Ever wonder what truly separates exceptional coaches from those who merely get by? The answer lies not in any single technique or certification, but in an unwavering commitment to continuous growth.

Throughout my 12-year coaching journey, I've witnessed a concerning pattern: promising coaches who invest deeply in their development for a few years before hitting a plateau. This stagnation doesn't just limit their toolkit—it actively drains their energy and diminishes their capacity to serve clients effectively. The moment you believe you've "arrived" as a coach is precisely when your impact begins to wane.

The most transformative mindset shift happens when you embrace the reality that mastery is not a destination but a perpetual journey. Great coaches remain perpetually curious, exploring diverse modalities and perspectives—even those that challenge their established practices. They strategically identify specific skills to develop rather than consuming information haphazardly. The powerful question "I am committed to getting better at _____" creates the focus needed to bridge the gap between current capabilities and desired impact.

Beyond individual learning, exceptional coaches surround themselves with growth-oriented communities featuring diverse strengths and perspectives. They deliberately step into uncomfortable environments where they aren't the most knowledgeable person in the room. This commitment to accountability within diverse circles catalyzes exponential growth through cross-pollination of ideas and approaches.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
So how can I continuously improve my coaching
skills?

Speaker 2 (00:04):
I love this question because here's one of those
things where I feel like I cantalk about this forever, because
this is what separates goodfrom great coaches.
Over the 12 years of being acoach, I have seen so many
people lean in, develop so manyskills in a year, two years,
three years, five years, andthen stop learning and because
of that, not only does theirenergy go down, their ways of
helping clients goes down too.

(00:25):
It's one of those things where,if you stop practicing it and
you're not learning and growing, your energy kind of like gets
depleted and really you don'thave any of the new tools or
things that you could havelearned to make you an even more
powerful coach.
So when I think about, like allthe ways that I've learned how
to coach, so I've learned tocoach.
When it comes to, like, hiringmentors to help teach me some of
their philosophies, I'velearned in so many different

(00:45):
masterminds and trainingprograms.
I've gone through courses andI've listened to podcasts.
I mean right now I have on mypodcast like three or four
different coaching podcasts thatshare different ways, which
some of them go against what weteach inside of our programs
right, but I always want to beable to be open to everything,
like I'm not afraid of learningsomebody else's modality because
it's going to make me better atwhat it is that I do.

(01:06):
Of course, we want to thinkabout the whole tactics, mindset
and accountability.
These are the three things thatwe always talk about, right,
because they're all so powerful.
And the mindset is I'm nevergoing to get to the end of my
journey where I can't learnanything else.
There's always people out there, there's always things that I
can learn and develop and teachand train and help other people,
because there isn't one right, best, only tool ever.

(01:28):
And so when you're hungry togrow, like that, and you want to
keep going and going going, you're going to become the best
in the world at what you do,because there's never a hey,
I've reached my pinnacle, let mejust go out and just start
talking to people.
Right, I hope that you'retalking to people in between
there and getting people toactually coach, but at the same
time, you're always wanting toget better at your craft, right,
and the better you get at it,the more time that goes by

(01:49):
because you're like learning andgrowing, you're going to make
yourself kind of like anindispensable person, right?
That's the mindset when itcomes to the tactics is I like
to think about this in terms of,like, different types of
modalities that I like to leaninto, to continue to grow Like I
like to lean into, to continueto grow Like.
I love podcasts, but I don'tjust listen to podcasts.
I love books, but I don't justread books.
I'm the kind of person where Ilike to find content from all

(02:10):
over and really focus on likeone or two things and then, once
I've completed that, ask myselfbecause I like to reflect how
can I implement this into thethings that I'm teaching and
into the clients that I actuallyhelp?
And then I ask myself what'sthe next thing that I need to
learn?
And sometimes it's based off ofmy clients are going through
right Some of the strugglesthey're going through that maybe
the 17 other tools that I havereally don't work so well and I

(02:31):
want to find a new tool for them, and so I'm constantly wanting
to learn and develop indifferent ways.
Does that make sense?

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Yes, it does, and I think there's one thing that I
want to point out is that youwant to laser focus on what it
is that you're learning, andthat it should apply to what
you're wanting to learn andwhere you're wanting to grow.
A lot of us are lifelonglearners, right, and we love to
consume podcasts, we love toread books and everything, but
sometimes it can get reallyconvoluted and we're just like

(02:59):
just listening or just readingjust for the sake of it.
So we do want to identify whatis it that I want to learn next,
right, and once you identifythat, then you find the
resources that will help youwith that.
You find the tools that aregoing to help you with that, so
you can be a little bit morefocused on what it is that
you're learning, so you're notspurning yourself too thin too.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
That's such an important point.
As a coach, you have the powerto help your clients transform,
but what if you could feel evenmore confident in your ability
to guide them to even moreamazing results?
If you're ready to dive intoyour full potential and make a
bigger impact, I'd love tosupport you In a free coaching
call with me.
We'll explore how to boost yourconfidence, create even more

(03:41):
value and results for yourclients and grow your business
in alignment with your goals.
Let's build a strategy togetherto help take your coaching
business to the next level.

The link is below and let's getright back into the show.
We have a book club for coaches.
Right, it's a free book club.
We'll leave it inside of thelink for you guys if you don't
have it, but it is where we havelike 4,000 coaches who are

(04:03):
different types of modalities, different types of teaching
styles.
Some of them are mentors, someof them are coaches, like, they
help coach people from all over.
Everybody in that group doesn'tneed to learn the same thing
right now, and so when we puttogether even the book club,
right, we have a book of themonth that we kind of like talk
about.
We put it out there and I liketake surveys to see where people

(04:24):
are.
I'm not going to be able topick a book that's going to hit
everybody, and so one of thesethings is, sometimes, when we
create the book club, we're evenlike hey guys, by the way, if
this doesn't like align withwhere you need to grow, please
don't read it.
I don't want you to think that, because you're in this book
club, that you have to read thisexact book.
You don't.
You just need to find what youneed to learn.
Because when you think about, like, where it is that you want

(04:46):
to be and where you are rightnow in your journey, right,
there's a gap, right, and thatgap is really what you have to
fill, and you start that byanswering this question.
I am committed to gettingbetter at blink.
So what is the blink that'sgoing to help you go from where
you are to where you want to beNow?
It's not just one skill.
I want to call it to that too, because, like, when people hear

(05:07):
us talking, they hear that howlife coaching really changed the
game for me, and like I had toput it on a credit card $18,000
on a credit card and then, 42days after that, I'd already
paid it off, and now it'ssomething that keeps giving me
over and over and over again.
But they don't hear about the72 other skills that I had to
learn in order to get there.
So, just thinking about, like, what is the skill that I need to
learn that can help me fillthis gap right?

(05:28):
I am committed to gettingbetter at blank.
Then go all in, devour whateveryou can to get better at that
thing, and then the next timeyou sit down and you do your
goals, then you can ask yourselfwhat's the next thing for me to
lean into, right, such apowerful thing.
Last thing is let's talk aboutaccountability.
Accountability is the glue thatalways pulls everything together

(05:49):
, right?
I like to think about, in thisrespect, accountability a little
different.
I don't want to be in a group ofpeople who are all like at the
same level of growth.
I want to be in a group ofpeople where they're learning
different things, they havedifferent strengths and they're
going to be able to pour into mewhere I need the most help,
right?
I mean, this is why we puttogether a coach accelerator,
because we want to create anenvironment where coaches from
all over can lean in and becomemore confident, develop more

(06:10):
skills and know that they'regoing to be able to help their
clients in any situation thatclient brings them right, and by
doing that you're in anenvironment where a bunch of
people have a bunch of differentskills and strategies and
strengths you're going to beable to collectively grow like
even more exponential.
So I would encourage you tofind people outside of your
network, to find people whomaybe are a few steps ahead of
you, and step into a room thatfeels totally uncomfortable,

(06:33):
because that is exactly the roomthat you need to be in.
