Speaker 1 (00:06):
Good morning, Shane, and another Fridays come around.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
It has Andrew.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
It has a little bit bleak out there at the moment,
but hopefully the fog will lift and we might get a.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
Half decent day.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
We're looking for the rain though. Oh ah, yes, yes, yes, okay,
here on there we'll questions from last week, let's have
a look at those.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Yeah, so there's a couple that I took on notice
to get some feedback, and one was around the progress
on the main quench down main Street line, marking well
works planned and subject to the contractor's availability and also
coinciding with the actions on other projects.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
This should be happening in and around the areas.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
That work will happen as soon as you know, the
other projects are finished and we can make it one
stop shop.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
I guess you could say.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Sort of things. You put things in priority.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
That's right, mate, Yes, exactly right. And you know we
need to wait to the contractors around here. And he
comes around doing state roads as well, so we make
use of that so that the cost to the rate
payers isn't extra ordinary.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
So yeah, you know, it shouldn't be too far away
for that to happen, right, More questions Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
So we also had one with regard to par Avion
flights that we were coming into Strawn several times a
week and they are temporarily suspended or completely canceled or
still ongoing. So the feedback we got is that flights
with par Avian are able to proceed as normal depending
on the operators needs, depending on how many people they
(01:40):
get to fly to Strawn will depend on whether they
make the flights as excuse me, as the normal depending
on the operator. As I mentioned recent bushfire air activities
which I think I might have mentioned last week, and
Andrew did place a little bit of a restriction on
the air down there at Strawn given that we had
(02:03):
a lot of helicopters on the on the airport utilizing that.
So now that is all back to normal now, so
we should be able to see the return to normal
operations down there at the Strang airport.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Sounds great.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
Yeah. Anymore, that was the two that.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
Okay, office colosures over the easter period.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
Yeah, so as as Easter is almost upon, as Andrew
Friday the eighteenth of April, the council chambers will be
closed and reopening Wednesday, the twenty third of April.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
If you have any.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
Dog related emergencies, please contact the police. And any other
emergencies please call the normal number on six four seven
one four seven hundred and you'll be rediverted to the
on call personnel for that for that issue. And of course,
as we normally say, you know, if it is anything
(03:02):
on the highways or the roads outside our town boundaries,
please call the partner State Growth on thirteen hundred one
three nine double three.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Right. I've got another council meeting coming up.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Yes, So Tuesday, the fifteenth of April is our next meeting.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Of course it's open to the public.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
As we mentioned before all our meetings. If you'd like
to attend, please turn up. And also if you cannot
get to the meeting and you'd like to submit a
question without nators, they can be submitted to the General
Manager up to midday on Tuesday the fifteenth of April.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Okay, positions vacant.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
We've got a couple of there, mate, I think one no,
just the one that this week so municipal employee Queenstown.
So if anyone's interested in giving back to the community
or being part of our Queenstown, it's an ideal opportunity
now for you know, the crews are responsible for maintaining
(04:07):
preserving council assets, roads, storm water transfer station, parks and
gardens and the recreation area.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
So it's it's.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
A crown like a check of all trades.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
It is made, it is and it is a crucial
part of our council service to the community.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
So you know, you're out and about and you.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Know it's certainly is a good opportunity for someone out
there in our community that may be interested interested in
that and that closes five pm Sunday, the thirteenth of
April right now.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
The West Coast Community Transport.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
Yeah, so you know, the West Coast Council knows that
many in our community are disadvantaged when it comes to
accessing transport and it's something which especially between our towns
and also to other communities around Tasmania, it's not always easy.
So there's only we've only got the one bus service
that travels to Bernie and then you know that's only
(05:03):
restricted service as well.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
So I think it depends your appointmental wherever you're going
between those times.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
That's right, mate, You're exactly right, And you know it's
it is difficult to find out what services exist around
our community. There is a few, so as part of
the West Coast Community Plan twenty thirty five, and we're
committed to advocating for safe and reliable public transport and
which connects our local communities to the region as well.
(05:32):
Right and the first step towards this has been to
learn about transport services that are offered and share that
information to the community. So we've set up a West
Coast Transport Options fly to summarize what existing services do
exist at the moment and also to encourage people to
(05:53):
become a volunteer to drive for some of them services
that are out there. So we encourage residents to share
that fly to you to use the transport wherever possible.
You know, we had a two years ago now, we
tried a process around into town transport around our communities.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
It didn't quite get off the ground as well as
what we thought it would have done.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
People didn't use that service the way that we were hoping.
But I guess, you know, that's probably not that there's
any fault of the community. It's probably the it wasn't
publicized as well as what it could have been, and
then people weren't really aware that they could make a
(06:41):
call and have the service pick.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Them up and take them somewhere somewhere.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
It's something which you know, we look at the big cities,
they've got metro services which run continuously throughout the day.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
We'd like to see something like that. So we have.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Approached the government on a few occasions now around that.
And that one hundred thousand doll as that they put
towards that trial was I guess it was an attempt
to try and get the motivation in the community to
try and make see if it was going to be
a success.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
It wasn't quite.
Speaker 3 (07:12):
I don't think it was happening the way we anticipated.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
We were like, we were more.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Hoping that they'd run that service around the West Coast,
a continuous loop where people could jump on and jump
off as they so wished. But we'll see how we go,
and we'll continue to fight that and push for some
sort of service between our communities.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Okay, well take a break and we'll back with there
on air. Yes, we are back with Mare on air.
(08:17):
It's fifteen away from nine, Shane, how are we Yeah,
good mate, good good, let's get into it. West Coast
bushfire updates.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
Yeah, So the regional Emergency Management Committee has today provide
an update for the West Coast complex fires up there
around the Primon Heads area and also Grenville Harbor area.
So it's about one hundred and one hectares we've burnt
out was about a perimeter of sixteen hundred kilometers, so
(08:45):
a fair amount of wilderness up there that was been
affected by this. So it has been downgraded to a
level two on March the fifteenth, and since then it's
been managed by a small team working out drawn.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
So it's still burning, yes.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
Mate, it is, and we'll go for some time with
cruise on the fire grounds. So it's ongoing monitoring of
hot spots and smoke and any escalation will be managed
internally by NRE so that's Parks and Wildlife Northwest, and
they are also doing some rehabilitation work around some of
that area as well, which will happen for several weeks
(09:27):
until we get some I guess some good rain. Now
we haven't had a lot, mate, and I guess we're
all praying for.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
I came here expecting it to be wet, praying for.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
A little bit of ranging and winter this year, so
which no doubt we'll get very shortly but of course
just remind listeners that TAS Alerts has the most up
to date information on around fires and it'd be good
if people downloaded the TAS Alert app onto their smart device.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
Why not? Okay, the Visitor Economy Regional Gathering in Strawn.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
Yes, Tourism TAZ and in partnership we're representative from thh
A and some RTAs will be visiting Strawn for a
combined Visitor Economy update. So this forum is a great
place for people to catch up on the latest and
future tourism items happening and the direction of tourism in Tasmania.
(10:26):
So we're hoping that as many West Coast people can
find the time to attend this event because you know,
it is something which Tourism TAS are bringing to Strawn.
So we'd like to see not just our tourism providers
down there and Straw and in the West Coast, but
also just the our normal residents as well that may
(10:49):
like to know what's happening around the rest of Tasmaniu
when it comes to tourism. So that's on Monday, the
fourteenth of April from five pm to seven pm at
Risby Cave down there in.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Strawn Sounds Great AKA the WI the West by Northwest
Regional Tourism Forum twenty twenty five.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
Yeah. So the annual Regional Tourism Forum is a chance
to come together and gain insights into major projects shaping
our region, explore industry trends and discuss key developments which
are all under this year's theme of Resilience. It's you know,
(11:28):
we're thrilled to announce that the Spirit of Tasmania is
proudly sponsoring this year's keynote. We'll hear from Tourism TAZ,
the Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania Spirit TAZ to find out,
you know, how they're going with the new ships and
what's in store for the future when they do get here.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
And yeah.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
So that's on Tuesday, the twentieth of May at the
Paranapple Center in Devenport from twelve to fifteen pm to
twelve forty five pm.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Hmm, Okay, anything else that we need to know about.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
No, I think that's about it, mate, I think we've
covered most things. Yeah, it's just I guess you know
we've see they're started on the Queenstown Playground a game.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
Mate, are they I like this.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
You've got a fair bit done over there, Zoon.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
So yeah, back into Queenstown now and hopefully they should.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
So when are we actually expecting this to be finished?
Speaker 3 (12:21):
It should be very close, very close, So it shouldn't
be too far away, given that most of the things
they need to do is just around the grass and
et cetera.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
Now most of the.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
The equipment's in place, and yeah we're just a matter
of them final touches.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
Now, right, sounds great. I can then shame that is
mayor on air for today. We'll do it again next Friday.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
Thanks Andrew Okay.
Speaker 1 (12:44):
