Speaker 1 (00:03):
Good morning gentlemen. Welcome along Mare on air. We've got
general manager Scott Riley, Good morning Air, Robert Butterfield. How
are we we will yourself, I'll get you on Mike.
Yes I have. Okay, let's get to it because we've
had a lot to talk about. We've got a listener question.
It's from Wendy Anthony. She says, where can people, namely tourists,
access water for vans etc. There are a number of places,
(00:26):
but perhaps have either been turned off or disconnected. I've
been in touch with the caravan park, but that isn't
an option unless you are staying there.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Thank you, Andrew. And the question from Wendy is greatly appreciated.
With a couple of the redevelopments that we've got going
on in our public spaces, I could certainly take that
on notice and get back and put something back out
to Wendy. There has been a number of circumstances where
the infrastructure has aged, and the dynamics around that is
that it's not maintaining the health quality that we need.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Right, Okay, we'll get back to that. We've got enough
office closure having on Monday.
Speaker 3 (01:00):

all the requirements related to the financial year. The council
office will be closed from four pm on Monday to

to waste collection services and waste transfer station operations over
the public holiday period. For any public holiday periods for
dog related emergencies, please contact the police. For all other inquiries,
including registering a service request please contact the Council office
(02:04):
from eight thirty am on Tuesday, the first of July
or visit www dot West Coast do tas dot dot
au for information on council services.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
And of course we've got dog registrations which close on
the thirtieth of June.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Yep, so dog registration renewals have been sent out to residents.
Registration renewals and new dog registrations need to be completed
by the thirtieth of June and those will receive a
fee discount. Council also offers a discount for Concession cardholders
and dog owners can pay annual registration fees. However, Council
also offers registration for three years or high of life,
(02:37):
which is a great option to save money and remove
the risk forgetting to register your pet. Registration renewals and
new dog registrations can be completed at the Council office
at our agencies at the Strong Post Office, ZM Post
Office and Roseby District School. Remember to bring our proof
of sterilization and microchipping when you're registering your dog for
the first time, and if your dog was registered previously
(02:58):
with West Coast Council and you haven't received a renewal natus,
please contact the office and if you've left the West
Coast or bid fair Wild or a dear companion, please
advise our council so our records can be updated accordingly.
Speaker 1 (03:08):
Okay, food license for renewals.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
Yep, so food license renewals. Food businesses are We'll be
receiving their license renewals this week. Current food licenses expire
on the thirtieth of June. Existing street dining permits will
be invoiced separately, with new discounted fee of one hundred
dollars per table to be introduced for the twenty twenty
five twenty twenty six financial years. If you're yet to
receive your food business renewal, please contact the office for assistance.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
Okay, we go to scott Now we've got a position
vacant for a plant operator.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Yes we have. We're looking for a new team member,
a plant operator, someone primarily based in Zene, but as
working as part of the broader sort of outdoor crew
across the rest of the region as well, working basically
on council assets ranging from roads, stormwater, parks and recreational areas.
(03:59):
A whole lot of different plant to operate and also
potentially working in the space around waste management services working
at the landfill as well. If you have a heavy
rigid license, we'd love to hear from you and the
recruitment pack and position descriptions available on our website and
most Important Thing applications close Sunday, the sixth of July.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Okay recycling shed. This sounds interesting.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
This is a fabulous opportunity, Andrew. The recycling shed was
considered by council on Tuesday night and the tender was approved.
We have a project to actually build a dedicated shed
over at the Zone Landfall for receiving sort in temporary
storage of recyclable materials. The recyclable materials, there's a lot
(04:45):
of suspicions in community that it goes directly to landfill.
That is not the case. If we have contaminated material,
unfortunately it has to go to landfill. But essentially we're
running very frequently the North Coast up to Sprayton and
that dynamic where this shed will give us the capacity
(05:05):
to consolidate loads and actually give us a lot better
bang for our buck in terms of the delivery of
the service. Currently, non recyclables if they're placed in the
yellow bin actually compromises that. So we're keen as part
of our program moving forward to actually do some education
in that space, and we'd encourage listeners to actually be
(05:26):
looking out for that. The best thing for recycling is
to actually have it sorted at the source, and that's
at the household level, and then separating those items between
the green bin and the yellow bin is essentially a
very important part of that just for listeners information. The
most valuable thing that the community has in its landfill
(05:49):
is actually the airspace, okay. And the dynamic is the
slower you fill your landfill up, the greater the cost
efficiency you have in running your service.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Now talking about the bin and the yellow bin, will
we be getting yellow bins free a charge.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
In moving forward? Once this piece of infrastructure is put
in place, council will be reviewing over the next twelve months.
It's way strategy. There's a number of things that particularly
i'd encourage counsel to look at, but this piece of
infrastructure is very very important as part of that process.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
Okay, sounds great. Okay, we can take a break now auning.
(07:00):
You're on West Coast seven excess. It is eight forty
four back with mere on air. We just had a
phone call from a lady called Claudia. It's talking about
the Fogo bins.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Yes, Andrew. In terms of Fogo. Most recently this week
Council received a presentation from Dulverton, which is the North
Coast Waste Management Authority. That particular conversation did involve Fogo.
There was consensus in the room that recyclables is our
first step. As we talked about with our project, the
(07:31):
dynamic is to implement that, straightened out the recycling and
then consider moving to Fogo. So certainly on my radar
as the general manager, to be looking and moving towards
a solution.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
So how long are we looking at?
Speaker 2 (07:44):
Council will be reviewing that within the next six to
nine months in terms of its wayte strategy. This project
around the recyclables building itself on the Zen landfill that
should be finished by Christmas, so we'll be definitely into
the conversation so that we can continue that walk forward.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
Okay, Claudia, you heard that from the general manager. Okay
to Robert. By Annual Cleanup yep.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
So it was great to see that over one hundred
properties registered for the free By Annual Cleanup that was
held in May. White goods were a popular item left
out for collection and continuing with our desire to increase
recycling options, a number of metal items from the cleanup
were also sent to recycling. So Council is also looking
to send some of the team members to the Dalverton Facility,
which is the waste management facility in the Northwest and
(08:30):
this will help build skills and awareness around waste and
recycling management.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
So it you while, I've been to the facility before
I came down here. It is fantastic.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
It's a great facility. They do some really good work.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
Yeah, ok, Robert, with you again. Light Up the West
it kicks off today, all right.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
So the Strong community work together to offer the Straw
and Solstice events on the weekend. This year held part
of the Light Up the West Coast event which saw
the regular Tourism Regional Tourism body west by Northwest received
funding to engage an artists to increase our audio displays
in locations across the West and the Northwest. The Strong
Post Office was lit up with an amazing display with
(09:06):
people able to use headphones to wear hear the visual component.
It was a great weekend with people out and about
visitors and locals enjoying activities such as the street market,
art exhibition, Twilight Cruise and live music. Quite a few
brave people accepted the challenge to plunge into the cold
borders of Macquarie Harbor and three of Council's team members
jumped in off the boat on Saturday afternoon, which was myself,
(09:28):
Councilor Anie McKay and Ron Weldon from the West Coast
visited the Information center and that border was rather cold.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
Of you did it, I did it.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
I swam rather quickly to the latter so he'd get out.
I didn't stay there.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Any longer than I had to, fair enough.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
But it was a really good event. And on Sunday
morning a crowd gathered at dawn read the swim at
the West Drawn Beach with Annie and Bron participating again.
So that was really good, well down to all involved,
and over two five hundred dollars was raised for the
charity Speak Up Stage Chatty, which is a great course.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
There's we've got ours this weekend.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
Yeah, that's correct. The Queenstan's Turn for Colors of Queenstown
Light and Sound show on the side of the Paragrind
Theater tonight Friday night and then tomorrow Saturday night with
places available for the shows seven, seven thirty and eight pm.
The dynamics around that is it's a great opportunity for us.
Other activities over the weekend include the exhibitions from the
(10:24):
Soggibrowlli and karaoke at the Empire, Feast of the West
Coast Wilderness Railway and Lost Mine tours with Rome wild
It's great to see Zine and Rosebury joining the activities
as well. It's been I had the opportunity one evening
during the week to drive through Rosebury and the dynamics
around there with the lights up as fabulous.
Speaker 1 (10:44):
It's fantastic, isn't that. Yeah? Okay, let's go to the rates.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Now, Okay, the rates. Essentially, it's that time of the
year where council staff are working on the budget itself.
At the main meeting, council considered an adopted a new
rates policy which is to be reviewed each year. There's
a whole lot of work being done behind the scenes
in terms of balancing the rates and where we want
(11:09):
to go with our projects. In the next twelve months.
There will be a couple of significant things that will
occur this year. There will be a simplification of the
rate categories. There will be some removal of stormwater charges
and balancing those things out, simplification of the waste management charge,
and an additional fifty dollars rebate to rate payers who
(11:29):
receive the government pension remission.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
Does that include people who rent?
Speaker 2 (11:34):
That? Does that does? Continuation of the rate remissions policy
for not profit organizations will also be part of that
simplified process, and a continuation of a rebate for new
home builders. With these changes, rate notices the amount charge.
The amount charge will actually change on the rate narers.
(11:57):
So there will be a set of simplifications and if
there's any questions out of that, we encourage people to
make contact with us. The total rates increase will be
more in line with CPI, different to a number of
other local government authorities and sort of it will be
sitting around that mark and councilor will consider that at
(12:19):
a meeting shortly. Also, the rate payers will go automatically
go into a draw if they pay their rates in full,
and that voucher system will be a two thousand and
one five hundred. The winners will be drawn at the
September council meeting. So that's a great positive for those
(12:40):
that's correct. Yes, and properties owned by businesses, governments as
these council staff and councilors will be clearly ineligible.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
Fair enough, fair enough. So anything else that we need
to talk about, no, not from me Andrew.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
It's been a great mining.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
It has very foggy out there still. If you're on
the roads, just take it easier. A lot of people don't.
They just keep flying and think they're superman until something happens.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
But it's been great to see a little bit of
snow on the mountain.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
This beautiful. It was like a kid when I saw it.
Ah snow there. But yeah, yeah, it's just some start
to come. I reckon.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
The days are going to get longer, so enjoy the
remaining we Dicis festivities and stay safe out there.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
