Speaker 1 (00:02):
Yes, good morning too. It is Mayor on air. We
are talking with general manager Scott Riley. Good morning Scott,
Good morning Andrew. How are you Friday? Good to love it,
certainly do and I tee what the weather's not as
bad as what I thought it was going to be.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
So it's looking better over the weekend than what a
lot of people predicted.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Look at that sun coming through the windows.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
That's correct. We've got half the blind down here.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
That's it. That's it. Okay, we've got some listener questions.
I've got one from Joe Taylor, he said. Rumour has
it that the West Coast Council is trying to charge
the Queenstown Oskick program around two thy for ten sessions
to use the oval for one hour a week. Council
provides nothing else for our West Coast children, and she'll
be trying to support every child in every way they can,

(00:42):
not just making a fortune.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
In terms of that one. It's a new rumor to me.
I'll certainly investigate that and probably bring back some comments
next time we're on air. Yep, but I want to
communicate clearly to the listeners. Is it council values sport
and record creation, it's part of our health and wellbeing strategy,
and I'll certainly follow that up and bring back a response.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
Okay, we'll do that. Okay. Council meeting that you had
on Tuesday night.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yes, we had all counselors attend on Tuesday night. Probably
one of the most significant things we had in that
space was the annual plan that linked into our health
and wellbeing strategy, our youth plan, and partnerships with our communities.
We have a modest capax program primarily focused on resetting

(01:32):
and completing all our projects. And I know the listeners
are very interested about the park in Queenstown. That particular
park has had the mulch delivered and that's one of
the last phases that happened.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
I think Koltreet truck was there this morning.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
That's correct, and we're in the space where we're not
very far away from that. But our annual plan this
year is primarily built around resetting and being in a
space where we can complete our projects and prepare ourselves
for the few years ahead.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
Okay, notice rates delay.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Yes, we passed the resolution on Tuesday night that the
rates have been delayed because of some software challenges with
our provider. So our rates. The first installment is going
to be due on the thirtieth of September. That allow
rate pays enough time to qualify for the West Coast
Winners program, but also acknowledging that extending that time gives

(02:26):
them a little bit extraep. The dynamic around that is
that the second installment will be a little bit closer.
We just want to make sure that people are aware
of that. But that extension date to Painfull is the
thirtieth of September.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
And there's a benefit there if you're painingful as well.
That's correct, right, okay. Notice for food businesses.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Yes, food licenses expired on the thirtieth of June, so
if you have a food license, we're encouraging you to
renew that. Being a year of the unconformity, we're expecting
a lift, particularly in Queenstown and all the other communities
based upon the transport network they're putting in the bend.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Does it come here with their own food they saying.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Qualified, Yes, they have to have a food license. We
have reciprocal arrangements in the state. The food license renewal
can be paid at the council offices or agencies and
our website.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
Right, Scott, We're going to take a break now it's
eight thirty seven. Well you're talking with the general manager,
Scott Riley with Mayor on air. Welcome back to Scott,
Thanks Andrew. Okay, let's get to a Bendigo bank.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
Yes, this is probably one of the most significant task
councils engaged in at the moment. This morning we have
written to the Federal Treasurer Jim Charmers and also the
Committee Secretary for the Senate Standing Committee on Rugal and
Rural Affairs and Transport. With the new federal government being
bettered down, essentially we don't have a chair for that,

(04:00):
so we've written to the Secretary. Council passed a resolution
on Tuesday night under the Mayor's guidance, which said, in
light of the West Coast Council losing its last bank,
the Bendigo Bank, the Westcast Council calls on the Albernese
Government to respond urgently to the report to the Senate
r At Committee Inquiry into bank enclosures in Regional Australia

(04:25):
and to the communicate the motion to all Tasmanian MP's senators,
PM Albanesi and Treasurer Jim Charmers and Financial Services Minister
Daniel Muelo. I think it is that was carried unanimously.
That's the latest step that we've taken, communicating those correspondents

(04:46):
and reminding everybody that the public meeting will be three
pm on Sunday, the third of August. I'm really encouraging
everybody to come to that meeting. There'll be further updates
in relation to steps that we've taken. There will be
a serious conversation in relation to whether the community can
respond in different ways to the Bendigo Bank.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
I've been speaking to Robert Barwick now, I spoke to
him yesterday. He's the Citizens Party and he says we
don't need to be forced to bank online.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
That's one of the things that we're currently engaged in conversations.
This is our last face to face branch. The Benigo
Bank has told us that well, you can travel to Bernie,
but we know their branch in Bernie is only open
three and a half days a week, so it's not
going to suit everybody with their business or the clubs

(05:40):
of the like. You know, we have small sporting clubs
here that bank with Bendigo that can't afford those fees
through bank at posts. There's a whole set of scenarios
that we're interested to hear from community to consolidate that.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
So again it's Sunday, the third of August, three pm
at the Queenstown Memorial Hall.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
That is correct, and we're looking for every everybody to
come and support us and have a vibrant meeting around
the conversation.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Right, Okay, last thing is a positions vacant.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Yes, we've got a couple of positions vacant at this
point in time. I'm actually chasing a conxecutive officer so
as someone to work with the Mayor and myself aquired support,
provide support, dynamic role in that space. We're also looking
for a Community Grants officer that helps us support our

(06:30):
community groups in a minister grants and also do that
on the ground community activation work. Position descriptions are available
online or at Council Officers and applications closed Monday the
eleventh of August. The other one I'd like to talk
about too in the recruitment space is we're launching a
West Coast Skills an Expression of interest process, So if

(06:53):
you go online you'll be able to register your skills
fill out a simplified form and that could potentially lead
to casual work as we have people go on.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
I'm just can ask that, Yes, those.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Sorts of dynamics we're looking at being able to support
people and give them opportunities.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
Right, anything else that we need to know about council.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
No. The other dynamic for us is really to reinforce
the message around the Benigebag. That's the biggest thing on
our played at this point in time, and there'll be
a fair bit of effort and were keen to communicate
with community on the third of August.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Okay, then that wraps up for mea on air for today.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Thank you Andrew.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
