Speaker 0 (00:00):
So many coaches, especially new ones, feel like
they have to get it right to beeffective.
What do you think is theproblem with that?
That belief is the fastest wayto disconnect from your client
your gift and your growth.
Coaching isn't about deliveringthe perfect question, the
perfect answer or the perfectfeedback.
It's about being fully presentwith your client so that you can

(00:22):
help them explore what isreally going on.
And perfectionism that actuallykills your presence, because in
that moment you're actuallystuck in your head and not
focused on the human that is infront of you.
The real truth is, coaches getbetter by coaching, not by being
flawless.
So many times I've personallylearned how to coach better by

(00:44):
actually doing it wrong.
I mean, many of the things thatI help people with are things
that I used to struggle with aswell, and if you're constantly
wanting to be perfect, you'renever going to be doing the
thing you need to do most, whichis just coaching, and that's
why today's truth is perfectioncan make you a worse coach.
Growth comes from showing upreal, not perfect.
So in this truth, let'sremember that you don't need to

(01:07):
be perfect, you need to bepresent.
That's where the power reallyis.
What does perfection look likein coaching?
How does it sneak in?
Perfection could look likewhat's the best question that I
can ask right now?
Or I wonder what they're goingto think if I ask them this.
Instead of you focusing on yourclient and what they're saying,
what their body language istrying to tell you, you're
focused and stuck in your headthinking about all the ways that

(01:29):
you need to show up perfectly.
One of the things that ourclients ask us all the time is
how do I know what's the right, best question to ask?
And I always tell them.
Your client will tell you, butyou have to be present with them
and listen to them fully untilthey're finished.
Don't be thinking about whatthe next question is going to be
, the next path that you'regoing to take them down, or the
next skill you're going to use.
Wait for them to be finishedand be fully present with them

(01:52):
and you will know when you getto the end.
All else fails.
You just get curious and ask anadditional question to find out
more information.
So if you find yourself in yourhead spinning over and over and
over while there's a client infront of you, you really need to
take a step back and rememberthat it's not about you, it's
about them.
Now, this is why our coachingcertification actually creates a

(02:13):
coaching lab where you actuallydo this live, because this
isn't one of those skills that'slike really easy to learn or
that it's going to just starthappening automatically.
You need to be able to practiceit and get some feedback back
and forth to see when youaccidentally go into this,
because the way our brain iswired it's going to
unconsciously get us to do that.
We just have to be able torecognize it and to do that it

(02:35):
takes practice and feedback fromothers.
So today was truth number four, and if you haven't seen truth
number three, definitely go backand watch it.
It's all about why noticing, not knowing, is the key to
coaching, and today's truth tiesright into that.
But it also leads us into whatwe're unpacking next, because
even when you drop the need tobe perfect, there's another trap
that can sneak in and that'strying to prove yourself, trying

(02:58):
to perform your way intoconfidence and trying to make
the next session about how wellyou're doing.
And in truth number five, we'regoing to break that right open
and why.
Real coaching isn't about you.
It's about this.
