people you love. I am your host,Gianna Diggs. Let's get into it.

(00:29):
Welcome back to the show. So intoday's episode, we're going to
talk about how to manage selfcare with multiple businesses
with my guest, Monisha Taylor.
So a little bit about my Nisha, she is a wife and mom of two,
she is a former attorney turnedlegal recruiter. And she's also
a postpartum depression andabuse survivor. So more, Nisha
is passionate about helpingwomen to build confidence, hope

(00:52):
and focus on self care. This ledher to her recent business
launch to help women get theirself care through a discount
travel club. And so her goal isto show others that through
faith and proper self care, youcan heal and enjoy your life. So
without further ado, let's getinto the interview. Hi, my,
Nisha, welcome to the show.

Monisha Taylor (01:14):
Hello, thank you for having me.

Gianna Diggs (01:17):
Thank you, welcome. I'm happy to have you
here. So I'm excited for ourconversation today, because
we're going to discuss you knowhow to make time for yourself
care, right, as a mom, entrepreneur, of two businesses,
and a wife and a mother of two,you know, self care is, is super
important when you're managingall these different branches. So

(01:40):
my first question is, how do youmanage your own time and energy,
when you have multiple businessto run?

Unknown (01:48):
Wow, um, I would like to say I have that all figured
out. But I don't. Basically, Iwould say that I do my best to
calendar my time. And then I'malso flexible with my time where
if I can find little pockets oftime here and there to do

(02:09):
things, and I will do get upearly, before the kids get up,
to try to do some things to justmentally prepare myself and I do
a lot of my self care at thattime. And then like around
lunchtime, I'll you know, recordsome videos and maybe do some
posts. And then in the evenings, that's when I will use my time

(02:30):
to like, you know, talk withpeople talk with customers
follow up with people and kindof go from there. So, so I
pretty much have my day, kind oflike morning, afternoon and
evening. And so far, that's beenworking for me, I'm quite sure
at some point, I'll end upchanging my schedule again. But

(02:51):
for right now, that's that'sbeen working, that's been
allowing me to get things done, because I do work full time. So
you kind of have to, you know, kind of put things through your,
you know, in your schedule andkind of be willing to change
things around if necessary.
Like, of course, I have to makeadjustments for like
appointments and stuff likethat. But I tried to keep my
schedule flexible, but I do liveby a calendar. So I just said

(03:15):
all that to say I live by mycalendar.

Gianna Diggs (03:20):
Right? I love that. Because a lot of people
don't. And I feel like I I had acalendar, and even in college,
like, you know, or even in highschool, you know, we had our I
had my planner. And I feel likeI lost that as an adult. And I
think it was because I had tohave it. It was like, Okay, I

(03:41):
know, I need to write out when Ihave a paper do I need to read
it when I have a test too. Andso it's easier for me to kind of
keep track of that. But I feellike as an adult, it kind of was
just like flying by the seat ofmy pants. And then once I
stepped into entrepreneurship,it was like, oh, no, that has to
change. You know, like, I can'tfly by the seat of my pants,
because I got to pick up mydaughter when she was in daycare

(04:03):
at this time. Or, you know, nowit's like she has to be at
school at this time. So now mycalendar is like you can't book
me from like, you know, 1230 tolike three or 230 Because I'm
blocking off time to get mydaughter from school. So,
exactly. So I love that you wastalking about just like living

(04:24):
by your calendar. So do you haveany, like, favorite tips on how
to practice your self care? Oreven just, you know, you kind of
touched on it, but like how tocarve out that time? You know,
like, what kind of like, what'syour like, what's your process,
if that makes sense?

Unknown (04:46):
Sure. So of course it varies. I've been doing a self
care challenge, where youliterally can do anything for
self care. And that could belike I said, a long shower with
aromatherapy. balm via now youcan get those steamer bombs and
put them in your shower. You canstretch for 10 minutes, you can

(05:07):
listen to your favorite musicfor five minutes and say, okay,
look, I need a dance break, I'mgoing to listen to this song for
five minutes. Or you know, ofcourse, you can do meditation,
yoga, breathing, box breathing, that's one of my favorite things
to do. If my day is just crazy.
And I'm starting to feeloverwhelmed and I'm starting to
feel tense, I will stop. And Iwill just breathe. And even the

(05:31):
Apple Watch has like amindfulness thing where it
literally tracks anything thatyou do for mindful Ness. So I
did a meditation on peloton thepeloton app this morning. And my
my Apple Watch tracked it andsaid, Oh, you've done 10 minutes
of mindfulness, you know. Sothere's definitely different

(05:52):
things you can do for self careideas, I definitely try to share
those in my blog. Because I knowas a busy mom, when you're
overwhelmed, you're not going tosit and be like, Okay, what can
I do for self care? Like that'snot right, that's the farthest
thing from your mind is like, you just need to have things
that you can quickly do to kindof reset yourself. So you can go

(06:13):
about your day and do the thingsyou need to do. And that's,
that's what those little selfcare nuggets can do for you.

Gianna Diggs (06:21):
Right. And I liked that you. You mentioned just the
timeframe of it of like, oh, youcan do that for five minutes.
You can do this for 30 minutes.
Because I think, as a society,we always we look at self care.
And we're like, oh, we gottacarve out an hour for self care.
And then, you know, if you're anew mom, or if you have three
kids, you're like, well, whenwhere do I have an hour to carve

(06:42):
out self care Exactly. And so Ilove that, you know, that's
something that I work on. And Imentioned all the time too, is
love, like, okay, self care canbe a minute of just a breathing,
exercise and breathing. Beexactly dancing, have a dance
party with your child, includeyour kids. And I think that's so
important for us to understandbecause especially as moms,

(07:06):
because a lot of times we don'tfeel that our we're even worthy
for self care. Because we don'twe feel like oh, I don't have
the time for that. And that oneminute that one minute could
have just have just breathingcould have helped you with your
entire day when things arecrazy.

Unknown (07:24):
Exactly, exactly. Like I've been doing a 30 day self
care challenge on my socialmedia pages. And I give people
little things to do every day.
And I'm like here, this is yourself care task for the desk.
today. Go do it. So today was 10minutes of stretching, you know,
the other day was clean out adrawer the other day was take a
long shower. Another day wasdance to your favorite song,

(07:47):
like as little quick things thatyou can do that don't take all
day to do.

Gianna Diggs (07:53):
Right. And that's the key is knowing that it
doesn't take all day

Monisha Taylor (07:58):
doesn't take all day and you feel better. Right?

Gianna Diggs (08:01):
So what are your tips for setting priorities and
lino like avoiding burnout?
Because I think that's somethingwe, we all kind of, especially
when you're new in business, andyou're trying to get things
done. And you feel like you, youdon't have anyone helping you at
that point, right? You'reprobably a solopreneur. And
burnout is the key thing thatkind of stops moms from kind of

(08:24):
moving forward, because it'sjust like, I don't you just you
don't have the time. And nowyou're like, Oh, you're just all
over the place. Right? So like, how do you set those priorities
and avoid it, do your self care?

Unknown (08:39):
Listen to yourself.
Listen to yourself. The to me,the first sign of burnout is
when you feel overwhelmed, yourbrain feels foggy, you can't
seem to remember anything, youcan't seem to focus on any one
thing. And your everything justfeels like it's caving in on
you. Like I feel like, at leastin my situation, that's the

(09:02):
first sign of burnout. Andthat's when I take a day. I take
a day to take a mental healthday. Whatever it is, even if I
can't take off from work, I maynot work my business that day.
But I give myself a break. Givemyself a break. I think that's
the only thing you can do. Andit may it may be a day, maybe

(09:24):
two days, it's whatever you needto reset. Because we have as
entrepreneurs we have this habitof just go go go go go right
nope, I'm working. I'm workingweekends. I'm working Monday
through Friday. I gotta keepgoing, I gotta keep going and
you don't listen to your body.

(09:46):
And if you don't listen to yourbody, your body will stop you.
Right. So when you see thosesigns when you can't focus when
you're feeling overwhelmed whenyou're feeling anxious and it's
hard to breathe. Then you'relike Okay, nope, I needed I need
to listen to that. And I need toshut it down. Right? It'll be
it'll be there tomorrow.

Gianna Diggs (10:07):
Right? Oh, I love it. That's

Unknown (10:08):
what I do. Yeah, I live I listen for those for those
body cues, where I just can'tseem to relax. I can't seem to
focus. I can't seem to breathe.
Okay, I need to take a break. Ineed to take a break. It
happened to me not too long ago.
And I literally just shuteverything down that day. I

(10:29):
didn't do not one thing. Nextday, I felt better.

Gianna Diggs (10:34):
I definitely can relate to that. Because I've had
moments of like, I just I need aweek. You know, it's like,
because I did overwork myself.
And I burned out and I was like,I need a week of just doing
nothing. And I gave myself that.
And you said something, it's mypregnancy brain is kicking in
right now. He said something Iwanted to I wanted to touch on

(10:57):
and I lost, it'll be theretomorrow. Oh, yes, thank you.
Girl, I love to

Unknown (11:03):
choose it is real, it doesn't come back either. It was
just know that your child'sgonna be real smart. Because
they can all your brain takingthem off. Your child's gonna be
very smart. Just know.
Hopefully, he's smart, like yoursister. So both of my kids are
very smart. And mommy can'tremember nothing. They don't
took all my brain says.

Gianna Diggs (11:26):
Right. But I love that you said that. It'll be
there tomorrow. Because I thinkthat I think that speaks the
hustle culture. Right. And thatspeaks to people that are just
like, do it now. You know, like, yes, we know what that Tomorrow
is not promised, obviously.
Right? Like, with everythinggoing on in the world. We know
that Tomorrow is not promised.

(11:47):
That's not that's a given. Butjust this this thing of like, it
has to get done tonight. Right?
Like, I can't wait untiltomorrow. And it's just like
that you give?

Unknown (11:58):
Yeah, if you give yourself a heart attack or
stroke, because you didn't giveyourself a break. It won't be
there tomorrow.

Gianna Diggs (12:06):
Right?

Unknown (12:08):
Right. So that's literally what it's about. Your
mental health is your physicalhealth. Like if you can
literally give yourself aphysical ailment because you
didn't take care of your brain.

Gianna Diggs (12:25):
Right, that's a word. In my head, I'm like,
That's a quote. That's a word.
You know, and it because it'sit's true.

Unknown (12:33):
Physical health, it really is your mind is in
control of everything.
Everything. Every bodilyfunction, everything. So if you
don't take care of your mind, your body will not be able to
function not too long afterthat.

Gianna Diggs (12:55):
Right. And I think we don't realize that. I think a
lot of times we you know, basedoff our medical, you know, the
medical field, and it's alwayswell, this was the cause. And
that's the cause. And a lot oftimes it's because we're not
allowing ourselves to just

Unknown (13:13):
you know, it is it stressed. Stress is a killer. A
right is stress. Stress is akiller. Stress is the main cause
behind most physical ailments.
Many times you go to the doctor, and I'll say, Oh, I don't know
what caused this. Are you undera lot of stress? Like they'll
ask

Gianna Diggs (13:32):
you, right?
Because what's going on in yourlife?

Unknown (13:36):
What's going on in your life? Oh, well, you know, this
happened. And that happened.
Okay, well, yeah, you'restressed, you need to find a
better way to handle yourstress, like doctors will tell
you this, right? That's proofright there that your mind is in
control of everything. It's justproof right there, how your mind
can not handle the stress, thatyou're not going to be able to

(14:00):
function.

Gianna Diggs (14:02):
Right. And that's so important because we again,
going back to like I said, withyou juggling two you have your
full job, you have your you'rejuggling multiple businesses,
you have your wife, you haveyour kids, we can't we can't
wear all these hats if we'restressed out and, and not
allowing just five minutes toourselves. Oh, yeah. That's,

(14:23):
that's the key. So I want totouch a little bit on guilt,
right? I kind of talked abouthow we we don't feel like we're
worthy of of self care. But Iwant to, like how do you deal
with feeling guilty or selfish, right? Because a lot of times
it's like, oh, like self care.
We always say self care is notselfish, but a lot of people
feel it is right. How do youdeal with those feelings? And

(14:46):
you know, in trying to take timefor yourself.

Unknown (14:52):
I make sure that when I take time for myself, it's not
taking away time from my family.
So that's why I get up early. orI take breaks throughout my day
when my kids are at school, orI, you know, do things for
myself when they've gone to bed.
So I do I focus on myself carewhen I'm alone, usually. So that

(15:18):
way, it doesn't feel like I'mtaking away time from my kids
now will I go out with somefriends and leave my husband
with the kids every once in awhile? Sure. And I do that all
the time, you know. And to me,self care is daily. It's how I
get through today, I have to dosomething for myself care daily,

(15:41):
if I don't I feel off, huh. AndI literally don't get as many
things done in the day that Ineed to get done. And I need to
do a lot of things every day. SoI have to take time for myself.
I lately I was I was being lazyand sleeping later than I
should. And I realized I wasn'tgetting my self care. And I

(16:03):
because I was I was running outof time in the mornings. So I
was literally getting up rightjust in time to start getting
myself ready and then gettingthe kids ready. And I was like,
this is not working. I'm notgetting myself care in because
my self care. Like I was tellingyou before I meditate. I
journal, I listen to somemotivational books or videos. I

(16:25):
do my visualization,visualization, I do
affirmations, I do all thesethings to get ready for my day.
And I was sleeping later. And Idid not have time to do any of
that. Hmm. And I just I wasfilling off. And I could tell
and I was like, Okay, I need toget up. So I got up earlier
today. And I had time literallyfor all of that. In my date, my

(16:49):
day was automatically better.

Gianna Diggs (16:52):
And I think you just touched on two things that
came to mind. First priority, right? And making sure that it
becomes a priority. And a lot oftimes, we Oh, I forgot to do it.
It's okay. And like I and I canspeak from experience. Oh, I
didn't journal today. Okay, Ididn't join it the next day,

(17:14):
right? And then the next day,and now it's no longer a habit
because you're not, you're notdoing it. So I really love that
you touched on the fact that youmade a priority and the fact
that you have self awareness ofit. Right. Like you're like,
okay, something's off. Right.
And I think that just comes withprioritizing. Yes. And so I love
that, that that's something thatyou mentioned. So what advice

(17:37):
would you give that that Mom,mom entrepreneurs, she might be
just starting, or you know, shecould just not be practicing
herself care. And she's reallystruggling to make time for
herself. She's maybe not seeingself care as a priority. Like
what would you tell her

Unknown (18:00):
you have to make time in your schedule for it if it
means getting up earlier if itmeans staying up later. So you
could just have five minutes tobreathe, or 10 minutes to
stretch, or a few minutes tojournal or do a gratitude
journal or we read somethingthat feeds your spirit. Like any

(18:22):
of those things, you have totake the time to do something
for you. Because if you don'ttake care of you, you won't be
able to take care of thosearound you who needs you. So you
know we live in very stressfultimes. In life is crazy. And

(18:43):
your mind will wander into thesehorrible horrible thoughts.
Right not take the time tocontrol it and focus on the
positive. All those things forself care help you focus on the
positive it helps you to focuson loving yourself. It helps you
to focus on loving those aroundyou. You know they always say if

(19:07):
you don't love yourself, how canyou love others? So it teaches
you to love yourself, do thethings that bring you joy, so
that you can lovingly care forothers?

Gianna Diggs (19:19):
Yeah, love that.
So before we go, can you let thelisteners know where they can
