Speaker 1 (00:06):
Good morning gentlemen. We've got Scott Riley and Shane Pitt.
How are we?

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Yeah? Good Andrew, how are you?

Speaker 1 (00:11):
It's Friday? God love it foggy Friday, that.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Is true, but it's going to be a great day outside.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
It'll burn off. Yeah, okme here on air today. Anyway,
we've got the feedback from a listener from two weeks
ago regarding the oskick hire of the Queenstown rick Ground.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
That is correct.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
Andrew Council sets its fees and charges and we did
that at the June meeting this year. Our fees are
split into two categories. That as a way to encourage
local participation in sport. We informed the booking agency or
the organization afl Tasmania of our process and the opportunity

(00:47):
to make an financial inkind application. They look for alternatives.
We were disappointed with that. However, just for listeners benefit,
we do support facility for West Coast children and junior
sport over a number of recreational facilities. You know, our pools, halls,
everything in that space right Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
It's just on that enter.

Speaker 4 (01:10):
I think you know AFL tas if they were they
put in the application, you know, they get money from
a f L Australia for for these different organizations that
you know they run for and these sessions they run
for the kids.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
If it is a local as.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
The GM said, if it's a local organization that's organizing it,
we have got the in kind and application form that
they should have applied for. They would have got the
most likely would have got the session for three. So
you know, you know that goes to council and we
make a determination on that at the council meeting and

(01:53):
and you know some of these other organizations in our
community can probably vouch for that that they've been given
them free applications on some of the on their application
for in kind.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
So yeah, okay, let's talk about the Bend to Go
Bank then, Shane.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
Yeah, we had a public meeting last Sunday in the
Queenstown Memorial Hall.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
I think we had about sixty people in attending.

Speaker 4 (02:15):
We had politicians there as well, so ernin Urkhart, Anita
dow and Gavin Pearce and Robbie Barwick from the Australian Citizens.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Party as well was there.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
So he come all the way over from Melbourne to
be part of that, which was great to see and
put up some good ideas moving forward and give us
a bit of a rundown on what the bendi Go
Bank's been doing right around Australia.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
So it's not just here in little old Queenstown. It's yeah,
they're affecting a lot of constralable around Australia.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
So it's one of them things. And we put a
motion on the floor at the meeting and it was
supported by all the intendees, so it was a unanimous support.
So that motion was in light of the West Coast
losing its last bank, the Bendigo Bank, the West Coast
community calls on the Bendigo Bank to cease the closure

(03:08):
of the Queenstown Bendigo Bank branch and also to the
Albanesi government to respond urgently to the report of the
Senate rr AT Committee's inquiry.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
So that's very important as well because.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
That you know, the big four banks they were I
guess during that inquiry they were very well well. They
supported what the government wanted there or the Senate inquiry wanted,
and they determined that they wouldn't close any banks to
at least twenty twenty seven.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
But the Bendige Banks slipped through.

Speaker 4 (03:42):
The slipped through the holes there because they're not one
of the major four banks.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Yeah, a bit disappointing, but.

Speaker 4 (03:50):
Will continue to fight and you know, if anyone's interested
to signing the petition, Jeannette Lays certainly done a power
of work in that space as well. So should a
big reach out to Jeanette with what she's been doing
with in that space.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
She's done a great job she has. Yes, Okay, let's
look at the annual plan for the Focused Areas Scott Okay.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
In terms of the annual plan, we've got a number
of activities that are moving through over the next few weeks.
Will be sort of highlighting a couple of aspects there
each of the focus areas across the plan. And this
week I'd like to talk about our people. Our community
has been highlighted in the past, but our economy is

(04:34):
this this week, we're continuing to work with the Western
Regional Strategic Partnership to implement changes to feed population growth,
turn that drive in, drive out around. We're also looking
to continue the implementation of the West Coast Digitization Program,
which will uplift engagement with people so that we can

(04:57):
work in that electronic space. We'll also can continue engagement
with the community stakeholders to improve town centers. And next
week we'll talk about another focus area. But the annual
plan is available on the website and the summary of
the budget and the focus areas is also available.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Okay, then Scott will have to take a break and
we'll get back. We are back with Scott and Shane
Mere on air. Okay, we're going to go back to

(05:37):
the Bendigo Bank. Regarding the general ramp requirements.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
Yes, Andrew the challenges that we've had feedback from the
Benigo Bank to say it's okay to use the post
office and we truly appreciate the support that the post
Office provides us with that bank at post facility. However,
the suggestion from Benigo Bank that you know it's completely accessible,
well that's not quite on the mark. In terms of

(06:01):
the access ramp that's available at the post office. Yes,
there is one available. However, if you're actually in a
wheelchair or have a mobility device, there is a requirement
to have a level landing area as you open the door.
We don't have that that meets the requirements in the
current facility. So I'm very interested in residence if they're

(06:23):
finding that as a challenge. And that's not to discredit
the post office and the process that they offer there.
But if the Bendia Bank is suggesting that we go
to the post office and the access is non compliant,
why aren't we keeping the bank open until we manage
that improve that because the current facility is available, as

(06:44):
we're all aware, until gen later on next year.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
Well you think that would stay open until next year
or we get that done.

Speaker 5 (06:51):
If that's the case, that is correct, Yes, and that's
one thing that was discussed at the community meet and
Andrew that you know it's open still got a lease
of bend to Go Bank on that building to June
next year, So why don't they keep it open until
at least then until we can work through.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
What we can do next, what we can do next.
That's exactly right, Okay, we'll have to find out what
happens there. The sky Run event, shamee, this is great one.

Speaker 4 (07:17):
It is great news mate. Yes, and this is a
new event for the region being announced this week. So
that Diverge sky Run is a sky on tri trail
running festival in Queenstown. So the event organizers are still
in the planning phase hoping the event will be running
twenty twenty six, so just around the corner.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
This will be one of the for the eventure in extreme.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
Sports enthusiasts ready to step outside their comfort zone. So
they're fitting right into our West Coast brand as well
with this event.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
The event will be held over two days three days.

Speaker 4 (07:50):
Sorry with participants experienced some jaw dropping our pine ridgeline
so up in the.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
Mountains, we've got the trails there.

Speaker 4 (07:58):
Why not, is it exactly mate, Yes, So they'll go
through the our moonscape landscape plus also the rainforests and
passed the waterfall. So a great event and I think
it's you know, hopefully our council can work with the
organizers here to support that event. We will be by

(08:20):
all means, and I guess the one thing that we
need to make sure that we do get this out
to the public. You know, we've had a couple of
major mountain bike events here in Queenstown on the Mountain
Trail and the community weren't aware that these were happening
right until the last minute, which didn't didn't make the
event all that successful. So and you know, we reached

(08:43):
out to the organizers a couple of times for them
events and they still didn't come back with advertising. But
I think this time we need to make sure that
we get out there and assist the Verge sky Run
to get the public aware of this event.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
And of course if people want things to happen, they've
got to get involved.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Oh that's right, mate.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
And I think you know, talking to a lot a
few of the our business people after the last two events,
them not knowing about it, well they didn't start, it
didn't open.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
Up for the weekend.

Speaker 4 (09:14):
So I think you know, these events wherease accounts. We'll
make sure that we get that out to the public
as best we can through our media avenues. And also
I think you know it's probably a possibility we get
a few pamphlets in the in the supermarkets and the
post of course seven excess of course year, we'll make

(09:34):
sure we give it a run on mayor on air
as well every week. So we need to get these
events out to the public.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
As we'll be Kaleida Catherine out there who's part of
this event.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
Yah.

Speaker 4 (09:47):
And of course if anyone who's wanting to find out
more about this event, they can search Diverge sky Run
in Google and social media, so it's a great event
coming up, mate.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
No worries, ok to the Roseberry child Care shame.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (10:03):
So in the closed session of council meeting on the
twenty second of July, we discussed a report relating to
Rosebury child Care and we approve the recommendation that Council
support with the use of our council owned residents in
Rosebury as the family daycare service. So there's still a
bit more work to be done around the building to

(10:23):
meet regulations. Our Council is really excited to be able
to do what we can to support the delivery of
service over there in Rosebury. So you know, watch this space,
I guess and it is our Family Daycare is early
childhood education and care which is supported in our West

(10:44):
Coast in the planning scheme. So we'll work through the
appropriate permit process to make sure that that comes to fuition.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
So when do you think it will all happen?

Speaker 3 (10:55):
Just to give the listeners an insight, I have a
meeting planned with Coastal Family Daycare in the next couple
of weeks and we'll be looking to support career paths
there from the students that are Curry currently studying in
the study hut over at Zenyep to actually get their
placements and that part of the way. So we're looking
at activation as soon as we possibly can.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
Okay, then's god Okay.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
The Straw Waterfront, Yes, Straw Waterfront. If anybody hasn't been
out and about the opportunity to drop past Strawn, spring
has sprung down by the waterfront. There was a garden
project activated by the Straw and c WA and the
daffodils are out in flower so it is well and
truly underway. Spring wow. And it's whilst you not watles

(11:43):
on the waterfront, but it is the national colors green and.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
Gold, and that brings the mumblebees out.

Speaker 4 (11:47):
And I guess one congratulations to the Straw and c
WAT putting forward that project that they wanted to do,
and you know the councils supported that and it's a
bit of color.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
It's a bit of.

Speaker 4 (11:59):
Color in the town township there at Strawn and if
you you know, for those that have traveled to to
winiond in that area during this time of the year,
well you know, the tulips are out and it's yeah,
it certainly does live and up the atmosphere in the
in the city or the town Center.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
So especially with all that work that's going on at
the moment.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
That's correct, Ma, that's correct, mate.

Speaker 4 (12:21):
And I think you know, we need to appreciate some
of the work that our volunteer groups do around our community. True,
it's not just the strong c w A, but it's
all our communities have got organizations in their community that
are trying to assist.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
To all these volunteers, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
To improve the outlook and the look of our town.

Speaker 4 (12:39):
So you know, it's great the sea and you know
we've got people aving Roseberry and Zion and here in
Queenstowne as well, so and Taller. So you okay, appreciate
all the volunteers that put so many hours into making
our towns look so colorful.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
Yes, AKA, got some positions vacant.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
Yes, we still have some positions, and Andrew, we have
an executive Officer and Community Grants Officer of positions available.
They close on Monday, the eleventh of August. Positioned descriptions
are up on the website or we can drop into
the counter Ait Council. Also, we're running an initiative where
encouraging people to apply under our employment register as well.

(13:20):
So if you're interested in some seasonal work. We've got
bull season coming up. We've got a whole lot of
different things happening. So employment register's there for people to
put their details on and go to website to find
out exactly what to do.

Speaker 1 (13:35):
What's going on. Yeah, I know, I've been pushing it
over for you guys. And you know many people say, no,
there's no working. That there is work. When you open
your eyes and reach out, that is great.

Speaker 4 (13:45):
Yeah, and we're getting to that time of the year also,
Andrew in spring and summer, and it's just around the
corner as well that we know how our foruner of
flora sorry, how flora grow so much around the West Coast.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
For grass plenty of that to count anything else, gentlemen,
we need to talk about.

Speaker 3 (14:08):
No, I think we've covered some really positive things today
and the activities that councils undertaking. We're working with our
key partners to actually achieve outcomes. You childcare, waterfront, flowers,
you name it. We're in the right space.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
I like that sky run events, so we'll probably keep
on having to gather that every Friday because to let
me people know what is going on around here in
Queenstown on the West Coast.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
Yes, that's right, Andrew.

Speaker 4 (14:34):
And these big events is what we need on the
West Coast because that brings that different clientele to our
community as well.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
It's diversity, it is, it is, which is what we're what.

Speaker 4 (14:46):
Where's a council a few years ago decided that we
need to diversify our economy. That's why the mountain bike
tracks are up there. And you know, there's a lot
of other adventure tourism events that we want to see
in this community.

Speaker 2 (14:59):
Because we had.

Speaker 4 (15:02):
Ten years ago we had Queenstown Destination from New Zealand
here and they said that this is Queenstown, Ta's Maine
is not much different than Queenstown, New Zealand, apart from
during the tourist season. They ten followed the amount of
tourists in the town and what we do.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
So well, let's doal at Queenstown. Let's talk West Coast.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
That's it mate.

Speaker 1 (15:23):
