Speaker 1 (00:02):
Good morning to you, age thirty four. It's time for mayor.
On there. We've got the WD Mayor Robert Butterfield and
the general manager Scott Riley. Good morning to you, gentlemen.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Good morning Andrew, Good morning Andrew.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Okay, we've got no listen to questions, so let's go
to that may council meeting.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
So the main council meeting was held on Tuesday night
and it was packed full of reports and updates, which
was great, and we'll also start providing detailed information to
the community soon regarding the outcomes of those meetings, but
we've got some summary to come. But also one good
community thing that came out of that meeting was we
actually confirmed the names for Howard's Park and Headley Fall Park,

(00:39):
so the parking zone and the parking Queenstown and those
names are actually going to be now registered on place names,
so it's official names for those And also out of
that meeting there is when those playgrounds are open, there's
going to be a small small park with some information
about how those parks were named and who they were
named after, people in our community. So that's really good.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
It sounds great. Now we've been off for disclosure coming
in a week's time.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
Yep, So our council offices will be closed on Monday,
the ninth of June twenty twenty five for the King's
Birthday public holiday. For dog related emergencies, please contact the police.
To report a council related emergency or a serious safety concern,
please contact the main office number which is three six
four seven one four seven hundred and that'll be directed
to our after ours team. Just reminded that credit card

(01:23):
payments can be made via Council's website. For food licensed registrations, rates,
payments invoices, building and planning applications, or any fines and infringements.
For inquiries including trees across roads relating to highways and
roads outside town boundaries, please contact the Department of State
Growth and their numbers one three hundred one three nine
nine three three. And for all inquiries relating to water

(01:44):
or sewage, please contact has Water on one three six
nine to ninety two. And during this time the rubbish
collection and waste transfer stations will operate as normal.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
So okay, we've got dog Manchevian Scott. What's that about?

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Yes, certainly have one of the reports that was considered.
The meeting on Tuesday was the fees and charges for
dog registrations and they are due on the first of
July each year. We've taken the opportunity to review those
as part of the policy. There will be an early
communication with all our customers in that space. We're going

(02:16):
to offer a ten percent discount for payment prior to
the first of July. But there will be information coming
out to all those people that have their dog registered
or those in community that have a new pup that
want to register. The process certainly open to communication around that.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
So six months an older, that's correct, right, Well, Scott Robert,
we're going to take a break now. Yes, we're back
with Mayor on air, Deputy Mayor Robert Butterfield and also
the general manager of the West Coast Council, Scott Riley.

(02:55):
Scott Rates and Remission policy.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Yes, council considered it. It's meeting last year Uesday a
revision to its rates and remissions policy. This policy must
be made on an annual basis pride to setting the
next year's financial rates for everybody in community. Again, we're
taking the opportunity view the existing policy and make some

(03:17):
tweaks and changes.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
To that.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
We want to make our rating system less complicated and
also fairer for ratepayers. Changes as part of the policy
will include simpler rating categories and waste management charges, so
looking to simplify that. There will be no stormwater charge.
We're looking at how we can reshape that. There will
be residents that have two or more bins. There will

(03:42):
be some tweaks around that. Rate payers will receive the
government pensionary remission, will receive an additional fifty dollars discount
in that space. Also a simpler process for not pro
profit organizations to apply for a rate remission.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
That sounds pretty good.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
And then the continueuation of the rebate for new home builders.
We're very keen to sort of push new construction in
our region, creating supply for housing, which everybody's acutely aware of.
We'll also have the four installments still being offered again.
Will be communicating with ratepayers about all of the changes
that I mentioned. We're also going to try something different

(04:22):
and this is probably new for the West Coast rate
payers who pay their rates in full. We'll go into
the draw to receive one of four vouchers. Vouchers will
be valued at two thousand and one thousand and two
five hundreds. Those vouches we can only be spent on
the West Coast, so we're looking at combining some economic
stimulation for local.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Business sounds like buying local.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
That is absolutely correct, and then business and government departments
and council staff will not be eligible.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
That's fair enough. That's fair enough now, Scott, while we
still have you there the electronic rates notice.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
That is correct. Yes, we're moving more into the digital
space as our systems move forward, so you can receive
your rates NATUS director email, you can if you prefer,
you can have your rates notus forrect electronically registered by
scanning the QR code that's on the current rate names.
Or if you really want to talk to a human being,

(05:19):
happy for people to come in and talk to us
face to face.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
That sounds great, okay, Robert, Light Up the West I'm
loving this.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
Yeah, it sounds exciting and do light up the Light
Up the West of festival to activate the West Coast
in June traditionally required a month. The Regional Tourism Association
west By Northwest has received funding to put on two
free audio visual events and these events will be in
Strawn in Queen's doown across two weekends, so on two
separate weekends. Businesses and community groups are working together to
have other events and activities happening to build on the

(05:48):
light shows.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Right.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
This is on the back of the successful Straw and
Sostice held last year, which will be happening again in
line with a Straw and Light Up show between nineteenth
and twenty second of June and the Light Up Showing
Queens down to the twenty seventh of the twenty ninth
June of June. Councilors supporting this festival through facilitating discussions
and connecting stakeholders, spreading the words through our communities and
the West Coast Visitor Information Center will be open extended

(06:11):
ours during the strong weekend, an event where page has
also been developed and for more information head to West
Coast tazz dot com, dot au forward slash Light Up
the West. So it sounds like a really exciting event,
good weekend, two good weekends, quite a time of year,
So I'm going to get out and have a look and.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Carriage over from to dawn. It'll all be lit up.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
It'll be lit up, wow. So it will be really
good and I'm excited to see how our light out
lighting up looks.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
And of course is going to bring visitors in.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
That's correct. And as visitors into the region, one of
the opportunities I'll see is in Rosebury at our East
Eastern or Northeastern gateway along with Taala, They're going to
see a light display there as well.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
Wow, I'm getting evolved. But anything else in council we
need to know about. We've got the park across the road.
Can we talk about that?

Speaker 2 (07:06):
Yes, we can. We can talk about the park.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
Okay, when is it going to be finished? Because it
seems to be some people, there's some not The contractors
have sort of here and there.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
Contractors are moving in and out of the site. We
did have some hold ups with underground power supply and
some nervous people in Hobart around that that dynamic has
been addressed. We're due to be completed around the end
of June, so we're a few more weeks away. And
you can tell that Council has been working on both
of those projects by officially registering the names of the

(07:36):
two parks, working through and acknowledging the founding fathers.

Speaker 1 (07:40):
Who are they, who.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
They are and how they contributed to Commune.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
Look forward to that park being finished by the end
of June.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
Yes, certainly.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
Okay, gentlemen, if that's all we've got to talk about,
we will see you next week.
