36:15):
But yeah, that's about it.

Speaker 1 (36:19):
Well, thanks for coming on today. It was great. It
was great having another guest on. That'll wrap us up.
