Mayor on Air. I've got the Mayor, Shane Pitt joining
me on the telephone today. Here he is, Good morning, sir, how.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Are you hey?

Speaker 3 (00:09):
Good morning? How things mate?

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Pretty good? I haven't slipped over this week new Yeah, yeah, no,
I know.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
I see where the ice has come back again in
my front porch, but just sticking clear of it. I've
got in a brain not to walk in that area.
So dear touch.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Wood, she's been a frosty oneers It.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Certainly has been, yes, but nice couple of days at least.
Yeah once again. All right, well let's get into today's schedule.
Now we've got no listener questions from either end as
far as I'm aware, So let's go into other council information.
And of course, charl Harbor not that long ago, had
a meet and greek with the new general manager.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Now this coming up soon. It's Granville Harbor's turn.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
It is, and a great opportunity for the reason and
standing in Granville Harbor to meet the new general manager.
Kira is quite quite open to get out around the community,
so it's great to see that. She's a opportunity now
for those people at Grenville Harbor to meet her on Thursday,
the twenty fifth of July from two pm to three

(01:20):
point thirty pm at the venue will be at eight
sixty eight Granville Harbor Road, Greenville Harbor. So all those
people out there that Granville Harbor wish to meet the
new general manager.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Is the opportunity fantastic.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
I really here, really great so that she's getting agut
about and having a chat with the locals. I think
she's really embracing the local West Coast.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
Certainly is Scobough. And it's great to see that, you know,
and she's We're getting a lot of good feedback from
the residents as well from them meeting greet So it's
great to.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
See absolutely all.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Right now, the next thing on the agenda, we want
to talk about the food. It's a reminder about our
food license renewal.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Yeah, so if you're a food business and have not
renewed your food license for the twenty four to twenty
five year, your food license has now expired. So we
need make sure you submit you're renewal as soon as possible,
as infringements may be issued in the future. So please

(02:29):
for those people that need to get out there and
renew your food license. Just a friendly reminder there for
them businesses.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
All right, Well, it's out and it looks pretty good.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
And I know there's a lot of local organizations offering
these combined West Coast July school holiday programs.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
Yeah, there's a range of events and activities on offer
for the children these coming school holidays from Monday, the
eighth of July to Friday, the nineteenth of July. So
these events are being provided by the Council West Coast Libraries,
the Roseberry and Zion neighborhood Houses, UTAs, and the Galley Museum.

(03:12):
It's a great opportunity for the children of our community
to enjoy them activities. Once more information, they can contact
Council Growth and Change Department or visit the website and
Facebook page.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
This is something that's happening every year now and it's
just great to know that the local organizations of library
is another one that puts on local school holiday activities
and good for the community organizations to get involved like
they're doing.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
Yeah, it is, it's great and I guess it's a
great opportunity there for Council to be part of that.
And I guess way back when they first started this,
the Growth and Change Department certainly were instigator in these
activities and getting everyone together to provide the activities for
our children. So it's great to see.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
For sure, all right. Also coming up next week it
is Ndock Week. We've got some events coming up for that.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
Yeah, So there will be some local events coming up
in Ndok Week. So they've been organized by the Library
Stas and supported by a Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group
of Council. So there will be a flag raising ceremony
at the Minor siding in Queenstown on Monday, the eighth
of July at ten am with a bush tuck of

(04:36):
morning tea being provided afterwards. So you know, great opportunity
there to dig into some bush I guess bush tucker
that the girls or the people will be offering there.
It's a great opportunity there to have some of that
I guess Aboriginal food.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
So it's great, it's always good. Absolutely. This is the
Mayor on air for this week. We're talking of course
to our may Shane Pitt on the telephone line this
morning and last I think after we spoke last time
on Mayor on air, you were catching up with the
Prime Minister.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
How did that get on?

Speaker 3 (05:16):
Yeah, no, it was it was a great, great opportunity
to put the West Coast forward to the Prime Minister.
It was mainly around the agriculture and strawn and you
know some of the just making sure that he was
aware that what a fix it does that we'll have
on the West Coast if they were to close that

(05:38):
industry down there, you know, and we're all supportive of it,
and we look at the state government is also right
behind the support of the industry and it's well, I
guess it's one of them things that we need to
make sure that all our politicians are aware of, you know,
what it will do to the West Coast and what

(06:00):
a Northwest Coast and Tasmania if that industry was to
shut down as strang and now want to do the
strong community. So made sure that he was aware and
of course we heard from him recently around his support
for the industry. We just wanted to make sure that

(06:20):
he was aware that we are supportive and that he
needs to make sure that whatever decisions are made, they're
made with all the information put forward. So we took
all the information we know as well that some information
that the scientists aren't looking at that we believe also

(06:40):
contributing factors to the health of Macquarie Harbor. But he
was very responsive. Some other leading business people from the
Northwest area there as well, and they were all supportive
of the industry in Straw and so they know how

(07:01):
how much of a impact it will make to strawng
end in the Northwest coast if that industry was to
not only if they were to shut down, but even
if they were to reduced any further than what they
already are, So it was a great opportunity.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Well, that's great to hear.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
Also, something else we probably need to talk about is
the opening of the new Strawn playground.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
Yes, no, it's an exciting, exciting scurvo that three o'clock
today we'll be opening the new playground, all the revamped
playgrounds so the playground will win the Saints places where
it was before, but you know, upgraded playgrounds now. It

(07:46):
is exciting. It's taken a little while to get this
project underway and it's something which you know, we're counsel
approved from our own funds, so there was no grant
funding involved with this playground, so you know it is
something which I guess the strong community have been waiting

(08:09):
for for some time now. So it's great to see
that we're able to open that this afternoon. So yeah,
at three o'clock. We've invited the school along, so they've
but the school children belong there as well to be
part of the opening.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
Absolutely, all right, Well, we must wish the kids all
the best as they go on holidays. I think the
reports have been sent out to the parents, so we
certainly wish them well. It's amazing how quickly it goes,
Mayor Shane Pitt. It just seems like yesterday they were
on school holidays again before.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
Yeah, no, it is, but does come around quick, doesn't it.
But you know, I guess the other thing we need
to be aware of now that children are on school holidays,
to make sure that we are aware that they will
be around the streets a lot more often aud and
to be careful while while traveling.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
Also, yeah, very good, very good point. A reminder about
the have your say in relation to the designation of
smoke free areas which you're considering it, Counsel at the moment.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
Yes, it is an opportunity. As we've said before. Scurvo
for the community, they have their say in this important
I guess change that Council will be looking at. And
it's those of the negative and also positive with regard
to this people out there that do vape and smoke

(09:32):
that see this as an issue that if we are
to make these designated smoke free zones, they need to
know pipe up as well and put their views forward
also because we want to hear from both sides of
the argument here and make sure that we listen to everyone.
So that consultation period closes it Friday, the nineteenth of July,

(09:58):
so not long now, so please have you.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
Say absolutely okay.

Speaker 1 (10:04):
And the final thing on the agenda this morning the
West Coast Community Volunteer Strategy.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
Yeah, so if anyone would like to participate in driving
this West Coast Community Volunteer strategy, please contact our Growth
and Change team on six four seven one four seven
hundred or email Growth and Change at West Coast dot TAZ,
dot gov dot AU who they will assist with setting

(10:30):
up the first meeting if needed. Yeah, it's I guess
it's If anyone wants to be involved in this, please
contact the team there and they'll certainly be able to assist.
But it is something which we see is something necessary
in our community given it. Our volunteers do a fantastic
job and they are all struggling for members. So we

(10:52):
need to work through how we can attract our volunteers
to all our organizations that quir you know them them volunteers.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
So absolutely yea good good point. All right, Mayor shame Pitt.
Thanks as always for your time. And you're busy the weekend.

Speaker 3 (11:11):
Ah my work this weekend. Okay, that's why we're on
the phone.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
Yeah, no worries.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
Well, don't work, don't work too hard mate. All right mate,
thanks for your time.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
There we go.

Speaker 1 (11:23):

for this week's Mayor on air. Any questions at all
for the Mayor you'd like to ask him, I can
do that on your behalf. Just make sure you register
