Into the most confident, energized and intentional season
yet.
We're kicking things off with aMonday Mindset Minute that's
going to challenge how you thinkabout normal and why it might
be holding you back fromexcellence.
Then I'll share two powerfulweight loss tips.
I swear by my ultimate glow-upguide for caring for your lips
after 40.
(01:45):
A financial glow-up step thatwill protect your future.
And we'll wrap up with a lifecoaching segment on what it
really means to flourish, plushow you can start today.
So grab your coffee pop inthose earbuds and let's get
glowing.
So here we are with today'sMonday Mindset Minutes.
(02:09):
Let's start the week with thisreminder Normal doesn't create
excellence.
Think about the women youadmire.
Whether it's an entrepreneurwho built something incredible,
an artist who changed the gameor an athlete who pushed past
every limit, they all havesomething in common.
(02:32):
At some point, people thoughtthey were too much, too
different or even a little tooobsessed.
And guess what?
That's exactly why theyachieved greatness.
If you're a woman over 40, youalready know life will hand you
(02:53):
plenty of moments where you haveto choose blend in or break out
.
And here's the truth.
When you suddenly set a biggoal or chase a dream, not
everyone will understand, noteveryone will cheer you on.
When you're pursuing yourversion of excellence, whether
that's losing 50 pounds,starting a new business, writing
(03:16):
a book, going back to school ortotally reinventing your life,
expect to make mistakes, expectsome failures, expect challenges
and, yes, expect to bemisunderstood, even laughed at.
But remember this people whocriticize your dreams are often
(03:40):
the ones who never had thecourage or discipline to try
themselves.
The ones who've achievedsomething meaningful will never
mock you.
They'll respect the grind.
There's a saying first theyignore you, then they laugh at
you.
Then they fight you, then youwin.
(04:02):
So stop asking for permissionto shine.
Your dreams belong to you, notto the crowd, not to the critics
, not to anyone else's comfortzone.
Small minds gossip about people.
Great minds talk about ideas, plans and goals.
(04:23):
To be great is to bemisunderstood, and if you're a
woman in midlife, this is theperfect time to step out of the
normal lane and into yourexceptional lane.
So this week, do something thatpushes you out of your comfort
zone.
Speak up, take the leap, startthe thing.
(04:44):
Excellence isn't about beingperfect.
It's about refusing to settlefor average.
Your time is now.
Go, make it happen, glow getter.
So now we're kicking off thenext segment with two weight
loss tips that I've trulychanged the game for me and that
I swear by as part of my glowup journey.
(05:05):
Let's start with one that'ssimple but so powerful once you
get the hang of it Read yournutrition labels.
Now.
I know this may sound basic, but, girl, this is a whole
nother skill and one that canseriously transform the way you
eat, shop and feel.
Because here's the truth If youdon't know what's in your food,
(05:29):
it's really hard to makealigned choices for your goals.
Nutrition labels are like cheatsheets they tell you exactly
what you're putting in your body, and when you're on a wellness
and weight loss journey, especially in midlife, this
information matters more thanever.
So let me break it down.
(05:50):
So what should you look for ina nutrition label?
Number one serving size.
First things first.
Always check the serving sizeat the top, sometimes what looks
like one serving is actuallytwo or more.
Sneaky, right, that tiny bag ofgranola might be three servings
(06:11):
, not one.
This one mistake alone canthrow off your calorie and macro
count.
Number two calories.
Look at how many calories arein each serving.
It's not about obsessing overevery calorie, but being aware
when you're trying to loseweight.
Understanding your intake helpsyou stay in a calorie deficit
(06:33):
without starving or guessing.
Number three protein.
This one's gold in midlife.
We need more protein topreserve muscle, feel satisfied
and burn fat efficiently.
I aim for high-protein foodsthat keep me full and help my
metabolism stay fired up.
(06:54):
Number four added sugars.
This one is big.
Sugar is sneaky and it adds upfast, especially in processed
foods.
Look for added sugars on thelabel, not just total sugar.
Keep it low if you're trying tolose weight and reduce
inflammation.
Even healthy looking foods likeyogurt and granola bars can be
(07:17):
sugar bombs.
Number five fiber.
Don't skip this one.
Fiber is your bestie for bloodsugar balance, digestion and
helping you feel full longer.
I aim for foods with threegrams or more of fiber per
serving.
When I can, I aim for a totalof 25 to 35 grams of fiber per
(07:39):
day.
Number six ingredient list.
Flip the package over and scanthe ingredient list.
The shorter and the simpler thebetter.
If you can't pronounce it or itsounds like it came from a
science lab, it's probably notthe best glow-up fuel.
And here's a pro tipIngredients are listed in order
(08:01):
by weight.
So if sugar, corn syrup or seedoils are at the top three,
that's a huge red flag.
Reading nutrition labels isn'tabout being perfect.
It's about being informed.
It gives you the power backover your choices, your energy,
your body and your glow up.
(08:22):
Trust me, once you make labelreading a habit, your shopping
cart and your results will bothstart to look very different in
the best way.
All right, let's move on to tipnumber two for weight loss, one
that's huge for women over 40who want to lose weight, feel
(08:43):
better and glow up from theinside out.
Eat more anti-inflammatoryfoods.
Now, don't worry, this isn'tabout going on some extreme
cleanse or cutting outeverything you love.
This is about adding foods thathelp your body work better,
feel better and, yes, even burnfat better.
(09:05):
Here's the deal.
As we age, especially in our 40s, 50s and beyond, our bodies
naturally become more prone toinflammation.
Beyond, our bodies naturallybecome more prone to
inflammation, hormonal changes, stress, poor sleep, processed
(09:27):
foods, even just life, can alllead to chronic low-level
inflammation, and when theinflammation builds up, it can
make weight loss way harder thanit needs to be.
Inflammation makes your bodyhold onto fat, messes with your
hormones, slows down yourmetabolism, increases bloating
and can leave you feel tired, puffy and stuck.
But the good news what you eatcan calm that fire and help your
(09:54):
body thrive.
Anti-inflammatory foods arepacked with antioxidants, fiber,
healthy fats and nutrients thatsoothe your system instead of
stressing it out.
They help regulate blood sugar, support digestion, balance
hormones and even boost yourmood.
(10:15):
In short, they're your midlifeglow-up fuel.
So here are some of my favoriteanti-inflammatory foods that are
simple, delicious and easy tostart.
Adding into every one of yourmeals Avocados full of healthy
fats and fiber that supporthormone health and keep you
(10:36):
satisfied.
Wild-caught salmon omega-3s forthe win.
They help fight inflammationand support metabolism and brain
health.
Berries like blueberries andraspberries, loaded with
antioxidants to protect yourcells and support glowing skin
to protect your cells andsupport glowing skin.
Leafy greens like spinach, kale, arugula, packed with fiber,
(10:59):
vitamins and phytonutrients tosupport and detox and hormone
balance.
Sweet potatoes full of fiberand antioxidants.
They're super satisfyingwithout spiking your blood sugar
.
Walnuts and almonds A handfulof these give you healthy fats,
protein and minerals that fightinflammation.
(11:22):
Oh, green tea.
Swap your afternoon coffee forthis and enjoy
metabolism-boosting,anti-inflammatory sip of green
tea, turmeric with black pepper,of course, and it's added to
soups, teas, roasted veggies fora powerful anti-inflammatory
boost.
Finally, extra virgin olive oil, a pantry staple that's rich in
(11:45):
healthy fats and antioxidants.
Drizzle it on everything.
So don't you know, add, don'tsubtract.
Don't stress about removing allthe bad foods right away.
Just start adding more of thesegood ones and your body will
feel a difference fast.
So if you're feeling stuck on aweight loss journey, constantly
(12:08):
bloated or like your metabolismis slowing down, start focusing
on calming your body, notpunishing it.
Eating anti-inflammatory foodsis like giving your body a deep
breath, and the glow-up resultsthey speak for themselves.
Now on to the financial glow-upsegment, and today we're diving
(12:29):
into step five.
Check your credit score andcredit history.
This is a continuation from thefirst four steps, from the last
four podcast episodes.
Now listen, I know finances canfeel overwhelming, especially
if you've gone through divorce, debt, job changes or just life.
(12:49):
But part of the glowing up isknowing where you stand,
especially when it comes to yourcredit.
So you may ask yourself why?
Because your credit scoreaffects everything the interest
rates you're offered, the homeyou can buy or rent, the car you
can finance, even your cellphone bill or job applications.
(13:13):
So let's dive in.
What is your credit reportversus your credit score?
Your credit report is adetailed history of how you've
managed your credit, loans, credit cards, payment history
and more.
Your credit score is athree-digit number, usually
between 300 and 850, that sumsup how credit-worthy you look to
(13:39):
lenders.
Both are super important and,the best part, you can check
them for free.
So how do you get your freecredit report?
Federal law gives you access toone free report every year from
each of the three major creditbureaus, which are Equifax,
experian and TransUnion.
(13:59):
You can go toannualcreditreportcom.
It's the only official sitethat's truly free and backed by
the government.
You don't need a credit card, you don't have to sign up for
anything and here's a pro tipPull all three at once if you
(14:20):
want a full snapshot, or spacethem out throughout the year to
keep tabs on your info.
How to check your credit scorefor free.
You can also check your scorethrough using Credit Karma,
credit, sesame.
Some banking apps and creditcard companies like Capital One
(14:41):
or Discover offer free creditscores too.
These scores aren't always theexact FICO score a lender uses,
but they're close enough to giveyou a clear picture of where
you stand and in general, scores700 plus are generally good.
750 plus are great.
(15:03):
Below 650 means there's roomfor improvement, and that's okay
.
You're here to glow up, notshame yourself.
Another pro tip freeze yourcredit.
Here's why it's smart.
Now let's talk about freezingyour credit, because it's one of
the most powerful financialglow-up moves you can make.
(15:23):
What does a credit freeze do?
It locks your credit profile sothat no one, including scammers
, can open new accounts to yourname without your permission.
It's free, it's easy and itprotects you from identity theft
.
Here's why I recommend it.
(15:44):
You're less likely to fallvictim to credit fraud.
It doesn't affect your score.
You can unfreeze it anytime youneed to apply for a loan or a
credit card.
You need to freeze your creditat all three credit bureaus,
which is Experian, equifax andTransUnion.
One takes about 10 minutesonline and, yes, you can also
(16:10):
freeze your child's credit ifyou're their mom, which I did
for my son when he was growingup.
So just remember, you can'tblow up what you don't know.
Checking your credit is likestepping on a financial scale
not to judge yourself, but toempower yourself.
Knowledge is confidence.
(16:31):
So this week, carve out 30minutes, pull your reports,
check your score, freeze yourcredit, protect your peace and
your pockets, because we're notjust glowing up our bodies,
we're glowing up our entirelives, and that includes
building strong, healthy moneyhabits.
(16:53):
Okay, now we're getting into aspecial segment, something we
don't talk about nearly enoughlip care.
Yep, we're going there becauseyour lips, they age, just like
the rest of your face, and ifyou're over 40, you may have
noticed things like dryness, fine lines, thinning or color
(17:15):
loss and, honestly, it's totallynormal, but it's also totally
treatable with the right care.
So today I'm giving you theultimate midlife lip glow up
guide, because your lips deservejust as much love as your
skincare does.
So step one hydrate those lips.
(17:35):
Am and pm.
This is a non-negotiable.
As we age, our skin includingour lips loses moisture faster,
so we need to be proactive.
Loses moisture faster, so weneed to be proactive.
Look for lip balms that havehydralonic acid, which draws in
water like a magnet.
Ceramides which repair andprotect the lip barrier squalane
(18:00):
.
It locks in hydration.
Shea butter and beeswax deeplynourishes and seals.
Lanolin, ultra healing ifyou're not sensitive to it.
My go-to lip savers Laneige LipSleeping Mask, day or night,
it's that good.
(18:20):
Aqua 4 Lip Repair, especiallybefore bed.
La Roche-Posay Psychoplast LipsSummer Fridays Lip Butter Balm,
dr Dan's Cordy Balm for superchap lips and Tatcha the Kissu
Lip Mask for a luxe retreat.
(18:40):
Keep one in your bag, one inyour nightstand, one in your car
, one at your desk.
Trust me, it makes a difference.
Step two use SPF on your lipsevery single day.
Your lips are super sensitiveto sun damage and the signs show
up as wrinkles, pigmentation, premature aging and even skin
(19:06):
cancer in extreme cases.
The best SPF balms that I loveAlta MD UV Lip Balm, spf 36,.
Kula Organic Lip Luxe, spf 30,.
Jack Black Intense Therapy LipBalm, spf 25, or Super Goop Play
(19:28):
Lip Balm, spf 30.
Think of SPF Balm as your lipsdaily armor, especially if
you're walking, traveling orliving your best life.
Step three exfoliate weekly, notdaily.
Exfoliating removes dry, flakyskin and preps your lips to
(19:49):
absorb all that yummy hydration.
How do you do it?
Gently, here's a DIY Scrub withhoney and sugar on your lips,
or you could use a lip exfoliantlike Fresh Sugar, lip Polish or
Tarte Pout prep.
Or you can take a toothbrush ora damp washcloth and do a light
(20:12):
circular motion.
And only one to two times aweek, that's plenty Overdoing.
It can actually make your lipsmore dry.
Step four boost the collagen.
Midlife equals natural collagenloss and that includes the lips
.
But we can absolutely helpboost it At-home tricks
(20:36):
Peptide-infused lip plumperslike City Beauty, city Lips or
Babe Original Plumping, lipJelly.
Lip microneedling masks, ifyou're comfortable, gentle
facial exercises, gua sha or lipmassage to boost circulation.
And here are some pro-teettreatments Lip fillers, base for
(21:02):
a soft, natural look, laser ormicroneedling around the mouth,
light chemical peels or Botox, lip flip, subtle lift without
volume.
None of this is required, butif you're curious, there are
amazing options that looknatural and fresh.
(21:23):
Step 5.
Nighttime lip repair routine.
Bedtime is prime time forhealing your lips.
Here's a glow up nighttimeroutine Gently exfoliate if
needed, apply a nourishing lipoil or serum, lock it all in
with a rich lip balm likeAquaphor, vaseline or Laneige.
(21:47):
Bonus tip Use a humidifier inyour bedroom if dry.
It helps your lips and yourskin will feel better while you
sleep.
I use the Canopy Humidifier.
I have them in my room and myson's bedroom and the nice thing
it has essential oils you couldadd to it and it has a white
(22:12):
noise and also a light.
So I love the canopyhumidifiers.
Step six lifestyle lip love tips.
These are the little habitsthat make the difference.
Love tips these are the littlehabits that make the difference.
Drink your water.
Avoid licking your lips itdries them out.
(22:33):
Use a straw with coffee or wineto prevent staining.
Remove lipstick gently withmicellar water or oil.
Skip matte lipstick every day.
Alternate would be tinted balmsor gloss.
Your lips deserve comfort andcolor.
Okay, final glow-up reminderyour lips are part of your face.
(22:58):
They deserve care, hydrationand a little attention, just
like your under eyes and yourneck.
And a little attention.
Just like your under eyes andyour neck, lips can tell the
story of your hydration, yoursun habits and your self-care.
So love on them, treat themlike soft, gorgeous features
that they are, and remember soft, plump, healthy lips aren't
(23:24):
about age, they're about routine.
So now we're on to the finalsegment and probably my favorite
, a life coaching tip that Ithink every woman in midlife
needs to hear what it reallymeans to live a flourishing life
and how you can start rightwhere you are.
(23:46):
And how you can start rightwhere you are Now.
Here's the thing Flourishingisn't about being happy every
second of the day.
No one is happy 24-7.
Real flourishing is aboutfeeling fulfilled, like your
life is rich with meaning, connection and those little
sparks of joy that make you gladto wake up in the morning.
(24:09):
Think of it like this You're aflower in your own garden to
bloom.
You don't need to change into adifferent kind of flower.
You just need the right mix ofsun, water and fresh air sun,
(24:30):
water and fresh air.
In other words, you flourishwhen you connect deeply with
others, spend time on thingsthat matter to you and let your
strengths and quirks shinewithout apology.
So how do you start flourishing, especially if life feels busy,
messy or uncertain?
Especially if life feels busy, messy or uncertain, start small.
Cherish your people.
(24:50):
Spend time with the ones wholift you up and love you as you
are.
Protect your energy from thosewho don't Grow what's good.
Practice gratitude every day.
Savor the small joys A good cupof coffee, a morning walk, a
hug that lingers.
(25:11):
Own your strengths.
Lean into what you're naturallygood at and find ways to use
those gifts daily.
Move your body.
Stretch Walk, dance in yourkitchen.
Movement fuels both your energyand your body.
Stretch Walk, dance in yourkitchen.
Movement fuels both your energyand your mood.
(25:32):
Drop what weighs you down Realgrudges, old stories and clutter
Anything that steals your peace.
You don't need to overhaul yourentire life to flourish.
It's about small, intentionalsteps that add up over time.
So here's my challenge for youtoday Ask yourself what's one
(25:57):
simple thing I can do today tohelp me bloom.
Remember you are one of a kind.
You're not behind, you're nottoo late.
This is your season to flourishand it's time you let yourself
shine.
