Speaker 1 (00:00):
And it's time now for this week's edition of the
Mayor on Air. And joining us on the telephone this
week is our Mayor, Shane Pitt.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Good morning, sir.
Speaker 3 (00:07):
How are you good morning, scervo. How things mate?
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Yeah, not too bad.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
Still getting over a cold that I've had for the
last week. I think it's going round.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
Yes, it has been going around and unfortunately there's a
lot of people on the West Coast that have had
it or still.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Got it exactly yep.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
Well at the moment, I just feel like I've got
a swallen throat and my voice keeps going. I mean,
why is it like my voicebox gets attacked?
Speaker 2 (00:33):
I mean that's not good for me on air? Is
it exactly right? Well?
Speaker 1 (00:37):
All right, Well we've got no questions in this week,
so we'll go straight into some highlights for the West
Coast Council this week. It's an expression of interest again
for removal of abasement abatement nuisance.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Yeah, so we getting close to that farest period of
the year SCUVO for twenty four we're inviting expressions of
interest for the provision of services for the removal of
fire risks. So it's important around our towns that we
do look after our communities and there is unfortunately, there
(01:14):
is some properties out there that do become a risk
during the fire season, so we need to make sure
that you know, these areas are abated and cleaned up.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Absolutely, and we've had again so far relatively dry winter,
so you know it's going to make summer a little
bit more. Yeah, I think to worry about so to speak, yes.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
And exactly right, and them expressions of interest close on Friday,
eleventh of October, so a little bit of time now,
but be good to see some local contractors out there
that might like to put their name forward, and even
you know if it's someone wants to start up a
new business. So it's an opportunity there to start a
(02:00):
business in mowing and slashing around our communities.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Absolutely, so get in touch with counsel if you're interested.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
All right.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
A reminder about free parking at the moment Minus siding
and Strong Esplanade.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
Yeah, so up to the thirty first of August, off
street parking. We'll be free in Queenstown car Park at
the minor siding there and also the Strong car park
at the Esplanade which is adjacent to the slipway down there,
so the voucher machines will we turn off during that period,
so hopefully we can entice some our tourists that have
(02:34):
come to the area this time of the year to
stay a bit longer in our communities. Also note that
council will still continue to patrol and enforce the on
street parking while that's happening as well, so just to
make sure people aren't parking them extended periods of time
in our main business business district areas.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
Yeah, absolutely, all right. Well, you've got the West Coast
Community Plan Review on.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Yeah, we had a fairly discussion on this last week around.
We've engaged the ra Planning an Environment to work with
the community to undertake our next ten year plan. It
was a great success back in twenty fifteen and we
want to make sure that this next ten year plan
goes just as well. So you know, we'd like to
(03:23):
invite residents out to these forums and community workshops which
we'll be coming out shortly dates, so look forward to
seeing them dates and meeting getting out of the community.
You meet with our residents to get to hear from
them what they'd like to see in the next ten years.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Okay, all right, that sounds quite promising. Yeah, I just
love to hear from You'd obviously love to hear from residence.
So make sure you're ontake council if you have some ideas.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
All right.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Well, they've also got a policy update on for financial
and in.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Yes, so we're at the last council meeting. We've reviewed
the Financial Ink Time policy policy and that was adopted
at the last meeting in July. So there has been
some revision with regard to that and the policy and
a revised application form can be found on the website.
But if there is some changes that have come into
(04:22):
effect there, and if any personal or organization that wishes
to apply for the financial in kind, they can talk
to our Grief and Change Team for assistance with regard
to that and also learn more about the updated policy.
So you know, it is something which we've certainly looked
(04:44):
at very closely over the last few months and something
which Council has certainly viewed that we need to make
some cost savings, which we've this is one way that
we can see is a assisting our community is also
so it's not as if we're taking it away completely scurvo,
(05:06):
but we you know, we had to make some changes
with regard to that, so yeah, it's not the same
as the policy used to be, so by all means them.
Organizations that like to apply for that in kind or
financial policy, please contact our Grate and Change team for
(05:28):
an update on that.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
Okay, And a reminder about dog registrations.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Yeah, so twenty twenty four dog registration renewals and now
have now been issued. If your details have changed since
the initial registration, please contact the council to make sure
that you do get your renewal. And please, we don't
want to see any love pets out there get picked
(05:55):
up by the by our compliance officers and then we
don't know where where they belong. Please make sure we
get them dogs registered.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
And also reminded too, I have been seeing a lot
of things on posts on social media about dogs being
found in various locations around the West Coast. Reminded that
it is important that people secure the era backyard so
the dogs don't get out because they could copy.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Fine, Oh exactly right, yeah, and I think the worst
part of that is losing that beloved pet as well.
So you know, if we can keep them in our
own properties would be great as well. So you know,
it's a lot there for everyone to think about, especially
when it comes to the dog renewals.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Yep, all right, now Straw and waterfront up the tender
reminder about that.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
Yeah, So it's exciting times for down there at Strawn
on the waterfront. So we tenders are out to redevelop
that waterfront. So we've got the all the the engineering
back from that and the tender documents are available now
if anyone's interested. So submission must be received by Friday,
(07:10):
the ninth of August though, so it's not not far
off now, a a week away scurvey. So hopefully we
can make this area something that the West Coast can
be proud of and help out the strong community down
there to make this place something out of this world.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
So it's great, absolutely, all right. Finally, your position's vacant.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
Yeah, so we've got a Manager of Infrastructure Operations position
vacant and also that closes on Friday, the ninth of
August also, and if anyone's interested in the position, more
information can be found on the website at ww dot
W dot West Coast dot TAS dot dot gov dot AU.
(07:57):

Yeah, no, thanks Grev, And I guess just to reinterate
what you're saying there about the listeners question is a
fair bit of Facebook rant going on there at the moment,
and you know some of these people want to put
a question on air. Well you know, we may be
able to answer it, or if not, we'll take it
on notice and feedback some information the following week. So
(09:00):
totally agree with you there, mate.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
Yeah, well that's what it's all about, really.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
It is it is, and it's good to see that
you know the local radio station is supporting us for
now to get out to the community and ask the
residents if they've got questions. So no, it's great and
you don't see that very often in a lot of
other communities where the radio station allows the council to
(09:23):
have a bit of a time time slot for the
community to ask questions, will feedback information absolutely.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
All right mate, Well, thank you once again and you
have a good weekend. We'll catch up with you next week.
