Speaker 1 (00:01):
Keeping you in touch with your community.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
We're talking with the mayor of the West Coast, Shame
ped On, West Coast seven Excess.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
Well that quis shame ped mayor on there.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Good morning again he has things now Andrew. It's yeah,
not too bad. It's a bit smoky out there.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Though, Tea Wi.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
It is very very smoky, yesn't it wasn't too bad.
It wasn't until it got light you could smell that.

Speaker 4 (00:25):
Yeah, I guess the whole West Coast is feeling feeling
it right now.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
So yeah, but as we mentioned earlier, it is time
for people to make sure they're still vigilant.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
This time they keep aware O the Cradle Coast Authority
Rule Land News Strategy Phase one.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
What's it all about?

Speaker 2 (00:44):
Yeah, So the Regional land US Strategy sets out the
high level direction for land use and development in the
Cradle Coast region. So it's not just the West Coast,
it's right across the nine councils of Cradle Coast. It
impacts everything from housing and infrastrut ructure to environment protection.

Speaker 4 (01:03):
And economy growth.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
So, but we need to make sure we get our
input into into this from West Coasters. It's we need
to ring people's input on how we can create vibrant
and Liverpool towns and communities, how we balance growth and
protecting our environment environment and how to manage natural hazards

(01:26):
and prepare for climate change.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
And we've seen things like we did on Wednesday.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Exactly make yes, as we've seen in the last well
it's been over the last month now with the fires
over there at Zoo as well, so you know it
will shape how we live and play for for years
to come. So we need to make sure that we
get out of everything.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
Seems to change every time the year comes around. There's
something different happening.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Yes, mate, Yes, And there is a website that people
can visit. But if people want that website, please contact
the council office.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
And they'll give out that give out and information. Yeah
there is.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
I have got the information here, but it's a little
bit long to read, so it would be easier for people.
I couldn't even read that, no, so but yeah, no,
it is exciting times for the Cradle Coast area and
it you know, we've it's what people want to see
in the future for the West Coast as well, so
you know, we know what we've got now. But we

(02:25):
also need to leave a legacy for those in the
future as well.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
That's right, right, Okay, We've still got some unsightly properties
around the West coast, we.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Have, mate, Yeah, so we have received several complaints about
the unsightly nature of some of the properties, particularly in Zoom,
but also other towns on the on the west coast.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
It's a shame for a minute there when you say
on slightly properties, what'll be talking about? A lot of
people say, look, I can't afford to paint my front
of my house. We're not talking about that, are we.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
No, mate, No, we're not talking about that. We're talking
about long grass.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Weeds, noxious weeds that is, you know, just blackberries, things
like that.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
And you know a lot of old.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
I guess articles, large articles in front yards, et cetera
that may need to be people may not have the
opportunity to be able to do it themselves.

Speaker 4 (03:20):
We may be able to assist in.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Some way, but you know, it's it is something which
we're kind yeah, yeah, And we have got a lot
of complaints about this, and we're working through internal processes
now how we.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
Can still saying the main people are in zem with
these properties that need to be tidied up.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
They're the main people that we're getting complaint from, and
I guess that it was highlighted with the recent fires
over there, and you know, even no doubt the ones
in Queens Down now, you know, we're over numerous years
we've had people complain about the you know, the foliage
around the out of skirts of Queens Down, and we've
advocated with Task Fire and also Parks and Wildlife regarding

(04:04):
that and.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
Many corridors around here as well.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
There is there is and you know, it's people that
have lived here for many years. We'll know that we
used to have fire breaks up in that area where
we had the fires recently and even further up in
the pine gardens there. But we've advocated that they open
these firebreaks back up because we can see that there
is issues, but unfortunately the ears aren't listening at the moment.

(04:34):
Although the fires in zen certainly did spark up a
few interests with state government, so hopefully that will help
us now right around the west coast, because there's not
only Zon and Queens Down.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
It's Rosebury as well that other places.

Speaker 4 (04:47):
Have got some issues, you know with where you look.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
At Taylerance in the middle of.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
Nowhere exactly, and Tayler had the same issues a few
years ago. Now lucky there as well that we never
lost many properties all live So it is one of
them things that we are aware of and we are
working through that with the different agencies of government to
try and mitigate.

Speaker 4 (05:12):
The risks that are involved around our town. So you know, it's.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
From a council perspective though, we're looking at some processes
that we can put in place regarding these vacant lands
around there, or not only vacant, but some of the
properties around our towns, to try and see if we
can come up with some proactive steps to consider before
the next fire season, especially around zone. With the new

(05:41):
general manager believes that he's got some ideas that may
be able to put in place, but we know we've
got to go through the processes and a lot of
it's to do with neutrality as well, so we can't
compete with other agencies, so we're going to make sure
we get everything right. But yeah, certainly some good eyes
is it. And I guess you know the other thing

(06:02):
is will we proactive right through the year and rather
just wait to the fire season. So yeah, so it's
I guess watch this space.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
And of course if people do see things that they
think will maybe Counsel needs to know about, give you
a call.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
Yeah, that's right now. And we've we have got some
different and as I.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Said, we have got some different processes in place now
that you know, even myself I wasn't aware of that.
We've we've been talking with it general management, find different
ways to being able to do things. And you know,
some of these things, it's not just wait for the
fire season. These are things we can do all the
year round, and especially you know during winter when when

(06:45):
the weather is not so good.

Speaker 4 (06:47):
Well, there is ways that we can.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
Look at fixing some of these issues during winter when
we can't get out doing some of the other jobs
that we need to do around our town.

Speaker 4 (06:57):
So it's yeah, we're certainly looking at.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
At it and as I said earlier, we'll certainly be
making a difference in the community when it comes to
mitigating fire risk and on property that's not owned by.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
Counsel, keeping people alive as well.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
That's right mate.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
Yeah, Yeah, okay, Shane, nice to see you this morning.

Speaker 4 (07:19):
No worries, mate, Yes.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
We will see you next week with Riley.

Speaker 4 (07:23):
Yes, mate, yes, and we'll be back next week together.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
And yeah, I guess, just a reminder everyone out there
just to remain vigilant at this time of the year,
and also reminded to use tas alert for a source
of truth information informations. And it was good to hear
you on the radio on Wednesday to Mate, putting out
the warning around around.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
I have said, it was shocked to me where I live.
I came down the road coming to the CBD and
my god, I know what to think.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
Yes, yes, it was mate. It was quite eerie, and
you know, it's we're just lucky this time.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
And the wind was blowing in the in the right
direction to keep it away from the houses, although you know,
it was heading down south and it's great that our
local fires were able to get onto it pretty quickly.
And yeah, and then ably assisted by others.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
Once they got rulled here there was still there was rosebery.
It was just amazing. I didn't hear anything at nighttime.
That's the worst part about it. I get up around
three thirty thought, oh, there's a beautiful moon over there.
I'll go and take a bit. Sure, I'll win in
early Totally different to what I thought, but anyway, it's
we've done a good job.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
Yes they have, Yes, ye get in Shane.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
We'll talk to you next week mate.

Speaker 4 (08:42):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
Okay, if you've.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
