Speaker 1 (00:06):
On West Coast seven excess his time for mayor on there,
we've got Shane Pitt, the mayor, also the general manager,
Scott Riley, good morning, how are.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
We very well?
Speaker 1 (00:15):
That's good, thanks Andrew. Okay, then Shane, let's get into it.
We've got no listener questions. The Bendigo Bank. It's on
everybody's lips.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
It is made, it is and you know, the Council
continues to stand with our community in their dismay at
the announcement that the Bendigo Bank in Queenstown will be
closing its doors. We've continued discussions regarding the closure with
the bank representatives and politicians and also community members.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
So it is great.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
And you know we've also written to the federal government
with regard to that, the Treasurer and other politicians to
try and get some support around that. Now that the
you know, it looks like the doors will we closed,
but we're continued to fight. We're still now asking that
the even if the closure does prosued, that the at
(01:03):
least they keep the ATM in place.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Just for you know, we've got the Young Forwarding coming
up in October. I mean, we were going to get
the cash.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Exactly mate, and you know that the banker losing that
building till June next year still, so you know, there's
no we can't see a reason why they can't be
leaving the ATM there and then get it getting its
serviced by the guard as they come down to look
after the private one that's at the railway supermarket there, so.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Nice and easy then, yeah, you know, and of course
you had a meeting with Tammy Tyrol last week.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
Yes we did, and that was we're represented by the
community as well on the tenth September, so you know,
Tammy addressed those that were at the meeting, right, and
she's certainly supportive of our actions and yes, she certainly
will be addressing Parliament as well and giving her two
(01:59):
by it's worth with regard to the to the issue
we've got here. But you know, I guess it's residents
can still lobby their state politicians also federal representatives as well.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
The day of action which we've done, we've.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Done, yes, mate, but even even now if they continue
that fight, continue to send the emails and there's also
the petition there which has got over three thousand signatories now,
so you know, and that was brought up at the
meeting with Tammy and she were very surprised about the
numbers given that our population on the whole West coast
(02:35):
is just over four thousand.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
So you know we've got to sport.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
That's right, mate. Yeah, So it's you know, we'll continue
to fight and there is some other things we're looking
at as well with all those go pear shape with
a Benny event. But we're going to continue.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
To that fight and we can't talk about that now, mate.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
That's right, And I guess you know, and it's a
we call out Jeanette Lay and the work she's done
with regard this is well, you've certainly been.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
Always texting me, Yes, get on your janet. Okay. Then
we've got the z In official open which happened on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Yes, andrew circumstances around the z and openings of the
Howard's Park and the gym and those new facilities were exceptional.
We had some fabulous weather and I am incredibly proud
of the way community turned out to use those facilities
on the day. I want to shout out to our
partners that all participated and supported those activities. It was
(03:32):
great to see the line up for the faery floss
and other things for the kids. That was absolutely fabulous
and a shout out to all the organization inside Counsel
and the team members that worked hard to pull that off,
and our contractors. They did a fabulous job in terms
of turning that facility up for the day.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
Now talking about parts, this one in front of us,
what's happening there?
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Okay, Yes, as we look out the window today, the
sun out, we have contractors on site. You will see
the majority of the fencing disappearing very shortly. It will
be available for or parts of it will be available
for the school holidays. We've got some ashvelt to put down,
but as most people would be aware, it's been raining
(04:16):
a little bit lately, so the certain sections of the
park only a small portion of it will be unavailable,
but the majority of the park will be available. So
I'm keen to see you Andrew with a photo on
the Flying Fox.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
Fair enough, I'll do that. Socials always, I want to
know why you've got gum trees there. Now. I've had
a few people text me and ask me why are
the gum trees in the park, especially under the power lines.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
Those particular ones my understanding are the flowering gums and
they don't grow that terribly tall, right, let's hope.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
Just further to the zoo official opening there, Andrew, it
was great to see the turn up of the community.
We had over two hundred people both events there in Zoom,
which is great and a great I mean it's from
the community with regard to both both areas there and
I guess you know, and even from some of those
(05:08):
people using the gym. Outs from outside our community have
said how good the gym is, and yeah, you know,
it's certainly great to see and a great QJO to
the Zoom residence.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
That uses it. Yeah, that's right. Okay. Another one council meeting.
Gosh they come each and every month, don't they.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
They certainly do. Next meetings on Tuesday twenty third next
Tuesday at five pm and questions can be submitted to
myself by EA at West Coast Or Post Office Box
sixty three in Queenstown up till midday on Tuesday the
twenty third September.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
Right, you've heard it all, okay. First, rates installments reminder.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Yes, rates installments are due this Those need to be
paid by the thirtieth of September. If you're paying by
installments that also due by the thirtieth of September, you
can pay those at all our normal agencies or by
bpay z and Straw and Rosebery. If there's any any questions,
(06:11):
do just email us at rates at West Coast dot
TAZ dot gov DoD.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Are you okay? Of course, the West Coast winners that's
involved in with the rates.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Yes, that certainly is. Anybody that's pays their rates in
full by the thirtieth September automatically goes in the draw
for that and those vouchers will be able to be
spent on the West Coast. And there's two thousand and
one thousand and two five hundred vouchers to be spent
on the West Coast, and we're encouraging everybody to participate
(06:41):
in that if they can, and we hope to have
loads of successful winners and benefits to the cafes and
all the circumstances around where those virtues can be used.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
Fantastic unpaid rates auction which is happening next week.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Yes, Unfortunately, the circumstances do roll around where people for
some reasons can't pay their rates. There's a statutory process
that we go through every three years. We sort of
work through that process. And yes, we have an auction
at ten am on the twenty fourth of September at
Council's Chambers in Queenstown. And if anybody's interested in a
(07:19):
property certainly make contact with us. Properties are located in
Roseby Straw and Zine at this time, so we're more
than happy to have any inquiries for that.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
Okay, we've got a position vacant.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
There, Yes, we do. We're seeking a compliance officer to
work in a number of key activities. The successful candidate
will actually undertake a great diversity of work in that
compliance space. A full time rail be based in Queenstown.
Looking for If you're looking for the position description, please
(07:55):
go to our website and the application closes Sunday, the
twenty eighth of September.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Sounds pretty good into the month. Wow, I can't believe it.
We'll take a break now. Well you're back with me.
Are on air. It's eight forty five. We've got Shane
Pitts and we've got Scott Riley. Okay, let's get two
(08:22):
of the Tuller has a fuel station there?
Speaker 3 (08:24):
Yes, mate, it's great, great see that. Yeah, and Paul
Tuller is now open officially open. That's a huge milestone
for locals and travelers who can access now access twenty
four to seven fuel there at Tuller. They offer unleaded petrol,
amplifier ninety eight diesel and amplified premium diesel as well
(08:44):
as ad Blue. So they also are participating RSU two
our member of Warden as well, so people can get
the sixth cents off there if they're an RASCU team member.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
So it all adds up, doesn't it.
Speaker 3 (08:58):
And they also I've got water on site for that
added convenience too, So yeah, it is great and it's
great investment and infrastructure for our community in the West Coast.
And believe Bonnie Energy will be holding an official opening
very shortly with regard to that sounds, but it is
great to see again we've got a fuel station in time.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
Do we need a coffee shop as well?
Speaker 3 (09:22):
Well?
Speaker 2 (09:22):
In terms of the new opportunity, yep, there's certainly looking
for the local businesses to step up and be in that.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
Space because always when you have a break, you think
put some fuel in it, like a cup of coffee
or a drink and there's nothing there well breaks the journey.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
And there's certainly opportunities there in the village at Taller
and I encourage everybody to patronize those enterprises.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
It sounds great Unconfording Festival which is kicking off on
the sixteenth of October. We're all talking about it.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
Yeah, so the Unconformed recently host of the Moonland Retreat
in Queenstown. But you know it's a team of writers
and creative from West Coast and around austral together through
a program, workshop and site and visiting the region. But
you know, it's all about the Unconformity Festival coming up
on the sixteenth of October. There, Andrew and everyone's looking
(10:13):
forward to it.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
I'm looking forward to it as well. I've been speaking
to Lauren this morning and she's recruiting for people to
come and help being a volunteer or a casual position
because it's not just putting it on. You need people
to find out and tell people where to.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Go exactly right mate, I guess you know if you're
heading the Coeens down for the festival to explore the
West Coast during the weekend, there will be a free
regional bus service offered for around the West Coast.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
So that which is great to see that she is
not to come.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
Oh exactly mate. And we've called for that for a
number of years now and a number of festivals to
get that bus so we can get all the West
Coasters that opportunity to attend the Unconformity Festival. So you know,
we've got people that will be staying in Taller Rose, Brazil,
Strawn and will be traveling for the Northwest Coast on
(11:02):
the weekend or on that day one day over the weekend.
And we're talking to the CEO of Creative Coast to
Friday yesterday and he thinks he's going to bring the
family down, which is great to see and that's you know,
that sounds good as we want to see and if
we can get the patriarchs like we did at last
well the festival before the last one, because the last
one we had to postpone.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
But you know it's great, bigger and better. Okay, we've
got another an event coming up next year. He may
diverge sky Run.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
Yes then sky Run was launched last into last week.
Circumstances around that will be a fabulous event. This is
an inaugural event probably for people who can run a
little bit faster than I can, Andrew and look at
me as part of that process. It's in May next
year and it will be a number of events over
(11:54):
several days, so there'll be shorter runs. There's an epic
twenty five and fifty k sky run which is straight
up over the top of mounta Lyle and Mount Old
and then there's a set of smaller ones that sort
of essentially around town. But those longer runs will actually
use one hundred and twenty year old comstock rail formation
(12:17):
and there will be future opportunities to use those assets
as they developed them and access priority entries close on
I think it's eleven am Thursday, thirteentth and November, and
then there's public entries from eleven am Friday, the fourteenth
of November.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
What I like about this it's not just local. We're
getting the internationals coming in here as well, so we're
a stage to the rest of the world exactly mate.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
And that's one thing that when we were at the
opening there, well, the launch last Friday, the amount of
people community members that turned up was really great and
they had a bit of a trial run, just a
small one of the short runs. They've done that for
fifteen minute run out of the railway station and they're
hoping to have the hub there at the end of
(13:06):
the railway station lawns there. So because they're anticipating about
six hundred people for that weekend in May. So yeah, no,
it's great, and this will be an ongoing event year
after year.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
And of course we've got all these trails on the
mountain that were done one years ago and they sat there.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
Yeah, and I guess you know. The other thing is
these trails will be open all year round, so it
will only be that one week end the year that
the sky run will be there using the trails, but
other people can use them throughout the year as well.
Speaker 1 (13:39):
And well, we certainly I suppose counselor that they name
more we're going these trials.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
Yeah, the tracks. The circumstances around that is that you'll
see more of that as it comes out over the
next few weeks and months. The other interesting component that
people may be interested in is the partnership with the
Wilderness Railway and the runners racing the trace back trained
back from down at Lichford.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
Wow, that's a great event and you know, talking to
you in there at the launch. He's certainly looking forward
to that and it's something different that no other runners
can do around.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
Well, I believe. I think Katherine who run Diverged sky
Run here does the one that pinnacled down at Mount Wellington,
and they thought well, let's bring it to the West Coast.
And I think with that launch that they did last
Friday really showed that people want to do this.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
They do mate, yes, and even we had some locals
there that were a little bit worried about the parking
around there their streets. Well we've squashed them issue or
the concerns that them residents have because you know, all
the runners will be diverging from the railway station, so
that's where they'll be parking. And then for those times
(14:54):
during the year when other people may be using the
tracks or we will put some signage in place to
divert them people away from the residential area. So it's
good to see that our community are thinking about these
things and being interested in how what is happening around
our community. So a lot of these trails also are
(15:15):
part of our trial program that we put in place,
and the report that we had done about all the
walking trails around the West Coast, especially around Queenstown. So
are we utilizing some of them trails that were part
of that report as well. So you know, these things
that we do in the background, we do for reason
(15:37):
and that is why you know we've got something like
this was just going to be international.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
Scott's waiting to talk.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
The circumstances are that we all need to get into training,
so you know we've got intill may Well.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
I saw you the other to day with an umbrella
walking around the streets. Is that you were training?
Speaker 2 (15:54):
Yeah, so I was out and about. I was taking
a new workplace health and safety officer around, just pointing
out if you think, thanks, we come over and had
a look at the park. We're keeping a close eye
on that. So yeah, we're out and about and you'll
see me about in the street.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
It's good. Really, the park's going to be open for
the young conformity. That's what I like as well, so
somewhere to sit, something to do.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
Yeah, and alongside that once the Queenstown Park will also
be opening in the Strong Mighty Purpose Center down there
at Strawn as well at the same time.
Speaker 1 (16:23):
So that sounds great. Anything else for counsel, No, I'm good, well, good,
Thank you then, Shane, we'll see you next week and
we'll see you the week after.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
Scott sounds great of course.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
