Speaker 1 (00:03):
Good morning Shane Pitt, the mayor on the air, and
to our GM of the West Coast Council, Scott Riley,
Good morning, Andrew. I'm well you've got to be closer
that Michael, if you might want to go to Scott's Mike, Yeah,
you're echoing. Okay, let's getting together and that's it, slight brothers. Anyway,
we've got some questions from the listeners. One here is

(00:26):
why can't owners of their shacks at Macquarie Heads transfer
their shack into a family member or family or friend's
name when they leave or the owner passes away. It
seems ridiculous that the bloc has to have the shack dismantled,
vacated then put up again for LAE when rates can
still be paid continually and easily transsision of owners can

(00:46):
take place.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Thank you, Andrew. This is a pretty good question, and
for day twenty five of my tenure here, what I'd
like to do is take that one notis and get
back to our listener in relation to what that might
look like in the future. I think there's a logical
sense to the question, and I think a lot of
listeners will be interested if we could change that pathway.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Right, Okay, the next question from a listener, can Council
please advise the issue of the Queenstown Park renovations to
cause the current stock work situation and are expected to
be major lays to it. Now, that's the park in
front of here at seven excess.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
Yeah, okay, well it's totally falls park, Andrew, that's the
name of the park and there's no stop work that
we know of on that park. It is the contractors
are on a rostered basis, so they work on and
a week off, right, and it is a contract that
they've got.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
So it's not counsels, their contractors.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
Their contractors, mate. Yes, and I guess you know with
the middle of autumn was the due date for completion
on that project, so we'll make sure that the contractors
are held accountable to make sure that it is finished
completed by that time frame. So we're probably looking at
about another month and it should be completed. But yeah, no,

(02:08):
and I guess you look at this not only the
queen Stand one. They were also doing the Zoom one
as well, so I think that's that's the same situation,
so they're probably working between both as well.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
So right, yeah, Well, let's talk about the office closure.
It won't be open on Monday because it's an eight
hour day.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
That is correct public holiday this Monday, circumstances are that
will be closed and we wish everybody the best for
the public holiday.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
Right, Okay, we'll go to Health and well Being strategy.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
Yeah, so, Andrew, we'd like to thank everyone who provided
some feedback for the draft Health and well Being strategy.
You know, we wish to acknowledge the time and effort
that people have put into this making some suggestions and
feedback for that. So it's great. It is something which
will have out very shortly. We're hoping it'll be adopted

(02:57):
March this year. So we stuff have a little bit
of work to do now to get a report to
counsel and we hopefully will be making a decision at
the March meeting.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
Right. Fly to health, what is all that about?

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Okay, this is a fabulous new opportunity that's coming to
the West Coast, Andrew. Fly to health is basically a
medical service that flies into a location, brings consistent practitioners
and offers a number of different services. So there will
be fliers out in community. There's a lot of opportunities

(03:32):
for people, particularly people that are registered with the NDIS.
We're talking occupational health, we're talking per dietary. A lot
of the services we can't actually get at the moment.
They're bringing a service they're looking to start on the
twenty fourth of March, so we're saying to people you
can serve, refer, you can talk to your GP. The

(03:54):
service is going to be available for that date, but
you've got to book your appointments asap.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Fantastic, I know we're doing that from the Strong Achamedical
Center down at Strawn Andrew and people want to There
is a transport available too to get people down there
through CTST if they're registered with them, and also the
Roseberry Community Health Center have got transport available to get

(04:20):
people to Strong.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
People Forward. Yeah, yeah, Okay, we've got some unsightly properties.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
The ever perennial challenge of overgrown allotments in Day twenty five,
Like I said a bit earlier, I'd like to actually
take that one on notice and I'll be back to community.
In terms of what we need to prepare, it was
obvious we were a little bit underdone with our preparation
for the fire season this year, so I'm looking to

(04:46):
sort of take some steps and be proactive before the
next fire season. We have lodge and expression of interest
out of cycle around the fuel reduction grant program yep.
So we're looking to actually be more given that space
and I'll certainly be back to community on that.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
See talking about the grasses, the weeds around the perimeters.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
And also those in town too, Andrew, because there's a
lot of our properties on the West Coast are owned
by Mainlanders that you don't spend any time on the
West Coast and these property do get to a stage
where they're unsightly and then probably knowing in a situation
where they can be obeyed because of the hybrid. As

(05:28):
Scott said, we're looking at all that you see what
we can do, and you know it's something which is
depressing when you go around all our towns on the
West Coast and see some of these properties and we're
trying to work through that. And as Scott's mentioned, he's
got some great plans in place into the future that
he's trying to work on. And you know it's something
which every year this happens at this time of the year.

(05:50):
So we've Scott now on board he's got some different
ideas that might be able to and bringing that to
a head in the future. Great.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Okay, Now the Strong Waterfront Precinct redevelopment project, what's the
update there.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
Okay. In terms of the Strong Waterfront, engagement with heritage
task is continuing. We've now got a heritage listing on
the Reflections exhibition, which is a great initiative. That in
itself adds a little bit complexity, which means that we're
going to be in some in depth consultation with a
number of key stakeholers. I've had some feedback from some

(06:28):
so far.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
The other component to the Strong Waterfront is that there
will be some test piling commencing shortly, which means that
we're going to see a fabulous piece of kit. There
will be something really big come to the waterfront. Okay,
that in itself will generate some traffic challenges, but we'll
manage all that. People will see that big piece of

(06:51):
equipment come. The other component that we're working on at
the moment is that the new concrete slab has been
poured for the toilet block which is near Morris and Sawmill.
That one's actually been done and the footings for the
new shelter have been poured and they're doing a bit
of work on the waterfront in preparation for that piling ring.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
Now with the weather we've had, it's great time to
just pour concrete, isn't it. That's great, that's right.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
Yeah. And then what mentioned about the piling machine, Well
that's for the boardwalk, which is going to look spectacular
once it's up and up and running for those people
who have toured out of the West Coast and have
been up to when you'd to see their boardwalk and
what fab it is a what it's done to when
you'd you know, it's just brought when you'd to the

(07:37):
to the next stage.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
Everything together, Gutridge Park, the whole, the whole bit.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
It does, mate, and it's you know, that's what we
want to see down at Strawn and that's the vision
for Strawn, that we can bring it all closer together
and a space for locals and tourists to enjoying it.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Okay, guys, we're going to take a break. Yes, good

(08:19):
morning too. At forty three. Of course there on the
air at Shane Pitton, we've got the general manager of
the West Coast Council Scott Riley, welcome back ship that
never was.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Yes, there could be questions out there in community around
is the ship that never was continuing? Yes, the waterfront
project is making way and making sure that that vital
community event continues and will be uninterrupted during the construction process.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
Right. That sounds great, especially long weekend.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
That's right. That's right, mate, And that's one thing that
we made sure right from the start that that but
show was going to continue right through the construction period.
And I guess you know, if people would want any
more information on the project, they can. We have got
concept plans and the background at the council on the
council website. So jump on board and have a look
at the plans for that.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
Right, Okay, let's talk about dog got micro chipping?

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Yes, we're Andrew. We're seeing a number of animals that
are straying that don't have microchips. That makes it very
awkward for us to identify a person's ownership yep, and
more importantly return the animal to you.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
Now, people think, because they've got to get microchip, it's
money for the council, and you know, and it's not that.
It's what you said if the dog straying, someone picks
them up, they take them the council, then they go
back to their owners.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
That's correct, and they don't become an impounded animal and
then have the potential of being lost in the system.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
And I guess the other thing with that too, Andrew,
to get an animal out of the pound is expensive,
so it's quite a bit of money cheaper to get
the micro chip in the first place.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
And of course if you don't microchip your bet there
will be a fine. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Let's talk about
the pension concessionary mission on the opposers in the rates. Yeah,
let's have a check about that.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
Yeah, well, I guess you know every year, mate, we
we promote this that there is a pension concession for
the rates it's applied. The state government does have that
in place, which is great on their behalf to assist
our pensioners. And they're also those on healthcare cards as well,
which are issued by Sindelink of course, but to be

(10:30):
eligible for the mission for the twenty twenty four twenty
five rates, you must also be the owner of the
property and the property must be the principal place of
residence as at the first of July twenty twenty four,
so I think we've got one more installment of rates due,
so if anyone hasn't applied for that, maybe they can
for that last rates.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
That's the fourth rates installment reminder.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
Yes, that's correct. The fourth rates installment is due by
five pm on Friday, the twenty eighth March, and there's
only a couple of weeks away and you can contact
council or accesses through our post office agencies or the
Roseberry District School for that rates pension remission.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
Right, anything else you need to talk about, I don't
think so.

Speaker 3 (11:17):
The weather's not too bad that I make the doggess' there.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
You are going up to the northwest. You're going camping,
Oh well caravaning.

Speaker 3 (11:26):
Yeah, camping is in a few weeks time. We're taking
the Scouts down the Quari Heads for the weekend down
there at the camping Grand So that should be good
for the for the girls and boys. But yeah, it's
one thing if any young kids out there are interested.
Scouts is still going in Queenstown. Well, we're open for
the our west coast, so we've got some zooon girls

(11:46):
and guys there as well. So yeah know, it's it's
that time of the year for us.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
Good on you, good on you. And of course, as
we always say, is there anything that anybody wants to
know and get into the math. They can do that
nice and easy at a QUI studio, at a r
N dot com dot au or seven excess dot com
dot au. If not, give me a call, I'll take
all the details. Six four seven number one, seven number
one guys, See you next week. Thanks Andrew, fantastic
