My guest today is Dr. Christy Lane. She is a global leader of InsurTech and a health scientist with expertise in AI, digital health, and wearable devices. She is the Co-Founder of Flora Fertility and founder of the Stanford Wearable Health Lab.
Dr. Lane has been involved in women’s health research since the 90’s, and is blazing a new path forward to combine critical components of wearable tech to help inform insurance policy to make fertility treatments more accessible. She is a mom of 3, who has gone through IVF herself therefore deeply understands the emotional and financial challenges of treatment.
She is here today to tell us about Flora which is launching this Spring. It’s a new way to think about insurance and more specifically, insurance for fertility challenges. Her expertise in wearables informs much of her work and is of great interest to me so I had to pick her brain before we wrapped up. Initially when we changed gears and started talking about wearables, I sort of siloed my usual work which I consider low tech- high touch, albeit virtual, into one category and my interest in wearable technology into another but as she talked I realized that I work with people in the perinatal period in this manner all the time. I just don’t push this on people who aren’t already into it, except for maybe the occasional CGM here or there where it could be best utilized.
I learned a lot from her today, clarified some assumptions I'd made and got all jazzed up about the work I am already doing with women around optimizing fertility, improving pregnancy outcomes and postpartum experiences, work that is inseparable from discussions about lifestyle choices and changes.
