Aloha, It’s Shelon "Hutch" Hutchinson here! If you’re enjoying 'The Multifamily Real Estate Experiment' podcast, please like, comment, and share our episodes to help us reach and inspire more people. Thank you for your support!

From Jamaica 🇯🇲 to the yellow footprints at Parris Island 🇺🇸—27 years of service later, Hutch isn’t just investing for profit. He’s investing with purpose.

In this episode, he opens up about his journey, from growing up on land that once held a painful legacy… to breaking mindset barriers and finding alignment with a mission bigger than himself.

Real estate started as a means to build wealth—but it became a way to serve others, especially military veterans who are small business owners and accredited investors. Why? Because that’s who he is—and speaking the same language matters.

This one’s about identity, alignment, and the power of choosing your people. 💥

🧩 It’s not just about niching down. It’s about showing up for those who remind you of you.

Kaylee mcmahon 8486 (00:00):
We had a lot of folks that talk about

(00:01):
niching down in whateverbusiness sector that you choose
to do.
To your point, when I came fromJamaica in 1998, it didn't take
me more than two months to bestanding in the yellow
footprints in Paris Island.
And I've been doing that for 27.
Actually this month, like 27years.
And, I've aligned myself with myversion of America, and that is

(00:24):
my, that is our service members.
So those are the people that Ireally identify with.
just like you, whenever Istarted out in real estate, for
me it was just, let's make somemoney, right?
Let's do this thing that peopletalk about generational wealth.
However, after you, you diveinto it and you realize I can
actually do more than just makesome money.
I can actually make an impactand.

(00:46):
Who is the people that I mostresemble, right?
In all shapes and sizes andbackgrounds and mindset.
And what we narrowed it down tobe is, military veterans, right?
it has morphed into, a militaryveterans who are accredited
investors who own a smallbusiness because those people I
can speak directly to becausethat person is me.

(01:07):
I can speak the language, so Itotally understand.
However, in the process, I hadto break a lot of paradigms,
right?
Because think about it, growingup in Jamaica, on what used to
be a slave plantation, right?
And moved to a very.
Violent area of Kingston andthen coming and join the Marine
Corps.
That is now teaching me that Iam a part of something bigger

(01:28):
than myself.
