future they love.
Carol works with entrepreneursand business owners in midlife
and I, like that, Just got tosay this is just fabulous.

(01:14):
Carol, just shooting for themidlife.
What is midlife, I hate to ask,but okay.
She works with thoseentrepreneurs and business
owners in midlife to build theirvision, accelerate their
results and create rich andfulfilling lives.
Carol is a sought-after speakerand coach who has shared the

(01:37):
stage with Harv Eker or Eker, Iapologize Doria Cordova and
Clinton Swain Talk about yourheavy hitters.
So she is the author of thebestselling book the Menopause
Millionaire Keys to Prosperityand Meaning in the Second Half
of your Life.
Ah well, welcome to the show, carol.

(01:59):
This is fantastic.

Carole (02:01):
Oh, I am so glad to be here.

Laura (02:04):
Yeah, I have to say you know us older folk really like
that you focus on us and thatyou have your pearls of wisdom,
if you will, that you can sharewith the audience.

Carole (02:20):
Well, I'll tell you, I began to work with people at
Midlife because, well, in my ownMidlife, everything fell apart
and, yeah, put it back together.
But what I realized is thateveryone at Midlife, you've got
experience.
You know, the experience isreally what takes you to the

(02:44):
next level.
However, some of it's not greatexperience.
You've got some wisdom and goodthings and you've got some
garbage that's been thrown intoyour life as well.

Laura (02:57):
Yeah, Are you saying like bad messaging that we've
internalized?
Is that what you're talkingabout?
Oh gosh, yes.

Carole (03:06):
It's the whole idea of what's old these days.

Laura (03:10):
Right, right yeah.

Carole (03:11):
Okay, I grew up in a generation where you were over
the hill when you were 30.
Yeah, oh gosh, that's young.

Laura (03:20):
Exactly, they're babies, they are.

Carole (03:24):
Yeah, so it's age is really an internal thermometer,
because you can maintain a youngattitude at any age.

Laura (03:39):
I like that, and what do you mean by you can have a
young attitude.
What does that mean?
Because you know I'm thinkingabout something that somebody
said to me not too long agoabout their body might be their
biological age, but their brainis about 20 to 40 years younger.

Carole (04:00):
Well, and that can be true, and the body can also
respond to good thoughts, and sowhat's a young attitude?
Then look inside and you have avision of something that has

(04:25):
not yet happened that causes youto grow.
That means, gee, I'm not thereyet.
I have to improve, grow, and Ilove with business owners that
that's honestly.
What you're often looking foris growth, but what happens

(04:45):
depends upon what you have inyour own mind as growth.

Laura (04:51):
Yeah, yeah.
So you're saying, in order togrow a business in some ways,
you really need to growpersonally, or at least have the
mindset for that growth, opportunity for that growth
opportunity, yes, the mindset, and I call it a dream.

Carole (05:08):
I call it dream building .
Now, often that's a difficultthing to call it, because we
dream when we're asleep and yetif we're sleepwalking, that's
not a good way to go throughlife.
But in dreams we can suddenlydo the things that maybe in your
real life you can't do.
You use your imagination.

(05:29):
And when you use yourimagination, I will say one
thing I look at is everythingthat is created is always
created twice.
When Edison had theenvisionment of what could

(05:51):
happen with electricity, itstarted inside with just an idea
and then he kept at it until hechanged the whole world by all
of us powering everything withelectricity.
So that happens with allbusiness owners too.
You envision it inside first,of exactly what it is that you
would like, and from there thenyou create a business plan.

Laura (06:12):
But I see what you're saying, yeah, yeah.
And then, when you're talkingabout a business plan, you're
talking about adding that visionand the mission and the values
that are important to you andthe business.
Yes, right, right, but it can'thappen without that vision.
You're absolutely right.

Carole (06:34):
No, I call it tapping into universal intelligence UI.
We hear all about AI, which isa great tool to expand our
business with language, butreally, ui, that connection to
something beyond us, that'swhere the ideas and creativity

(06:59):
come from.
It's the things that surpriseyou.
You're thinking about somethingand all of a sudden, a brand
new idea pops in.

Laura (07:07):
Right, and so are you talking about like?
Well, so I see this on so manydifferent levels now.
So if we're talking aboutservices like coaches,
consultants, therapists, thatkind of thing, then we're
talking about being able to tapinto the connectedness with
others in some ways.

(07:28):
But I also see this other layerof creativity and innovation
that you were kind of alludingto with Edison.
So what, what?
Can you elaborate a bit more onthat?

Carole (07:50):
a bit more on that.
Yes, I would say.
First of all, most people, myself included, and pretty much
every everyone born human, hasa way of looking around at our
circumstances and Thinking.
I'm limited by that, you know.
Maybe I was born into a Familywhere I wasn't supported, or
heck, I live in the poorer sideof town.

(08:10):
Therefore, I can't you tellyourself, I can't achieve
something.
Hmm, tapping into creativityand universal intelligence is,
putting that aside, to say whatwould I absolutely love and if

(08:37):
there were no obstacles, whatwould I love?
And looking at it, obstacles, what would I love?
And looking at it not from thetypical American way of more,
just more, because that doesn'talways make one happy, but
looking at your health andwealth, looking at your
relationships, yes, looking atyour vocation and business and

(08:58):
what you're doing and your timeand money freedom, and what
you're doing and your time andmoney freedom, and taking all of
that into account what would Ichoose if I felt like there were
no obstacles?

Laura (09:13):
Yeah, that's a toughie, though.
I mean can't imagine how manypeople can't.
People often can't imagine noobstacles.
Right, there are financialobstacles all the time.

Carole (09:28):
Well, there's financial circumstances, is what I would
call it.
I see we all have a certainamount of money in our bank
account.
And you can go to the bank.
You can look at it online.
That's real.
However, that's not the end ofthe story.
That's what is today.

Laura (09:49):
Okay, so go on, tell me more.

Carole (09:55):
So to move forward you have to have the vision that
gets you out of bed in themorning and I will admit that
I'm the first one to over-plansomething to get a business plan
.
And it's got so many steps andthen I figure out and start
adding them up and putting thesubstats in and I'm exhausted.

(10:17):
You know I've now got 50 stepsand I'm questioning do I really
want to do this?
It looks like an awful lot ofwork, yeah, and there's a
different way, and that way isto tap into a dream, and I'd

(10:37):
like to put it out about threeyears in the future.
Why?
Because your subconsciousrecognizes that, oh my gosh,
anything can happen.

Laura (10:46):
Pandemic is a good example of that right.
Nobody could have imagined that.

Carole (10:51):
No one could imagine it and it changed people's lives
Honestly.
A lot of feeling restricted andyet some people found new ways
of doing business.
The whole food deliveryindustry blossomed during the
pandemic.
So some people looked at thesituation and the circumstance

(11:15):
and gave up.
And other people looked at thecircumstance and says what's
possible now?

Laura (11:21):
Right, right, I like that question.
You ask what's possible now.
Right, right, I like thatquestion.
You ask what's possible now.

Carole (11:28):
Yeah, it's an easy way to look at it is what can I do
today?
If I have a vision, okay, mybusiness in three years will be
booming and I will love myclients be booming and I will
love my clients and I will havethe right team in there to make

(11:49):
everything blossom.
And today, even though I lookat and there's a limit on what I
have in my bank account, I canstill say what's possible for me
to do today from where I'm atand take a step forward.
From where I'm at and take astep forward.
And have you ever noticed thatlife goes on, and often with a

(12:13):
vision?
Sometime in the next weeksomeone pops in.
You meet them in the grocerystore, you meet them someplace
you didn't expect and they're alink toward your vision and you
know it because you have thatvision.
So you begin to see thatthere's a higher power working

(12:36):
with you to create all thosecoincidences.

Laura (12:40):
Well, and you're calling them coincidences, Other people
might call it divineintervention, Other people might
call it you know uniquecircumstances.
But yeah, I think we often areso focused on the future or the

(13:01):
past that we're not in thepresent to notice.

Carole (13:08):
Yes, can I give you an example from my life?
Yeah, please, yeah.
In October of this last year, october 3rd to be exact, was
sitting there watching the Voiceon television and all of a
sudden had this smell that likesomething electrical was going

(13:29):
wrong.
So jumped up because that's nota comfortable thing to watch
television.
So we ran around looking in thekitchen, looking in my office,
couldn't find anything.
And then suddenly I sawsomething coming from a
storeroom in the back.
We had a fire.

(13:51):
It was out in the workshop.
We found it right away when itwas just under the counter, but
before the firemen got there, flames bigger than the back of
the roof.
Oh my goodness, oh wow.
But before the firemen gotthere, flames bigger than the
back of the roof.
Oh my goodness, oh wow.
And basically that evening allthe possessions that we gathered
together and inheritances andall sorts of things either went

(14:17):
up in flame or, what I didn'trealize, with fire.
They drowned, because they comein and spray water all over
everything the front of my houselooked fine, but when I walked
in, the ceiling was sitting onthe furniture.

Laura (14:31):
Oh, my goodness.

Carole (14:32):
Now, that was a huge interruption in my life, but I
will tell you, even at the timeI felt like there was something
bigger going on and inretrospect I felt like spirit

(14:52):
stepped in and said stop whatyou're doing right now, which we
needed to do because we neededto recreate our life.
But as a result of that, I havegone much deeper into and
switching around a little bit ofthe coaching that I've been

(15:13):
doing to recognize this newuniversal intelligence as part
of our day-to-day life.
And like miracles happen.
We were figuring out where wewere going to live and all of a
sudden I get a text from someonethat I've known for years, but

(15:37):
not well, offering us a place tolive in Carlsbad.

Laura (15:44):
Oh, wow.

Carole (15:45):
So we've had a room here and a chance to really say, to
reframe ourselves, if you will, and say what are we doing that
works, what doesn't, and what'sthe difference we want to make.
And this is where coming pastmidlife also helps, because I

(16:06):
believe everybody's here for apurpose.
Midlife also helps because Ibelieve everybody's here for a
purpose.
And sometime after midlife isusually when you figure it out.
I mean, I envy those there are.
Sometimes I see, people who arein their teens and they know
what they want to do.

Laura (16:20):
But yes, I envy those people.

Carole (16:22):
That was not me, no, you like the idea of exploration
over time.
Then huh, yeah, yeah, nice,heck.
I mean, laura, you look at itand look at the experience we've
had up to a later point in lifeand they're things you chose,

(16:45):
but they make you uniquely, you.

Laura (16:47):
Yes, yeah, so true, so true.
The decisions that we makeearlier in life and they, you
know they compound over time,right.
They have impacts that causeyou to go left versus right in
any given scenario, right.
And then the compilation of allthose decisions that you make

(17:08):
lean you in one direction, maybe, or cause you to actually buck
against the direction you wereheaded.
You know, it's reallyfascinating.

Carole (17:21):
You point out something very important there, which I
believe is key for everyone, which is to notice what you're
noticing.
When you make a decision, oryou're with certain people, or
notice, do I feel more alive.

(17:43):
Or am I suddenly wishing I couldbe someplace else?
Right, right, because this isgiving you valuable information.
You're the one who willinterpret that information, but
we are little receiving ends forfeelings, for thoughts and for

(18:09):
inspiration.
They all can come into ourexperience.
By noticing what you'renoticing, you have more access
in your choices because, ultimately, you want to be
expansive.
So notice, am I feelingexpansive, or am I feeling like

(18:31):
I'd go, you know, crawl underthe blanket and pull it over my
head?

Laura (18:34):
Yeah, or even overwhelmed by the expansiveness
right, because it might be toomuch that can be as well.
Yeah, yeah, very, veryinteresting.
Yeah, yeah, very, veryinteresting.
You know, I'm curious about onething what is you know?
What is something that you havefound key in working with the

(18:56):
clients that you've worked with?
If there's one thing you couldsay, this did, doing this X
exercise or something helpedpeople move from point A to
point B what would that be foryou?

Carole (19:16):
The first thing.
I'm actually going to repeatsome of what I've said, but by
noticing what you're noticing.
Noticing what you're noticing.
If you're in any area whereyou're not feeling joyous and

(19:36):
expansive, notice that.
So notice what you're noticingand that will give you some of
the clues to create your visionof life.
And, as I say, look at it aboutthree years out.
You had no obstacles.
What would that be?
And get in a relaxed, positivestate of mind to do that.
But this is the thing that will, by creating that and moving

(20:03):
toward it, that is what will getyou out of bed and get you
excited in the morning.
Yeah, and then, then, finally,as you've got that clear, make a
decision that you're gonna gotoward it and take an action
from where you are with what youhave.
Take an action toward it eachday, that's wonderful, Wow.

Laura (20:25):
well, if people wanted to get in touch with you and in
particular, I'm curious more I'dlove to learn more about your
book, the Menopause Millionaire.
I love the title, but I am kindof curious how can they contact
you if they want to reach outto you and find out more about
you?

Carole (20:43):
The best way is well, one of two ways Go to
carolhodgescom, and my firstname has an E on it.

Laura (20:53):
C-A-R-O-L-E.
Yes.

Carole (20:56):
H-O-D-G-E-S all together Mm-hmm, and that will then give
you some links there to evenmeet in person strategy session.
But that's the best way to geta hold of me.

Laura (21:13):
