wild West with Shane Pitt, Mayor of the West Coast
Wild for Good Morning, Shane Andrew. Good another week has
come around. It can't believe how fast it's going.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
It's going pretty fast, mate, Yeah, sure, and another hectic
week for the West.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Coast, especially here Wednesday morning. When I come through, I
was rattled.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
I couldn't believe it, yes, mate, no, very very lucky.
We were in Queenston and you know as as zoone
seen recently as well and Granville Harbor of course.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
And it can't happen to anybody.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
It can't happen to anyone, mate, Yes, and you know
we've got to highlight ourselves at this time of the year.
It's you know, it's one of them times of the
year that we've got to be very very careful, mindful.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
Yes. So do we know much about the emergency that
took place there on the Wednesday morning?
Speaker 2 (00:54):
No, not a great deal mate, no, but you know,
just fortunately when ever lost any lives or property. But
you know, a big shout out to the Task Fire
volunteers here on the West Coast. They all been together,
all units were here in Queenstown fighting the fire and
(01:16):
done a tremendous job that evening or that early morning
before the bomb helicopter bombers got here, and we're able
to assist with that. But still just the weather. Still
that the type of weather that you never know when
it's when these things could happen, and we need to
be still mindful of that and just go forward.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
Keep looking. Yeah, that's right. Okay, let's go to a
listeners question that came in during the week. Were discouncil
are going to do something about the trail Harbor road
They started in November last year, is supposed to take
a week, didn't very little small section two days, and
I think it's been done since now. The dirt and
gravel road have stockpiled since then. The road is a
(01:58):
terrible state corrugations and nearly threw you off the road
in some polices. If the councils haven't got the means
to do it, why not contract it out.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
I'll take that one on notice, Andrew, Yeah, I do
understand that we did start that, and I'm not sure
why it wasn't completed, But I'll take that one on
notice and get back to that listener next week.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Right now, we're sorry.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Well, if you've got their contact details, we might even
be able to make contact with or through the week
once we find out right.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
Pension concession remission.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Yeah, so applications for the pension and concession rates and
mission for twenty four to twenty five must be submitted
before the thirty first of March twenty twenty five, so
not long now. And of course we cannot accept any
late acceptances on that because it needs something which is
done by the state government. So we need to make
(02:56):
sure that they're in So any rate players we currently
pench concession card or health card which are issued by
sans Leak or even the Department of Veteran Affairs may
be legible for rates for remission, So make sure that
they are the principal place of residence as of the
(03:16):
first of July twenty twenty four. So yeah, that's important
that those people that are able to and they must
own the home and they must own the home. Yes,
but I guess you know, it's one of them things
we talk about it every year, mate, but we've still
got people in our community that are unaware that they
can available this concession. Yeah, so please reach out to
(03:43):
the Office of People even if they want to get
an understanding if they are eligible eligible.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
Yeah, okay, we got to the fourth rates installment reminder.
Speaker 2 (03:53):

JUBI Friday, the twenty eighth of March. You can make
payments online through our website at Australia Post bpay or
at the agencies in straw Zoo and Roseberry or of
course in person at the Council office.

well it's exciting too, Andrew. Additional health services now available
on the West Coast so that we're committed to implementing
the West Coast twenty thirty five Community Plan, which includes
advocating on behalf of the community to ensure health services
meet the needs of the community. And through our Liverpool
(04:39):
Community Advisory Committee and our staff, we've been able to
build this partnership with fly to Health. So that's from
March to twenty fourth not far away, mate, No, So
they're providing fortnightly speech pathology, occupational therapy and p dietary
(05:05):
on the West Coast, so they'll fly into Strawan and
yeah provide them services.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
So really go and reach out.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Yeah, yes that's right mate, it is and Flight to
Health are and end the I registered service. But it
also is available for everyone, so it's just great it
is and they'll be working from the strong A Comedical
Center down there and Straw and so it's exciting and
it's another opportunity for residents on the West Coast to
(05:34):
get to some of these health services that are provided
through the normal stream. So but if also there's also
available some transport assistance for people who need to get
down a Straw that may not have their own transport.
So but you need to make sure you're registered with
