I'd love for her to talk aboutthe business name too.

(01:16):
area of their health andwell-being, relationships,
career time and money.

A life by design and on apersonal note, she simply brings
joy to every encounter.
So please welcome me.
Welcome to the show, sanjaya.
It's so good to have you here.
Thank you, laura.
Sandhya (01:56):
Thank you very much,
and Lotus Life Mastery, as you
asked about the name of mycompany, a lotus is India's
national flower, and a lotus inIndia you will find it growing
(02:17):
in swamps, and so when I came tothis country, we call them
water lilies, you know, and theyare in these pristine,
beautiful little ponds and areas, right, but it's not like that
in India.
So in.
India.
You see a swamp, but then thereis a lotus flower and it is
(02:38):
untouched by its environment.
And that's what I do I helppeople access that part of
themselves, okay, and rise abovethe muck and create and design
a life that they want forthemselves.
Laura (02:57):
Oh, I absolutely love
that.
Rise above the muck.
Yeah, I've got her.
That could be like a taglinerise.
It's fantastic.
I am kind of wondering.
You know you say you've beendoing this for over two decades.
I'm curious what prompted youto be interested in helping
others find their true path.
Sandhya (03:22):
I'm going to answer
this question in two ways.
Yeah, first.
Firstly, since I was a littlegirl, I've always had a passion
for teaching and, by the graceof God, I've just had an
affinity for people, an affinityfor communication, and being
with people has always come tome very naturally.
(03:44):
Okay, now, life happened to me.
I came to this country when Iwas 19, got married, had
children after nine and a halfyears of marriage, experienced
being divorced and being asingle mother for 13 years, and
it was at that time when I wentwithin, deep within myself, and
(04:10):
was willing and ready to do thework that was needed to be the
best mother that I could be andalso to make sure that my
children had everything theyneeded, even though mom and dad
were no longer together.
So that's what got me into thepersonal transformation journey
(04:32):
at the onset.
Once I got into personaldevelopment for myself and began
to really take on theopportunities to volunteer and
assist and coach other people,it was just.
It just gave me more life.
The more I gave, the more Ireceived, and that's what set me
on the path.
(04:53):
Now, mind you, I had acorporate career.
I was in billing and financewith an IT company for 16 years
and before that I was in bankingand I continued my personal
development work in the eveningsand on the weekends.
I did a lot of volunteeringokay and.
(05:14):
I coached a lot of people,one-on-one and in groups.
So this is.
So here I am.
I'm using the tools of personaltransformation to navigate
being a single mother, raisingkids, also becoming effective
and producing results in mycorporate career.
Meanwhile, in the heart ofhearts, I always wanted to do
(05:37):
more of that expand and teachand empower people.
So once the children were ontheir own and I, I got remarried
and I have a husband who isvery supportive of what I do and
I met him in this personalquest and in also on this.
(05:57):
He's also on the same path ofpersonal development, so that
was very important to me.
I wanted somebody who was up tohis own transformation, because
that's that's important to me,you know yeah.
I'm being married after being asingle mother.
It's like come on, you know Iwant a partner?
Laura (06:13):
yeah, exactly.
It's time to move on time totime, to keep growing yeah,
exactly so that that's a littlebit about what got me over here.
Sandhya (06:21):
And then, after the
corporate career, it was like,
okay, you know what, what do Iwant to do?
Then, after the corporatecareer, it was like, okay, you
know what, what do I want to do?
This is the key question Iasked myself what would I love
to do for the rest of my lifethat I can do until the end of
my days?
And it was a no brainer doingwhat I love to do teaching and
empowering people.
Laura (06:41):
Yeah, and that's when I
got my certification, and so
much we hear abouttransformation transformation of
a life and when I think aboutit, it's kind of like this huge
word, because what is a truetransformation?
(07:02):
I think?
I bring this up because I feellike some people make
transformations in small,itty-bitty steps, while others
have a curveball thrown intotheir life that they then have
this massive transformationright.
And so what?
How is it that you know, whatis it that you do that helps
(07:25):
people actually transform theircurrent life or their current
situation, from where they areand design it as you indicate,
to where they want to?
Sandhya (07:39):
be Such a great
question, and it's different for
everyone what transformationlooks like.
So I work with entrepreneurs, women entrepreneurs.
I have worked with nurses, withVPs of banks in Pittsburgh all
different kinds of people doingall different things and they
(08:02):
are on their journey.
All different kinds of peopledoing all different things and
they are on their journey.
Some people are dealing with adivorce.
Some people are dealing with amarriage of you know couple,
decades, but there's nofulfillment or joy and, mind you
, everything affects every otheraspect of your life.
Laura (08:20):
Yeah.
Sandhya (08:21):
Right.
So, and whatever somebody isgoing through, right, we can't,
we can never say, oh, that's nota big deal.
Oh, look at that one, you knowthey're going through a lot more
than you're going to know.
It's a big deal.
Just like losing 10 pounds fora woman who, uh, you know,
(08:43):
weighs already 125 pounds, is abig deal than for something.
So somebody who needs to lose, you know, 25 or 40 pounds.
So my job is to listen, listenfor what's important to them,
what they're dealing with, whatthey really care about, and, in
(09:06):
the process of listening, keenly, without judgment.
That's key, because everyone isdoing the best they know to do
from where they are, with whatthey have, exactly Okay.
But the important thing is whatare they dealing with and where
(09:27):
would they like to be?
What's not working for them?
Laura (09:32):
Well, and you know, when
I also think about
transformation, it's like youtalk about where they want to be
.
So many times I've talked topeople about their companies.
Or I've talked to people aboutwhere they are in life and I'll
ask well, where do you want tobe, where do you you know, and
(09:53):
what do you envision your futureto be?
And they'll say to me well, oh,because, just like in a company
.
I'll say you know, where do yousee this company going in 10 or
20 years?
And they're like I don't evenknow where I'm going next month.
What are you talking about?
And so I feel like you know, can you talk to me about how you
(10:15):
get somebody to envision, to avision, or to envision their
future?
Sandhya (10:24):
That is one of the
first things that I do with my
prospects and my clients, thosewho I work with.
It's like, it's so simple.
Let me start with an analogy soour audience can really get it.
And it's like if I want to goto a grocery store to pick up a
(10:46):
container of a carton of oatmilk, I have a choice.
Ok, I can go to Trader Joe's, Ican go to Whole Foods, I can go
to Ingalls Right?
Laura (10:55):
And these are you're
you're like confusing me right?
Sandhya (10:58):
Well, I have a choice,
but I have to make a choice and
I have to know where I'm going.
I can't just sit in my car andit's like, oh you know what,
I'll just, you know, just drive, start driving and maybe I'll
bump into something.
Laura (11:15):
Or maybe the car will
take me where I need to go.
Sandhya (11:18):
But nowadays the cars
do take you where you want to go
.
Yeah yeah, and very few of usare that blessed in life where
things just all fall in place.
But even then, there has beensome work done.
There has been an intentionthat has been created.
(11:46):
There has been a clarity atsome level.
You've got to know what youwant.
Just simple, it could be assimple as you know.
When we were in you know, wewere in Pittsburgh before we
came to Asheittsburgh, before wecame to ashville we knew we
wanted to come to ashville, okay, but it's not like, oh yeah, we
want to move out of pittsburgh,I don't know where we want to
go.
No, we were clear.
So whether you're in business,or whether you want to be in a
(12:10):
relationship, or if you have ahealth goal, or or, or whatever
it is.
You gotta have an idea, apicture, some words that
articulate clearly what it isthat you want and, more
(12:34):
importantly, not just want.
What would you love in thisparticular area of?
Laura (12:40):
life.
And so when you talk about that, are you saying like, make a
vision board or you know, andcut out from magazines pictures
of the life you want, or are yousaying more along the lines of
journaling?
How do you get somebody toreally paint that picture in
(13:03):
their mind so it's firm in theirbrain, Beautiful.
Sandhya (13:08):
Everything you said
about, whether it's vision board
, cutting out pictures orjournaling, it's different.
People express themselvesdifferently.
And this is where it's reallykey to listen to, where the
(13:29):
client is, where the person whoI am connecting with is okay, if
they are.
I always begin with thequestion what would you love,
just tell me, if money was not aconcern?
Okay, if things were going theway you want it.
What would your life look like?
(13:50):
Okay, if you were living inyour home or had the career, or
had the job.
What is your experience?
Simply express in words, justarticulate.
So that's where I begin.
Okay, articulating with words, painting a picture with your
words, so that's where I begin.
(14:12):
And then getting them again.
Tell me more.
What does that feel like?
So, there's the picturing first,so there's the idea, then
there's the words, then there'sthe picturing, and then you add
the feeling and the emotion toit.
You add the feeling and theemotion to it, yeah, because and
(14:34):
the feeling and the emotion isvery, very important Because,
you know what?
There's a lot of things that wewould want, that we want, or
people may want, and peoplethink that they want, mm, hmm,
but when you really lovesomething and you really know
that it's important to you andit just makes your heart sing
(14:56):
and you're always thinking aboutit and it makes you feel good,
well, guess what?
That's the thing that you'regoing to move forward with.
Laura (15:05):
Yeah, exactly.
Well, and I think you'retalking about how we internalize
the information right and whenit sticks, when it takes hold is
when we're emotionallyconnected to it.
Always saying five sensorize it, in other words, you know make
(15:33):
sure you're connecting your fivesenses to that vision.
Sandhya (15:39):
Think about what does
it feel like?
What does it look like?
You know, what does it tastelike?
Well, you know, if it's, youknow whatever it is, it's five,
sensorize it.
Laura (15:49):
So how do you get
somebody who, let's say
somebody's not just lost andunsure about where they want to
go, but maybe feeling a littledepressed?
How do you get them from thatto the vision?
Are there steps that they cantake that help them?
Sandhya (16:16):
Are there steps that
they can take that help them
maybe appreciate life orappreciate where they're at, so
that they can appreciate thejourney?
Absolutely yes, we got to startwith where they are.
And what would they like to do?
Well, really.
Also, you know when somebody isgoing through a really
difficult time, like youmentioned the word depression.
(16:38):
So I am not a therapist, I am atransformational coach.
In my coaching experience withmy clients, when I come to a
point where I noticed that thereis something really deep in
here that they would be servedbetter with a therapist, I've
(17:01):
actually referred them to atherapist.
I have therapists who I referpeople to.
Now that doesn't mean that theydiscontinue working with me.
No, because I am always workingwith them into what they are
creating for their future.
The therapist works with themon things that have happened in
(17:23):
the past that may be reallyconstricting them, be really
constricting them.
Okay so, but I just wanted toput that in the space.
Now, coming back to yourquestion, we always again begin
with asking people what is itthat's important to them?
(17:45):
So, for example, okay, so ifsomebody's going through a
difficult time in their life, wecan call it depression, we can
call it whatever.
There are some basic thingsthat feel good for everyone.
Nourishment is one is one.
(18:07):
How many times we are notgiving our body what nourishing
foods that would help us?
Hey, hey, hey, hey hey hey, nowyou're talking, you know hey,
hey, hey, and then and thenthere is water or fresh air and
(18:28):
being with people and connectingwith people.
You know that's another thing.
When you're on atransformational journey, it
becomes very important to choosethe communities and groups that
are going to forward yourjourney and separate yourself
responsibly and effectively fromthose people who are not
(18:55):
supporting that path, and that'sa difficult one for a lot of
people.
Laura (19:01):
We often, I think, don't
realize the impact that other
people are having on ourdecision makingmaking, on our
processes as we move throughlife.
Right, we don't, yeah.
So I am kind of wondering, like, with everything that you do,
do you have anything coming upthat would help people get a
(19:23):
sense of what you do and youknow what you do and you know
have an opportunity to get tolearn more about you?
In that sense, I recall youmentioning there was something
coming up and it'd be great tolearn more, absolutely.
Sandhya (19:41):
So there's two things I
would like to give to all the
listeners, first of all.
First of all, each person is ontheir own individual, unique
journey, right?
So I'm offering a 15-minute nostrings attached conversation
(20:02):
and all you need to do to go tomy calendar link is
beyondyourblockscom.
Again, it's beyondyourblockswith an S in the end com.
That's my calendar link and youknow, set up a time so we can
have a conversation to serve youindividually and for you to get
(20:24):
a sense of some of the workthat I do.
I am also a speaker and I'm apart of the Western North
Carolina Speakers Association, and right around the corner, in
a few days, may 9th, on Thursdayat 9am, there is an event
happening at AB Tech and this isbeing hosted by Voices for

Laura (20:49):
It's being hosted by
Voices for.
Sandhya (20:50):
