(02:02):
want to elevate your career tonew heights, you're in the right

Let me ask you something.
Have you ever felt like you'recapable of so much more, but
you're not sure how to breakthrough the barriers holding you
back?
Or maybe you've wondered if thework you've been doing all these
years is still enough to get youwhere you want to go?
If you have, trust me, you'renot alone.

(02:24):
This podcast is your bi-weeklyguide to standing out, leveling
up, and making your next chapteryour best chapter yet.
And I'm here to walk thisjourney with you.
But before we dive into whatthis show is all about, let me
share a little about my journeyand why I'm so passionate about
helping mid-career professionalslike you.

(02:45):
From a young age, I had a deeplove for books and storytelling.
They were my escape and myinspiration.
Growing up as the middle childin a family of six, I often felt
like a supporting character inthe story of our bustling
household.
My parents were loving andsupportive, but let's be honest.
When you're one of six kids,it's easy to feel like you're
fading into the background.

(03:06):
Can you relate to that?
Have you ever felt overlooked, like your contributions weren't
being noticed or appreciated?
Maybe you've experienced timeswhen you had so much to give,
but it felt like no one waspaying attention.
For me, my mom was my champion.
She'd tell me, you have a voiceand it matters.
Don't be afraid to use it.
Those words became a mantra thatstayed with me through every

(03:28):
challenge I faced.
Her belief in me gave me theconfidence to start believing in
myself.
Now take a moment to think aboutwho in your life has been your
champion.
Who has seen your potential evenwhen you doubted yourself?
How have their words or actionsshaped the person you've become?

(03:49):
In high school, I found myselfon a new stage.
Sports.
While I wasn't someone whonaturally sought attention,
being part of a team that workedhard and earned recognition
taught me something profound.
It's okay to be noticed.
It's not about bragging.
It's about honoring the effortand dedication it takes to

(04:11):
achieve something meaningful.
Have you ever hesitated to putyourself out there because it
felt like bragging?
What if instead you saw it ascelebrating your hard work and
the value you bring to thetable?
Our team won four statechampionships.
But more than the trophies, whatstood out to me was the role of
our coaches.
They saw potential in us that wecouldn't always see in

(04:35):
ourselves.
That experience taught me thepower of having someone in your
corner, someone who believes inyou and pushes you to rise to
the occasion.
When I became a parent, I made apromise to myself.
My children would always feelseen and celebrated for their
unique skills, gifts, andtalents.

(04:57):
This commitment to helpingothers feel valued became the
foundation of my approach tocareer coaching.

Let me ask you this (05:03):
what commitments have you made to
yourself, your family, or yourcareer?
How do those commitments guideyour choices today?
Think about it for a moment.
I'll be right back.

might feel overlooked, unsure,or stuck.

behind you?
Have you questioned whether youstill have what it takes to

I've been there, and I want youto know that you're not alone.

(06:51):
What difference could it make tofeel truly seen and valued?
This podcast is my way ofreminding you that your
experiences, your skills, andyour unique story matter.
I believe in the potential ofmid-career professionals to
create incredible change, notjust in their own lives, but in
the industries they touch andthe people they inspire.

(07:14):
It's my heartfelt commitment toprovide not only practical

Because when you grow, when youstep into your potential, when
you own your story, amazingthings happen.
And I want to be here with youevery step of the way, cheering
you on as you create the careerand the life you've always
dreamed of.
What is a mid-career makeover,you ask?
Well, have you ever felt likeyour work no longer aligns with

(07:56):
your values?
Or maybe you felt a disconnectbetween what you're doing now
and the kind of impact you wantto make.
Take a moment to reflect.
If you could realign your careerwith your true values, what
would that look like?
This is where the idea of amid-career makeover comes in.
A mid-career makeover is atransformative process designed

(08:17):
to revitalize and realign yourprofessional life.
It's not just about updatingyour resume or switching jobs,
it's about taking a step back toassess where you are,
identifying what's no longerserving you, and making
intentional changes to reigniteyour passion and maximize your
potential.
Why is a mid-career makeoverimportant?
Many professionals hesitate tomake bold changes because they

(08:40):
fear starting over, lack clarityabout what they want, or worry
about how others might perceivetheir transition.
But staying in a role thatdoesn't align with your values
can lead to burnout, dissatisfaction, and missed
opportunities for growth.
A mid-career makeover helps youreclaim control over your path,

(09:01):
turning uncertainty intopurpose.
What does the process look like?
A true mid-career makeoverbegins with self-reflection.
You identify your strengths, passions, and values, and then
assess how they align with yourcurrent role.
Next, you explore newopportunities, whether that's

(09:22):
pivoting to a differentindustry, upgrading your skills,
or even taking on leadershiproles that better align with
your goals.
Ultimately, a mid-careermakeover isn't just about
change, it's abouttransformation.
It's about realizing that yourexperience isn't a limitation,
it's your greatest asset.
With the right mindset andstrategy, you can turn your

(09:42):
career into a platform formaking the kind of impact that
excites and inspires you everyday.

SPEAKER_03 (09:56):
It's your story, your brand, your future.

SPEAKER_00 (10:50):
Okay, so again, the website for get a better job is
getabetterjob.
For today's episode, I want totalk about experience and
storytelling, both of whichshould be two tools in a
mid-career professional'sarsenal.
Let's face it, experience issomething you have to earn.
It's built through sleeplessnights, tough decisions, and the

(11:10):
countless lessons learned alongthe way.
And here's the incredible thingabout experience.
It's yours.
It's a treasure that no one cantake from you, no matter what
challenges or changes you face.
But let's be honest, how oftendo we question whether our
experience is enough?
Maybe you feel like the world ismoving faster than you can catch

(11:32):
up, or you wonder if the skillsyou've built are still relevant.
Maybe you've been overlooked foropportunities, or felt like your
career is on autopilot, stuck ina loop that no longer excites
you.
If that resonates with you, Iwant you to pause for a moment
and ask yourself, what if thosedoubts didn't define you?
What if your experiences, everychallenge, every solution, every

(11:54):
success, were actually proof ofyour strength and resilience?
Here's something to think about.
What if you stopped seeing thegaps in your career as setbacks
and started seeing them asopportunities?
What could you achieve if youembraced your experience as your
greatest asset?
I think you would find thatthose gaps are not roadblocks,
but stepping stones, leading youto unique insights and

(12:18):
opportunities that set youapart.
You'd discover that yourexperience, even the
unconventional parts, is yourgreatest competitive advantage,
one that positions you as aleader with resilience,
perspective, and the ability toadapt and grow.
Let's talk about storytellingfor a bit.
Storytelling is one of the mostpowerful tools mid-career

(12:41):
professionals can use to elevatetheir careers.
It's not just about recountingthe past, it's about shaping how
others perceive your journey, values, and vision for the
future.
A well-crafted story canhighlight your unique strengths,
position you as a thoughtleader, and make you memorable
in the minds of those who mattermost.
Hiring managers, industry peers, and decision makers.

(13:05):
For me, storytelling has alwaysbeen a passion.
From a young age, I wascaptivated by the way stories
could transport us, connect us,and inspire us to dream bigger.
This love of storytelling becamea cornerstone of my approach to
career branding.
I believe that every person hasa story worth telling.

(13:26):
And part of my role is to helpmid-career professionals craft
and share that narrative in away that highlights their
strengths and achievements.
At this stage in your career, you've amassed a wealth of
experience, skills, andaccomplishments.
But if those achievements aren'tcommunicated effectively, they
can easily go unnoticed.

(13:47):
Storytelling bridges that gap.
It turns a list of roles, responsibilities, and skills
into a compelling narrative thatshows not just what you've done,
but why it matters.
Consider this.
When someone asks about yourcareer, do you simply list job
titles and duties?
Or do you share the moments thatdefined you?
How you navigated challenges, achieved milestones, and grew as

(14:11):
a professional?
A great story answers questionslike, what makes you unique in
your field?
How have your experiences shapedyour approach to work?
What drives you to excel?
When you tell your story, yougive people a reason to care
about your journey and to seeyour potential beyond a resume
or LinkedIn profile.
If you're asking yourself, howdo I even create a story?

(14:32):
Try focusing on three elements.
The first element is yourstarting point.
Where did your journey begin?
Reflect on the early stages ofyour career and what motivated
you to pursue your field.
Perhaps it was a personalpassion, a transformative
moment, or a mentor who inspiredyou.

(14:53):
The second element is thosepivotal moments.
What are the turning points thatdefine your career?
These could be challenges youovercame, projects you excelled
in, or decisions that shapedyour path.
Focus on moments that showcaseyour resilience, problem-solving
skills, and ability to adapt.
And then there's your visionforward.

(15:15):
Where are you going next?
Your story should not onlycelebrate your past, but also
give insight into your goals, values, and what you're
passionate about achieving inthe future.
Mid-career is often a time oftransition, whether you're
pivoting to a new field, pursuing a leadership role, or
seeking greater alignment withyour values.

(15:37):
In these moments, storytellingbecomes even more critical.
It allows you to connect thedots between your past and your
future, showing how yourexperiences have prepared you
for what's next.
Imagine you're transitioningfrom a technical role to a
managerial position.
Instead of simply listing yourtechnical expertise, your story
becomes a powerful narrative oftransformation.

(15:59):
You highlight how your deepunderstanding of the technical
landscape has enabled you tolead diverse teams, tackle
complex challenges with clarity, and bridge communication gaps
between departments.
You're not just recounting yourpast, you're painting a vivid
picture of how your uniquecombination of skills and

(16:20):
experiences positions you as theperfect choice to lead,
innovate, and deliver results inthis new role.
At its core, storytelling isabout connection.
It helps you relate to others ona deeper level, building trust
and credibility.
When you share your storyauthentically, you invite people
to see the human side of yourprofessional journey, the

(16:41):
challenges you faced, thelessons you've learned, and the
values that guide you.
This connection is especiallypowerful in interviews,
networking, and thoughtleadership opportunities.
A great story can turn a casualconversation into a memorable
interaction, leaving a lastingimpression that sets you apart.

So let me ask you (17:01):
what's your story?
What are the moments that haveshaped you as a professional?
How do your experiences reflectyour values and aspirations?
What message do you want toshare with the world about who
you are and where you're headed?
Your story is powerful.
It's a reflection of everythingyou've achieved and a preview of

(17:23):
what's possible.
Don't underestimate its abilityto open doors, build
relationships, and createopportunities.
But here's the truth.
If you don't tell your story, someone else will.
And that version might nothighlight your strengths, your
vision, or the incredible valueyou bring to the table.
By staying silent, you're givingothers permission to shape the

(17:46):
narrative and you're robbing theworld of the insight,
inspiration, and leadership thatonly you can offer.
Every single experience you'vehad, every challenge you've
overcome, and every successyou've celebrated has led you to
this moment.
These aren't just memories, they're the building blocks of a
story that can set you apart andposition you as the kind of

(18:08):
professional people trust, admire, and want to work with.

Think of it this way (18:11):
your career is a narrative in
progress, and the next chapteris yours to write.
What kind of story do you wantit to be?
Will it be bold?
Will it inspire?
Will it reflect the unique andcapable person you are?
I know you have a compellingstory inside of you.
It's waiting to be told.

(18:33):
And when you embrace it, theimpact can be transformative,
not just for your career, butfor everyone who has the
privilege of hearing it.
So don't hold back.
Step forward, take control, andlet the world see the remarkable
story only you can tell.
