Welcome to the
Minimalist Educator Podcast, a
podcast about paring down torefocus on the purpose and
priorities in our roles withco-hosts and co-authors of the
Minimalist Teacher Book, TammyMusialski-Borneman and Christine
Arnold.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Hello and welcome to
our preview episode for the
Minimalist Educator podcast.
I'm here with Tammy doing ourpreview today.
How are you, Tammy?
Speaker 3 (00:46):
I'm great.
I am a little flabbergastedthat we are moving into season
four.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
I know it's crazy,
isn't it?
I don't know where the timegoes.
We are moving on past 55episodes.
It's crazy, but we've beenhaving a ball doing the podcast
so far, or, or I have anyway.
I shouldn't speak, okay, no?
Speaker 3 (01:09):
no, I agree, it's
been.
I love talking to people.
I love talking to you aboutjust all the things that we've
been talking about Um thisseason we've definitely done um.
We've gotten kind of got acouple of new things going on.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
We do, yeah, and I'm
excited about it.
We have our guests, as always, and we have our episodes where
it's just you and I chattingabout different topics.
But we're trying a fewdifferent things this season as
well, so I'd be reallyinterested to see how everyone
enjoys the new take.
I think the first thing thatpeople will encounter in season
(01:47):
four is we're doing a countdownto start off the season with our
top three most popular episodesat the time of recording.
Obviously, it probably won't bethe most popular ones in
perpetuity, but at the time ofrecording they were our top
three most popular episodes.
(02:07):
So I think that's a really funway to start off season four and
look back at what people haveenjoyed previously.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Yeah, I like that too
.
Those are.
You know, I've had have enjoyedmany, all of our episodes, I
should say all of them, um, butthese ones have particularly
just rung true to people, and soit's been great to see how many
downloads have actuallyoccurred for those episodes,
which is really awesome, um, andone of those is a recurring
(02:40):
guest, which is kind of fun, um,and one of them is just you and
me.
Yeah, that's fun too.
It is super fun, yeah.
Um, we also have in this season, uh, something else that's new
we have a two part episode.
So it's well, it's two episodes, but it's two parts because we
(03:03):
got talking and we just talked alot, a lot, a lot.
And that was about when we sentout the survey to educators to
share with their partners sothat they could give us some
insight on how the teachingprofession impacts their
personal lives and theirrelationships.
And so, yeah, we spent a goodchunk of time talking through
(03:26):
those responses and I mean itwas just interesting to see what
, or read what people thoughtand like, what the impact was
and how it affected theirpartners.
So I'm sure that our listenersare going to enjoy that and,
just you know, it's just superinsightful.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
I think so.
Yeah, it gives you pause tothink about how this work that
we do shows up in the rest ofour lives.
For sure, I think it'sdefinitely a two-parter not to
miss, for sure.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I also really enjoyed ourlittle bend that we go on this
season as well, where we'rereally diving into some
(04:08):
different instructionalstrategies.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
Me too, because I
know we both well.
You still teach part of thetime and then you also like work
with teachers and I coachteachers, so I get to be in
classrooms a lot.
So it was fun to just kind ofpull some examples from things
that we've seen or even in ourown teaching experiences.
Just kind of pull out thoseexamples to kind of hit home
(04:33):
with some of the topics.
And I like how we ordered themso that it kind of made sense or
it should make sense to ourlisteners that listen into that
kind of trio of instructionalpractices.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Yeah, absolutely, and
we also have our guests as well
.
We can't ignore our wonderfulguests that we have on as well.
We've got a great chat thereabout tutoring and how tutoring
fits inside the world ofeducation.
That was an interestingconversation.
(05:09):
I'm also really looking forwardto people listening into our
conversation about theexperiences of a former teacher
and what it's like looking backat her time in teaching versus
where she is and what she'sdoing now.
So I think that's a reallyinteresting one to listen into.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
Yeah, we've got a
couple that are, I mean, I feel
like we often talk about skilldevelopment, which is kind of in
that SEL realm, but I'm lookingforward to sharing the episodes
about leading with love andjust being human.
And so we've got a couple ofepisodes with a couple of guests
(05:51):
who just are really exemplified, just that human aspect of
education which can get lostpretty easily when we're just
shuffling about.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
but just so important
.
Yeah, yeah, and it keeps comingback.
It's a recurring theme that wekeep coming back to, with our
guests as well, for sure.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
Yeah, yeah.
I mean that's not all we'retalking about this season, but
it's a snapshot for ourlisteners.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
Absolutely.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
And so it'll be
exciting to see which episodes
gravitate to people and what wehear from people about the
episodes and what we hear frompeople about the episodes, and
so we're also interested in.
You know, if you want to be aguest on the podcast or if you
want to hear someone, you canmake a recommendation.
So you can always reach out tous and let us know if you want
(06:46):
to hear someone or chat with us.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
Or if you have an
idea for a topic, we would love
to hear that as well.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
For sure we would
love that.
Well, I'm looking forward toseason four, Christine.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
I'm very excited.
I can't wait to see howeveryone responds Me too.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
