SPEAKER_01 (00:00):
When we first
started coaching coaches, we
thought we were just going tohelp them help other people.
But what we didn't expect washow much we were going to learn
from watching coaches coach.
SPEAKER_00 (00:10):
Over the years,
we've coached, trained, and
certified hundreds of coaches.
And along the way, we've seenwhat works, what doesn't work,
and what really helps coachesfind their confidence and make a
bigger impact.
SPEAKER_01 (00:23):
So we created this
series to share the 10 biggest
lessons that we've learned fromcoaching coaches.
Lessons that might save youyears of trial and error.
SPEAKER_00 (00:33):
These aren't tips or
tricks, these are the truths
about what it really takes togrow into the kind of coach
people trust, remember, andshare with others.
SPEAKER_01 (00:43):
Ready to hear the
first one?
Let's dive in.
SPEAKER_00 (00:45):
When coaches first
join us, we see this all the
time.
They hesitate to book that firstcall, overthink what they're
going to say, and wait untilthey feel ready.
But does confidence ever reallyshow up on its own?
SPEAKER_01 (00:58):
No.
And that's really the firstthing that we learned.
Confidence grows because youstart, not before it.
And we've seen this play outwith so many coaches.
The moment they take their firststep, though, everything
changes.
So confidence is a result ofdoing the reps, not a
prerequisite.
I want you to think aboutsomething that maybe you started
or tried for the first time.
(01:18):
You didn't have all the answers.
You probably weren't fullyconfident that you knew what to
do, but you got started anyway.
And that's where confidence camefrom.
But I also want to remind youthat you have nerves because you
care.
And when you feel those nervesand take action anyway, that's
what really builds courage.
Just know that the mostsuccessful coaches, the people
(01:39):
that you might look up to, gotstarted, felt scared, and did it
anyway.
That's why today's quote isconfidence comes after action,
not before.
SPEAKER_00 (01:49):
So why do you think
so many coaches wait for
confidence?
SPEAKER_01 (01:52):
Really, it's how our
brain works.
It's trying to keep us safe.
It doesn't want us to doanything new or put ourselves
out there.
But just like with coaching, when we understand that that's
what it's trying to do, we canmake a different decision and do
it anyway.
SPEAKER_00 (02:06):
Have you actually
seen coaches gain confidence
just by starting?
SPEAKER_01 (02:10):
All the time.
I've seen so many times actuallythat when we get people to start
getting on practice calls andputting themselves out there,
they actually find that peoplewere out there waiting for them
to announce that they were acoach.
SPEAKER_00 (02:22):
What changes inside
a coach once they see that first
win?
SPEAKER_01 (02:25):
Yeah, we talk about
this in the certification as
creating internal momentum.
So the inside always needs tochange before the outside can
change.
And when you start to experiencethis internal momentum and see
other people who are creatingit, it's contagious.
And the more you grow thatinternal momentum, the more that
the external momentum starts tocatch up.
Now, I want to give you anexample.
So we have a coach inside of ourcertification, a really powerful
(02:48):
coach.
She came to us back when she wasworking on her health and
fitness nutrition certification.
Now, if you talk to her, whenshe first joined us, her
confidence was pretty low.
But I saw some amazing potentialinside of her.
So she joined the certification, started to coach herself,
started to put it out there tothe rest of the world, even when
she was scared.
And now people are coming up toher, asking her if she can
actually help coach the peoplethat they're leading.
(03:10):
I actually see this quite a bit, where somebody already has some
expertise and they add coachingon top of it.
And it helps create a snowballof confidence and momentum that
transfers through everythingthat they touch.
And it all starts by taking thatmessy action scared.
Now, this is why in ourcertification we get our coaches
to start coaching ASAP.
We make sure that they buildconfidence through live
(03:32):
practice, feedback, andcommunity, not just learning
theory.
Now, once you lean into yourconfidence and start taking
action, you have to avoid one ofthe biggest mistakes that new
coaches make that actually makesthem get stuck.
And we'll share that lesson withyou in episode number two.
