Kerry (00:00):
Hello and welcome to the
Melanin Unicorn Podcast, a
weekly podcast that is dedicatedto the upliftment of black
women.
If you are feeling stuck, I amgoing to help you get unstuck,
so you will no longer want tosit on the side of the road, but
instead get up and startwalking towards your dreams and
goals in life, and plus hold each other accountable.
(00:21):
My name is Kerry and you arelistening to episode number one
we just aptly titled Just ComingInto the Fourth Quarter Doesn't
Count You Out.
Now, let's get started, enjoythe show.
In today's episode, I wouldlike to talk about Just Coming
(00:44):
Into the Fourth Quarter Doesn'tCount You Out.
I found a very interestingdefinition on Google, of course,
and the quote, the word, wasback in the game.
So the definition is to becomeinvolved or active in something
again, returning to someactivity after an absence.
(01:08):
I feel like, for me, I wasn'treturning to an activity because
I didn't even start.
Those quarters came and went,so for me, returning to
something after hiatus caneither energize me and you or
make us feel defeated.
Full transparency here.
(01:28):
Like I just previously said, that first quarter, that second
and that third quarter came andwent, and here we are in October
.
Can you imagine Right.
And I said this fourth quarteroh, we getting it together, sis,
okay.
And so here I am.
Oh, this is it, let's get downto business, right?
(01:51):
So let me explain why I'm soenergized in this fourth quarter
.
I left my contract job at theend of June and it was.
It wasn't a bad place to work.
My voice was amazing.
She wanted me to come on fulltime, but I turned her down and
told her that the goals that Ihave for myself do not align
(02:14):
with this role.
Who says you want to talk aboutgrowth?
Listen, there was a time in mylife when I would have taken a
job offer and then beenmiserable, and then I would have
started looking for my escape, turning into Houdini so I could
make a run for it, and this hashappened to me in previous jobs.
(02:35):
I would accept roles, I wouldsay yes, and my whole being is
screaming, screaming, girl, youin danger.
And in my Oda May Brown voicefrom Ghost hey, Whoopi.
So what is growth exactly?
Growth is the process ofdevelopment or maturing,
(02:57):
physically, mentally, orspiritually.
We've all seen that clip fromInsecure when the good sis says
you know what that is, that'sgrowth And And immediately
immediately high-five oneanother and yell out, I know
that's right, but when did Irealize that growth was
happening to me?
When did you realize thatgrowth was happening for you?
(03:20):
when growth was happening forme?
When I said something, I didn'tbacktrack, it was final.
When I said no, no is a wholesentence, I was not going to
explain myself to the route ofexhaustion.
I stopped second guessingmyself.
I no longer entertained bullmess.
(03:41):
I would not allow myself to beguilt-tripped into doing
something I didn't want to do,right, so you know.
So then you have the flip sideof that.
When are you not true toyourself?
When was I not true to myselfwhen I put my desires on the
back burner and I elevatedothers' desires and purposes
(04:03):
ahead of my own?
Hmm, let me tell you something.
Slowly but surely, resentfulnesssets in.
You become angry, sometimeseven spiteful.
You don't invest in yourself, you procrastinate your
confidence and yourself becomeslow, as well as your self-esteem
(04:24):
takes a dive to.
You stop believing in yourself,right?
So those things that we have totake into consideration,
because this is our lives thatwe're talking about, right?
We do not want to come to theend of our lives and be shown
what we should have and couldhave accomplished, like on a
(04:47):
movie screen, and we're justwatching our lives and we
realize that we have squanderedit and we didn't move when we
should have, and we let fear anddoubt and what other people's
conversations keep us from doingso.
(05:07):
It's time for us to wake up outof the slumber.
We must wake up in order tofulfill our purposes and our
desires and our goals forourselves, right?
So when you're waking up out ofyour slumber, this is what
happens.
You know that you deservebetter than where you are right
(05:30):
now.
You are no longer doubtingyourself.
You start to realize, you knowwhat?
I'm hella talented and creative.
Yes, sis, you are.
You most certainly are, and youare no longer allowing others
to dictate your wins and yoursuccesses, and you no longer
(05:51):
need others to make you feelvalidated.
No, and most importantly, youare no longer being your own
roadblock.
Now, that's growth, okay, that's coming into this fourth
quarter or wherever you are inyour life at this moment, you
(06:11):
are no longer going to becounted out, and we are going to
affirm and we are going topersist and we are going to hold
each other accountable.
Because let me tell yousomething this is not a podcast,
this is not a show where we aretalking about other black women
(06:32):
.
We are not gossiping, we arenot putting people down.
No, this show that was birthedwithin me is about the
upliftment and the empowermentof black women, and that's what
I'm here for.
And if I even for a second feelmyself deviating from that,
(06:53):
then this show, this podcast, isover, because that is not the
purpose of it.
That is not what was pouredinto my spirit by the Holy
Spirit of how he wants this showto go.
So I'm going to leave you withan inspiring quote, and it comes
(07:14):
from Attorney Carol MoseleyBraun, a former US senator who
became the first AfricanAmerican woman elected to the
Senate and the first womansenator to represent Illinois.
Ms Moseley Braun was also a USambassador to New Zealand, and
this is what she said Magic liesin challenging what seems
impossible.
(07:34):
I'm going to say that againMagic lies in challenging what
seems impossible.
So, whatever is going on inyour life, you are deeming it
impossible.
I am telling you it is verypossible, it is extremely
possible, it is possible for you, it is possible for me.
This podcast was birthed out ofimpossible and it has become
(08:00):
possible.
So I am challenging you withthat quote.
You turned your impossiblesinto possible.
That's the goal, that's thehomework.
That is what you and I will beworking on from this day forward
turning the impossible into thepossible.
(08:20):
We are no longer countingourselves out, we are counting
ourselves in, and that's whatwe're doing.
And I thank you for tuning in tomy first podcast.
It really was a journey to gethere.
I am not going to lie, it hasbeen a journey.
(08:41):
It has really been just a lotof starts and stops.
You know the downing of myself, the saying can I?
I purchased the microphone atthe beginning of the year and
caught it on sale it's a Yeti,if anyone is interested in
knowing and I still didn't doanything with it.
(09:04):
I bought a fancy little case toput it in.
You know I got the covers sothose peas wouldn't sound like
bombs coming out of your mouth.
I did everything and I didnothing sat and.
Every scenario that I came upwith as to why or I'll do it
(09:26):
later, it just was in my mind,it was impossible, and so I'm
here to tell you that I turnedthat impossible in this fourth
quarter into the possible.
So thank you so much for tuningin to the very first show.
I'm so appreciative.
Show notes will be available onbut sprout, Buzz sprout.
(09:48):
