Cody Hofhine (00:00):
Welcome, all you
Multifamily Enthusiast, to
another episode of theMultifamily Real Estate
Experiment podcast.
I'm your host, ShalonHutchinson.
If you've been in real estatewith me for a while, you know me
as Hutch the marine investor.
And today's guest has not onlybuild business, that rank on the
Inc 5,000.
He is coached over 3000 investorand built.
(00:20):
Multiple seven and eight figureoperation, and then lead with
integrity, which is a word thatgoes beyond just telling the
truth.
Right?
So Cody Hofhine is theco-founder of Wholesaling Inc.
And it is one of the topcoaching brand in the country
and co-founder of, Joe HomeBuyer.
(00:41):
A real estate franchise, youknow, making waves across,
making waves nationwide.
But what makes Cody different isthis, he has built, big
companies without losing hissoul, his marriage, or his fire.
And today we're not only gonnabe talking about real estate,
(01:03):
we're gonna be talking aboutmindset, leadership, and the
brutal truth behind buildingwealth that doesn't cost you
your family, and of course, doesn't cost you your peace.
Cody, welcome to the show today, brother.
Hutch, such an honor, my friend.
Grateful to be here.
Learning about how early you dothis podcast is very impressive,
(01:24):
sir.
So I'm excited to be here.
Yeah, I appreciate that.
So Cody, before we go deep Intothe podcast, brother.
What is a quote, mantra ormindset beliefs that have guide
you through some dark days andhelp you lead and scale?
Oh my gosh.
Am I limited to one or can Ishare a couple?
Well, we can drop a fewthroughout the podcast.
(01:44):
We'll just throw one.
Okay.
One that I've always loved, soanyone listening to this can
really attune to this one.
This has been one of the biggestgame changing secrets, and that
is you are the average of thefive closest individuals you
spend the most time with, andthat comes from Jim Rohn.
And I've always made sure I'veput myself in the right rooms,
(02:05):
the right masterminds, aroundthe right mentors, and it seems
like that has been, 75% of thesuccess in my life.
Man, that's freaking awesome, Iwas talking to Athena recently.
and we were talking aboutAthena's, my wife, by the way.
I call myself the husband ofAthena.
And we'll just be somereflecting on our life and came
to the realization thateverything we sat at a kitchen
(02:26):
table or in our office and wetalk about, and we said this,
this is what we are doing.
We have accomplished everysingle one of those things.
It's funny the way the worldconforms to your vision and
aspiration when you speak it outloud and you make a decision
that this is what I'm going todo.
And you know, you find people,if people go to places, go to
(02:49):
different rooms that help youaccomplish these things.
And it's amazing how thathappens, the people you have
around you is definitely can becatalyst to you, either your
growth.
Your destruction, you know?
So social.
Yes, sir.
So Cody, let's capture one man.
Can you walk us through yourjourney, from, you know,
scraping together the firstdeal, to now building nationwide
(03:10):
brand and coaching thousands?
What is like your primarymission that has driven you
through those times.
I wish it was the same mission Ihave today.
Maybe to give you a littlebackstory that will tie into it,
and I'll, I'll get there asquick as I can.
Is 2015, I was about five yearsinto building a insurance
company.
About 2015.
I come home early from work.
(03:30):
I was working long hours and itwas because it's a long game
when you build insurancecompanies, it is no joke.
For the first 5, 10 years, Icame home early and my wife was
crying at the table.
I walk over to her and justremember putting my arms around
her saying, Hey, what's wrong?
And she looks up, she says, Idon't know for this month, do we
(03:51):
put what little money we havetowards our mortgage payment, or
towards food for the kids I justremember feeling depleted.
She didn't make me feel it Itwas me.
I felt it.
I was like, here I am, fiveyears into this entrepreneurial
journey.
Build an insurance agency andthere's still months where we
don't know how we're gonna makeit through the non
coincidentally thing is you lookback, hindsight, I'm a big God
(04:13):
believer.
You start to see, when you lookhindsight, you look backwards.
You start to see how God plays arole in all these different
things.
Oh, yes.
You can start to see how thedots connected.
But sometimes when you're in thedot or you're myopically in the
life, you can't see it all.
It's almost like, what'shappening?
What's going on?
What is all this?
God, are you listening to me?
Like, do you care right now?
(04:35):
And then hindsight, you start tosee, oh my gosh, I needed all
these experiences for mybetterment, to be, improved and
be ready for something biggerdown the road.
I had been going to a local realestate investor association from
2010 to 2015 every single month.
But I was going in with thewrong mindset.
I was going in with the wrongears.
(04:55):
All I would do is listen tothese investors, say, Hey, I've
got five rentals.
And I'm like, I've gotta meetthat person.
and I just, I went with thewrong mindset.
And so I'd been hearing theseguys winning for years.
Years.
I finally took the time to say, after this experience with my
wife crying at the table, I wentin with a new set of ears.
The mission at that time was,Cody, you've gotta make more
money.
(05:16):
that night I hear a guy standup.
He says, Hey, I just found thisdeal and I put it under
contract.
I ended up not wanting to closeon it, so I assigned it to
another cash buyer that I knewand I made$29,000.
That would change life reallyquick.
I asked him afterwards, I said, and I insured all this stuff.
So I trusted him.
I knew what he was saying wasnot a lie.
(05:36):
I knew it was true.
And I said, Hey, would you teachme how to do this?
He actually said no.
He said, you know what, if Itaught you, you're one of the
most driven individuals I'veever met.
If I teach you, you're gonna bemy competition.
so I got online and found acoach to teach me wholesaling.
that's really how I got into thegame I found out, 29 days
basically after.
(05:58):
I do my first deal for 24 grandI'm like, it worked.
It worked Like this is somethingelse.
And so I started doing that.
I co founded, wholesaling Inc.
a coaching company that coachedover 3,500 students nationwide.
It was a phenomenal run.
We had a top podcast in realestate for like five years.
We had a number two in thebusiness category, Dave Ramsey.
(06:18):
had it on lockdown.
We sold that company in 2020 andas a result we started Joe Home
Buyer, a national franchise, wehave a little over 70
franchisees across the nationnow that are doing our Joe Home
buyer model.
and it's been an amazing run.
And our mission now different.
It's not to go make money.
Our mission now is to buildworld class.
(06:40):
Leaders, as we build moreleaders, they will go out and
build successful businesses.
So whether you're listening tothis and you're like, well, I
don't have a franchise.
You don't have to, whether it'syou're just a dad and you have
four kids like me, I want tobuild leaders.
I don't wanna build followers, Iwanna build leaders.
So I'm making sure I'm doingeverything that I can do each
and every day to just buildleaders in the organization.
(07:01):
In my company, in my family, andas I do so I know they have a
better chance of going on tobuild successful lives.
Man, that is such a powerfultask that you've taken on.
I noticed that especially I'vebeen in the Marine Corps for 27
years, Thank you, by the way,for your service.
appreciate the support, brother.
When I learned the importance ofbuilding the leaders around you,
(07:23):
because when you think about thehierarchy of military rank
structure, it's more so theleaders and followers.
But when I learned from JohnMaxwell that it's important to
develop the leaders around you,it was such a transformational
thought process.
Change for me.
I noticed a conversation betweenmyself and my marines change
drastically, which also improvedthe quality of relationship
(07:46):
we've been able to create.
because now I'm not just barkingorders I'm now, coaching them
into their greatness.
And what I see start happeningis that my workload becomes
significantly Less because I waspretty much training myself out
of a job, and it's not because Ididn't want to work.
It's now that I have more peoplewho are thinking leadership
instead of just followers ormanagers, Most of us are
(08:09):
thinking about how do we do theright things, but at the same
time understanding where we fallin to do things right as a
manager, Stevie covered thingsthat I discovered a while ago.
Like leaders ensure that we aredoing the right things.
Managers ensure that we aredoing things right, but at some
point we all fall into theleadership and management role
and we have to know when.
So when I learned that and Istarted to impart that on the
(08:31):
Marines.
many things changed most peopleare chasing tactics.
You seem to teach from identity.
What's the mindset shift thatevery real estate entrepreneur
or entrepreneur in general,because look.
H Square Capital is targetingmore people who are military
veterans, accredited investors, and who own a small business,
right?
(08:51):
So what is the mindset shiftthat every real estate or
entrepreneur must make if theywant to build company, not just
buy another job?
Oh my goodness.
Let's go to quote number twothat helped me in life.
Quote number two is this Hutch.
Rarely does a man's incomeexceed his level of personal
(09:12):
development.
What that means is.
Many times we spend our wholelife building a business versus
building up us and have thebusiness simply chase us.
And there's too many times whereI gotta chase the money, I gotta
chase the money.
I know what it's like.
I did it for five years atinsurance.
It got me nowhere.
The moment I became better as aleader, as a human being, and as
(09:36):
someone that is developed in allareas of my life and found more
balance Now, balance doesn'tmean equal time, but as I worked
on me, what I noticed is Istarted to attract A players
that would then build mybusiness bigger than I could
build it by myself.
John Maxwell.
I love that you love JohnMaxwell.
He says, don't show me yourdreams.
Show me your teams, because withthe right team, you can
(09:58):
accomplish any dream.
And if you want to have Aplayers on your team, you can't
be a C leader or you're onlygoing to attract.
As high as you are in life.
So if you're looking at yourcurrent team and you're saying,
my team is a bunch of Cs, lookin the mirror, you're a C
leader.
That's period, the end.
(10:19):
And so if you want A players, Aplayers are looking for A
leaders.
So simply become the person thatattracts A players and watch
what happens.
That's the goal.
And you find this concept in abook called The Compound Effect,
Darren Hardy.
Phenomenal book.
He wrote 40 pages on this wife.
He's like, I'm gonna have mywife.
It looks like this, loves this, does this.
(10:40):
40 pages.
I was like, this guy is a G.
So 40 pages, he goes to a JimRowan event.
Jim Rowan says, you can haveanything you want in life so
much as you become the personworthy of the thing that you
desire.
And he's like, oh my gosh.
I'm doing this wrong.
So he wrote a 40 page documenton who he would need to become
to attract a woman of thatcaliber.
(11:01):
He's like, I'm gonna becomethis, become this, become this.
Within a couple years heattracts this wife into his life
and he says, it's scary howclose she was to the original 40
page document he wrote, Youdon't find success, you don't
find money.
You attract it and you attractit through becoming more.
Oh man, that, that's so deep.
(11:21):
And I could say thatconversation so many different
ways, But for the sake of time, brother, let me ask you this,
what were some part of youridentity?
We talk about the lens he waslooking through when you walk
into this real estate meeting.
but something had to shift.
You had a moment in your lifethat make you realize like, I
have a responsibility, I have anobligation, a duty to change
(11:42):
something.
You saw your wife that you careabout, right?
You saw how maybe your actionsare in actions or the delay in
your dreams were affecting, theperson you really care about and
you had to put on maybe adifferent glasses or maybe wipe
out the lenses, right?
So tell me about this man.
What part of your identity thatyou had to transform to grow to
(12:03):
this level of leadership andthis level of thinking that
you're going to.
Yeah, I think, I was blessed tohave that some people would be
like, Why do I have no money?
And they have this victimmindset where it's always the
world's problem.
It's always the economy'sproblem.
It's whoever's president of theUnited States problem.
it's a victim mindset, and wehave to take control and
ownership.
(12:23):
That moment was a gift from Godsaying, Hey, here's the real
situation and you could'vemissed it.
but guess what?
You get to choose what you dofrom here.
Yes, you can give up like mostof the world does on their
dreams, or you can become more.
And so the biggest thing, andfor me is I've noticed this in
my life.
You're either running towardspleasure or you're running away
(12:45):
from pain.
That was a painful moment,Hutch, and so because that was
such a painful moment, it gaveme the gift to say, I don't want
this moment in my life for along time.
I want this as short, aspossible, so I'm gonna run away
and grab onto anything thattakes me away from this pain as
quick as possible.
Two days later I hear this guytalk about wholesaling.
(13:08):
Yes, it happens quick, but whata gift.
Had I not caught my wife crying,I would've gone to that same
meeting and still looked for thenext policy to ensure.
But God's so kind.
He says, Cody, you're not makingenough, sir.
you've gotta fix this.
I go with a different set ofears, and ran away from pain.
My goal is this now, instead ofwaiting for painful moments to
(13:31):
pop up, let's do more of whatyou said, at the beginning.
Let's come up with what wereally want out of life and get
familiar with our dreams andgoals because a man or woman
that is unfamiliar with theirgoals and dreams will die
unfamiliar with their goals anddreams.
So you might as well startgetting familiar.
'cause as you get more familiar, you start to see the
(13:52):
opportunities and they're allaround us right now.
It's just you can't see'embecause you haven't trained
yourself.
To actually accept or even knowwhat you want in life to get in
alignment with all the stuffthat's sitting in front of you.
So the more you can say, Hey,this is what I want, You just
gotta get clear on what youwant.
Yeah.
And the world is alreadypresenting that opportunity to
you day in and day out.
You just won't see it unless youknow what you want in life.
(14:15):
Take me to church, brother.
Take me to church.
Let's go.
But here's the thing.
This is the reason why I wake upearly man to have these kind of
transformational conversation,right?
Because, I could have slept in,and dreamt.
But what kind of dream am Ihaving?
Some kind of uncontrolledenvironment, right?
I can't really control my dreamsbut this right here, this is
(14:36):
where dreams are enlighteneddevelop or realize that you are
in the right room, whether it's,mostly virtually at this time in
the morning, brother, and thankyou so much for the gems you're
dropping.
And look, if you listen to thispodcast and you are not clear
on.
Exactly what you want.
It's important that you do so.
(14:57):
You probably already have dreamsand aspirations that you have
written down someplace, and forsome forsaken reason, you have
forgotten about those dreams orgoals.
See, I've learned that mostpeople.
failed.
Not because they don't havedreams, it's because they have
(15:18):
forgotten about them.
They have forgotten the feelingor the place that they took
themself to when they wrotethose things down because look.
It's just like planning.
In order for us to accomplish athing, we have to go into the
future, bring it to the present, and then do something about it.
We do this in the Marine Corps, right?
it's a part of the Marine Corpsplanning process to the point
(15:38):
where we have to even act outcertain, right.
Certain operational, plan beforewe actually go execute it.
Because a lot of time, life ison the line, When we write our
dreams and aspirations, ourhappiness, the quality of life
we can provide for a family.
A lot of time.
It's on the line, but we don'tremember that until it becomes
(16:00):
painful sometimes.
If you listen to this podcastand you have gone to a place
that is a better place than youhave been.
It's important that you go findthose scrap papers, that iPad,
that dream book, or wherever youwrote that thing down and
refamiliarize yourself with theplace that you know is a better
place than you are right now.
And take yourself there, right?
And get in the right room andmake some things happen.
(16:22):
Cody, you have led teams throughuncertainty, whether it be
economic challenges or creatingfranchise expansion, Everyone
wants to scale and you have doneit, What's one thing about
scaling that most people do notunderstand until it's way too
late.
This is gonna lead to yetanother quote.
Yeah, you're gonna love it.
(16:42):
'cause this is easy for simplequotes.
Robin Sharma a dear friend andmentor of mine.
wrote The 5:00 AM Club.
Great book if you haven't readit.
Okay.
He also wrote The Eight Forms ofWealth.
That's his newest book and I,it's a gem.
It's amazing.
He says this.
It's less to do with externalstrategy, and more to do with
(17:05):
internal mastery.
Many people don't scale becausethey're not looking in the
mirror and realizing they arethe bottleneck.
When you look at a bottle.
The bottleneck or the constraintis at the top.
Who sits at the top of everycompany?
The leaders, the owners.
So when we think of bottlenecks,it's never at the bottom.
It's us at the top.
(17:26):
And I think we're always lookingfor, hey, I made an extra 50
grand this month.
Why don't we pay for moremarketing?
And we're always thinking aboutmore, more, more versus
thinking, you know what, we'rein a plateau right now.
If you have experienced aplateau, you know what I'm
talking about.
If you're in the middle of aplateau, listen up.
(17:47):
And if you haven't experiencedone, one's coming guaranteed.
And what those plateaus teach usis two things need to happen.
That is what is the skill welack to get us to the next
level.
So ask yourself, What does thefuture version of me have that I
don't have right now that allowsme to get through this plateau?
And it's tied to a skill.
People stuck in the real estatespace, they're stuck at 500,
(18:09):
750,000 in gross Rev for thewhole year.
I would say 9 times outta 10when I'm talking to someone like
that.
They lack delegation.
They don't know how to lead ateam and delegate to take
something off their plate.
They have these trust issuesthat I can only do it and no one
will do it as good as me.
these are a skill you mustlearn.
So I would be reading books ondelegation.
(18:30):
Raising a team, John Maxwellleadership.
I would be learning about how tolead a team, grow a team so that
you can break through hisplateau.
If not, you'll continue to stayin this painful loop of a
plateau until you do the work.
It's never more marketing, SOPs.
systems and processes.
It's all about what are youwilling to do to learn a skill.
(18:50):
The second one is the limitingbelief.
I don't know if I want a milliondollar business because that
means I have to hire a team.
If hiring a team is gonna be alot more headaches and it's
gonna be so stressful That'svery much can be your truth.
But here's a second truth I wantyou to know I have now sold four
different companies because Ihad a world class team that
built a great business.
(19:11):
I didn't have headaches, Ididn't have migraines.
It was incredible.
I loved it.
So which truth are you going topick?
That team is headaches andstressful?
Or team is amazing.
Allows you to expand who youare, right?
You're able to accomplishbigger, better things in life.
As we get into these plateausand pain loops of life,
remember, what's the skill youlack and what's the limiting
(19:34):
belief holding you back, if youwill do the work on those two
things.
Remember, it's less to do withexternal strategy and more to do
with internal mastery.
When you become someone betterbreakthrough, is inevitable.
Oh yeah, man.
to that point one of the thingsthat I get to do as we get
promoted through the ranks ofthe Marine Corps, especially in
the maintenance chief, what, which is what I am, military
(19:57):
occupational skills, is that weget to go to different aircraft
platforms.
So we are there to provideleadership and some managerial
skills and teaching as well,right?
But we don't always know theweapon system to a fundamental
level.
Right.
And that's where we have peoplewho is, that's their job to, do
the thing.
(20:17):
It's not their job to go shootthe wires, their job to go turn
the wrench or measure thispressure, measure this, currents
or nitrogen pressure, whateverthe case may be.
It's their job to do that.
And it can be intimidating tolead those folks who you know
for sure know the systems betterthan you do, right?
So we have masteredsignificantly the who not how
(20:40):
concept, right?
Dr.
Benjamin Hardy, right?
Oh yeah.
So we master that in the MarineCorps, knowing that those junior
Marines are significantly moreexperienced on the weapon system
than some senior folks, as theyshould, because we get to move,
from unit to unit.
The more senior you get.
Right.
Knowing that they, that theyhave, that, it's also, it put us
(21:02):
in the place to have moredevelopment on leadership.
Having more personaldevelopment, professional
development, not necessarilymilitary professional
development, but also moreprofessional development.
So we can bring a lot more tothe fight as leaders, here's one
thing another following questionI wanted to ask you, Cody.
as the leader, you have grownyourself and helped so many
(21:23):
people to develop.
How do you control your time, your team, your mission when you
are accelerating your businessgrowth?
Oh my gosh, it's so good.
'cause it wasn't always thisway.
Again, growth happens in phases, but Hutch, I would tell you,
it's getting crystal clear meand my wife came up with a
little acronym to help us.
Riches simple.
(21:44):
Everyone wants riches, but let'sbreak it down.
It's six areas, R-I-C-H-E-S, sixletters, R as relationships, I
as income, C as your character.
H is your health.
E is your experiences, and S isthe service, the things you're
gonna give back.
It's not a perfect balance.
(22:04):
They don't get equal time.
However, the time that I am ineach one of those areas gets
Cody Hofhine full presence.
I make sure that if I'm with myfamily.
This is not in my pocket.
It's not in my hand.
It's not in my room.
Like it's nowhere to be found.
It is away.
Why?
Because that is a massivedistraction.
(22:25):
It may not be that my kids getthe same amount of time as I put
into business, but when they getmy time, it's fully present.
Cody, it's Cody at its fullpresence.
I make sure that.
Me and Wendy when we sit downand do our quarterly planning
for our family we get our kidsinvolved.
Here's what's going on.
We get everyone involved.
It's a big family planning.
(22:46):
Me and Wendy get together often.
We do date nights.
Every single week.
We're going on a date night andwe're either breaking down
something.
It's not just about food in amovie, we rarely go to a movie.
It's more about talking, communicating, just, and just
growing our family and how do weget better at that same thing
with our business.
And so that's good.
I think the whole point behindthis is really design your life.
(23:06):
How do you want to live?
And then build a business thatsupports that plan versus you
wasting your whole life buildinga business with no lifestyle,
with no plan.
And so I don't plan on justbuilding a 10, 20, 30,$50
million business.
I say, here's the lifestyle.
this is my non-negotiables.
This is how I want my life to benow.
(23:28):
I'm gonna build a business thatsupports that.
It's funny that you brought itup and it's very timely.
I came on a couple days ago andAthena met me in the garage,
bare feet, And she was filledwith so much excitement and
enthusiasm, and I'm pretty sureshe had a very challenging day.
I also had a very challengingday too,'cause I think I came
(23:50):
home right around 8:00 PM.
So I had a long day, and Iallowed my day to distract the
attention that I needed to giveher.
I noticed by the time we went tosleep, how her mood.
Since transitioned into theenthusiasm that came to the
(24:10):
garage versus the way the nighttranspired.
I felt so bad about it that Iknew exactly at what point that
shift happened, So, it's really,I really appreciate you talking
about.
Balancing life because a lot offolks talk about work life
balance, right?
what I try to impart to includemy marines that I talk to daily
(24:31):
is that life is not balance.
It's about balance sin, right?
We have to get into the habit orfigure it out.
How do we compartmentalizecertain things?
The phone goes away when it'stime with family.
We're not talking about work.
When it's work.
We focus when it's time to pray.
You are all in.
(24:52):
When it's time to meditate, Ithas your full attention.
When it's time to work out, maybe you, pick things up, put
'em down, but you're also, feeding your brain as well as
working your brainwavescompartmentalizing.
In an effort to balance life.
We're not gonna spend a hundredpercent of our time in church.
We're not gonna spend a hundredpercent of our time with our
family.
We're not gonna spend a hundredpercent of our time working.
It's about balancing that, So,Cody, thank you so much for
(25:15):
providing the opportunity toreflect on that, brother.
I have you for about anotherseven minutes.
I want to go into the focusround and we can wrap this up,
brother.
So focus.
It's an acronym that we use andit seems like you like acronyms?
So what's something you do thathas nothing to do with real
estate, but keeps you sharp?
Oh my gosh.
I would have to tie something Ilove to my fitness.
(25:38):
So I'll try to keep it as closeas I can to focus the f is
fitness for me.
I Feel like that's my keystonehabit, meaning when I'm taking
care of myself, all the otherareas of my life start to Play
together and, really worktogether.
every time I take time formyself to manage my help, that
is the one habit that unlocksgreatness in all the rest of my
(26:00):
habits.
That's fricking awesome, man.
Hell yeah.
so we got five and a halfminutes.
let's breeze through these otherones.
What opportunities are youseeing right now that others,
may be scared to tackle?
Ooh, opportunities that I seeright now that people are scared
to tackle.
I will say there's a lot of talkaround ai.
I think it's not here to replacehuman beings because You talked
(26:20):
about this, like AI has neverhad the experience, like they've
never personally gone throughit.
So it won't replace people inthat regard.
However, those that are willingto adopt AI are going to be,
enhanced to a higher levelthat's awesome.
I actually attend the mastermindhere in about.
half an hour.
Once I'm done, my productmanager talk about ai.
So communication, what is yourrule for communicating vision?
(26:41):
So your team actually runs withit so they can actually see what
you're saying.
Bring it up frequently, sharethe vision over and over again.
You can never share it enough.
And then I use a lead formula, and so I'm always tying it back
to my core values.
for our family, it's heart forothers, hopeful, humble and
honest.
So those four H's.
I always tie every correctionand praise to the value so that
(27:06):
my family knows our values.
I'll be like, Hey dude, that wasan amazing way of showing
humility.
I love that you're learningright now and you're coachable
and you're teacher.
Oh dude, I love it.
And also when I need, correct.
Hey, it looks like in thatconversation with your brother
or your sister.
There really wasn't much heartfor others Oh man, what do you
think you can do to get betternext time?
(27:26):
And I'll even sharevulnerability.
Hey, I've done that too.
Me and mom have been in anargument where I was in the
wrong, I didn't show up withheart for others, So they're
like, oh, dad's not perfect.
Okay, I get it.
But here's what I did to make itright.
What's a way you can make itright?
Everything gets tied back to ourfamily values and our office.
With our business life.
We have values there as well.
We tie every correction andpraise back to our family or our
(27:49):
core values.
Man, it's amazing when you havethat level of compassion, Or
even just grace, right?
When they show people grace andsee that we are all susceptible
to some of these, these, deviation from what great
characters, man, that's, I Iwould say that's powerful, but
that is power.
Alright, so two more before weWrap it up.
what is one truth aboutleadership?
(28:11):
You didn't understand untilmaybe you lost some money over
it or time or relationshipmaybe.
Oh, well this will be easy.
Let me, this will maybe catcheveryone off guard.
I invested$200,000 in a startupcompany.
Six months later, bankrupt lostall 200 grand.
I couldn't tell anyone what theinvestment was'cause I didn't
understand it myself, and I feltlike I did it because of a
(28:32):
personal relationship I wantedto gain with someone.
So don't invest.
To tie yourself to someonesaying, oh man, if I buy this
then I'll get X amount of timewith so and so.
That's something I did wrong.
Leadership owns and they investin what they know.
You don't need to invest in whatyou don't know.
Stay your lane and you'll bejust fine.
I think that's one of thebiggest things I'm focused on as
well.
how educated are our investorsbefore we actually take their
(28:56):
money?
Because when you dive into thatrelationship, man, it's long
term.
Yes.
And it's important that theyunderstand what they're
investing in, so you know.
We can extrapolate a lot ofinformation for the things we
have talked about during thispodcast.
Cody, I wanna ask you thisquestion directly, How do you
define success now aftereverything that you have built
and, some of the changes youhave, made over time?
I would say success is every daythat I woke up and I became 1%
(29:18):
better than the person I wasyesterday.
I think ultimate, goal in lifefor Cody Hofhine and, and my
family is, that they might havejoy and I think joy can't be
faked.
I think joy is directly tied tous becoming the best version of
ourselves, And you can stillhave joy because you became
someone better today than youwere yesterday.
So yes, we're all about becomingmore like God, more like Jesus,
(29:40):
and every day that we do that,we experience joy.
And to me that's success.
Amen.
Thank you so much for thatgolden nuggets, brother.

about doing that?

meaning, to the things you'relooking for.
