Hello everyone, and welcome toanother episode of the Modern
(01:11):
Zen Collective Podcast.
Lizzie here with Nikki, andtoday we're going to be doing
our first spiritual Q&A session.
So before we get into it, wejust want to take a moment, just
to ground and be present andjust focus our energy, our
(01:32):
intention together, both of usalong with you.
So take a moment.
If you're able to close youreyes, go ahead and do so, or
allows your gaze to soften andbegin to deepen your breath,
allowing your inhales andexhales to get longer and deeper
(01:57):
.
Notice the sensations in thebody as you breathe, where you
feel your body expand, where youfeel it contract, noticing any
(02:17):
points of tension, and allowyourself to just slowly let that
tension go with every exhale, letting yourself relax just a
little bit more with everyinhale and every exhale.
(02:38):
Whenever you feel complete, youcan open your eyes, allow your
(03:01):
breath to return to normal andjust notice how you're feeling.
And today we're going to bediving into a question.
I feel like we get asked allthe time.
Actually, I also thought ofthis the other day in the car.
(03:22):
This is why Nikki and I aredoing this one, because I was
like I randomly had thisquestion and then it popped up
between us as well.
But it's like what does beingin alignment actually feel like?
Alignment is the new buzzword.
It used to be manifestation andnow it's alignment in the
spiritual community.
And I'm like what the fuck isalignment actually?
Why do we keep throwing thisword around Alignment, alignment
.
And everyone's like yeah, yeah, alignment, alignment.
But then I sat there and saidwhat does that even actually
mean?
Do we ever even talk about whatthat actually means?
(03:44):
And so today it's like we justwant to demystify this beautiful
word alignment that we throwaround everywhere.
It's not just about success orease.
It's really about deep innerknowing yourself and like really
(04:04):
how you move and how you flowand how you work the best.
How do you move through lifethe best for yourself?
And it's just so interestingbecause it can change at
different times, and Nikki and Iwere literally just talking
about how, as we've movedthrough this past year, at
(04:26):
different times of the year,we've been able to give more or
less to different areas of lifeand the way that we spend that
time that we're able to give.
It has to be aligned, it has tobe in flow or nothing is moving
(04:47):
forward, and when we have suchlittle time, it's so important
to spend it in the places thatare the best places for us in
this moment.
So, nikki, can you share, Idon't know, maybe something
recent, maybe something in thepast few years, something that
really sticks out to you on,when alignment has felt
(05:09):
different to you in like oneperiod of your life versus
another?
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Yeah.
One that stands out to me iswe've talked about this a lot in
corporate and how I alwayswanted to climb the corporate
ladder, get to a VP role, corneroffice, all of the things you
know growing and evolving, etcetera and I was at the director
level just realizing do I evenlike what I'm doing?
(05:38):
I'm going and I'm pushing and Ifeel that I'm good at what I'm
doing.
I feel that there are areas Icould be better at what I'm
doing and I started to have thisreflection when I was the head
of people and culture at acompany that there is someone
out there that is far bettersuited for this role, who is
going to get ignited by it andhas strengths that are better at
(06:01):
this particular type of workthat I have.
So I took inventory of I reallyenjoy working with people.
I love being a leader.
I love connecting people withthe right role for themselves.
I love holding space.
I love having conversations.
I don't particularly like thelegal side of things.
I don't like the mounds ofpaperwork.
(06:23):
I don't like the red tape.
I don't like the bureaucracy.
I don't like that it takes sixto eight months to get something
done sometimes and I'm notthrowing shade on anyone.
I'm just saying some peopleoperate and really enjoy that.
So I felt out of alignment atthat threshold of 2021 when I
decided to leave corporatebecause I felt that I wasn't
(06:47):
actually living with to the bestof my abilities for my career.
Like that's one part of itwhere I didn't feel really that
I was doing the company I waswith the best because I wasn't
showing up as who they actuallyneeded for the role and I was
holding space for someone whocould be in alignment being in
(07:07):
that role.
And then for me personally, Irealized what I enjoyed and
didn't enjoy, what I was good atand not particularly good at
and decided to remove myselffrom that role to find I didn't
know what it was, but find myalignment on a career path.
My alignment on a career pathand along the same timeline, I
(07:30):
would say, you know, rightaround 2020, I started working
with coaches a little bit moreone-on-one and during that time
I found really the spiritualalignment path and I found the
deep connection of you know, having the path laid out in
front of you, and ease andmanifestations and you know
fluidity and all of thesebuzzwords, et cetera, truly come
(07:50):
from, I personally believe, from being alignment with who
your soul came here to be and alot of who of us being here on
earth is, you know, pulling thelayers and getting back to who
we truly are and what's thatauthentic piece of us?
And where are we wearing masks?
Where do we have stories thatwere told to us when we were
younger that we're keeping withus that aren't actually who we
(08:11):
are?
How can we be individual?
So you know, my path during thatI think they cross over because
it was for my career and thenit was for the spiritual aspect
was to really find what isalignment for me.
And it's interesting becausefor me I realized that as I was
(08:33):
going through work with coachesand healers and having
introspection and shadow work, realizing how I have a huge
people-pleasing wound and withthat I had a proclivity to want
to make people happy, and it wasa lot at my expense and through
(08:53):
growing and evolving and youknow boundaries and finding that
I feel much more at peace andmuch more aligned.
Also, I think it's age andwisdom.
As I've gotten older, I feelthat I can have boundaries and
be direct, et cetera, a loteasier than I was when I
personally was younger.
But those are, for me, the waysthat I saw alignment.
(09:19):
But then I also think ways inlife, like this buzzword that's
out there, what does it actuallymean Like?
Does it mean spirituality?
Does it mean career?
Does it mean both?
Does it you know, and you might?
There's days where you won'tfeel aligned right.
There's days where you knowLizzie and I were both sick the
last two months, so there's daysand weeks where you're going to
(09:42):
feel sick.
You're not going to be inalignment when you're sick,
really Like you're going to feeloff kilter.
So I guess, lizzie, what do youthink are you know practical
ways to recognize and if you'rein alignment or if you're not,
and what do you think about kindof that day to day aspect?
Speaker 2 (09:57):
of it.
Well, I think it doesn't meanthat everything's always going
to be easy or that everything'shunky-dory every single day of
our lives.
That's just not life.
That's not why we came to thisearth.
You can't learn withoutstruggle.
You can't learn without thelight and the dark.
(10:19):
So alignment doesn't meaneverything's always going to be
easy.
I think, like what Nikki'stalking about, finding that
version of ourselves who weauthentically are, and trying to
make decisions from that pointof view, from synchronicity,
from flow, like even when thingsare hard.
(10:41):
Really going back to how do Ioperate?
How do I personally need thingsto move so that I can move
through them in a quicker wayand I think a lot of that has to
do with the body.
Like, where I always start iswith the body.
I think that is the easiest wayto understand these, like more
(11:03):
spiritual, esoteric practicesand principles, is to start with
how it actually feels in ourbody, and I think alignment
feels like energy.
Alignment feels likeinspiration, lightness.
It feels like ease, no struggle.
It feels like less resistance, less tension, more connection to
(11:29):
the body, more connection tothe self, and I think that's
really what it feels like to bein alignment.
So I would just want to say, really, if you're questioning,
is this quote, unquote, alignedto me?
Drop into the body and askyourself how does your body
(11:51):
react when you ask the question.
How do you feel?
Do you feel more tense?
Do you feel less tense?
Do you feel lighter?
Do you feel heavier?
Do you feel more connected?
Do you feel less connected?
And I think that's a reallygood way to start to develop
that conversation between yourintuition and yourself is
(12:13):
through the body and tounderstand how it speaks to you
on a mental way is to start withthe body so that we can
mentally understand, becausethen when we can connect the
physical and the mental and theemotional, there's like so much
belief and faith and trust wehave in things when we connect
those three.
So start with the body, then tothe mental, the understanding,
(12:37):
and then connect the feelingsand the emotional with all of
that together and I think that'swhen we can develop like a deep
trust in our instincts and inour inner knowing of if
something is in alignment withus.
So it feels so good to haveclarity.
It's exciting to see things movemore quickly, more easily, move
(13:03):
with the momentum, with theflow of energy, instead of
having to push and push and pushand fight and try to force
things, you know, like the roundpeg into the square hole, that
whole forcing thing, that's nota thing.
When you're in alignment, thatstuff pops up and it's you're so
(13:24):
clear on what things feel rightto you and what don't, because
you've been practicing thatyou're able to say no and let
that opportunity move forward togo to somebody else that it
actually is more suited for inthis lifetime, so that you can
continue to move how you moveand then say yes to the things
that do feel really good.
(13:45):
And I think the biggest thingis that once you start to make
these decisions and you start tochoose things that do feel good
to you in your body, that youdo do with ease, that you have
strength behind that, you are inalignment with more.
Things start showing up, thingsstart happening quicker
(14:07):
Synchronicities.
You know things like we'vetalked about, like all of a
sudden you think of somethingand then it happens.
Or my husband wants customersout of state and then all of a
sudden you think of somethingand then it happens.
Or my husband wants customersout of state and then all of a
sudden he gets three customersout of state in a week, like who
said you had to get onecustomer a month.
You know, all of a sudden heasked for it and he's taking
action, aligned, inspired action, something that is actually in
(14:31):
a place that is right for him inthis moment.
And the universe is showing himlike yes, you're on the right
path.
Here's three.
You wanted one, you wanted somebusiness.
Here's hundreds of thousands ofdollars if you continue to move
and make the right decisionswith the right people.
So it's really interesting whenyou come into alignment and you
(14:52):
choose to make decisions withintentionality and alignment
intentionality of being inalignment more things start to
happen and you feel moreconnected.
You feel more in flow, you feelmore like you're being
supported by the universe andhaving this deep faith and deep
trust and deep knowing, deeppeace that you will always be
(15:17):
taking care of when you makedecisions in alignment.
It's so crazy to experience itand now to watch.
I'm literally watching myhusband experience it right now
and every day I'm constantlylike, hey, babe, thank the
universe, thank you universe.
Hey, don't you remember whenyou asked for this about two?
Hey, don't you remember whenyou asked for this about two
weeks ago?
Do you remember when you toldme that you wanted this.
(15:38):
Here it is.
Say thank you, say thank you,and just like taking a moment to
recognize that it's happening, because I think a lot of times
we ask for things and then wedon't recognize that we were
given that thing that we askedfor.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
Yeah, it's because
we're moving so fast we might
not realize that we're receivingit, or we might have that human
default of looking at.
You know the problem or thestrain, or you know what's
coming in with this, et cetera.
And you know you want to lookat and see where you feel out of
(16:15):
alignment.
Common indicators are feelingdrained, frustrated, stuck,
overthinking decisions, secondguessing, procrastinating things
, feel forced, uphill battle, disconnection from your
intuition or creative flow, likethose are all indicators of
having that sticky energy thatyou're not in alignment.
(16:36):
So take inventory when youstart to get these blessings
that you asked for.
You know having gratitude forthem, like how beautiful it is
that I receive this.
And you know, with morecustomers for your husband,
there's going to be morepaperwork, there's going to be
more travel, there's going to bemore questions.
There's going to be morepaperwork, there's going to be
more travel, there's going to bemore questions, there's going
(16:56):
to be more hands-on.
Yes, all of these things happenand that's going to be such a
blessing that more things happen.
And it's, you know, our ego,our mind, that wants to keep us
safe.
You know, feels threatened byexpansion, so we get to make the
expansion feel commonplace.
That's why there's so much inthe manifestation community
(17:17):
about feeling the energy of whoyou want to be so that it comes
into your reality, so it becomesand feels safe inside your
nervous system, with your mind,et cetera.
Because if you do expand andyou receive all of these new
clients, your ego might want tokeep you safe and might want to
say, oh no, that's a lot ofpaperwork, this, this, that,
(17:37):
this, that procrastination, don't return that call, don't do
this, don't do that.
Just, you know hurt, you knowlike it's okay, like they'll
understand, you're super busy,so we can make all these excuses
to not push ourselves throughthat threshold for that blessing
that's coming into us.
So you know there's a fine lineof feeling where you're out of
alignment and feeling where youare.
(17:57):
You know avoiding pushing andstepping not even pushing, I
don't like that word steppinginto your highest expansion.
And you know realizing theshift, like realizing your
resistance versus your surrenderand, like Lizzie said, checking
in with your body.
And you know looking at andfeeling the synchronicities
(18:19):
Thinking of someone having themcall, seeing angel numbers pop
up here and there, hearing asong that has words that you
know, you start to connect withthe words for some reason and
you realize the words aretelling you a message like
little things, that everythingis energy and everything is
cyclical and what goes out comesback and you really get to see
(18:43):
the universe speaking back toyou.
When you start to step intothis aligned state and feeling
grounded and feeling at peaceand trusting, you can just make
the decision of I want threecustomers out of state and feel
that in your heart and know thatfeels aligned and trust that
(19:06):
it's coming and when it doescome, take the actionable steps
to get there from an alignedplace, not from a place of fear.
So, with all of this, we'd loveto talk to you about some
practices for how to tune backin, realign with yourself and
just feel at ease in your body, feel that alignment.
(19:30):
So something that works for me,also being a yoga teacher, but
doing yoga is something that Ifeel very connected with my body
.
I feel I move the energy around.
Even if you don't do a physicalpractice that feels like yoga
or a workout or something likethat taking a walk, moving our
(19:51):
energy around.
That helps you to start to feelmore in tune with your body and
it talking to you.
Having also meditationMeditation is something that's
been a big part of my practice,of my morning routine, my
evening routine, when I channel, when I do Reiki for clients,
meditating and meditation issomething that can clear the
(20:16):
clutter around us because it's.
You know, I had a coach oncetell me we think we're so
important, we're so busy, wecan't take five minutes to
meditate, we're so busy.
The world's going to end if weclose our mind out for five
minutes.
And it's so true, because wethink there's not enough hours
in the day to get everythingdone.
But I truly believe when youmeditate you expand energy.
(20:39):
I've realized it firsthand.
I have had times where I losemy practice and I don't meditate
, and when I get back on mypractice, I feel time expanded,
I feel there's more time to getplaces, more time to get things
done, etc.
So those are some that work forme.
Lizzie, I know you are big onbreath work too.
What do you think are somegrounding rituals that you would
(21:00):
do or suggest?
Speaker 2 (21:02):
Yeah, breath work
absolutely.
And that's just as simple aslike a 4-4.
You can inhale for 4 and exhalefor 4.
And just that practice ofbalancing the breath, having the
inhale match the exhale, balances the nervous system and
brings you back to like ahomeostasis place.
So if you're a little bit crazy, it brings you down, if you're
(21:23):
a little bit down, it brings youup.
So really, just a four, fourbalance breath is a really great
way to ground.
Also, being outside barefoot Ilove being outside barefoot or
laying in the grass.
I love to lay in the grass.
I've been teaching my son tolay in the grass and look up at
the trees and he'll just go inpeople's yards and lay in their
(21:43):
yards.
Now he wants me to come laynext to him.
I'm like, okay, they're goingto be like who are these random
people laying in our front yard?
But you know what?
Whatever.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
You know kids.
Speaker 2 (21:57):
Yeah it's wonderful,
the freedom they have.
So I love that.
But I definitely I'm.
I lean towards the breath work,I lean towards the being
outside and I lean towards thegratitude for what has happened
in this day.
So I think it's easy to findthings to be grateful for when
(22:19):
you just think about your daythat you've been through.
So I think that's a really goodway to ground and also heighten
your energy, manifestationenergy by putting more gratitude
out into the world.
So I, like those things arereally my go-tos for grounding.
But I think one of the thingsthat's been so great and one of
(22:41):
the things that I've beenpracticing a lot lately is
saying no, but not just sayingno from the jump, but it's what
have I been doing in my lifethat no longer excites me?
When is it time to pivot orshift things?
I might still want things, butfor me, one really good example
(23:05):
of that is with my service.
I have been on the board ofdirectors for the Parks and
Recreation Board for the city ofBenbrook for eight years and I
was the chairperson for four, and I wasn't excited anymore
about going to the meetings.
And so you might think well, you've been on this board for
(23:26):
eight years.
You're like the head honcho, you're running meetings.
Why would you step away fromsomething like that?
But the thing is is that it waswhen I saw it on my calendar.
I was like, oh no, I have thatmeeting tonight.
I have to go to that, oh well, you know.
And so it was time that thosefeelings like I'm saying when
(23:46):
you actually think and feel intothe body, like those feelings,
were showing me that it's timeto let this go.
It's time to let, like Nikkisaid, someone with fresh energy,
someone with excitement, stepinto these roles, move this
forward and allow me to stepaway and create some space in my
life for something that feelsbetter.
It can still be a board ofdirector position, but it could
(24:08):
be with a nonprofit.
That I'm really excited aboutat this time, but if I don't
create the space for it, I won'tbe able to say yes when that
opportunity does come into myrealm.
Speaker 1 (24:19):
Yeah, for sure,
absolutely.
And you know, often we can feelwe, you know, need to hold on
for whatever reason, to notdisappoint someone or because we
made a commitment, etc.
But it's really, you know, recognizing when it's time to
pivot or shift and making thatdecision and following through
(24:43):
with it.
Because there's also the energyof living in that limbo which
can also be energeticallydraining, where you feel, okay,
I'm going to leave here, this isdone, but I haven't
communicated it to anyone.
So I'm in this limbo where myenergy feels pulled in two
directions and I haven'tactually made a very concrete
(25:06):
decision to move the energyforward.
So some tips too, too, that youcan do in terms of your own
exploration of this journalprompt.
So writing in a journal whatfeels easy and exciting right
now and what feels like astruggle, maybe making two
columns, one on the left side, one on the right side, very Ross
(25:30):
and Rachel, and when he datedanother girl and he made the pro
con list, but very, very muchwhat's exciting now, what feels
like a struggle, and writethings down.
You can also do a check-in.
Ask yourself am I choosing thisout of fear or alignment when
you are deciding for something,to either shift the energy or
(25:51):
stay in a space, like Lizziesaid when she was working there
for eight years.
If she continued and committedto another year, is that out of
fear or does she feel aligned?
So checking in with yourselffor that as well.
And understand the universe isalways speaking to you.
Ancestors also are alwaysspeaking to you.
If you have loved ones thathave passed guiding you and your
(26:13):
guides are guiding you, there'sso much support that we have
from unconditional love on theother side.
So some signs, you knowsynchronicities we've talked
about those already having thatgut feeling, that heart-centered
feeling, having that ping, thatidea to you know do something.
It might not make any sense inyour head right now, but you
(26:34):
know, for some reason you'resupposed to start taking yoga at
this yoga studio and it mightnot present itself as to why for
three, four or five months, orit might present itself quick,
but you followed that ping.
And once you start going ordoing whatever it might be, you
start to feel that energy evenmore because you followed the
ping.
And when the universe isnudging you also for unexpected
(26:56):
opportunities, you could bereceiving a call or a text or an
email and someone might say, hey, I remember you saying that
you were doing this.
Are you still doing that?
Because my cousin asked meabout that today.
So unexpected opportunitiesshow up when we start to choose
ourselves and move forward inthis alignment.
(27:18):
Something that really helped meas I was growing and moving from
corporate into my own businessbefore Lizzie and I merged
together, was I stopped sayingoh, I'm building a business, I'm
building a business.
Oh, I'm going to be a coach,I'm building a business.
Oh, I'm going to be a coach,I'm going to be a yoga teacher,
I'm going to be a meditationteacher.
I took away the going to and Ideclared who I was and what I
(27:39):
was doing.
So I declared I'm a meditationteacher, I'm a Reiki master, or
Reiki, not Reiki master yet, butI'm a Reiki practitioner,
because I was.
I just was saying I'm stilltrying to figure it out and gain
clients.
So I chose what I was and hadconfidence to explain that to
others and I realized I was inthat limbo state because I had
(28:01):
credentials but I wasn'tactually having any clients.
So I felt I was in this limboand I kept telling people oh,
I'm working on being a coach,I'm working on being a yoga
teacher.
So something else to consider.
Where are you keeping yourselfin this limbo too?
Speaker 2 (28:19):
Yeah, yeah, that's a
good point.
It's hard sometimes.
It's hard a lot of times whenyou're stepping into something
new to claim it and fully claimit, and once you can, it's
pretty incredible what canhappen after that.
But really, like wrapping thisup with alignment this word
(28:39):
alignment which I love so much, nikki loves so much Demystifying
alignment over here, it'sreally just about trusting
yourself, trusting yourintuition, just trusting that
deep inner knowing of what isright for you, what isn't
(29:00):
allowing for flow, allowing forthings to be easeful, but
knowing that it's not going tobe like that all the time.
Just notice with yourself, notice with your body.
Pay attention this week, likethis is our challenge, like this
week, pay attention in yourbody when you're making
decisions, like what feelseaseful, light, exciting quote
(29:28):
unquote aligned and what feelsforced in your life right now.
Like what are you forcing andis there a small shift that you
can make to help move moretowards that aligned feeling?
What can you do?
Because we're here all day totalk and listen to things,
(29:50):
because we're here all day totalk and listen to things, but
nothing changes unless you makea change.
And I'm guilty of that too.
I listen to podcasts all thetime and sometimes I don't do
anything, but sometimes I do dothings and the changes, like the
big shifts in my life, are fromthe ones that I listened to,
that I actually made a change, you know, like I mean, of course
(30:12):
, it is, yeah, of course, andthat knowledge sticks more.
You know, I can tell you, Ihave listened to many podcasts
about many things.
I can't tell you jack shitabout it, you know, but the ones
that I did do things on, likenumerology, that I love, you
know, the angel numbers, whichis my favorite synchronicity.
So I'll tell you right now, ifI look at my clock and it
(30:33):
happens to be 1-11 or 2-22 orwhatever time, I know that
whatever I'm doing in thatmoment is what I'm supposed to
be doing.
Whatever I'm thinking about iswhat I'm supposed to be thinking
about.
If I was thinking about takingaction on something and then I
looked at the clock and I sawthose numbers, I'm like I should
do that or you know it's, it's,that's one of my signs.
(31:00):
But I have declared that as mysign, and so the universe knows
that to tell me like, hey, you're on the right path with
those numbers and so we're we're.
That's part of ourcommunication style here, but
you can decide that for yourselftoo.
Decide that, like Nikki and Ihave Angel.
Numbers show that I am on theright path, that I'm making the
right decision, that whateverI'm thinking about I should do,
whatever I'm doing is what I'msupposed to be doing, and maybe
(31:22):
that could be your small shiftand all of a sudden, that makes
a big difference, justreaffirming the decisions that
you're making for yourself.
So, pay attention this weekwhat's feeling good versus
what's feeling forced and shareit.
Share it with other people.
You know, the reason why weimprove ourselves is to improve
(31:44):
everyone around us.
You know, realistically, thebetter we get, the better
everyone that we touch on aregular basis gets, better we
get, the better everyone that wetouch on a regular basis gets,
and that's our loved ones, ourkids, our husbands, our wives,
our parents, our coworkers, ourfriends.
I mean when you start to shiftand really gain a deeper
(32:06):
knowledge and understanding ofyourself and then choose
differently for yourself basedon who you are as an individual.
People notice and it's that'sone of my favorite things about
coaching is when my clients willbe like my friends will be like
something's different about you.
I can't put my finger on it.
What is it?
I'm like oh, we've reached thatpoint.
(32:26):
This is fantastic.
So it's real people, it's real.
So, please, thank you so muchfor joining us.
Take some action.
We want you to live with ease, live with flow, live with
alignment, because when you'reliving that way, it makes the
world better for me, makes theworld better for you, it makes
(32:47):
the world better for futuregenerations and past generations
.
Honestly, yeah, all of it.
Speaker 1 (32:54):

alignment, you're healing
yourself, healing past andfuture generations in the
process.

The smallest things they alladd up.
Taking aligned action when youfeel it beautiful, energy from
the universe and feeling thatexpression from the universe
(33:16):
reflecting back to you thechanges that you're making and
the path that you're on.
