Speaker 1 (00:00):
And joining us once again for another edition of meya
on here this morning on the telephone, it's how miya
Shane Pet, Good morning sir. How's your week been?

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Yeah? Pretty hectic, scur though, and what about yours?

Speaker 1 (00:12):
Yeah, pretty much the same, but it was okay, yeah,
so far, so good. It was nice to see the
sun out in the last couple of days and of
course AFL grand Finally it's going to be absolutely superb tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Yes, it's good of it. Good opportunity for people there
to get out and watch the football.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Against dust off the old barbecue.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Yes, that's it. I'll be at work so hopefully we'll
have maybe we might have a TV going somewhere on
site just to go and check it out occasionally.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
But anyway, you wouldn't be able to have the radio
on down there, would You can just imagine you guys
sitting in the mine there and you're listening to the footy.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Oh no, we can't get radio underground with avenues to
get that down there, and we don't know but.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
All right, okay, well let's get on with that. We
do have a couple of questions for you this week.
Does anyone know what the plan is? For the road
closure at Macquarie Heads moving forward, will it be repaired,
a diversion or just left.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
No. So we are progressing on a plan to reinstate
the safe access to the beach as soon as possible.
But given that still actively eroding down there, we're still
working on a plan to resurrect that road, but working
with Parks and Wildlife with regard to that at the moment,
and hopefully we should have something out to the public

(01:42):
shortly with the plan moving forward. What's going on there
so you know it is we need to make sure
that we get it right because as I mentioned earlier,
there's still roading that road away.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Well, it has been rating a lot obviously, and that
needs to off. Obviously, you need to get a few
sunny days in there so it doesn't actually yeah, you
can actually start doing it again.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Yeah. And the other thing, we need to work out
a plan and how we're going to stabilize that the
against the the heads the yeah, the I guess, the
the harbor, the harbor there, to make sure that we
don't it doesn't continue to into the future, because even

(02:29):
if we do put a bypass road around, and if
it continues to rode we're going to lose that road
as well, exactly stabilize the shores first.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Life and okay, yeah, something shortly excellent, all right now.
Our listeners also asked when the next by annual rubbish
collection is taking place.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Yeah, so we'll be in November, but we will make
a public announcement in late October when the exack dates
will be. So just a bit of a heads up there.
It's in November sometime, but at this stage we'll notify
people at the end of October when that date will be.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
All right now, something that's obviously on everybody's mind down
here at the West Coast at the moment is the
condition of the Murchison Highway. Can you tell us the latest?

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Yeah, no, it is in diabolical condition, Scervo And we
have written to the State Growth in relation to the road.
And we've also our general manager has issued a joint
letter with other local governments councils in our in our
area when the warrata and also circular Head with regard

(03:47):
to the premiere, requesting some urgent action to address the issues.
And yeah, and I guess the State Growth has continued
to make short term repairs with a focus on a
long term in the winter months. But you know it's
saying that also scurbo yesterday, there's a few vehicles that
were damaged with yeah, the bugle back. I've been on

(04:14):
the phone again to State Grace and asked if they
can get something action as soon as possible. I know
they've been there and put some signs up, but the
podole was that big now that you just about take
the whole road up and there.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Yeah, that's right, it's probably the word yeah, go on. Sorry.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
And there's been a few vehicles damage, yes, yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
I keep you here about your damage just about every day. Actually,
you almost have to go to a complete stop before
you go over it. It's that bad.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Yes, yes, I know they've put a forty K sign
up there, but you know it's even needs to be
slower than that. And we have had feedback from the
premiere with a letter that was sent and he's asked
he's State Roads Department or State Growth for review on
the road construction, given that a lot of these roads
that we're seeing at the moment is a lot to

(05:07):
do with new constructions. And there was a report on
the compound that they were using to mitigate the icy
conditions recently may have affected the Ashfeld as well, so
that's something they're looking at also. But on the back

(05:29):
of that, mate, we also encourage people to report any
issues that they present the real or potential risk to
road users to State Growth on the thirteen hundred and
one three nine nine double three number and then you
select menu item too. And you know, and it wouldn't
be people that do have had damage done mention that

(05:54):
to the State Growth as well when you're on the
phone to them, because I'm sure that there may be
I'm not absolutely aware of it, but there could be
opportunity for people to make a claim. Mate, un let's
put State Growth know about it. They probably won't do
anything about it, apart from trying to fix the potter
of course.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
Yeah, and I think it also the more people that
do make claims make probably I don't know if they're
State Growth are taking it as seriously as they should. Well,
this sort of information should make them stand up and
take notice.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Exactly, especially you know, the amount of revenue that comes
out of the West Coast for the whole state economy.
We should be number one, I would have thought, but
it seems to be we've pushed down the list and
we've certainly rote again to them in recent days as well.
And you know, and we have had feedback from the

(06:50):
Premier which is great to see. We are getting that
feedback and we had to feedback from State Growth themselves
as well. So you know, the more people that ring
that number, the more push we've got to get them
action in these things as quickly as possible.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
Absolutely, all right, well we'll move on now. Parking meets
they were meant to go back on, but then you
developed a bit of a fault with them back on
now though.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Yeah they are back on, mate. So parking parking meters
now operational in the off street parking areas and Queensland
and drawn So but where that residence And you.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
Know, this is the Mayor on air with our Mayor
Shane Pitt joining us once again for this Friday morning.
Now you've got health Fest coming up which is pretty exciting.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
I reckon, yes, mate, it is exciting and it's a
celebration of Soenior Weeks, oh sorry, Senior Week, Victoria, Veterans
Health Week, Mental Health Week and you know health Fest
West is a collaboration between the Council, the Study Hub
West Coast UTAs and the Zenie Neighborhood Center. Say, you know,

(07:59):
it's a it's three health screening options, lifestyle ideas, three
wholesome food in the stage with kerenote speakers doing presentation
talking about the future direction of healthcare in the West Coast.
So exciting event, mate, And that's to be held on Saturday,
the nineteenth of October from ten am to three pm

(08:21):
at Mountain High School Stadium in Queenstown. And you know
the Lions Club will be down there, I think.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
Yep, cooking some seven patties.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
Yeah. So it's a good event. And were fortunate to
be at the last one that was held at the
RSL Club in Queenstown then a couple of years ago.
So yeah, you know, it's a great event and I
hope to see as many residents there as possible.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
All I just want to touch on Headley Falls Park.
On Thursday morning they started putting the fence around for
the reconstruction, so that seems to be on its way.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
Yeah, it's an exciting time Scurvo, and it's taken a
little while to come about, but it's underway and hopefully
the weather's coming. All starts becoming a lock hon on
what it has been in the past few months, so
they can get onto that and get it completed as
quickly as possible. And I believe the toilets will be

(09:19):
still open while the constructions are ongoing, which is a
bonus there for residents and also tourists.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Absolutely so anybody that gets asked by tourists, we are
the toilets around here. You can still say that they're
at around the corner at Headley Falls Park all right.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
Now.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
The West Coast Spirit Awards, yeah, so.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Our West Coast twenty twenty four West Coast Spirit Awards
applications are open now sorry, and they close five pm
Friday to twenty second of November. So if anyone out
there wants to nominate a person or organization or an
event that they've contributed to the West Coast community for

(10:04):
the year that was, please contact Community Consultation at West
Coast dot tas dot com dot au will drop into
the council office and pick up an application form. So
in the past we've had some certainly some good nominations
SCERVO and it is something which we like to appreciate

(10:25):
the efforts of our local volunteers and organizations here on
the West Coast.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
So absolutely all right. You've got a new projects survey
out for CCTV and it's for people to have their
say for this West Coast Community Safety CCTV Projects survey.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
Yeah, so that closes Friday, the fourth of October, and
it's a regional towns community safety project which is funded
by the state government to make our Tasmanian regional town safer.
So you know, we have got a few cameras situated
around Instown, CBD, but these will be I guess ongoing

(11:05):
from them with the ones there at the moment probably
aren't to the satisfactions that require nowadays, so this will
be certainly an upgrade there. But also we'll be moving
into some of the other communities on the West Coast
as well, so you know this will provide some protection
for our for our residents and also our tourists. So

(11:27):
you know, it is opportunity there for for our town
has become safer.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
Communities, absolutely all right. Now, of course we've got a
removal of abatement nuisance expression of interest still outs.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
Yeah, so expressions of interests closed Friday the eleventh of
October and need to be addressed addressed to the Manager
of Planning and Compliance. So this is a good opportunity
for anyone out there that's got an ABN and the
appropriate insurances that that are in business might want to, yeah,
go into removal of vegetation and fire hazard abatements in

(12:05):
our community. So it's that time of the year or
getting close to that time of the year's survey, so
we need to make sure that we're on the ball
and able to remove these fire risks before we have
our fire season arrives here on the West Coast.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
And finally we'll wrap it up with your two positions
vacant currently out.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
Yes, mate, So there's a growth and change position in
a team member in the Growth and Change department that
closes five pm Monday, the thirtieth of September, and if
anyone's after more information on that position, that can be
found on our website. And also we've got a position

(12:47):
vacant as coordinator of Operations which closes Monday, the seventh
of October, So if anyone's also wants some information on
that position, that can also be found on the website.
So yeah, great opportunities there for locals or you know,
people touring around that may may feel that they want

(13:08):
to move to the West Coast and make this their own,
so great opportunities go.

Speaker 1 (13:13):
Absolutely all right, well that's it for this week. Thank
you for your time, Mayor Shane Pitt. Who are you
going for in the Grand Final? By the way, I think.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
I'll have to go for Brisbane the underdogs.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
You grew a man. I'm doing that as well. And
because of course we have a Queenstown person in the
coaching Chris Fagan, so I think we have to go
for them.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
Yeah, ex Queenstown. So no, it's great to see that
Queenstown is going to be represented, even sometime since he's
left Queenstown. But at least you know, we've got a
bit of a following there, that's for sure.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
And there's actually a field umpire that is unplied with
a former Queenstown resident, Nick Foote is one of the
field empires on Saturday at Tasmanian Umpires. That's really good
as well. Anyway, trust to come up with that. All right, Well,
thank you much once again, Thank you very much, Samir,
Shane Pitt. You have a good weekend and we'll talk
to you next week.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (14:09):
No worries at all
