Ever wonder why some coaches still lack confidence despite consuming endless trainings, videos, and courses? The answer is deceptively simple yet profound – confidence isn't built through passive learning but through active application.

We dive deep into the fundamental truth that coaching confidence comes from doing, not just knowing. Real growth happens when you take action, reflect on your experience, and incorporate feedback to elevate your practice. This cycle of practice, reflection, and improvement creates the foundation for authentic coaching confidence that no course alone can provide.

Our discussion explores the critical distinction between confidence and self-confidence. While confidence comes from previous experience, self-confidence emerges when you trust yourself regardless of external validation. When you embrace the mindset that every coaching session leads to either success or valuable learning, you'll find the courage to take "messy action" despite uncertainty.

We also examine why many coaches hesitate to take action in the first place. Your brain naturally tries to protect you from discomfort, making it essential to develop mind management skills that allow you to push beyond your comfort zone. This same skill becomes invaluable when helping clients navigate their own resistance to change.

Whether you're a new coach seeking initial confidence or an experienced practitioner looking to reach new levels of mastery, this episode provides practical insights for your development journey. Remember: you don't get better by consuming – you get better by acting, reflecting, and continuously elevating your coaching practice.

Speaker 0 (00:00):
There are so many coaches who watch videos, do
trainings, buy courses and theystill don't feel confident.
Why do you think that is?
That's because confidence isn'tjust about learning.
It's about taking action on thethings that you do know.
You only get real confidencefrom actually doing so.
You can't get fully confidentjust by knowing.
You become fully confident bycoaching.

(00:22):
But it's not only just bycoaching.
It's by reflecting, gettingfeedback and elevating your
coaching to the next level.
So practicing is key, but alsogetting some reflection time,
feedback and taking yourcoaching to the next level.
That's what will help you buildtrue confidence.

(00:43):
Remember that coaching is askill and, just like any other
skill, it builds throughrepetition, reflection and
feedback.
Which is why today's quote isyou don't get better by
consuming.
You get better by acting.
People say just take messyaction.
But what do you think stopspeople from doing that?
Really?
It's their brain, like learninghow to manage their mind.
Our brain's going to try andconvince us to not take action,

(01:03):
to not get uncomfortable, because it's there to help keep
you safe, and so being able tomanage your mind will help you
take that uncomfortable action, because in reality, that's what
we need to do to grow theconfidence?
How did you build confidence inthe beginning?
I remember when I went throughmy certification, my instructor
talked about the differencebetween confidence and
self-confidence.
Confidence is something thatyou have based off of something

(01:23):
you've done before.
Like if you're trying to pour aglass of water and you've done
it a million times, you'repretty confident that you're not
going to spill it.
But if you're talking aboutself-confidence, self-confidence
comes when you have fullconfidence in yourself, despite
any outside evidence.
That is possible, knowing thatonly two outcomes could happen
Either number one you'll do itright or number two you'll learn
.
And when you can lean intoself-confidence, which is just

(01:46):
knowing, you're gonna be able tofigure it out.
Whether I do it right or wrong,it's going to teach me a
valuable lesson of what to keepdoing or not doing.
That is how you take that messyaction in the beginning.
So what's the difference betweengetting reps and winging it?
Yeah, great question.
So when I think about wingingit, it's just going into a
session having no idea whereyou're going and then just
moving on to the next sessionwithout taking the time to get

(02:07):
feedback, to elevate what youdid, find out what you did well
and what you would improve.
When I talk about getting reps,it's not only repetitions, but
it's slowing down afterwards, getting some feedback from other
people, thinking about how wecould do it better next time and
implementing that into yoursystem so you can continue to
grow as a coach this time andimplementing that into your

(02:28):
system so you can continue togrow as a coach.
This is something that's verykey, not only through the
certification I went through, but through our certification as
well, and that is making surethat you have some type of way
of getting feedback while you'regrowing.
Sometimes we can do things thewrong way and if we don't take
that time to reflect and getfeedback, we keep doing it that
way.
But as long as we're in anenvironment that can provide us
with that feedback and help usimprove, that's where everybody
gets to improve, because notonly are you improving through
your own personal actions, butthe actions of the people in the

(02:49):
group with you.
So if you've gotten to thispoint and you're looking to be
able to develop as a fullyconfident and self-confident
coach, reach out and let's chat.
And if you missed truth numberfive, we talked about why
coaching isn't about you.
It's about being fully presentwith your client, and once you
understand that, what do you dowith that?
That's what we talked abouttoday.
You get in the arena, you coachand you take action and you get

(03:13):
feedback.
Now, in truth number seven,we're going to answer a question
that so many coaches have askedus, and sometimes they're even
a little afraid asking it, andthat's do I need a certification
to coach?
The answer might surprise you,but it's also not black and
white either.
So we'll see you in truthnumber seven.
