Speaker 1 (00:01):
Now on seven Excess, it's time to talk all things
wild West with Shane Pitt, Mayor of the West Coast.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Wild Oh yes, it's time now to talk to Mia
on air Shape Pit.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
Good morning, Yeah, good morning Andrew. How are you?
Speaker 2 (00:16):
I'll see what fear some night last night?
Speaker 3 (00:18):
Yes, mate, it's been a fearsome night for the last
few nights now. And yes, bit of rain last night.
I hopefully it's assisting there if it's over there in
Zoon in that area.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Yeah, we had the Rosebary Festival start last night to
pull out.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Yes mate, yes, no, they've put that postpone that for
the moment. I guess they'll re evaluate that today once
things have settled down and see how things are over
there and that part of the woods. But yeah, no,
it's it's not good at the moment around the West Coast.
And you know we've seen the fires have certainly right
(00:55):
on the doorstep now inside Zoon now as well.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
So it's it's scary.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
It is scary.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Yes, okay, you walk down to general manager Scott Riley,
new manager.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Yeah, so he joined us last week mate, and yeah,
I was good good to have him on board. And
certainly he's stepped into the role quite well and the
hit the ground running and certainly has got a fair
bit on his play at the moment with the fires happening,
and you know, the Emergency Management Committee and the our
(01:27):
coordinator and Deperney coordinator has certainly been active and out
there and about. And we've to set up the new
evacuation center in Queenstown at the basketball stadium, Mates, so
they've moved it from Zoo given the threat that's over
there at Zoono at the moment.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Yeah, Okay to the listeners questions, we had one from
last week.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Do you want to go to that?
Speaker 3 (01:52):
Yes, we can do, mate, So just a bit of
a feedback on Bryant's questions from last from last week.
So one was about lowering the green waste timber and
iron bins at the transfer station. So Scott went down
and had a look at that. And there is a
safety issue, well, there is a safety issue of residents
(02:13):
falling into the bin if they are lowered any lower
than what they are. There's a few options that Scott
is looking into, including the re design of the bin.
So he'll update Listeners as time progresses with that. As
he looks into it. Further and with regards to the
future roadworks planned for Prangley Street, well, there is nothing
(02:34):
in the pipeline at the moment, you know. That's I
guess that's something which the residents down there and straw
and if there needs to be some work done, put
it into the annual plan.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
And we can get ready.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
Yeah, we can get it into the plan and for
future works in that area.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
It sounds good. Well, we've got no less of questions
this week, which is good. I suppose it.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
Is good at think, So I guess you know, people
over there in Zoo have got more things on their
mind as well, and I guess other people around the
West coast have got there. The doors open for people
from Zen as well. So you know, we've had an
influx of people from zo coming to Queenstown last night,
and they were just good because they've listened to the
(03:20):
officials over there and moved out of Zene. And it
is hard for them, of course, but they're better off
being safe over here at the moment.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
It is.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
It is, yes, and hopefully that bit of rain that
we had last night will assist over there.
Speaker 2 (03:37):
I hope.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
So you know, I was so glad when I wake
up this morning, the lights wept, Yeah, and the sky's
back to normal.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Okay, some emergency information now, Yeah, so I mentioned.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
The earlier about the basketball stadium being now the evacuation center,
So that's on the esplanade and most locals would know
where that is, but just in case, there's some others
out there that aren't familiar. So it's standing there on
the esplanade and the team. We've got that open and
working well at the moment, so hopefully all keeps going
(04:11):
well there. And just a reminder of people to use
the TAZ alert because that's that is the source of
the truth in the world.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
It's updating every every hour.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Yes and yeah, so that's they certainly are keeping that
updated as well, and it's it's good to see. And
I guess we encourage people to download that onto their phone,
the app onto their phone, so it's readily available for
them to.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
Alerts if anything happens around your area.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
It does.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Yes, yeah, Okay, let's have a look at the Health
and World Being strategy for twenty thirty.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
Yeah, so that strategy is the first one for Counsel,
which will guide the team over the next five years
with regard to health and well being in our in
our community. So it's an opportunity ay for the community
to assist and put some ideas forward for the strategy.
(05:07):
So we're hoping that people, you know, we'll give some
feedback prior to five pm Monday, the twenty fourth of February,
so not long long ago.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
Yeah, we're going to take a break, Shane, then come
back mate, No worries.
