Speaker 1 (00:01):
Keeping you in touch with your community.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
We're talking with the mayor of the West Coast Shame
Pit on West Coast seven excess. I guess welcome back
to the mayor on the air. It is Shame Pit
back again, Shae.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Yes, mate, it still is. So let's keep moving, Okay.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
The Annual Plan for the community input for this year.
What's happening there?

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Yeah, So this is an important document for counsel. Guid's
the work of the council team over the financial view
and sets our resource allocation for council to provide projects
and priorities. So we want to hear from the community
some of their ideas, some of the things they want
to see done around our community, and then we can
get them into the plan and make sure that you know,

(00:45):
the work at least is in our eyes, so we
know that it's.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Out there, be realistic.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Yeah, and that's things that I may not get into
this annual plan, but at least you know it'll get
into one in the future as well. So of course
we want to make sure we get those priorities that
our community want this year, but if the money's not there,
we'll make sure that we get it into future plans
as well, and it may mean that, you know, things

(01:11):
might take a little time to do. We might have
to do part this year in part the following financial
At least we've got it in there and we understand
what the community wants.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
So how did they do that?

Speaker 3 (01:23):
So they can return the survey. There's a survey on
them at community whereas it Community Consultation at West Coast
dot TAZ dot dot au via email there or and
we can also return it via the West Coast Council

(01:44):
Box sixty three, Queenstown. That's prior to five pm Monday
to third of February, So a little bit of time
Andrew with regards to that, but you know it is
something which we rely on the community to get out there.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Well, it's all about the community.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
Is it is?

Speaker 3 (02:00):
And you know we're here quite often throughout the year
where people complain that they want to see something done
with is the opportunity for them people to put their
voice forward.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
And stop bringing and just open your mouth.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
Yeah, and get the information out there to our ears
and eyes so we can get into the plan.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
And get it in by the third of February.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
The Health and Wellbeing Strategy for this year to twenty thirty.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
Yeah, so it's the first time we've put health and
well Being strategy together for counsels.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
So it's.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
It's God's the Council team again over the next five years.
It's the strategy can be found on our website and
also is available at the Council office and also our
agencies in Straw and Roseberry and Zoom. So it's an
important document. We want to make sure that we capture
everything that our community wants with regard to health and

(02:55):
well being.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
You know, we've heard a lot.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
Of times and we've done a lot of work around
this over recent years, Andrew with regard to pushing the
state and federal government to make sure that our health
services are improved. There's things happening in the in the wind,
especially over there at Roseberry with the Health Center over there.

(03:17):
So meet with the Minister of Health recently and now
there's some certainly some good things happening over there which
we'll be on the back of what we want to
do here in Queenstown. And we've seen recently with the
opening of the new emergency area at the West Coast
District Hospital, another age care bed in the li Wing

(03:38):
and also we're able to get some extra funding from
the Fed federal government with regard to some more age
care beds for the ly wing, which will bring allow
our elderly to stay on the West Coast when they
get to an.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Aide, you have to go to the Northwest.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
And yeah, exactly right, mate. And you know we've also
working in partnership with homes Tas as well around what
we can do for support a living and you know
other age kids.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Properties for our age kids.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
It's just up the road here in Cottent Street there's
the odd school there could that be made into an
HPRE facility.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
So that's something we're working with. You know, there is a.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
Local developer or local person has put an idea forward
that we're working with homes Tas around that. We've also
you know, we're putting in for some federal funding with
regard to that. But also we're homes tas are looking
at that also for an idea around some age care.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Because all these buildings that just sit idle, they could
be used for this type of thing.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Exactly right, mate, And that's what we're looking at. That's
why we bought that facility back in the day. That
for that reason that we've seen it. There's something which
we could you know of reuse that building or demolish
it and build some units there.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
But all that's still open.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
We're still working through that and especially no our homestairs
have come on board as well that they believe that
it can be utilized for.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
HQ and it can be achieved units and.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
Also units support a living units and also some there
may be some opportunity there for our professionals.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
As you say, let's keep elderly in the West.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Coast exactly right, mate.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Yeah, Okay, let's talk about roadworks. The western streets of
Espalali and Queenstown have got some major upgrades going on.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
Yeah, so that's intersection upgrades there as part of our
Intersection Upgrade project program for this last financial year. So
that commences on well, it has commenced Wednesday, the fifteenth
of January and it should be scheduled to be completed
mid February. So please if residents can adhere to the

(05:59):
traffic management there and in place during this time, and
if there is any inquiries regarding that, please contact our
Council Operation Department via email on WCC at West Coast
dot TAZ dot gov, DoD AU.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Let's pray to the gods that no rain comes.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
Yeah, well that's right. That'll hold us up a little bit.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
But you know, hopefully we've had a pretty good start
to the year and hopefully it continues.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
But you never know what's around the corner.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
