Women who are high functioning will continue to be productive and show up like everything is fine even while they are burning the candle at both ends. In fact, many women double down on their performances, hard work, and their goodness when they start smelling smoke.

This quickie episode will help you understand the wisdom of burnout and how to have prescribed burns that actually create MORE long term health and wellbeing instead of trying to always have things together.

Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to the Motherhood Mentor Podcast.
I'm Becca, a somatic healingpractitioner and a holistic life
coach for moms, and thispodcast is for you.
You can expect honestconversations and incredible
guests that speak to health, healing and growth in every area
of our lives.
This isn't just strategy forwhat we do.
It's support for who we are.
I believe we can be wildlyambitious while still holding

(00:25):
all of our soft and hardhumanity as holy.
I love combining deep innerhealing with strategic systems
and no-nonsense talk about whatthis season is really like.
So grab whatever weird healthbeverage you're currently into
and let's get into it.
Welcome to today's episode ofthe Motherhood Mentor Podcast.
Today is going to be a quickiemaybe that's what I'll call

(00:50):
these just a quickie conceptthat I wanted to come riff on
for a minute, and that is it'soften the straw that breaks the
camel's back right, like it'soften that one little thing that
feels like it breaks you orbreaks you down or like has you
slipping.
It's the stuff that piles up,and the good news about that is

(01:12):
that if it's the straw thatbreaks the camel's back, it's
also you honoring those littlesmall straws along the way that
prevent you from breaking yourback, that prevent you from
burning out.
Small doable pieces of work canbuild momentum.

(01:34):
The consistency of doing smallsacred things can build into
this big wild transformation.
And this is so importantbecause most of the women that I
work with are high functioning, and what I mean by that is that
you could be burning out.
You could be totally burnt outof, like nothing feels good.

(01:54):
I feel like I feel so tired andnothing has the joy or the
light or the energy that it usedto, and it's like I'm here but
I'm not really here, and I'meverywhere but I'm nowhere.
And I'm like showing up and I'mdoing the things and I'm going
through all of the motions andthe movement and it's all so
good and I am grateful andthings look good, but they don't

(02:17):
feel good, they don't feelright, something's off.
There's this deep thing insideof me that's like whispering or
it's yelling, that like thisisn't it.
And maybe this burnout feelsglobal and it feels all over and
you can't really identify likewhat exactly it is.
Or maybe this is like one area, like maybe this is in your

(02:41):
business or in your marriage orin your motherhood, or maybe
it's like in your personal, emotional or spiritual or
physical wellbeing, where you'resaying something's off.
One of the biggest ways that weprevent burnout is by having
prescribed burns.

(03:03):
Here is what I mean.
In Colorado we get a lot ofwildfires, maybe not as many as
other places, but one of theways that nature or natives who
lived with the land and whoactually honored Mother Nature
and her cycles and what sheneeds nature and her cycles and

(03:29):
what she needs understood thatsmall prescribed burns actually
is part of the life cycle of theland.
It's part of the life cycle ofhealthy mountains, healthy
plains, of every once in a whilethere has to be these small
prescribed burns.
Otherwise, if those aren'thappening, when a fire does
catch, it just takes everythingin its path because there isn't

(03:55):
the right amount, like theecosystem doesn't have what it
needs.
And listen, I'm not like ascience person, so I might not
be like saying this allcorrectly, but hear what I'm
saying.
In your life of there's so manypeople who will tell you all
about recovering from burnoutand I think that's a very
important thing.
But what I'm really interestedin in my career and the work

(04:19):
that I do with the women thatI'm working with, they don't
want to burn out in theirbusiness.
They don't want to burn out intheir motherhood or their
marriage or their personalwell-being.
That doesn't feel like anoption to them.
They don't want to have to burnout and the only way I see that
happening is by having theseprescribed burns, where we

(04:40):
create healthy boundaries toprotect what is sacred, what is
holy, while still allowing theselittle micro moments and these
small little straws to break andburn and to be able to shift
and pivot things in your life.
Where you allow things to burndown, to fall apart a little bit
, you create more self-trust inthe messy right, because one of

(05:06):
the big things that comes, thatcreates burnout, is hyper
control, constant micromanaging, you having to be on all of the
time.
You feel like you have yourfoot on the gas and the brake at
the same time.
You're going from all ornothing or you're so terrified

(05:26):
of burning everything down thatyou just keep going, but the
pace you're moving at doesn'twork for you.
So having these littlemicro-prescribed burns,
acknowledging these different umpieces in your life, these

(05:48):
straws in your life, whilethey're small or while they're
building, and being able tocreate capacity and awareness
and honoring your complex needs,is vital to burnout.
So I'm curious in your life.

(06:10):
Where are you feeling thisconsistent pull or burning on
your focus, attention andemotion?
That feels like it's too muchand how can we honor that?
And something I want to addbefore we go today that's it.
That was the podcast.
And something I want to addbefore we go today that's it,

(06:32):
that was the podcast Listeningto your life, paying attention
to these small little areaswhere you need to allow some
burn to happen, some things tofall away, some visions to be
put on the back burner, somegrief to happen right, some

(06:53):
grief to happen right.
Some healthy die off, somehealthy.
You know these cycles of lifeof it's not always consistent
growth and expansion.
It's.
There's going to be a summerseason and then there's going to
be a fall harvest and thenthere's going to be a winter
where everything dies and itneeds to go compost and create
this really rich, nutrient-densesoil so that when things begin
to grow, they can have thesedeep roots of health.

(07:13):
What does that look like inthis season to you?
And as I end, I wanted to sharethat I am opening up a few spots
for one-on-one somatic coachingand if you are one of those
women who is listening to thisshow and you're resonating with

(07:35):
the depth and the nuance and thejoy, I hope, the truth and the
integrity that I hope you hearin this podcast of like really
talking about what it's like andhow we do this, how we have it
all and hold it all withoutburning out or compromising on

(07:55):
our values or our standards, while also like having a really
wonderful human life.
Like I don't know about you,but success to me is not just
that I have it, it's that it'show it all feels, that I'm
present, like deeply present, like I want to be in the room
when I'm with my kids, when I'mwith my kids, like I want to

(08:16):
really be there and when I'mworking, I want to be like in my
work and just loving it andlike, oh, just creative and
ambitious and building andexperimenting and connecting.
And if you are someone who is ahigh functioner where you have
built success, you haveestablished this wonderful life

(08:41):
that is so good that you are sograteful for, but you also want
to make sure that you don't burnout.
But you also want to make surethat you don't burn out and you
maybe are curious how to slowdown more, how to be more
present, how to bring more ofthe cycles of life so that
you're not always just runningon 90 miles an hour because that

(09:04):
doesn't feel good anymore.
Maybe what you wanted or neededhas changed.
Maybe you're looking atyourself and you don't recognize
you and you just need a spacewhere you can talk about it,
where you can have this deepsupport and process but actual,

(09:25):
like tools to work on it,because coaching with me, there
is massive amounts of compassionand support, but there's also
accountability.
I hold my clients to a reallyhigh level of I see you and I
know what you're capable of, andI am going to call out when you

(09:49):
are playing small, when you'reafraid.
I'm going to help youunderstand what those straws are
that you can see and then whatyou can't see.
There's a saying of even thebest brain surgeons cannot do
brain surgery on themselves, andthis is why I still see a coach
.
One of the things that has mademe the coach that I am is the

(10:10):
coaching that I receive as aclient, the fact that I show up
to this work over and over formyself personally.
So I'm not just bringing youknowledge that I read in a book,
I'm bringing you things that Icurrently continually practice
and show up for in my life.
And I get it because I am inthe season of raising babies and

(10:33):
building a business and I wantmy marriage to be not just
surviving this season but likereally thriving in this season.
And, oh, I want health andwell-being and I care about my
family and community and friendsand it's like there's so much
Sometimes.
We just need a space and aplace to be able to bring it all

(10:57):
back into focus.
For clarity, if you are theperson who is taking care of
everyone and everything else, ifyou are a space holder, you're
a therapist, a coach, a birthworker, someone who is out there
doing big, beautiful things inthe community.
What I love to do as a coach isbe that place that takes care of

(11:19):
you.
How is this all feeling for you?
How do we make sure that youare showing up to your health
and well-being holistically Mind, body, soul, environment, like
in your habits, in your thoughtpatterns?
Are we creating space andcapacity for your emotions?
How are your boundaries?
How is your time and energymanagement?

(11:40):
Those are all things that wecontinually are working on and
building and up-leveling.
The women that I work with arereally well and healthy and
they're actually pretty good atshowing up for themselves and
their schedules and their lives.
But now it's not just oh, I'mdrowning and it's helped me.

(12:00):
That's not really thepopulation of moms that I work
with drowning and it's helped me.
That's not really thepopulation of moms that I work
with.
I work with moms who are likeI'm good, but how does it get
great?
How do I build even more rootsof health and well-being and
stability and balance?
And I want to build and givemore.
I want to build my business orthis other business or there's

(12:24):
these things happening with mykids and I want to be able to
respond even better, show upeven more.
My values and standards arealready high and I want them to
be higher, and I need a room ofwomen who get that.
I want to be in a room of womenwho sharpen me, who make me
better, who challenge me, whomake me think about things in a
different way, in a new way, andI don't know about you, but

(12:48):
there is nothing that givesthere.
It's one of the things thatgives me the most energy is to
be with other women who thinkand feel about life differently.
They are so hungry, but notbecause they're starving,
because they are already wellfed, and then they're saying, oh
, thank you more, please.
They want themselves and theworld to be continually getting

(13:12):
better, while being deeplycontent.
If that's you and you arecraving coaching, I would love
to work with you.
So in in the link of this, inthe show notes of this podcast,
you will find a link to book afree call or to book an
application in order to workwith me, and there is an

(13:36):
application process, because Idon't work with everyone anymore
.
I'm really clear about the workthat I do in the world and who
I am most.
What's the word I want to use, like equipped?
The people that I'm mostpassionate about working with,
and I want to make sure that I'mthe right fit for you, because

(13:58):
I want to work with people whoI'm the best fit for what they
want and need.
So, if that's you, I would loveto talk to you.
There are only a couple spotsand I would love to start
working with you.
They will be opening to thewaitlist soon, so don't wait to
apply, and I hope you enjoyedthis episode.

(14:18):
If you felt this in your bones, take a moment and just ask
yourself what are the straws inmy life, what needs to be burnt
down so that I have new room fornew life.
What needs to be taken care of?
What needs need to be met inorder to make sure that I am

(14:41):
tending to my needs, my capacity, because if you are the woman
who is spinning all of theplates, if you are the woman
juggling all the balls in theair, doesn't it make the most
sense that we take care of you, because you could have the best
strategies and the systems inthe world?

(15:01):
But if you aren't there, if youdon't feel good or you're going
through the motions like you'rethere but you're not there,
what does it matter?
You are so important.
I don't think you understand.
You are so important.
You are irreplaceable.
Someone could come do everythingthat you do, but it wouldn't

(15:23):
matter.
They wouldn't do it like you.
They wouldn't be you.
You are irreplaceable in yourmotherhood.
You are irreplaceable in yourbusiness.
You are irreplaceable in yourrelationships and your
friendships and your family, andI want you to realize that this
is your life.
This is your life.

(15:44):
Come back to your life.
This is your life.
Come back to your agency, comeback into your choice of how am
I going to live this oneprecious life.
Go do something fun today.
Go do something for you.
